Only thing I want to say regarding the high school (irl) choice is: those who keep saying that high school determines your future are either delusional or malicious towards kids.

It is true that each school can help in certain subjects, but the most important thing is the method it teaches you.

The amount of doctors and scientists that have come out of classical highschool is innumerable, just as much as those that from a scientific highschool have gone to study philosophy or literature

Anyhow, back to tsuna.

Since his family has no faith in him and think he is stupid, i believe he would not be pressured to go to a determinate high school, at most it would be preferable if he went to a liceo (and not a professional)

(important: especially in the south, especially in bourgeois circles, only acceptable highschools are licei and in particular the classic and the scientific one. The rest is garbage)

This would leave him quite some choice. Still, he too thinks he is hopeless and stupid and does not want to study.

So it is either liceo alberghiero (hotellerie High school?), in particular the course to become wait staff (as opposed to kitchen staff), as it is widely regarded as a school in which you study nothing

Or liceo delle scienze umane (of human sciences). Which basically concentrates more on psychology, sociology and pedagogy. And you will think it seems very hard and all and you may be right, but where I come from is considered the liceo for those that are not clever enough for the real ones. Or that just don't want to study (such opinions may also be related to the actual quality of the one liceo delle scienze umane in my city, I do not know). But in any case, even with actual studying included, I think it suits tsuna

Every other day, I find myself wondering, “If Tsuna had been born in Italy, what high school would he go for?”

For anyone who needs a crash course on Italian high schools ft. coming from someone who graduated from one:

In 3rd year of middle school, Italian children are asked to make a very important decision — some teachers and parents will even go as far as saying that your high school determines your future and, considering you spend 5 years in there, it might as well actually be true. Italian high schools, or licei, are of three types: istituti tecnici (technical institutes), istituti professionali (professional institutes) and licei (high school). All three types have common subjects like Italian, math, history, etc. as those are mandatory subjects, but then they differ because they specialize in certain subjects.

For example, I went to a liceo linguistico (or linguistic high school) which, of course, offered the mandatory subjects like Italian, math, history and science but specialized in teaching languages. My cousin went to a liceo scientifico (scientific high school) which offered a more intense approach on the scientific subjects.

I know that many people in my generation were taught to choose a high school that would benefit you in some way. Both parents and teachers said choosing one high school over an another would pretty much decide what you would do in the future. Unfortunately, that is a complete life for many people. My cousin went for the scientific course but then grew disillusioned with it and chose an literature university course, to the great disappointment of her parents. Though it is true that graduating from a certain high school type facilities some university courses and would be more logical to continue following said course (I know of people with scientific backgrounds who failed to keep up with the linguistic side of my university, making the joke “Ah, you’re the science department” all the more true), people are allowed to change their mind.

Soooo, what Italian high school would Tsuna go for? Considering he’s 14, he would be going for his first year. I don’t need sleep, I need answers

Forgot about one more question, probably the most important one!! What do you think about Gokudera's mother tongue? I mean, in what language he will speak to himself when alone?

Time for Gokudera.

His mothertongue is of course italian. I HC that hes from around Messina, so i believe he has the accent from there!

As for speaking dialect - i believe that originally it's the same of what i said before, but he probably learned more of it when he ran away from home! He probably (or maybe its even canon, i dont remember) spent time in the slums, so it just makes sense that he was subjected to dialect a lot more.

Bianchi, on the other hand, does probably not speak much dialect.

Now, back to Gokudera: when did he learn japanese? Notwithstanding the reborn "everyone talks japanese" nonsense, it's actually believable that he learned it at some point. And i believe that it was when he discovered who his mother was, as a way to reconnect with her. Its not farfetched that he bought/stole a japanese course book and learned from there

And btw, is Hayato even his actual name? Is it a name his mother called him, or the one she wished him to have? I hardly believe that his very italian father called him that while keeping up appearances...

So yeah, to conclude id very much say that he talks to himself in italian mostly, but probably japan has gotten to him enough over time that he also starts thinking sometimes in japanese! There is very little italian in his life, after all. He probably also wants to leave that behind him a bit, at least the first years...

