okay wuwa first impressions, first ~3 hours or so
the good
combat is fun as expected, LOVE dodging mechanics and the jump attack is surprisingly a lot of fun too. swapping characters is purposeful and fluid and overall the combat so far is super satisfying.
i just pulled a bunch of characters off the gatcha (did not get jiyan........) so i'm gonna have fun seeing whose kit i vibe with, i like that they all come with their own tutorial thing. that being said i definitely think i prefer the melee characters, ranged ones like baizhi don't exactly feel as nice to play. gun characters are very hit and miss so far (pun not intended) like i don't like playing chixia but i REALLY like playing mortefi
also love the echos system, and how its integrated into exploring the open world and actually fighting enemies. i'm gonna have a lot of fun filling out this data bank lol. there's a wolf one i like using during combat
could also just be new environment syndrome but the city feels HUGE. excited to explore around
the bad
as many have already pointed out yeah the optimization in this is not great (i play on laptop for context). it surprisingly seemed to get better for me the more i played/explored. i have a guess it might be caching things in the backend so the issue is primarily with loading in new/haven't seen in a while assets, but even then there is a pretty consistent stutter to the game, particularly the more open world areas. luckily for me not enough to completely turn me off from playing
i think a lot of this is because their "low graphics" setting is like. not low graphics at all lol, its actually just turning certain settings on/off for you. i think being able to tone down the environment detail/the resolution itself would help their optimization a LOT (even though the game is beautiful, i would prefer smoother gameplay than being able to see every blade of grass lol)
another thing i saw people point out was the fourth line of text getting cut off in the subs. definitely annoying since i read faster than the characters talk. i would hope this is an easy thing for kuro games to fix though, and my impression is they're pretty good at responding to player feedback
picking up items seems. weird? in addition to the fact that picking up items causes stutters often (probably asset loading), it also takes a while for the item to actually disappear which does NOT seem to be tied to the lag, but rather is an actual delay, so it really breaks the immersion
auto lock also feels weird especially in multi-enemy combat. i for one will probably not be using it lol
the loading screens take forever. i'm gonna be seeing 65% in my nightmares
the neutral (i'll be honest most of these are kinda leaning bad too ajkfdla)
music is okay, i haven't heard anything special or notable yet
no large opinions on the story as of yet, tbh i've spent more time exploring than doing any story progression asdlkjafs
i like being able to run up walls but the animation itself for it feels very idk. unpolished? in general climbing feels a bit awkward
idk if my eyesight is bad but it's kinda hard to tell which items are interactable/you can pick up. things like chests are also very unassuming but maybe i'm just bad at noticing them right now since i'm just getting used to the environment
environment is quite detailed but tbh i haven't seen anything yet where i've been like WOW but i've also only been in like. 2 areas so far
while i do like the combat, the hit box/range also seems just a bit. off. idk how to describe it might just be a matter of getting used to things ajkdflsf
kind of in line with that the movement feels a bit delayed, like it isn't as snappy as i'd like
overall its not bad but definitely feels like it needs some polish. i agree with people saying it probably should have stayed in beta longer and gone through more QA/optimization testing because some of these things like the cutoff text feel very rookie mistake
all that being said, even though I guess this post is fairly critical/negative I am really enjoying the game for what it is đ the bad optimization/lag is definitely it's biggest problem, so I hope it's something kuro games will be able to figure out, if it's not something that improves as the game gets bigger (map/asset wise) that'll definitely be its nail in the coffin

New Profession Poll Results & Roadmap Update
Points have been tallied, Archaeology won the poll with an impressive 52% of votes! Players will be able to embark on a treasure hunt using the archaeology profession to unearth ancient artifacts and hidden rewards. As shown in the updated roadmap below, production is set to start the beginning of October:

