Friday night.
The day where everyone reflects on the week and try to forget about it. The Hard Deck swarmed with people wanting to unwind from their week whether it was good, bad or ugly. Friday nights also meant the bar swarmed with Naval Aviators.
They followed one another easily, it filled quickly. By the time you clocked in for your shift, the bar was now filled with all khakis. “Get your butt over here!” Penny yells with a grin, serving the man in front of her with a kind smile.
“Comin I’m comin!” you chuckle, pushing behind the bar with a smile. Turning in your spot, stopping at the man smiling at you.
“Dad?” he laughs, looking you over.
“Don’t look so surprised to see your father” he smirks, watching the smile that makes it's way onto your face. Turning back around, you reach down and grab a glass, filling it with his usual.
“I thought you were in the desert” you say, watching the foam in the glass. Setting down infront of him, he shrugs.
“Top gun calls, I answer” smirking with a shake of your head. “Uncle Ice calls, you answer” you chuckle as he nods. He watches Penny move around the bar. “Say something would you,” you laugh watching as he rolls his eyes, Penny making her way over to him. As the door continued opening with Aviators. None of them meant a thing.
As the two of them flirted back and forth, you sighed. Aviators always flirted, sending winks your way and extra tips to go the extra mile. None of them were him. Two years of you denying winks and throwing away napkins with phone numbers.
You hated that you let yourself fall under his spell. It was easy to, he was blonde, green eyed and smooth talking. You tried to fault yourself as it was something you grew up around. It would be obvious for you to go out with one, almost marry him.
“(Y/N)” looking up at the sound of your name, smiling over your shoulder at your father. Moving to stand beside Penny, she smirks. “Get him another beer would ya” she sends him a wink, walking to the other side of the bar. You smile, taking his glass. “You look lost” he says, watching your face as you shrug. “I feel lost,” you say, smiling at him and setting the glass in front of him.
“You saved yourself as your mother would say, never marry an aviator” you shrug. “But Aunt Carol and Uncle Goose were happy” he sighs, nodding. “I know, you had a better role model in them than us” he sighs, resting his hand on top of yours.
“It’s okay to be upset, but I also want you to know, it’s okay to move on” he nods. What your father wasn't saying was he knew that he was gonna be strolling in the door and your life anytime now. That he was also called back to Top Gun, along with your best friend. Looking up at the sound of the door opening, your breath catches in your throat.
Bradley Bradshaw stood in all his glory standing at the door aviators resting on his nose with the Hawaiian shirt loose on his body. “One second dad” you send him a smile, moving around the bar.
“Bradley!” he looks over at the sound of his name, a smile making its way on his face.
“Hey you” you're running to him, colliding with his body as he catches you. “Oh my god” you whisper, more to yourself than him as he grins. Bradley Bradshaw was the one man you could count on, minus your father.
“I missed you so much" you are hugging him tighter as he laughs. “I missed you too Dove” he squeezes your arms, pulling apart from you. “Wait” you say looking up at him. “Are you back at Top Gun?” you ask, hands resting on his arms. He nods, smiling at you. “I got called back just a few hours ago” he says.
There was never romantic feelings between the two of you. Just sibling love, you spent all your summers at the Bradshaw home while Goose and your father were on deployments.
“You are staying with me, no ifs ands or buts" you say with a smile. He laughs, nodding. “Okay, I’ll be over in a few hours'" you nod, looking him over. “Let me get you a beer'' He follows you to the bar, avoiding eye contact with your father completely. You never knew what happened between the two of them but chose to never intervene.
“A beer for you Lieutenant” you smile, setting the beer infront of him. “Go have fun” you shoo him off towards his friends. “Bradshaw, Is that you?” the female voice yells as you smile.
“Go” you encourage him. You missed the rest of the group coming in. You look over at your dad with a sad smile. His focus is back on Penny, who is smirking at him. Within seconds the bell is ringing and the bar is full of cheers. “Oh god” you laugh, looking at Penny and then back at him. “So, did you disrespect the Navy or put your phone” you look down at the phone in front of him “on the bar”.
He shakes his head with a smile, sipping from the beer he had in front of him quietly. Moving around the bar, you handed drinks out as quickly as they came once the bell rang, everyone came for refills.
“Penny my dear, I’ll have four more on the old timer”
Your blood ran cold. You knew that voice instantly. You kept your back turned, head down and out of his eyesight. “Sure Hangman” she smiles grabbing the four beers. She sees the tension in your shoulders choosing to ignore it as she sets the beers in front of him. “Thanks pops” he winks.
Jake Seresin knew exactly what he was doing. It was almost three years ago they sat at the same bar discussing the ring that sat against his chest.
“You want to marry my daughter?” Maverick asks, looking at the blonde aviator beside him. “I do” he nods his hands around his beer bottle, eyes focused on the condensation as it rolled down onto his palms. “Why?” he asks, watching the man's shoulders slouch.
“She’s the only woman who’s-who’s put up with my shit” he chuckles, looking over at him. Maverick smiles, “because she’s had to put up with mine for so long, she understands” he nods, reaching over to give his shoulder a squeeze.
“You love her?” Jake nods eagerly, looking over at the man beside him. “I love her so much sir” his voice is soft but your father hears him loud and clear. “Okay, then you can marry her” Jake can’t help the smile that makes its way to his lips. “Really?” Maverick laughs, “Really”.
“Penny, I-I’ll be back” your voice is soft, tossing the towel on to the bar. Pushing through the sea of people and through the kitchen doors. Bradley watches from his side of the bar, furrowing his brows.
“I’ll be right back” he cuts Phoenix off as he sets his pool stick in Bob’s hands. “Dove?” his voice is soft when he pushes through the doors, looking around the kitchen. “Bradley you can not be back here” your voice is soft, strained. He hears you sniffle.
Jake nods in Mavericks direction as a silent thank you, the two may not like the other but he was raised to be respectful. He makes his way back to his friends, Coyote notices his shift. “What is it?” he asks his best friend, taking the beer from his awaiting hands.
“Maverick is at the bar, bought our beers” he says, sipping his drink. “Like as in (Y/N)’s father?” he inquires, Jake nods. “Is she here?” Coyote asks, watching his best friend. “I think so, she loves this place”  he says over the rim of his beer.
“Dove” Bradley whispers, looking down at you with his brown puppy dog eyes. “Why are you crying?” he asks, hands resting on your arms as he stands in front of you. Holding back another round of tears, you squeeze his arm gently.
“It’s nothing,” he shakes his head. “I saw the way your body reacted and the way you can’t even talk to me without crying” he reaches up, catching the stream of tears with his thumb. “It’s Hangman, what is he doing here?” you whisper, looking up at him. He nods, his mind going back to the last two years.
“I know, I swear I had no idea he would be here” you nod, looking at your best friend. He pulls you into his chest, giving your body an additional squeeze.
“Overboard, Overboard!” the bar crowd yelled, pulling you from Bradley’s arms. "Oh god” you sigh, pushing out the swinging kitchen doors. Jake hooks one arm under Mavericks armpits, Javy on the other. Watching the two of them with your hands on your hips and a shake of your head.
“Jake Seresin, get your hands off my father!” you yell over the chants.
It took a lot to strike fear in Jake Seresin but there were two people in the world who can make the hairs on his neck stand. His mother and you.
He turns around at the sound of your voice, arm dropping from Maverick's arm, “You too Javy,”. Making your way to the bar, looking at your dad. “Go home please” you whisper, giving his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. He nods, standing slowly.
“Come back and pay Penny tomorrow” you say as he is walking out the front door. Turning around, you face both men who stare at you dumbfounded. “Hi” Javy speaks first, looking at you with a side smile.
You had to admit, he was the nicer one of the pair. “Hi Javy'' you nod, sending him a soft smile. “What are you still doing here?” Jake asks, looking you over. You looked just as beautiful as you did when he left. “I work here dipshit” you look over at him, hands on your hips.
He nods, watching your face. “I-I expected you move on, somewhere far from Fightertown" he says. Javy takes that as his que to leave and makes his way back to the pool tables. “It’s nice to see you,” Jake says, looking at you with a smile. “I want to say the same Jake, I do”. He nods slowly, watching you. “Is it not?” he asks as he leans against the bar, you sigh. “No, it hurts me more to see you than it does to wish you weren’t here” you say, turning back to the bar with Penny.
The bar had finally cleared out , the last gentleman paying the last of his hefty bill. It left you and Penny in the empty bar. You tried to tell her you could close all on your own but she insisted. “Was it weird seeing him?” you ask, looking at her over your shoulder.
She has her back to you as she stacks chairs onto tables. “You know how I feel about your father (y/n)” you nod, biting your lip.
“I know, I just got a little worried I guess” you admit, setting the glass down and moving onto the next. “Why?” hands on her hips, she turns to face you. “I thought if seeing my dad again you’d let me go” you shrug, back still to her.
“Oh my gosh (y/n)” she’s moving to stand infront of you. “I love you and I love having you here so no, I’d never let my feelings for your dad dictate that” you nod, sending her a sad smile.