Should they? Absolutely not.

But:

Whether Mammon even eats is unknown. Them cooking? A mistery.

Levi says he doesnt have time for cooking. What he occupies that time with, though, is unknown. He either eats what the personal chefs cook or goes to the communal canteen with his squad

Belphegor is one of the few that refuses to cook (except for christmas - as per the lil hc that i shall post again - but thats just cause for him christmas cooking is a meme). How can a prince be bothered to do that? He would probably either starve in the wild or be found eating raw carcasses (while being given everything to make pasta)

Lussuria does cook!!! As any real woman from Emilia Romagna. Especially as he gets older he finds solace in the kitchen. When he can he makes meal for the other guardians as well and they eat all together! She finds it the best bonding moment :)

Long story short: when he was 2 and some his father brought him a fake little wooden sword as a toy from a trip, without even thinking much of it. Just a souvenir!

Little Squalo was obsessed and would remain so forever.

His mother soon saw the potential (and realised that without some education things could easily go badly) and decided to enroll him in a fencing course for kids! He quickly became the best and started practicing with older kids.

For the Ask Game - Love to hear your thoughts on Xanxus and Squalo

It took me a bit too long but my babies deserve all my undivided attention. So here we are.

Do I ship them? Well. They are my beloveds. One of those OTPs that have been with me for 13? 14? years at this point. The one ship that dragged me back into this fandom and that resides in my head constantly. The amount of scenarios, sagas, headcanons I have about them is outstanding. A bit concerning, maybe. I think about them every night to sleep and I have done so for at least two years. That is the level of brainrot I have. That is how much I love them.

What made you ship it?

Well, they are just them. They're one of thos ships that you don't have to look for. You don't have to invent anything. They are just there, written in the manga for everyone to read. One could say that they are fated, but honestly? They chose each other, and that's one of the most beautiful things. Squalo chose Xanxus when he was 14, and never relented for a moment. He cut off his hand, he grew his hair to an absurd lenght. Waited for him to come back for 8 years not even knowing if it would ever happen and then stayed. What is more touching than such devotion?

Talking about Xanxus... I know we see much less of him in that sense. But even then, we do know that Squalo is the one he cares for the most. We know that in the future arc he was at his grumpiest without his rain. There is much more that can be "made up" about him, but isn't that what makes characters more interesting?

What are your favorite things about the ship?

I think i have already answered this one. I can just add that I love their complementarity. The black and the white one, the loud and the silent one, the outgoing and the introvert one. The crazy one with his life togheter and the other crazy one that needs to figure it all out (don't you tell me Xanxus has anything figured out, please).

It's just them. Unseparable. Dependent on each other to function. Beautiful.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

This one might make me salty. I don't have an unpopular opinion on the ship per se, but more of its perception in the fandom, I guess? I might unwillingly offend someone. But. I truly cannot stand those who make Xanxus the abusive boyfriend and Squalo the poor victim only to then have him fuck someone else. That is the shallowest interpretation of them, and takes away the complex feelings that form their bond. Also, more in general, I am disbelieved too by the fact that so few people seem to get them. Dears. It's all written there. There is nothing to imagine even. Only the part where they kiss and fuck for the rest of their lives. What is so difficult about it. Why am I almost alone on this ship. Uff.

Translation of the bestemmia cause it's just too funny. I think I said it sometimes but it's worse saying again: bestemmie are the heaviest Italian curse words and curse directly either God, the Madonna or the saints. They usually associate them with animals, pigs and dogs being the most common.

They are actually a crime (that I don't think has ever been prosecuted in the last 50 years) and very frowned upon (if you say a bestemmia on television you are out of the show). They are also very common swearwords in regions like Veneto, Friuli, Toscana.

What would you say would make someone trustworthy in Xanxus' eyes? How do you believe that someone that isn't Squalo could grow to be at the very least likeable to him?

Hello my dear, and sorry for the delay!

