Mastering the art of cropping. Or why do I crop my subjects so tightly?⠀⠀ Being closer to the subject means that we capture more presence in the narrower space. ⠀⠀ The perfect crop makes all the difference between a good and a great shot. But it takes training and guts to crop in camera during a photoshoot that my mentor Peter Hurley @peterhurley taught me. When I tightly crop in camera it’s the quintessence of my artistic vision of the subject’s physiognomy, the lighting situation and the mood I want it to give.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Imagine how Titian had to plan ahead for this portrait! Nowadays, just anyone can snap a picture. Can you tell me who this is? And what is this gentleman so famous for that he deserved a beautiful painting? Finally, what is wrong with the painting, except that it doesn't hang in my living room?