Her mother instincts kick in then, looking over your face. Still tear stained from the tears you tried so hard to hide from her. “What happened tonight?” she whispers, looking over your face.
“Jake Seresin happened” she furrows her brows, thinking back to the night. “Hangman is my ex-fiance” you say, looking back down at the glass, shining the same spot over and over. “What?” she asks, looking at you with wide eyes. “Jake  and I were engaged about two years ago” her brain thinks back, nodding.
“I remember, he went overseas right?” you nod.
“I mean there was of course more to it but that was our breaking point” you say. “Seeing him brought back all those things again” you say, biting back the tears that made their way into your lash line. “Hey” she reaches over, hand resting on yours.
“If fate wanted it this way, then fate wanted it to be this way” she grins, giving your hand a squeeze. “I can’t get rid of your dad so I mean, that’s fate for us” you can’t help the smile that makes its way onto your face. “I know” nodding, you set the glass down.
The bar door opens and Penny turns to yell at whoever it was. Jake stands there with his hands at his sides, a shy smile on his lips. “Hangman, we’re closed” she puts a hand on her hip. “I know, I uh-” he rubs the back of his neck, biting his lip. He was nervous.
“I wanted to talk to (y/n)” he says. She looks over at you, a knowing look on her face as you shake your head. “I won't be far” she whispers, walking back to the kitchen.  Jake makes his way to the bar, sitting in front of you. He watches as you continue shining the glass, avoiding his eye.
“Please look at me” his voice is soft, almost pleading. You look up from the glass, sighing. “What is it?” you ask, setting the glass down , resting your hands on your hips. “It really is nice to see you,” he says, looking over your face.
It’s then he notices the tear stains, as well as the way you continued to avoid his eye. “You look good” you say with a sad smile, looking over his face. You notice the crinkle in his eyes as his signature smirk makes itself known. “I know,” he admits, causing a soft chuckle to fall from your lips. “What do you want to talk about?” you ask. “I want to catch up,'' he adjusts on the stool.
“Maybe take you out to dinner?” he asks hesitantly as you sigh. “I don’t know Jake..” you whisper. “Please?” his eyes are pleading. If you only knew this was something he longed for.
The chance to see you again. The homecomings of everyone else getting to see their wives, remembering that it was almost the two of you.
He always kept your first homecoming in the back of his mind, everytime he flew.
You stood in the airport with a big neon pink sign. You knew it was cheesy and far from something your boyfriend wanted but you had to go big for him and his best friend’s return.
“WELCOME HOME LIEUTENANT’S!” The two men laugh as they come down the escalator. “That’s your girl” Javy whispers to his best friend as he laughs, nodding. “She is, I can’t say I’d trade her for the world” he smiles. Making their way to you, smiling. Dropping his bag, Jake catches your body as it collides with his, hugging him tightly as a koala would stick to a human.
With your legs wrapped around his waist, arms around his neck, he can hear your sobs. “Sweetheart” his voice is soft, reserved for you and you only. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry” you mumble as you're pulling away from his neck with a wide teary-eyed smile.
“God you look as good as you did when I sent you off” you grin, cupping his cheek. Javy scoffs beside him, shaking his head.
“Hi” you grin as Jake sets you to your feet, hugging Javy just as tightly. “Hi” he chuckles. Jake and Javy always knew you’d be there with awaiting arms to greet the both of them.
“Okay” your voice pulls him from his thoughts, looking back up at you. “I’ll text you?” he asks, biting his lip. “Sure” you nod, sending him a soft smile. He was shocked his number wasn’t deleted and blocked. “Are you gonna make it home safe?” he asks, standing from the stool. You nod, looking at him, “I will, Bradley is gonna pick me up” he nods slowly.
Bradley Bradshaw was a man of many things and he always managed to get under his skin. “Okay, let me know when you make it?” he asks in almost a whisper. You smile, Jake was a knight in shining armor, he wore his gear proudly to protect the ones he loved, you included. “I will Jake” he smiles, walking to the door, turning to face you one last time.
“Goodnight sweetheart" he smiles at the soft blush on your cheeks.
“Goodnight Jake” you send him a soft smile.
-
It was a week before you found out the reason they were brought back to Fightertown. They were pulled back to Top Gun for a special mission, a dangerous detachment that none of the pilots in your life could talk about.
You only knew the basics that it was dangerous and that someone could possibly not come back alive.  Bradley sat across from you at the bar, a sad smile on his lips.
“He’s insufferable, how could you have possibly almost married him?” he asks, eyes landing on Hangman from over your shoulder. “He was very charming, '' you say, setting the new full beer bottle in front of him. “He’s gonna get someone killed if not himself” you nod, his words falling on deaf ears.
Jake Seresin held himself to a high standard, as soon as he joined the Navy he swore to himself that no one to ever see his flaws and to never let them see him fail.
“Sweetheart” you look up at the sound of his voice, looking at him over your shoulder with raised brows. He sends you the same smile that he always reserved for you, soft and full of love.
“What is a gorgeous thing like you doin back there servin beers?” Jake smiles at you, leaning his elbows on the bar. You turn to him with a raised brow, chuckling.
“Because some of us don’t fly planes for a living, '' you say with a chuckle, setting the fresh beer in front of him. His smile was wide and somehow soft. “How did you know I fly planes for a living?” he asks, his head tilting slightly.
You chuckle with a shake of your head, “I know your type plus I know what a pilot looks like '' looking him up and down you sigh. “And you fit the part,” you grin.
He stood in his civilian clothes, a pair of dark wash wrangler jeans and a simple dark green polo. “I’m at the Fighter Weapons School here on base” he says with a smirk, you laugh. “You are a Top Gun pilot?” you ask, his brows raise.
“You know about Top Gun?” he asks, your laugh continues. “My father graduated from Top Gun '' you say proudly. “My uncle runs the school” his eyes widened, “Iceman is your uncle?”. You nod, looking him up and down.
Jake Seresin knew at that moment, he’d marry the woman behind the bar.
“Same as always?” you ask. He nods, watching Rooster over your shoulder. The two men shared a similar look, both ready to pounce if one said the wrong thing. “Can you two not kill each other?” you ask, looking between the two of them. Setting the beer in front of Jake, you smile. “Here” his grin grows. “Thanks sweetheart” he winks, the blush makes its way to your cheeks.
You were his sweetheart, people had their highschool sweethearts, college sweethearts, you were Jake Seresin’s Top Gun sweetheart.
“Gross'' Bradley whispers more to himself as he sips his beer. You let out a heavy sigh. “He’s just being nice Brad” he rolls his eyes. “He wants you back, don't you know?” he says, looking at you.
“He’s gonna leave again Bradley and I’m not putting my heart through that. I’m here for when he returns to North Island and nothing more” you say with more bite behind your bark.
He holds his hands up in defense, “I’m sorry”. You shake your head, looking at him, “I know you don’t know exactly what happened but trust me, my heart can’t take that” he nods, watching the look on your face.
He didn’t miss the look of sadness that you quickly covered with a smile.
Locking the door behind yourself, you sigh. The Hard Deck never fails to tire you out but you wouldn't trade it for the world.
“Need a ride?” you jump, looking over your shoulder at the voice. Jake stood at the end of the Hard Deck stairs, leaning on the post. You sigh, shoving the keys back into your purse. “I can walk" you say, shoving your hands into your pockets.
“I just want to talk (y/n)” he says, looking you over. “I know, but I-I don’t know if I’m ready for that” it felt weird voicing your thoughts out loud. Jake nods, hands in his pockets. “I never meant for this to be how we turned out, '' he says.
The rain poured heavily outside. It continued to slam against the windows. “I am heading to Germany in literally two days time, are you serious?” his voice was sharp, his eyes even sharper as he looked at you. “Yes” you are looking up at the man infront of you.
“Yes Jake, I’m sorry that you are going to Germany and could possibly have a child by the time you come back! Whenever that could be!” you yell, standing your ground. A late period starting the whole argument.
“I can’t have a child (y/n), I can’t possibly go to Germany and know that's happening here!” he defends, hands on his hips. “Jake, I understand that but what about me?! You are leaving me here!” you defend as he shakes his head. “You know how I feel about children, how could you let this happen?” you scoff, looking at him.
“Me?! You are the one who can’t keep his hands to himself!” you yell back. The thunder outside was no louder than your thoughts. “Jake, it’s me, we're gonna get married and start a family” he scoffs.
“Did you cheat on me?” The silence could be cut with a dull knife.
“Excuse me?” you ask, looking him up and down. “Did you cheat on me? There's no way that it could possibly be mine” you laugh. You laugh in his face. “I can’t believe you” you shake your head and begin pacing the kitchen. He sighs, hands on his hips.
“I don’t think we should get married,” he says in a whisper.
“I mean, my career is taking off, I could land a captain spot anyday and I don’t think I need this tying me down” he doesn’t miss the softness in your voice. You nod, pulling the engagement ring off of your finger and shoving it in his hands.
“Get out” you shove past him, ignoring him and the thunder that boomed outside of your once loving home.