The thing with Xanxus is that trust is not really a feeling that he has, not naturally.

Regardless of how he became head of the Varia, it is canon that they operate as a very competitive system, to say the least.

And that means, the only measure of trust is survival. And especially in the Varia arc, we did see how he treated everyone as exchangeable. Not much trust there, even for the people that did wait for him for 8 years.

So as always more than what would make others trustworthy, it's more a "xanxus needs to grow up" matter. Cause no one has his trust. Full stop.

Now. As he matures, then he might realise who are the people that follow him cause they want to and who are those that are just waiting to kill him. Or that just wish they could. The first group are those that are trustworthy to him (all the other varia quality conditions having been satisfied).

And as for Squalo..... He's clearly the one that follows him with the most ardour. The one that satisfies he's caprices the best. And the only one that still has the balls to tell him no and enough (though he still follows the last orders).

There is nothing more that Squalo has to do be liked. Everything is in Xanxus' hands at the end of the day

But. Very headcanon territory here, diving in what are my baselines for head scenarios.

In my mind Squalo always knows. I have dwelled into these concepts in some of my last posts, but his future memories are like a dream come true to him. Whether he believes it's just that particular future self that got lucky or whether the memories bring him to confront Xanxus is something that I find very interesting, though I usually go with the first. But it could make a nice plot/chara study!!

Now, going back to the first question!!

To me Squalo is blissfully unaware of his sexuality when he first meets Xanxus, and that remains the case for a while!! He's just a kid obsessed with swords after all. Meeting Xanxus is a big shift but he didn't know how to sort out his feelings at first. Also because, the fact that he was in love did not negate the admiration he feels for xanxus' rage and lust for power.

It was only after the cradle (and with Xanxus gone) that he realised both his feelings for XX and his sexuality. Also, I like to think that the varia is a big queer community, so he wouldn't even feel any outside pressure or shame (and even if anyone was there to berate him... They are not the ones with the sword).

Soon after he realises his sexuality he starts having the first experiences and embraces, for the parts he thinks are fun, gay culture (mama luss is there to teach him). To me Squalo is a person that is unapologetically free. He does not care about judgement and prejudice (though he is very much aware of both). He just wants to live his life to the fullest

So yes, in my mind from late 16 to late 21 you can habitually find him in gay clubs and parties and pride parades!! He also gets laid a lot. But like, a lot lot.

In my opinion he never denied himself anything only because of Xanxus. In his heart of hearts he may be a hopeless romantic but he could never remain paralysed waiting for something that may even never happen

This will be a short and random compilation. Italian has MANY swear words. Regions have their own swear words.

This post is btw aided by this site i found, which is exactly parolacce.org

Cause: in italian swear words are called parolacce, which is exactly the word parola (= word), but in its dispregiative form (suffix - accia). Another much more formal and refined word is turpiloquio (coming from some latin im not gonna search, but it meand bad word basically)

Now, random list of italian swear words:

Cazzo and minchia. They both mean "dick". Used as an exclamation, like in english you would say fuck. Minchia is slightly more sicilian btw. Told you every region has their own

Cazzata (but also minchiata). Derivative from cazzo. Used to indicate a very stupid thing. "Hai fatto una cazzata!" = "Ah, you fucked up!"

Cazzone. Guess where it comes from. Literally big dick. May indicate a literal big dick, but usually used to refer to a person that is a big idiot.

Cazzaro, dicker (?). Someone that abitually says cazzate.

Testa di cazzo. dickhead. Used to refer to a person that is a big idiot

My dearest anon, finally I have the time to answer you. This ask has not left my mind since you sent it, im sorry it took so long.

At the same time though, I am glad it took so long cause i can answer you calmly.

Your ask really angered me. And dont get the wrong idea, none of that anger was directed at you.

There are many layers of wrong in what you reported on your ask, and i'll try to adress them properly. Under the cut cause its gonna be long (and i hope i wont bore you) - i will answer your direct question in the last point, in case you want to go straight to the point. But for real, there is much to unpack here.

