i hate zircon (84% 600+ atts and i cannot reach that consistently because of that one ship part after the first 4x wave with the rainbows and stuff) so im going to🚶start on sidestep now

going into the level blind (without watching someone elses completion) and ive gotten things figured out up to around 50% (idk how not to die at the wave yet??) and then i accidentally found out abt this silly little skip while practicing

so i’ve been playing geometry dash for about eight years (since 2.0 released) and i’ve never really fallen out of it. huge gamer most of the time 4.2k hours on it on steam and probably 10k if mobile counted etc etc

yesterday i leave my house to go on vacation for a week. you fuckers are not gonna guess what 7-year-anticipated update decides to be dropped the fucking day i get to virginia.

but wait there’s more. i also really, really love ultrakill. extremely fun fast-paced retro fps i’m sure you’re all familiar with it and i’m actually pretty good at it. p-ranked everything i could, got decent at the fancy tech, played a lot of cybergrind. got like 150 hours on it before i honestly just ran out of shit to do, love the game and have been patiently waiting for the next update

And you guys are never gonna fucking guess what game ALSO is having a major update release today. The second day of my vacation and I am away from my computer for the next week.

Alright lads, let's talk about the elephant in the room. Geometry Dash 2.2 might be releasing tomorrow.

For my non-geometry dash followers, this godforsaken game is coming up on its 10th anniversary, and has surpassed Six Entire Years since the previous update. The official Youtube channel has released a premier dated for tomorrow at 22:00, has 22 icons on the thumbnail, and a trailer that's 22 seconds long.

Level creator "ilrell" has a video on the "Best Level of Every Month". It shows just how increasingly insane creators have gotten in order to make standout levels. For instance, the best level from early 2.1 is something like Glyph--

Which, I mean yeah, it looks pretty good. It's got some great colours and flashy movements. As a matter of fact, the creator of that level (Optical) would go on to build a career in graphic design.

I mean, hey, let's flash forward to today. Surely levels aren't that different, right? After all, what's releasing right about now?

If you don't want to click on that video, you're missing out. Cytokinesis is an alien/lab-themed opus themed around controlling two players simultaneously (check the second half of the video!) It's not even the most ambitious level coming out.

I cannot stress enough how completely this game has changed due to the community constantly striving to one-up itself. Want some more? Here's a level made in fourty-eight hours, here's an ori-themed level with a frog at the end, here's a god-damned level layout.

So I'm a bit uncomfortable with 2.2 coming out. As is everyone, I think. Sure, it adds much needed optimizations to the game, and we're all hyped about the brand new "free fly" and "spider orb". But outside of that, it adds enough features to transform the game entirely.

It's a bit unsettling. I've been playing ever since the 2.0 update, and I feel like we all contributed to make the game into what it was. The game wasn't updated in the past six years, but as a community we turned it into our own.

And by that regard, the game being updated feels oddly paternalistic. It feels almost like the developer is coercing a certain style of level and gameplay. It feels like we're being robbed of what made this game so unique.

But on the other hand, this update adds so many new tools to be creative. I've been waiting for the newfangled "spider orb" for YEARS, and we're getting optimizations and increased limits on pretty much everything.

It's an interesting place to be in. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I often reference memes and jokes from the games my au is based on and work it into my lore.

That said let me tell you about the geometry dash chicken curse.

Back in 2.0 burning chicken was just a joke right? 2.1 took a long time to come out, everyone was hungry, but it was simply a joke and nothing more.

Then 2.1 came out, Fingerdash showed up and everything was cool. But there was one problem, Fingerdash cooked a chicken to celebrate but he couldn't exactly cook. He instead dunked the chicken carcass into lava and called it a day. Obviously the chicken was super burnt and very much inedible.

Then other people realized that they started burning their food, but only when it involved chicken. Fingerdash had brought a curse upon all of geometry dash that made it so people could no longer cook anything involving chicken or chicken products. This lasted until 2.2 so for 7 years people couldn't have chicken because no matter how hard they tried, they just kept burning their food.

Then when 2.2 came out Dash heard about the abomination that Fingerdash created 7 years ago and decided to make his own better version. He made a roasted chicken in front of all the levels. He did it perfectly and the curse was lifted so everyone was able to have chicken again :) (except Fingerdash. He's still bad at cooking even in 2.2)

No images today, just wanted to share this funny lore about GD. Maybe I'll draw some things if I feel like it but who knows.