Within three days you were sitting empty on the bathroom floor, the pink stick held tightly in your hands as you saw the lines that confirmed your biggest fear.
You were pregnant.
The pouring rain felt good on your burning skin, you went to the once place you knew you could. Pounding on the door, you ignore the ache in your chest as you hold the stick tightly in your hands. “Oh my god” Sarah’s voice is soft as she takes you in.
Tears now running with the rain as you stood soaked on her doorstep. “I-Is uncle Ice here?” you're whimpering as she’s pulling you out of the cold. “Tom!” she yells for her husband who worked at his desk upstairs. “What is it sweetheart?” he stops at the top of the stairs as he takes in your state.
In the days of Tom Kazansky raising his own children, you meant as much to him as his oldest daugher. “(y/n)” he’s rushing down the steps, wrapping you in his arms. You sob into his hard chest as he nods to Sarah, “get me a towel”.
He ignores the pink stick in your hand, he ignores the voice in his head that urges him to call your father. Even though he was off on a detachment that sent him to a different side of the world.
“I’ve got you honey” he’s kissing your forehead gently, swaying your shaking body.
“Sweetheart, you with me?” his voice pulls you from your thoughts, looking up at him.
“Why didn’t you want a family with me?” you ask with a shakyness. “Why was I not enough to hold onto in Germany?” you're crying now. He’s taking the steps two at a time, making his way to you. “I should’ve never said those things to you” he says, stopping infront of you.
“I should have been honest with you and told you I didn’t think I was ready to be a father, a husband” he takes your hand. You shake your head, pulling your hand from his.
“I suffered alot while you were in Germany, I should not have gone through that alone and I did Jake '' you say, voice shaking. Stepping away from him, his face turns to confusion. “I took a test about three days after you left,” you say, hugging yourself as you turn away from him.
“It was positive,” you whisper. “I carried our babyboy for about two months, then I had a miscarriage” your voice shakes. “I suffered that loss with no one, not even my dad” you sigh, wiping your cheeks. “So I can’t just forgive you so easily Jake” turning to face him, his own tears began rolling down his cheeks.
"I had no idea if you were even alive” you say.
“I kept everything” he says, looking from your face to his shoes.
“What?” you ask, looking at him with furrowed brows. “If you only knew that I kept your letters, I kept your ring” he pulled the chain from his shirt, looking at you as the ring sat tucked between his dog tags.
“If you only knew that I couldn’t sleep for months on the carrier, Rooster had to listen to me toss and turn for days” he says, watching your face. “The only thing that got me through Germany was you” he looks away, letting his tears fall freely.
“You never mentioned our son in your letters” he says with his own voice breaking. “I know, I didn’t think you cared” the admission hit him harder than he wanted to admit.
“I did, I cared about you for so many years (y/n), I still care about you”.
The sound of gravel pulls the two of your eyes away from each other. Bradley climbed out of the Bronco, hands on his hips. “Hangman” his tone was defensive. “(y/n), you okay?” he asks, climbing the stairs.
“I’m okay Brad, I promise” you say with a smile. “I think we should talk about this another time” you say, looking at Hangman. “You have an important mission coming up, you gotta be on your game” walking past him, you pat his shoulder in support.
“(y/n)” his voice is pleading, looking at you. “I love you” shaking your head, you sigh. “Good luck Jake” you make your way down the steps and to the Bronco.
Jake can’t help the chill that runs down his spine at the daggers Rooster sent his way. He knew Bradley loved hard and if you hurt someone he loved, he came with a vengeance.
Bradley ignored the tears stained on your cheeks as he started the car, driving towards your shared apartment.
The apartment was a mess. Bradley couldn’t ignore the nag in the back of his mind, this wasn’t you. “Dove?” he asks through the apartment. He had no idea if you were even here. “Roos?” you try to stand from the bathroom floor, wiping your mouth with a towel.
He catches you before you can make it off the floor, looking you over. “Hi” your voice is hoarse from the last twenty minutes of vomiting.
You are sniffling as his brown eyes soften.  “I-I’m sorry I wasn’t there-” he cuts you off, shaking his head. “What is going on?” he asks, moving into the bathroom dropping all of his bags at the door.
Shaking your head and holding your arms out to him, he helps you off the cold floor. “I missed you” you whisper, hugging him tightly. “I missed you too, now tell me what’s going on, are you sick?” he asks with worry in his voice. It’s then he notices the small bump.
“You're pregnant?” he asks as you nod slowly, looking up at him as the tears begin to cascade down your cheeks like a river.
“Dove?” you look over at the sound of Bradley's voice. “You okay?” he’s whispering, the Bronco now parked in the apartment parking lot. “No,” you admit, looking at him.
His eyes soften, he takes your state in then. “I told him” your voice breaks as you admit it, looking away from him as if he'd be disappointed in you. “I told him I lost our baby and-” its then a sob falls from your lips.
“Hey” he’s reaching over, taking your hand in his, giving it a reassuring squeeze. “It’s okay” he’s smiling sadly at you. “He told me he kept all my letters and-" you're hyperventilating now, looking at him.
“Why did he keep them if he didn’t love me enough to stay Roos?”
You ask and his heart breaks for you. “Let’s get you inside” he’s climbing out of the driver side, making his way to the passanger side. Your body falls into him as he helps you out. Scooping you up in his arms, he carries your body up five flights of stairs to the apartment the two of you were sharing.
By the time he makes his way to the front door, he notices your body had relaxed and your sobs quieted down, you had fallen asleep.
“Goodnight dove,” he lays you down and tucks the covers around your body, leaning down kissing your forehead gently.
He will be having a long conversation with Hangman tomorrow.
-
The California sun was hot. Beating down on the pilots as they dripped with sweat. Standing on the deck beside Penny, you grin. “Are you having fun eye-fucking my father?” you ask, startling her.
She drops the pen she was holding, looking up at you with a smile. Your face was swollen, she chose to ignore it.
“Maybe” she grins, looking back out at the game. Following her gaze, you smile at the pilots, missing the way the altercation on the sand looked nothing more than a simple game of football.
Rooster pushes Hangman as they both go for the ball, not missing the way he’s being a bit aggressive for a game of football.
“What the fuck Bradshaw!” he’s yelling, standing from the sand, looking at the mustached man. “Really?!” he throws his hands up. “How does it feel to be pushed around Hagman!” He points at Jake, standing taller than the blonde aviator.
“Excuse me?” Jake tries sizing him up, looking up at Rooster.
“You came back here and broke her heart all over again, Hangman” he pushes Jake's chest. The man stumbled slightly, and then he laughs, Jake Seresin laughs in his face.
“That has nothing to do with you” Rooster shakes his head, his own sinister laugh. “It does when I’ve picked up the pieces more times than you have! You know what she asked me? She asked me why you didn’t love her enough to stay and truly I think we’re all waiting for that answer!” he yells, and before he knows it, his fist is connecting with Jake’s jaw.
“That’s for my sister you fucker!” he yells as Maverick is between the two of them, pushing their chests away from the other.
“What is going on?!” Maverick yells, looking between the two panting men. “Hangman is a worthless excuse for a man” he pants, seething as Phoenix holds him back.
“What is he talking about?” he asks the blonde. You stand on the steps watching them, quickly making your way down the sand. as soon as you noticed Rooster swing. “What is going on?” you ask, standing behind the group.
“Jake was finally gonna tell us what happened” Rooster pants, his hand gripping phoenix's comfortingly. “How he got you pregnant and left you picking up the pieces all alone” he spits “living up to your call-sign aren't ya?”.
Maverick looks between the pilots, then back at you. The color in your face is gone.
“Is that true?” Maverick asks, looking between you and then back at Jake.  His green eyes meet yours, then looking back at your fathers. “Yes” his voice is hoarse. His jaw is sore but he knows it doesn’t compare to the pain you've felt.
“That’s how our engagement ended, but Bradley” you look over at him, his eyes softening. “There was no need for you to air out Jake and I’s dirty laundry” you snarl. You meet your dad’s softening eyes, “you are all dismissed” he says.
He makes his way beside you, wrapping you in his arms. “When did this happen?” he whispers as the group makes their way up to The Hard Deck.
“You were in the desert, about two years ago, I went to Uncle Ice” you whisper, hugging him just as tight. “I’m sorry I wasn’t here,” he admits. You shake your head against his chest, squeezing him. "It's not your fault dad” he kisses the top of your head, mumbling against your hairline. “I will make him do extra training, extra push ups if I don’t kill him first” he smiles as you chuckle.
“I’ll have a beer Penny” Jake’s voice is soft as she sends him a glare. She never was one to discriminate against a customer but she knew your pain. She went through almost the same pain with your father. “I should kick you out of my bar” she seeths, setting the bottle down in front of him, “but I won't because I know that’s not what she would want” he nods with a sigh.
“I really do love her Penny” he looks up at the woman, who shakes her head. “You need to prove it, Hangman” she makes her way over to Bradley with a smile.
“I’m sorry for causing a scene” he apologies to Penny as she shakes her head. “You are just being a big brother, I understand” she smiles giving him the opened beer.