We have people bashing you for a ship that you really like, to the point you think that you are delusional. And that is fucking nuts. Every ship is legit. Every single crack pair and rare pair is legit. Cause we are all losers who spend their time thinking about puppets kissing. There is no higher ground to stand on. And this applies to ships that we see no fucking point in as well. And i am not saying this as a person that loves any ship. I am the pickiest shipper ever. And i am not a good person either, there are many ships which i loathe. Yet, i have the decency not to go to the people who ship such ships. If i complain it is privately and with the right people. If i dont like a thing i block (and i have blocked people because of what they ship). Everyone has the right to see only the stuff they want. No one has the right to make others feel bad for the stuff they like.

Personally, i firmly believe that there are ships and ships. And I hope i was not too italian saying that. the point is: i think some ships are basically written in the source material. That is to say, regardless of whether you pair the people romantically or not, the dynamic is deep, complex and (especially) apparent. You dont need to add much of your own to make it work. Other ships, on the other hand, need more work to be "justified", to gain substance. They may require filling in a lot of gaps, or looking at details scattered in the story. Now, both kind of ships have their own dignity (as per point 1), we dont get to choose the things we like. Still, i believe that at the same time we allow anyone to enjoy their thing while we enjoy ours, we need to also realise that some ships have more substance in the source material than others.

I know that the first two points may seem unrelated to what you asked, but i needed them for now. ive heard many the complains you have mentioned in your ask. and they angered me particularly cause usually they are brought up by people that try bring forward their own ships, and that know to do so only by bringing "competitor" ships down. I know you have not explicitly said so, but i believe its whats going on in this case, and it makes me incredibly angry and - honestly - sad. I believe that people that do this realise their ships are not as solid as XS (or some other ship) is (back to point 2), so they bash on it to advance their own. This is what angers me. Now, what makes me sad is that while doing this they also terribly mischaracterise the characters to the point they are not themselves anymore. Indeed, what a pity

Now, about XS: most of what i think of them i have said here. And about Xanxus, as you asked... one thing is clear: people that say that he does not care about Squalo have not spared one thought for him. And if they have, I am sorry, but they have not understood a thing about him. Xanxus is a very complex character. His most apparent trait, once you read the manga, is that his actions most of the times dont reflect his thoughts. and what he thinks is masked, and very well so. he was raised with the pressure of expectations, and hardened a lot because of it. he wasnt allowed to show any weakness, or maybe it was just himself who got convinced of it. but any feeling he has, apart from his anger, he suppresses. it took him one whole arc to express his motivations (and i dont even remember how much of his past was revealed to the cast) and to show emotional weakness. it took him 10+ years to defend his family and show he cares, and even then, he still didnt admit that he accepted Tsuna as tenth. after 10 years. How could anyone expect him to show love for someone? Or that he cares for anyone? That is the only gap you need to fill in XS, a gap named "Xanxus Vongola and his multiple issues".

To conclude, my dearest anon... you are right to say that there is something beautiful. Dont let anyone ruin it for you. And especially, surround yourself with people who share your interests and dont even look at those that try to bring you down instead. You deserve better than that.

And i know im not the best one in interactions, whether it is answering asks or messages or else (thanks anxiety and constant exhaustion) but i truly am glad when people interact about xs. Can Squalo cook? I feel like he would be good with chopping stuff because it's working with a sharp thing and it's Squalo but I'm drawing a blank at everything else cooking related.

Also, what about Xanxus? Can he cook? I know it's like a thing that he gets his food from a private chef, but wouldn't it be funny if he actually knew how to make his own food but would demand meals anyways. It's just, I picture Xanxus always as someone who's very independent (because of his childhood in the slums? Was it slums I actually don't remember) and for me independency comes with knowing how to cook. But I dunno I'm just guessing based on vague canon and fanfic memories here.

Tbh my idea is that all Varia know how to cook basic stuff. Cause you never know where life takes you and you need to be able to survive. I mean, basic cooking is a basic life skill.

