I've been rifling through my follows trying to find langblr/lingblr accounts for some help. Say we discovered a whole new language, who would be the one to investigate it and study it? I'm researching for writing and know nothing of language or linguistics gkskgskg thank you for any help

In that case, it would be someone who wants to do field work, which involves being within the community of whose language you want to investigate (and they allow you to), and working with an informant!