“What the hell man?” Coyote sits beside his best friend, looking over his face. “I know” he admits, setting the bottle down, letting the amber liquid run down his throat. “I’m not proud of it,” he says, looking over at Coyote. “I told her I didn’t want a family, I-I accused her of cheating on me. I told her my career was more impaortant than a family” he scoffs at himself, “sick”. He sips the beer again.
“You need to fix this man,” he says to his best friend. Jake nods, looking out at the beach at you and Maverick, talking and hugging. He knew the rocky relationship the two of you had. “I know”.
-
Maverick stood at the door, he hated having to do this. He watched as you and Penny danced around the other, Bradley stood beside him. You stood at the bar standing beside Penny, looking between your father and Bradley, they stood dressed in their whites.
“The mission got moved up” Maverick says, his eyes falling to Penny with sympathy. “Go” you whisper to her, giving her arm a reassuring squeeze as the two of them go outside.
“Dove” looking up at the sound of Rooster’s voice. You tried to wrap your head around the timing.
A week ago, Jake was walking back into your life as well as Bradley and your father, now they were leaving again. Four days ago you finally told the love of your life the two years of hell you went through without him.
Now, they are leaving. “I think you should talk to Hangman” your eyes snap up to his brown ones, they held sympathy. “Why?” you ask, looking him up and down. He looked just like his father.
“We may not come back from this,” he says. “You better come back from this Bradshaw” you didn’t mean for it to come out so mean. He laughs with a nod, he knows you didn't mean it. “I will do my best, I got my girls to think about” he smiles at the smile on your face. He meets you halfway around the bar, wrapping you in a tight hug.
“I love you, Dove” he whispers as you squeeze him tighter. “I love you too, Rooster”. After a tearful goodbye with your father between both you and Penny, you reach for your phone.
Jake's phone pulls him from his thoughts, looking down at the message across the screen.
Sweetheart: I need to see you.
His heart sank as another followed,
Sweetheart: meet me at the hard deck in 15?.
You were nervous, chewing on your lip as you looked at Penny. “Bradley is right, you need to talk to him” she smiles as you nod, looking down at your phone.
Read: 9:45pm.
You scoff, shoving the phone back into your pocket. Twenty minutes later you find yourself sitting on the sand. Penny shoved you out the door to take a break. “I thought I’d find you out here” turning around, you meet Jake dressed in his whites, hat in hand. You stand, looking him over, he smiles shyly.
“I need to say a few things” you say, looking over his face as he nods. “Go ahead” he says, moving to stand in front of you. “I-I still love you, I know seeing you has brought these things to the surface that I thought I could avoid” you avoid his eye as you continue.
“The things you said to me two years ago and then the way you act now, I-I want to forgive you” you look up at him, his eyes sharing a similar hopefulness. "I don't want to love another human being as much as I love you." Your voice shakes as you continue, "I don't want to give my heart to a stranger all over again" looking over his face, his eyes were so full of love, love you hadn't seen in years.
“I don’t want you to go on the mission thinking about me and your mistakes and-” he cuts you off then, his lips meeting yours for the first time in three years. It takes you a minute to catch up and when you do, you are pulling him by his jacket closer to you.
“I think about you every time I fly, I have since the day I walked into that bar” he whispers against your lips, nudging your nose with his. “But since the day I went overseas, I’ve held you closer to my heart” he admits. “If you only knew how much I love you” he says as his breath fans over your face.
“If you only knew that I kept everything, every photo, every text message, every letter and your goddamn ring, I kept the key to the apartment” he rambles, hand falling to yours.
“It’s always going to be you (y/n) Mitchell” he looks over your face.
“I can’t sleep without you, my bed is cold, I don't think I've had a good night’s sleep in two years” he chuckles as you sniffle.
“Make it back to me in one piece okay?” you whisper, looking up at him with tears in your eyes. He cups your cheeks, his calloused thumb catches the tears, a teary smile on both of your faces.
“Sweetheart, I would swim oceans and crawl through fire to get back to you, you breathe life into me” he smiles at the small smile on your lips.
“Go in open minded, don’t think about me, don’t think about the past, don’t think about anything but protecting yourself” he nods, smiling down at you. “Maverick and Rooster too” he adds with a wink.
You knew deep down they were all fond of the other, they would never admit it though. “I want you waiting for me” he grins, leaning down to connect your lips again.
“You got it” you agree, kissing him as if he’d slip from your fingers and you’d wake up from this dream.
Jake made his way on the tarmac to the two people he dreaded having to talk to. Phoenix, Bradley and Maverick stood around the plane, stopping their conversation at the sight of the blonde.
He gulps, looking between them all. “Rooster” he nods, looking him up and down as Bradley excuses himself from the two.
“What is it Hangman?” he asks, adjusting the aviators on his nose.
“Thank you” Roosters furrows his brows as he looks the man up and down. He never expected Hangman to be thanking him. “You showed me I was not worthy of a woman like (y/n)." He looks over Bradleys face as he continues.
"I know that now and I now am gonna strive to be the man she deserves, the one she was gonna marry those years ago” he nods, Bradley can’t help but puff out his chest. He was protective of you.
“And thank you for convincing her to talk to me, I don’t think I could fly this mission with the thought of never seeing her again” his voice is soft as he makes the admission to the one person he never expected.
“Lastly” he looks up at Rooster with his signature Hangman smirk, “give em hell”.
-
It had been two days. You heard radio silence from every party. Checking in with Penny to see if she heard nothing, she was as in the dark as you were. No one knew if the mission was a success.
You threw yourself into work to keep your mind off it. “Penny!” you yell, pushing out of the kitchen doors with a case of beers in your arms.
“I mean I’m not penny but, will I surfice?” you turn at the sound of your fathers voice, gasping. “Dad!” you shove the case onto the table running into his awaiting open arms. “Hi sweetheart” he smiles, giving you a squeeze. “Are you okay?” you gasp, pulling away from his chest to look him over. He chuckles, looking down at you with a smile.
“I’m fine” he grins, rubbing your back. “C’mon I have something to show you” he smiles, leading you out the front door of the Hard Deck. He couldn’t believe the boys put him up to this.
The blue Bronco came speeding down the road.
The speakers loudly played Take My Breath Away as the cheers of the Aviators could be heard miles away. Standing on the back of the Bronco stood Jake Seresin still dressed in his flight suit, singing loudly as he got closer to the hard deck.
“My Love, Take My Breath Away!” he grins, watching the smile on your face.
Bradley smirks as he parks the bronco. You laugh, running down the steps quickly. Jake jumped from the back of the Bronco, catching your body as it collides with his.
“Sweetheart” he laughs, hugging you tight. Just like when he came home from his first deployment, you clung to him like a koala, sobbing into his shoulder.
Jake Seresin was a simple man, he wanted three things in life, love, a wife and a family.
And here he was holding his world in his arms again, building his family piece by piece.
“I’m here” he whispers, fingers tangling in your hair as you sob. “Oh my god you idiot” you laugh between sobs, pulling away to kiss him as if he’d fade away from your arms. The kiss was sloppy but full of love.
“If you only knew how much I love you” he whispers once the two of you part, you sniffle with a smile.
“I may have a little bit of an idea” you laugh, kissing him again.

______
It certainly wasn’t how Y/N expected to start the day off.
For starters little Lorraine Seresin who at only 6 months old was the pride and joy of her parents, woke up at 5:30 AM. Which normally wouldn’t be a problem, Jake would just heat up a bottle, feed her then rock her back to sleep, earning Y/N and Jake another two hours of sleep if they were lucky. However it was a problem when Jake spilled the last of the frozen milk and the last tin of formula had been used, thus forcing him to wake up Y/N to nurse their dear sweet Lorraine.
Not the best start to the day but what can you do when you have a baby, but to make matters worse neither of them had slept more than 3 and a half hours due alternating who got up in the middle of the night.