Additionally, coding work on the inventory vault mechanic will begin in December. Based on player feedback, we have decided to implement a vault feature independent from the banking profession. This vault will allow players to set aside precious items, providing a secure space within their den to store and safeguard their treasures.
The roadmap has been adjusted according to our ever-evolving development goals. Now that the Puppy Predictor and Forums revamp have been completed, the code team has adjusted their plans to include the new Archaeology profession and Inventory Vault projects. The Mole Market Revamp project has been extended to last through the month of August.
As a reminder, we still plan on implementing the other two professions in the poll (Banking and Ranger), but at a later stage.
Refer-A-Friend Feature
We're very excited to unveil Lorwolf's brand new Refer-A-Friend feature - simply invite your friends to play Lorwolf and earn rewards!
How it works:
As of today, new users can add a referrer when registering for an account. Simply send your unique referral link to a friend and receive 100 Moonwater once they have created an account. Then, once your friend has achieved a total Companion level of 50 or higher, you can claim 1 Refer-A-Friend Companion. Please note that players cannot make referrals retroactively, i.e., those that have already registered for an account cannot add a referrer. The Refer-A-Friend section can be found on the Profile page.
Rewards:
Referrals automatically grant 100 Moonwater to both the referrer and the referee. To receive an Orthrus Companion, the referred player must achieve a total Companion level of 50 or above. After this requirement has been met, both players can claim one Refer-A-Friend Companion of their choice - the Wildtail, Eclipsed, or Rustfluff Orthrus. The Glintfire and Starlume versions may be claimed once the player has referred at least three people. All versions are soulbound and limited to 1 of each per account.
Puppy/Bloodline Predictor
We're thrilled to share that our Wolf Demo has been given an exciting upgrade! In this enhanced version, players now have the ability to create new wolves, store their unique designs, and predict puppy genetics, including full color ranges.
How it works:
Save any of your Wolf Demo designs by clicking the green "Save Current" button. Saved designs can easily be re-loaded into the demo, or used in the Puppy Predictor. The Puppy Predictor allows players to input one male and one female wolf design to check for inbreeding and generate the pair's potential offspring including the color ranges and their genetic traits.
Speaking of puppies, the code team has enabled the use of specialty items on puppies due to popular demand. Puppies will now display on the wolf selection modal when selecting a specialty item to use.

Bad Genius (2017)

No matter how difficult your studies mightâve been, theyâll seem like a walk in the park after Bad Genius. The cultural pressures imposed on the young protagonist make you understand why this story about an important test turns into a heist.
Brilliant Lynn (Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying) is accepted into a prestigious school. She doesnât realize that her scholarship covered only the initial application fees, leaving her father to struggle to afford a number of additional payments that werenât disclosed intially. Out of guilt, Lynn agrees to help some of her friends cheat during their exams, which turns into a highly profitable endeavor. As her clientele grows, so do the stakes, culminating in an elaborate scheme to steal the answers for the STIC.
The culture Bad Genius is based in makes this more than a generic heist film. While there is pressure on everyone to get good grades, the school Lynn attends takes it to another level. After Lynn and Bank (Chanon Santinatornkul) perform well in a TV competition that pits schools against each other, a gigantic banner with their portraits and achievements is hung on the side of the skyscraper-like learning institution for all to see. Talk about pressure. With the corrupt academic officials basically coercing her father into giving them more money, you can see why she succumbs to temptation and decides to help Grace (Eisaya Hosuwan). That leads to Lynn helping Grace and her boyfriend Pat (Teeradon Supapunpinyo) cheat, which leads to loads of people wanting her "help" too. There couldâve been a slight problem with this story. You might care about Lynn but all of her friends are spoiled rich idiots who couldnât answer a multiple-choice exam if their gift of a brand new car depended on it, so where are the stakes? Thankfully, writers Tanida Hantaweewatana, Vasudhorn Piyaromna and Nattawut Poonpiriya (who also directs) are aware of this potential issue. They team Lynn up with Bank (Chanon Santinatornkul), who also desperately needs the money. He's also from a lower caste, in a country that would never give him or Lynn the chance to move up if it wasn't for this scheme.
Another element that makes Bad Genius unique is that it isnât all about stealing the STIC answers. At first, the movie is just about Lynn figuring out how sheâll pass her messages to her classmates without the teachers figuring out whatâs going on. To anyone who ever read Naruto - or watched the animated series - itâll remind you of one of the very first chapters, where all of these wild techniques are used to do what is really just a mundane task. The thing is, the tests feel big because of what it means to the people involved.
That's great and the performances are strong. You wouldnât even know most of the young actors are relatively inexperienced. Then, thereâs the direction by Poonpiriya. The film begins with Lynn as she's being confronted about cheating on the STIC. You think the movie is spoiling itself but actually, itâs pulling a fast one on you and when we get to the reveal, it's so good I kind of want any aspiring screenwriters to see this movie just so they can add a new trick to their arsenal.
One aspect of the film that doesnât quite match the rest is the conclusion. Thereâs one particular character whose allegiance changes drastically towards the end and while it isnât completely out of nowhere, it sort of makes you wish the whole film had been done from their point of view. At the very least, you wish they had gotten more screentime so we'd seen more of their journey. There are also a few moments where the tension feels like itâs being ramped up artificially. A cell phone vibrates. Its owner is afraid to pick up because they know the message they've received is incriminating⊠but the person looking at them doesnât know that. If they just looked at the phone and casually turned the screen off after two seconds, no one would be the wiser. Their reaction makes you frustrated.
Bad Genius does a terrific job making what should be a no-stakes, boring scene - students taking an exam - into a compelling drama. That alone makes it delightful. While this movie or the true events that inspired it might not get directly remade by Hollywood, it's only a matter of time before someone takes inspiration from it. I say check out Bad Genius before itâs the cool thing to do. (Original Thai with English subtitles, February 4, 2022)
