42/2023: Gertrude Sandmann, 16. Oktober 1893

Hi! Do you recall other examples for lesbian jewish artists?
Hi! I love that question and I'm definitely going to dig into this topic more!!
My first thought was Netta... And I was thinking about the lesbian Haggada written for Pessach in the 1980s or 1990s, but that's not really artists.
I'm writing my thesis about lesbians during national socialism at the moment, and I found a biography of a Jewish lesbian artist in Germany, I can write a proper English summary of her life this week!
Gertrude Sandmann (1893-1981) was an artist you might like. She painted portraits and acts of women and her story is not only very moving but also interesting because of her many contacts to lesbian women's rights activists. She was hidden in Berlin during the war and survived the holocaust, saved by a German family. She also founded a postwar Organisation for older lesbians in 1974!
Here's some photos of her work I found in my books:

LATER ON MAY 24TH...
After visiting the Jewish museum, I got to enjoy the safe and bright outdoors. It gave me the opportunity to rethink my findings in the museum and rest my foot. Right after, we went to the Berlinische Museum. The museum’s work, in particular, Lotte Lasertein’s work was fascinating. Her works consisted of self-portraits and utilized watercolor, pencil or/and charcoal. As I just completed Intro to Drawing this past semester, I am inspired by Lasertein’s drawing and painting technique’s within her pieces. She would leave the body and facial parts outlined and empty but clothing would be emphasized through watercolor paints. Other artists’ works, such as Gertrude Sandmann and Lieselotte Friedlaender, were similar to Lasertein’s work.