So as Y/N nursed she caught Jake mumbling something under his breath as he decided to start his day. “Can’t wait till this is fucken over…”
Raising her brows, she scoffed, causing Jake to look up from whatever he was doing “what?” His voice laced with concern as he watched her finish nursing, he followed Y/N into the nursery as she laid Lorraine down once again “Baby what is it?” He continued
Y/N quickly made her way back into their room, turning on the baby monitor before turning back to Jake as he closed the bedroom door. She crossed her arms “You can’t wait for what to be over?” She hissed
Letting out a groan Jake rubbed his temple, placing a hand on his hip “really? Now?” He muttered “look Baby I don’t know what you think you heard-“
“Really?!” She quickly cut him off “because what I think I heard is that you either can’t wait for our daughter to-“
“Don’t bring Lorrie into this okay?” He huffed “you wanna know what I can’t wait for?!” He threw his arms out to his sides “I can’t wait till your maternity leave is over because maybe once you get in the air again and have an adrenaline rush, you’ll get this stick out of your ass and your attitude will be better”
Scoffing Y/N tilted her head “my attitude?” She laughed “I’m not the one who’s the nag, ‘oh there’s baby stuff everywhere’ ‘when did we get so messy, why do we have all this shit’ that’s what happens when you have a baby Jake!” She motioned to him “if anyone has a stick up his ass, it’s you”
Raising his brows Jake pointed to himself “I’m a nag? ‘Jake can you do this, can you make sure everything is sanitized three fucking times’” he mocked “out of the two of us” he motioned “who unclogged your tits when you couldn’t?” he motioned to himself “who’s been doing the majority of all of the house work so you could recover so you didn’t pop any of your stitches” he motioned to himself again
“Last I check, you agreed- nay you signed up for this when you” she pointed to him “talked me into having a baby”
“I’m sorry for trying to be a good husband Y/N!” He huffed “but I didn’t sign up to deal with a whiny bitch!” He froze seeing how red Y/N’s face got and how her brows knitted together “I can’t fucking deal with this right now” he groaned before throwing on a pair of sweats over his boxers and grabbing a zip up hoodie. He turned to the door “I’m going to Bradshaw’s because I can’t-“ He took a deep breath “we can’t be around each other right now”
Watching as he left, Y\N waited till she heard the front door close before she threw a pillow at the floor, not wanting to wake up Lorraine by throwing it anywhere else.
As the day wore on, Jake stayed at Bradley’s, sending Y/N apology texts and trying to call her only to be sent to voicemail. Around noon he finally decided that enough was enough.
Pulling into the driveway he noticed how the blinds in the living room were drawn and Y/N’s car hadn’t moved from its spot.
Upon entering the house he heard the familiar soft tune of one of Lorraine’s music toys playing in the living room. Slipping off his shoes he took a few steps into the house before peeking his head around the corner to see Y/N leaning against the armchair with a blanket thrown over her legs as Lorraine rested her head on her mothers shoulder.
Moving her eyes away from her daughter, Y/N watched as Jake crouched across from her on the floor, pulling the sleepy girl from her shoulder she flipped her around so she could look at Jake before the baby leaned against Y/N’s chest “Hi my Lorrie-Bug” he cooed.
She placed a kiss on Lorraine’s cheek “Say, hi Daddy. Mommy was just about to lay me down for a nap” she hummed
“Why don’t I do that” he asked before Y/N carefully handed Lorraine to him “there” he hummed once Lorraine was settled against him “now Mommy can relax a little bit” he kissed her cheek before looking at Y/N “Does Daddy get to kiss both his girls?” He inquired
Not paying attention to him, Y/N started to pick up the toys that had been scattered across the floor “Why doesn’t Daddy put Lorrie-Bug to bed” she played along
Letting out a sigh Jake went up the stairs, rocking Lorrie as he went to further lull her to sleep before he walked back down the stairs “look Y/N…” he called out “I know I was an ass this morning but I’m sorry and right now I really just wanna kiss-“
“Ohh no” Y/N called out from her position against the armchair, causing Jake to pause on the last step and set the baby monitor down on the table that was a few feet away from the stairs “no you see Daddy, doesn't get to touch Mommy for a very long time” she crossed her arms.
And for the first time since that morning Jake took in Y/N state. Her hair was washed, the scent of her favorite lotion filled the air, a lotion that Y/N specifically reserved for when she shaved.
And she dawned a blue sundress- no
She was dawning his favorite blue sundress. It was open backed thus causing no need for a bra, with blue laces that criss-crossed over her skin, it was a long dress but Y/N had pulled it up so the bottom hem rested right over her thighs to expose her shiny legs that she kept pulled up to her chest.
Licking his bottom lip, Jake stepped off of the last step and onto the floor as his eyes traced over her form, he gulped “…and why is that?”
Locking her eyes on his face, Y/N leaned on her elbows against the chair. Lifting the hem of the dress higher as she pulled her legs away from her chest, spreading them out in front of her. Allowing Jake to see the full view of her naked cunt.
“Ohh Baby” his eyes widened, not prepared for the perfect sight in front of him. Bracing his hand on the railing of the stairs, he sank to his knees to be eye level with her “Y/N” his voice groaned “please, I was such an asshole” he whined “and you know that I am so fucking stupid and so unbelievably sorry” he rambled “and I would do anythin-“
Crossing one arm over her stomach she raised the other, her pointer finger taunting him as it wiggled back and forth “tsk tsk tsk, Daddy shouldn’t waste his time” her hand lowered to rest on her knee slowly sliding down her thigh “because since Daddy thinks that Mommy’s such a whiny bitch” her fingers grazed over her folds causing Jake to let out a moan as he slowly crawled towards her
“He’s gonna have to take a good look, because Mommy got so sick of wearing panties” with the hand that wasn’t teasing Jake she pulled out a pair of white cotton panties from behind her back which caught Jakes attention “so she threw them all out”
As she threw the fabric behind her, Jake’s eyes followed them, a wicked grin came to Y/N’s face “What’s wrong Daddy?” She mocked, causing Jake to turn his attention back to her, he paused, gripping the armrest of the couch as her fingers danced around her clit.
“Y/N” he panted “why? I said I was sorry”
Her mouth moved to frown “oh poor poor Daddy” she hummed before slowly rubbing circled on her clit “He’s so sorry when he wants what he can’t have” she moaned inserting two fingers into her pussy throwing her head back against the chair.
“Mommy loves Daddy so, so much and there's nothing she wants to do more right now than let Daddy fuck her into the floor” she smiled at the ceiling hearing Jake crawl closer to her, and just before Jake was within arms reach. She put her foot on his broad shoulder and shoved him backwards. “Well, I guess it's time for Daddy to be taught his first lesson.” She looked back down to Jake, who had almost a pained look on his face.
Keeping her foot planted on Jake’s shoulder, Y/N closed her other leg to obstruct his view, he whined as she continued to pump her fingers into herself “No touching” she moaned.

Saturday Nights (Top Gun: Maverick: Jake Seresin)
Tumblr media
summary: female reader (she/her) x jake “hangman” seresin Weekend nights in Fightertown, USA were exactly as you imagined them. After moving across the country for school, Y/N can’t help but feel giddy at the idea of spending weekends at the local bar, being hit on by hot military men that make her week of classes and hard work all worth it.
notes/warnings: (18+ to be safe, Minors DNI) age-gap, heavy flirting between jake x reader, semi-established relationship, mentions of alcohol
word count: 970
The Hard Deck was buzzing with the usual Saturday night crowd as you and your friends worked your way towards the bar.
After a long week of boring lectures, mindless discussion posts, and a relentlessly tiring research paper, letting loose and knocking drinks back were the only things on your agenda…besides seeing him of course.
A few of his teammates were already here.
“Bradley,” you greeted, giving him a light side hug as you moved next to where he stood at the bar.
“Y/N, finally! If I had to hear Hangman complain about how ‘she should be here by now’ one more time I think I was going to go insane.”
“Y/N, what can I get you?” you heard Penny ask.
“A corona if you got it, or a vodka redbull”
“One corona coming right up,” Penny responded as she moved around the bar.
“Didn’t take you for a beer girl, let alone vodka redbull” Rooster spoke up.
“Coronas only, not any of that cheap bud light shit,” you stated jokingly.
“I’ll have you know, bud light got me through my first two years at the Naval Academy. We don’t have all those fruity little seltzers you kids have now” Rooster stated.
You gave him a fake incredulous look, hand coming up to your chest in offense as you repeated the word kid to him.
“Rooster, you better not be messing with my girl,” you heard his voice call out.
His girl?
While you liked the way it sounded you can’t help the confusion that crosses your mind.
You and Jake had never really defined your relationship. You were here for school, and he was at Top Gun until the Navy decided he wasn’t.
Besides some flirting here and there and him buying your drinks every Saturday, you weren’t sure there was much going on between you. But for now, you weren’t too focused on figuring it out.
“Heard you’ve been missing me?” you teased as Jake came to rest by your side, his arm reaching behind you to lean on the bar.
“You have no idea darlin’, how’s your week been?”
“Ugh, so stressful! I just got done writing a research paper and I think my brain is fogged from how long I spent staring at my computer screen, you?”
“It just got a whole lot better now that you’re here,” Jake replied, his signature smirk gracing his face as he looked you over.
“I’m sure,” you teased back.
Grabbing your bottle from the bar top with the hand that reached behind your back, Jake intertwined your fingers with his other hand as he led you back to the pool tables where the rest of the group was interacting.
“Y/N, grab a partner. You’re playing against Coyote and I” your friend stated as you approached the group.
You gave her a knowing look; she had been trying to talk to Coyote since you first started coming to the Hard Deck at the beginning of the semester.
Grabbing your beer from Jake’s hands you gave him a teasing look before speaking up.
“You heard her Lieutenant, I need a partner” you backed away, dropping his hand as you went to pick up a pool stick.
“Gladly” he stated, following you to the other side of the table.
You let Hangman do the honors of racking the balls and breaking, sinking two striped balls in the process.
Coyote was next to go, making one pocket before it was your turn.
You scanned the table quickly, bending over to line up your shot before you felt someone press into you from behind, hands firm on your waist. Before you could respond you felt his breath ghost over the shell of your ear.