(and don't worry, this was only in geometry dash. Deadlocked was able to have his chicken when he went to jssb. Maybe he couldn't make it himself as he is still from GD but he was happy to have some fried chicken with his new friends after not being able to eat it since 2017)

There have only been two (2) major updates since Geometry Dash 2.0, but because of the huge gap in updates (thank you Mr. Robert Topala) if I ever started playing again I could reasonably call myself a Geometry Dash old head for getting serious about the game at the very tail end of 1.9.

fun fact about myself before i go to sleep

most of my memory before age 14 is a complete blur because it's been a while, so most knowledge on my former super interests also slowly faded with time

this applies to geometry dash as well, i dont remember a whole lot of what happened because i joined in 2.1 (around the time rob first started talking about 2.2 development i think... because i remember my last thought before quitting the game was "i will come back when multiplayer comes out with 2.2" which became a prophecy of sorts actually) BUT a lot of my memories are about 1.9-2.0 stuff for some reason???? (specifically bloodbath vs sonic wave, funnygame and michi all the ogs)

amongst all of them i remember two things most clearly

1. i remembered very clearly even after 5 years of not touching gd nor related content, the exact timestamp (part) in bloodbath where riot said swag/quack (i unintentionally tested this by watching someone else beat bb and when that exact moment came in i reflexively said quack)

2. horizon zero boss fight and song being the coolest crap ive ever seen (my heaviest nostalgia tinted glasses when it comes to this game)

Not roblox related, but I felt really proud of these, even though they were really lazily done.

I drew DJVI’s songs, but dedicated to the colours of their thumbnails on YouTube! Back On Track didn’t have it’s own actual thumbnail, so I based it off of the Geometry Dash gradient.

I’m not too good with colours, so this was a whole new experience!! I discovered my sister REALLY likes these, which actually makes me really happy...

Level: “Future Funk” by JonathanGD (Hard Demon 10 ★)

OH MY GOD this came out of nowhere.

This isn’t so much a level review, so much as it is a difficult demon completion. I just beat “Future Funk”, an XL-length hard demon, and one of the most popular demons in the game!

Now, some things may jump out at you about this level. First, it’s length. Yes, this demon is four-and-a-half minutes long. Second, the date. You may notice that near the end of the level, the last part says “2018” in the background.

This level was made in early 2018! While that seems like a long time ago now, it was actually made at the tail-end of one of the last culturally revolutionary periods of Geometry Dash. As a result, it places in the top 90 most popular demons in the game as the most recent level.

So I’ll try and explain what Future Funk is, and what the GD community was like in 2018. You had to be there.

JonathanGD is a famous Indonesian creator, known for his XL-length demons with high-quality deco throughout. The average GD level is only 1–2 minutes in length, but JonathanGD’s demons went upwards of 4–6 minutes.

He made his debut in April 2017, when he released “Dark Travel”: a 208k-object, 6-minute long insane demon that instantly became the longest rated level in the game. His next big level was “BuTiTi II”, a 4-minute long insane demon with many cultural references.

By now, an entire year had passed, and Geometry Dash finished its phase of early-2.1 levels (“Colorblind”, “Hypersonic”, etc.). It is here that JonathanGD began his third big level: a farewell to 2017—and a tribute to 2018.

Future Funk is based off of two levels: the 11th main level “Clutterfunk”, and the custom 9★ 2.0 level “High Life” by Migueword. Parts of these levels were moved around and given modern designs (along with some original JonathanGD parts added), culminating in this final product.

This level was critically acclaimed. GD players like Nexus, GuitarHeroStyles, EVW and SrGuillester made videos on this level, while Partition, Dorami, Luqualizer and AeonAir showed support. Popular player KrmaL called this his “new second favorite level”, which sounds like a joke but is actually a very big deal.

In late-2019, Viprin hosted the “GD 2.1 Awards”. In it, Future Funk was nominated as “Best XL Demon” among 4 total levels. At the awards ceremony, Future Funk won the title—by a landslide, with 69.3% of the votes.

JonathanGD is still a level creator, and he continues to make great levels. These include “BuTiTi III”, an XL extreme demon that’s on the demon list, and “Future Funk II”, an XL insane demon, and the sequel to this level.

Now, as for my experience. I fluked this level from 81%, and beat it in less than 2,800 attempts. That’s really good, considering the fact that this level requires you to focus your attention for four and a half minutes.