Now, are Xanxus and Squalo skilled at cooking? That is another question altogether.

And the answer, i believe, is not that much.

Squalo sometimes actually cooks. As you say, chopping stuff is his thing, and his many outings to Japan and the Yamamoto household have brought him to cook some more. No italian would be an italian if he didnt treat his hosts to an italian dinner.

Xanxus, on the other hand, does not cook. Of course, it's not that he doesnt know how to (he's not an idiot, why wouldnt he be able to follow the instructions of a recipe), but why would he, when he has the best chefs around?

One thing he does do though, as all real men™ do, is stay at the grill during barbecues. Which is not something that happens much or that many have seen. But it does happen and if youre a worthy one you get to eat what he has grilled.

Omg!! A disclaimer: I have been in this fandom for too long and have gone too deep in my own hcs. So my Xanxus may be ooc.

I do believe that Xanxus was sent to mafia school like Squalo and Dino.

First of all, home schooling is not really a thing in Italy.

And tbh to me it doesn't even make sense for the son(s) of the Vongola to be homeschooled. Yes, they would have the best teachers, but what they need the most are connections and people becoming loyal to them. What better time to start than school?

And if mafia school brings in people from all over italy, as we may believe, it also makes sense for it to be some kind of boarding school with uniforms and all. Probably those that live nearby go back home everyday. Xanxus would then fall into this category (cause of course mafia school is near vongola headquarters) - and he could receive further education at home, though I do not believe that.

Such a school would already have the best teachers, as it is meant to bring up all the bosses of the different families.

Now, after this very long and intricate premise...

Would Xanxus be the school menace?

I don't think so. He very well could be, don't get me wrong.

But as bratty and capricious he is shown to be when he doesn't get his way, he is also considered fit to be tenth. By basically everyone.

He knows how to be a leader, and though he mostly leads by fear, fear is not all you can give people.

I believe Xanxus is a man of many faces, even if he is quick to anger. And being as powerful as he is, he certainly also had many follow him just cause... Which means, no need to get much angry at all.

(he actually despises the most of them, and is annoyed most of the time... But he still needs them at the end of the day)

Now, another point I wanted to touch was: being the son of the ninth, he is continuously watched. His behaviour, his grades are always under scrutiny. And not only this, but we know that he desperately wants to be loved by his father.

This to say: he would be the best at school. Nothing less but all 10s. And I also believe that he can respect teachers - if they deserve it, and if they respect him. But they do respect him, because he is who he is and he also is insanely good. Everything that a teacher may want in a student.

So I do not believe he would be the school menace at all and that he would actually make the model student

I believe that lussuria does use female pronouns in canon????? But it comes with being the stereotypical fag character. My HC however is that lussuria is gender fluid and has all the genders. I usually only use she and he cause my hcs are born in Italian and they doesn't exist. But one could also use they!!! Luss wouldn't mind :)

Ok, so this way-too-old ask is related to this post specifically. And I'm sorry for having taken so long, but as the saying goes, it is what it is.

Anyway

The very bad thing I believe about Gokudera is that he actually doesn't teach anyone anything. My view may be skewed cause I have no memory of him in the last two arcs of the manga but I fully believe that the only person he's willing to teach to is Tsuna.

But Tsuna doesn't really ask him any of that.

And about Chrome (same disclaimers apply)... Does she really spend time with the family? The girls of course, but as for the other guardians, I'm not so sure.

The other way round would actually be more plausible to me.

Chrome spends the majority of her time with the gang, and Mukuro is a constant in her head. It would be pretty clear that it is him teaching her Italian. And it would also make sense that the other guardians maybe don't even know she knows how to speak it.

So what I envision is something like:

Kyoko and Haru brought/made croissants and invited Chrome, Tsuna (who is of course followed by Yamamoto and Gokudera) and the kids.

And when the freshly baked croissants arrive on the table Chrome exclaims, in the heaviest Milanese accent possible "Oh, these brioches are so good!"

Gokudera feels like he's having a stroke.