“Right into that far left pocket, you got it darlin’.”
You swallowed the lump in your throat that formed after your breath hitched, only response you could suffice was a slow nodding of your head. You were too worried that your voice would betray you.
He did nothing but chuckle as he stood back up to his previous position, the vibration flooding through your body.
That bastard knew exactly what he was doing.
You were nowhere near inexperienced when it came to casual flirting and hook-ups, but with Jake it was different.
He was nearly ten years older than you and he knew exactly how to treat you, how to talk to you, how to make you squirm, and he absolutely loved it.
Taking a deep breath, you shook all the thoughts from your head as you realigned your shot. You sank the ball in, and the group erupted into cheers. Phoenix clapped the top of you shoulder while Payback and Fanboy lifted their drinks into the air.
You backed up, a wide smile on your face as Jake pulled you into his side, his large hand resting low on your hip.
“That’s my girl,” he called out
“Thanks for the help Lieutenant,” you teased as you leaned further into him, eyelashes batting as your eyes traveled from his bright green eyes to his lips, biting your own in the process.
His eyes darkened at the sight.
“Behave,” he muttered, just loud enough for you to hear.
“No promises, sir” you responded, walking to the other side of the table to pull your friend into a hug as you gossiped about your interactions with the pilots.
The rest of the night Jake spent his time letting his hands roam over whatever part of your body he could touch.
As you stood between his legs where he rested on a bar stool, his hands would move from your hips to your waist as he moved you to face him in his grasp, hands sinking to cup your ass.
“Seems like I’m not the only one who needs to behave, sir,” you teased.

Christmas Through The Years - Part Two
Tumblr media
Home Sweet Home
' Jake "Hangman" Seresin x female!reader '
I know Christmas has passed but it's still the holidays so enjoy!
Approx. 1.7k words
Warnings: none just fluff and Christmas festivities!
__
Jake and I were coming up on 3 years. These last three years were filled with so much love and laughter, and some arguments, however, the highlight was definitely when we chose to move in together earlier this year. Jake already kept half of his stuff at mine, the only downfall was that my place was a bit of a drive to base which was why we decided to sell our apartments and move together into a house on base.
We ended up falling in love with a cute 2 bedroom house with 2 baths, one of the bathrooms being an ensuite to the master bedroom which both myself and Jake loved. The backyard was a decent size, definitely big enough to host BBQ parties. At the end of the day, it was a great starter home and, we were just excited to start this new chapter of our lives.
Christmas was fast approaching and although this wasn’t our first Christmas together, it was our first in the new home so, of course, we bought everything new to make our home ready for the holidays. We started with getting a tree which brought forth the argument of whether we should go with a real one or an artificial tree. Jake was used to getting a real tree meanwhile I was used to getting an artificial tree.
After going back and forth with each other about the tree we decided that we would get a real tree up until we had children then we’d get an artificial tree to make holidays easier with little ones. Jake had made a comment on how his parents dealt with him and his sisters and still managed a real tree, which earned him a look that said ‘if looks could kill’ and he didn’t say anything further on the topic. Once we had our tree chosen and set up in the house, the rest of the preparation for the holidays was a breeze.
For our tree, we had our mothers send us some of the personal ornaments that we had back in our childhood homes. Included in my ornaments was the one I made out of macaroni in the 2nd grade. I'm guessing my mom had put the picture in the middle of it. The photo was of me holding my childhood cat in front of a Christmas tree, no doubt on Christmas morning.
Jake's mom also sent some of his homemade ornaments. We also had ornaments from my niece and nephew and a few from Jake’s nieces. Alongside our personalized ornaments, we bought plain red and silver bulbs. The only thing our tree was missing was a star as there was a specific one I wanted but couldn’t find anywhere therefore we agreed to keep the tip of the tree bare until we had the right star.
The next couple of days we also worked on decorating other parts of the house, Jake hung the lights outside with the help of Javy, and I made sure the path leading up to the front door from the driveway was done along with the display by the door, careful not to go overboard. I also made a stop at Target one day and got a couple of cute Christmas-themed throw pillows and a matching blanket then just some simple decor we put throughout the house.
By the third week of December, our house was 100% Christmas ready and it was nice sitting back at night surrounded by the Christmas spirit.
Jake and I had decided to host Christmas dinner for the dagger squad as everyone was staying local this Christmas. When we were both free next we took a trip to the grocery store to make sure we had everything we needed and before we knew it, it was already Christmas Eve.
__
Currently, Jake and I were cozied up on our couch, wearing our matching Christmas pajamas, and two cups of hot cocoa sat on the coffee table in front of us. We had decided to exchange gifts tonight instead of tomorrow morning to ensure we had everything made on time for when everyone showed up. Jake had just opened a new game he wanted, and he stated we would be playing tomorrow after dinner.
“Okay babe your turn,” he said as he passed me a box that had a beautiful red bow across it. I opened the box and lifted the tissue paper, seeing the coat I had spotted in a store window one of the days we were at the mall. I had made a comment on how pretty it looked as it was one of those buttoned coats and was a shade of red, my favorite color.
“Oh, Jake! I love it! ” I told him as I unfolded it and stood up putting it on “It’s so warm and it fits perfectly” I did a bit of a half twirl showing it off with the biggest smile on my face “Thank you!” I leaned over giving him a quick kiss on the lips before taking it off and resting it on the arm of the couch “I’m glad you like it, I like making my girl happy” he told me causing me to blush. He knew whenever he referred to me as “his girl” it gave me butterflies.
When we were done opening our gifts, I went to stand up when Jake stopped me and handed me another box “Jake what is this? You already got me too much” I told him as I held the box trying to figure out what else he possibly could’ve gotten me "There’s no such thing as too much when it comes to my girl” he replied as I shook my head, a small blush making it's way back to my face.
I carefully took the wrapping paper off and was met with a plain white box, I furrowed my eyebrows looking at Jake skeptically “I promise you’ll love it, just keep going,” he told me chuckling, I trusted him and carefully opened the white box. Once the box was opened, I reached in to take out the stuffing and the gift itself.
My eyes felt immediate tears once I unraveled the padding protecting it, seeing the exact star I wanted for our tree. It looked perfectly identical to the one I had when I was a kid that unfortunately broke when I was 13. Putting the star on was always my favorite part, but after it broke, it never felt the same putting a replacement on top.
“Where did you find it?” I asked Jake taking my eyes off the star and looking at him as he smiled at me “I called your mom asking if she remembered where your father got the original star and when she told me the name of the store, I tracked the owner down and asked if they had anything resembling the star you had as a kid, unfortunately, they didn’t so I had to resort to looking at antique stores and enlisted the help from some others” he told me as I stared down at the star again.
“It looks exactly like the one that broke when I was a teenager,” I told him tracing my fingers along the points “That’s because it is” he stated as I looked back up my eyes wide “I showed my Ma a picture of it seeing if any of the stores back home had anything similar and that's when she remembered that my grandma had the same one just sitting in her box of Christmas decorations," he told me.
I just stared at him listening to every word "My grandma hasn't put a tree up since my grandpa died so my Ma had to go get it out of storage but once she had it, she dusted it off and mailed it here" he finished smiling.
“Jake I don’t even know what to say” I was completely speechless “You don’t have to say anything but I think we should put it on the tree before it’s officially Christmas,” he said as he glanced at his watch, seeing it was five minutes until midnight.
I got off the couch careful of the star in my hand. As I was going toward the tree I turned around and looked at Jake, “I want you to put it on,” I told Jake smiling “But I got it for you babe” He responded confused by my request.
“I know and it means the world to me but you mean just as much to me which is why I want you to do it" I replied smiling, he returned the smile and got off the couch meeting me at the tree gently taking the star from my hands “I love you, you know that?” He said, I just smiled and nodded.
He gave me a quick kiss on the forehead before turning and reaching up being careful as he situated the star on top of the tree. Once he knew it was secure, he took a step back admiring it. I took this as an opportunity to wrap my arms around Jake's waist and admire the star with him.
“I love you too,” I told him referring to what he said a few minutes prior. He kissed my head wrapping his arm around me and bringing me more into his side. “Merry Christmas babe,” he told me as he caught a glance at the clock “Merry Christmas” I replied looking up at him and seeing him already looking at me, he leaned down and connected our lips.
__
The next day as we welcomed our friends into our home, almost everyone commented on how gorgeous our tree looked, especially the star that sat on the top. We had a beautiful dinner with everyone, then once everything was cleaned up, we all sat around the living room laughing and enjoying each other's company.
When the night was over and another Christmas had passed, Jake caught me on our way to bed admiring the star. He walked over wrapping his arms around my waist and hugging me from behind
“You know someday I hope when we have children, we can share these moments with them and someday pass down the same star,” I told Jake, he smiled thinking about the future, and even though I couldn't see the smile with my eyes focused on the tree and my back to him, I knew what he was thinking at that moment. He couldn't wait either.

