You know what I love about Saturdays..
.. that you can just laze for the whole day, no judgment and indulge yourself and all your desires.
I know that I’m privileged to just be able to laze with no one bothering me. I know it’s magical to be able to meander through a Saturday without considering the whims of anyone else is a luxury that is special. I don’t take it for granted. Yo, why is this turning into a gratitude journal? I’m gonna chalk it up to the playlist I’m enjoying right now.

Now, I don’t know a lot about Ethiopian Jazz, but I will tell you that it’s incredibly joyful, passionate and has so many unique elements. There is a lot of warm jazz percussion, organ and flute playing and it’s mad vibrant and pensive in its execution.
You know you’d think upbeat and expressive playing might sound experimental and potentially filled with reckless abandon in its execution but a lot of the tracks on this playlist have a certain type of measure to them that shares its depth and concentration. A perfect example is this track by Getatchew Mekurya.
Beautiful and pensive in its execution. You can hear the measure in his instrumentation and the unique moody dynamic that fills the atmosphere around the saxophone.
Another bomb track is Al Asafir by Kamal Keila.. it’s funky and lays down a silky 80s vibe with some hypnotic vocals.
Lastly, some passionate guitar work from Girum Gizaw. A reserved and talented axe man from the sounds of it.. this is so proggy.. Ere Mela Mela opens up with a nice piano intro, it’s played live and as it progresses could fit in right alongside any track by King Crimson.
Yo the whole playlist is golden, take my word for it and go listen to it yourself and then tell me what you think about it.