Sadie “Siren” Matthews:
“Get up girl! We’re late!” I yelled through the thick bedroom door. In a matter of seconds Bailey emerged looking as rough as I’d seen her in awhile.
“No one speak.” She warned with a gravely voice. I graced and looked at my watch.
“You’ve got five minutes to get cute. We’re going for a picnic.” I told we her as she pouted. “Coffee will be ready when you are.” I tried to bribe her. Caffeine was the way to her soul. Honestly I was filled with joy today. Joy and excitement. We were going to spend the day together which meant it was another day I got to see Bob. All I wanted was for him to wrap me in his arms and call me his girl. I craved it. I was about to yell for her to hurry up when I saw her walk into the kitchen dressed in a flowy white summer dress. Her hair was tied in two space buns on the top of her head. I don’t know how but she managed to put her makeup on flawlessly in such little time. I handed her the studded black tumbler full of caramel coffee and she smiled.
“I’ll drive. Just tell me where to go.” She offered with a small grimace. I was touched by it, she was trying to make up for last night. I climbed into the passenger seat of her jeep as she fired it up. It was a beautiful day out and she had taken the soft top down in anticipation for this weekends weather. The wind flowing through my hair made me feel like I could fly. I turned to Muse before we both belted out the lyrics to the classic rock song to each other. We pulled up to the picnic spot with music blaring. All heads turned as we climbed out of her vehicle. It was a stark contrast to the soft and dainty apparel we wore. I scanned the area to find Bob with his back turned fixing one of the blankets so it stayed down in the breeze.
“Hey Bobby Boy.” I greeted my friend as began setting plates out.
“Siren, how are you this morning?” His southern drawl was shining today. Just enough to make me weak in the knees.
“I’m doing better now that I’m here.” I admitted. He blushed slightly. No fucking way. I had made him blush. Bob who didn’t seem interested in me at all blushed?
“I’d have to say the same.” He told you before scratching the back of his neck. He only did that when he was nervous.
“Say, Sadie. I have that favor to cash in and I was wondering if you would do it for me now.” He proposed. My heart was pounding to say the least.
“Sure, anything.” And you meant it. Anything at all for that man. You looked around to see Hangman with an expectant face. He looked like he had been coaching Bob through something. I crinkled my eyebrows trying to piece it together.
“You’d be doing me a huge favor if you let me hold your hand today .” His voice was shaking. He was so nervous. It was the simplest request. It was the sweetest request. It was something you could do without hesitation.
“Oh Bob, of course I’d hold your hand.”
Bob smiled wide and finally let go of his held breath. It was so innocent and it was just what I wanted. I wanted to ease into things with him because I didn’t want to mess it all up. Just look how things were working out for Rooster and Muse. I looked up after lacing my fingers with his and saw Hangman making a triumphant fist as he celebrated his friends win. The gesture made me chuckle. “I’m so glad you asked.” I smiled. It felt right. I couldn’t quite describe but it felt as if he was meant to hold my hand. Like he was meant to next to me always. I just had no idea that he felt this way towards me and and I was honestly relieved that he did. He let go making me almost whimper at the loss of his touch. He finished setting everything up so that I didn’t have to for once. I was already getting spoiled.
“This should go as well as the Mad Hatters Tea Party.” He turned to joke with me and I broke out in hearty laughter. “It’s ready!” He called out to everyone who were mingling. Bailey walked over with Jake and Phoenix and sat down next to me. Rooster sat down across from Bailey with his sunglasses on. His face looked slightly amused but overall he wasn’t in a good mood.
“I think you might be right Bobby Boy.” I leaned in and whispered making him laugh this time. Everyone dug in picking out the food they wanted to eat.
“So Lauren tell us about yourself.” Phoenix started the conversation. She was always known for that. She liked to learn about everyone around her but not give too much of her away. Her secret was to get you talking first. The blonde spoke up with an extremely feminine and soft voice. It was the opposite of Bailey’s, she was firm and sure when she spoke.
“My name is Lauren. I’m Rooster’s cousin. I’m visiting for a couple of weeks because I haven’t seen this idiot in a long time.” She started to say before taking a sip of her champagne. Rooster was staring straight ahead not breaking contact with Bailey. I could hear her breathing heavily under the weight of his gaze. She was already severely hungover and this was the cherry on top for her today.
“You younger or older?” Phoenix wondered as she took a bite of a juicy, red strawberry.
“Younger. Brad’s always looked out for me.” She answered with a smile.
“Yeah she’s the only one allowed to call me that too.” He said his tone commanding as he kept his post firmly planted, staring down Muse.
“You from his hometown?” Jake asked next and she shook her head yes.
“Yeah, and I only know Fan Boy since he’s stationed out there too. “ she explained before pausing, “so you guys are all pilots too that’s so cool.”
I could tell she was really genuinely impressed. It was as if the fact her cousin was among the best bored her but seeing other people he knew made it real for her. She seemed sweet but definitely shy as she looked down any chance she got.
Robert laced his fingers with mine again making me feel complete once more.
“So you guys are together.” She pointed at Phoenix and Hangman.
“Yeah, you spend enough time stationed on the same base and you just give in.” Hangman stated kissing the top of her head.
“I see you are holding hands.” She commented softly.
“It’s brand new but we’re about to blow all couples out of the water.” I perked up and said staking my claim to the title of cutest couple. It wasn’t even a contest.
“That leaves-“ she began to say before realizing exactly where this was heading.
“You, Bradshaw.” Muse finally spoke.
“Muse.” He stated back shortly.
“Muse? That’s like your call sign right?” Lauren asked. Bailey turned her head towards the unsuspecting girl. Her eyes softened when she saw her curious expression.
“Yeah it is.” Bailey breathed out.
“How’d you get it?” She followed up.
“You’d have to ask him.” Bailey said nodding her head in Rooster’s direction. His cheeks and neck turned red making me chuckle. Bradley Bradshaw could blush at anything, at anytime. It didn’t take much and especially when it came to Bailey Thompson.
“She’s his muse.” Phoenix filled her in.
“Was.” Bailey walked off towards the creek that was near by. Bradley got up and followed he couldn’t help himself. They had always moved in a pair.
“Did I do that?” Lauren asked behind her hands.
“Don’t even worry about it. The wind could’ve blown the wrong way and they’d find a way to argue about it.” I dismissed her. Though I caught the smallest glint in her eyes it almost seemed pleased. I knew better than to ask questions right now but my mother hen inside me began to get worried. Bob saw the worry etched on my face and kissed my cheek gingerly, successfully lighting my body on fire. He gave a quick smile before returning to his eating as I leaned against him.
We all sat and talked waiting for Rooster and Bailey to just make out and save us already. Of course that didn’t happen. Instead I watched as her finger was pointed in his face and his arms were waving wildly in the air. Ah the signs of love.
“Hey guys!” The voice of none other than Fan Boy reached my ears. He instantly knelt down and showered Lauren with a giant hug. “It’s good to see you! Sorry I couldn’t make it last night but I’m here now.” he flashed his perfect smile.
“Eat up honey, we’ve got way too much food.” I encouraged him as he went straight for the fruit platter.
“Don’t have to tell me twice.” He grinned from ear to ear. Mickey was always happier when he returned from seeing his girlfriend. We didn’t see her too often because work at the Navy hospital kept her busy but she was a true delight.
“Tell your sweetheart we miss her.” Jake requested letting every bit of his Texan out.
“You sound like a cowboy. Where are you from?” Lauren asked with a chuckle and a titled head. Phoenix grabbed his hand a little tighter instinctively. She knew what it meant when a girl titled her head and asked questions.
“Texas, there’s actually a lot of us Southerners here.” He began to explain. “Siren is from North Carolina. Coyote, you’ll meet him later, is from New Orleans, Bobby is from good old Tennessee and Bailey is from my home state as well. We actually grew up not too far from each other. Rival high schools and all of that.” He waved off the memory with a fond smile.
“Speaking of southern things, football starts soon. I can only assume we will be having a watch party at the house.” I questioned just so I could give myself time to prepare. The amount of food the guys ate during a football game was astounding.
Lauren sat watching the argument unfold before her eyes with a curious expression. “Why is she his muse?” She wondered. Her tone came off board as if she couldn’t believe she could be anything to Bradley.
“That’s a long story baby.” I said warning her.
“With a lot of history.” Bob finished for me. I looked over at him with a lazy smile. He was feeling more comfortable with the thought of being with me and kissed my forehead allowing me to melt into his body.
“We have time right?”
“Why is it so important?” Phoenix the detective was on the case.
“So we can help them duh” Lauren chuckled.
Her tone threw me just a bit off as I exchanged a look with Natasha. We both had the same thought. We both knew this was going to be trouble. There was going to be an all out war soon enough between Bailey and Bradley. Someone would walk away hurting.
“Are we still coming over for the sleepover and s’mores?” Fan Boy asked with such excitement in his voice.
“Yes, since y’all children begged me to buy all of the stuff so you can have sugar rush and then crash on my living room couch, you better come over and eat. Remember it’s onesies only.” I sighed. Bob must have felt my tension because he grabbed onto my hand.
“Don’t worry darling I’ll help you sort it out.” He promised before kissing the back of my hand igniting the butterflies that finally got a chance to settle at the bottom of my stomach.
“Am I invited?” Lauren wondered.
“Of course, you know Rooster wouldn’t let us go anywhere without you.” Fan Boy said wrapping his arm around her.
And that’s where the problem lied.

Brother's Best Friend - Part 7
Jake Seresin x F!Reader
A/N: Yay we're finally back with our favorite BBF! This chapter was inspired by a photo of Glen at an amusement park that's been floating around recently. If anyone could convince me to step foot into a haunted house, it would be Jake.
Summary: The trials and tribulations of falling for your brother's best friend.
CW: Haunted house attraction with mild (fake) gore, swearing, SLOW BURN YOU'VE BEEN WARNED DON'T COME FOR ME XD
WC: 3000+
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Masterlist

“I don’t do haunted houses,” you say when Jake makes the suggestion for the fourth time that afternoon.
He and Bradley have just returned from the river log ride completely soaked and stupidly giddy. Jake raises his eyebrows at you. “You’ll go on the tallest roller coaster in the park but you’re afraid of a couple of zombie clowns?”
You cringe. “What the fuck are zombie clowns?”
Jake shrugs. “Whatever they are. It’ll be fun.”
“You’re really selling it,” you respond dryly. “But I think I’ll stick to the funnel cake.” You nod toward the stand a few yards away.
“You already skipped out on the log ride,” Bradley complains.
You eye his still-dripping shorts with a grimace. “It’s barely 60 degrees,” you say, tugging up on the zipper of your hoodie for emphasis.
Jake plants himself across from you at the bistro table and leans into it to get your attention. “You don’t actually want to sit here by yourself for another hour, do you?”
You shrug, glancing around. “I don’t mind, actually,” you say, your gaze drifting with the crowd as you pick out the best looking males. “I got asked out twice while you two were gone.”
Jake makes a disgruntled sort of face like he’s getting impatient. “Who asked you out?” he says with a hint of distaste as though he already disapproves. He glances around at the crowd of passersby suspiciously.
“Well, they’re gone now.”
Jake lets out an irritable sigh and looks back at you. “Come on, you’re not a wimp, Bradshaw.”
You shake your head. “That’s not going to work.”
“Let’s just go, Jake,” Bradley says. “We can’t force her.”
Jake stares at Bradley. “Didn’t you hear her? She’s being approached by random men. We can’t just leave her here.”
Bradley snorts. “Why not?”
Jake appears uncomfortable, but only for a moment. He shifts his weight in the chair and turns back to you. “I distinctly remember all three of us at Castle Frankenstein like ten years ago.”
“Mm-hm,” you reply. “And, since then, I don’t do haunted houses.”
Jake grimaces. “Why not?”
You give him a flat look. “You don’t remember?”
Jake furrows his brows and shakes his head.
“Oh yeah!” Bradley exclaims. “Good times.”
You stare at your brother crossly and then roll your eyes.
Jake glances between the two of you inquisitively. “All I remember is getting hot dogs right after,” he says.
You sigh. “You two assholes told me it wouldn’t be scary and then, after luring me in, you took off laughing! You left me behind to do the whole thing by myself.”
Bradley is chuckling smugly, but Jake looks mildly horrified. “Wow, we were shitheads,” he says with a cringe.
“Dude, we’re still shitheads,” Bradley points out.
Jake looks up at his friend with a wince and then rubs his forehead guiltily. “Y/N,” he says. “I promise you that, if you come, we’re not gonna ditch you.”
“Speak for yourself,” Bradley says with a playful grin.
Jake gives him a stern look before glancing back at you. “I promise I won’t ditch you.”
You watch him skeptically, your arms folded over your chest.
“You trust me, don’t you?” he asks.
You purse your lips, trying not to be swayed by the slight squint of Jake’s eyes when he gives you a hopeful smile. You can’t help but daydream for a moment. You picture yourself being chased by zombie clowns with Jake by your side, holding your hand. And, if they’d get too close, maybe he would knock them out to keep you safe.
“Come on, sugar,” Jake says, interrupting your thoughts. He starts rising from him seat and holds out a hand for you. “We can use Bradley as a shield.”
You snort while Bradley shakes his head with a chuckle. “You can try,” he replies, starting for the haunted house.
You let out a sigh and take Jake’s hand, letting him drag you out of your chair. “I’m already regretting this decision,” you mutter.
Jake laughs. “This is gonna be fun!”
You gulp nervously as you step into the darkness. The moment the doors close behind you, your hand reaches out for one of the guys, making sure you're not alone. Somebody gives you a pat on the arm, silently reassuring as you advance. Suddenly, a loud bang to your right makes you jump, and you hear Jake's snicker right before he moves behind to lay a comforting hand on your shoulder.
“Wicked,” you hear Bradley say as he travels slightly ahead of you. You follow your brother with Jake close behind, probably much closer than he would be in broad daylight, especially with Bradley just a few steps away.
“Remember,” Jake mutters from behind. “If you don’t run, they won’t chase you.”
You whimper. “Who won’t chase me?”
In the sparse, flashing lights, you see your brother take off down the hallway, setting off several animatronics as he goes. You slow your pace and Jake, who is still sopping wet, walks right into you. The sudden chill of his saturated clothes takes you by surprise and you yelp, springing away from him.
Jake leaps after you to grab your arm when you nearly trip over the cadaver that falls out of the wall and right into your path. “Having fun?” he asks facetiously as he helps you regain your balance, and you can sense the grin on his face without even seeing it.
“I hate you for making me do this,” you hiss.
Jake wraps an arm around your shoulders and gives them a squeeze. “You’re doin’ great, sweet cheeks.”
You wince at the cold seeping through your shirt and wriggle out of his grasp. “Seresin, you’re all wet!”
“Sorry,” he mutters sheepishly.
Just then, a large gust of air hits you from the side and you scream, flinging yourself right back into Jake’s arms. Jake pulls you in immediately and spins you away, blocking the air current with his back. But your relief is short-lived because, out of nowhere, two clowns with melting faces come barreling toward you with their arms outstretched.
You scream and, despite the sudden weakness in your limbs, start sprinting down the dimly lit corridor, completely forgetting Jake's instructions.
Jake catches up to you quickly and when the clowns all but overtake you, he curls his arm around your waist and practically lifts you off the ground as he runs.
When you finally round the bend and lose the clowns, Jake slows down and releases you, letting you catch your breath as he places his hands on his hips and takes a look around. “That was awesome,” he says with a huge smile.
You’re still gasping for air when you look up at him with a scowl. “You’re a lunatic if you enjoyed that.”
He claps you on the back. “Don’t worry, darlin’. We’re almost half-way through.”
“We’re not even half-way done?” you whine.
Jake chuckles. “Admit it, you’re having a blast,” he says.
You whimper quietly when he motions for you to follow him down another dark hallway. “I am never letting you talk me into this nonsense again,” you grumble, staying close behind him just in case another zombie clown pops out of the shadows.
But what you do not anticipate is the vibrating floor that makes you jerk backward, nor the fog that suddenly floods the corridor, nor the alarming screams that attack from all directions, making it impossible to communicate. You feel the floorboards shift underneath your feet and you hold out your arms to stabilize yourself. You stagger backward into a wall, and it rotates behind you, further disorienting you.
“Jake?” you cry, realizing that you’ve lost him in all the commotion. But your voice is drowned out by the continuous screaming still reverberating all around you.
In the flashes of light, you can see dozens of hands rattling a chain-link fence that looks like it won’t hold for very much longer. You try to push your way back through the wall – the way you came in – but it doesn't budge, meaning you’re stuck in this room until you find another way out.
“Jake!” you yell again, terror rooting you to the spot. The fence to your right finally rips open and gangly arms start stretching out toward you, making you jolt backward. You shriek, moving along the wall slowly because you’re too afraid to fall into another trap.
You reach the end of the chamber, which opens up to a tunnel, and whimper tragically. Going in will surely mean that you will have to complete the haunted maze without Jake, but the tunnel is probably the only way out of this room.
You only have a second to deliberate however, because at that moment, the fence behind you comes crashing down and a horde of zombies escapes. In the shadows, it looks like there might be more than half a dozen of them stumbling in your direction, tripping over one another to get to you.
If you don’t run, they won’t chase you. If you don’t run, they won’t chase you.
But the zombies are still coming, their hideous shrieks even more off-putting than their decaying faces.
You lunge into the tunnel and sprint faster and faster even as the passageway dips and winds and darkens. At a certain point, you are forced to stop running because it gets too dark to find your way without holding your hands out to feel the curve of the walls.
And then you hear his voice.
“Y/N!”
“Oh my god! Jake!” you screech.
“Y/N?” he yells back.
You start pushing on the solid wall before you because it sounds like he’s right on the other side. “Jake, where are you?” You can hear the zombies gaining on you further up the tunnel and you sob, “Jake, please get me out of here.”
Suddenly, a door creaks open to your right and you start, cowering from the blinking red light that filters into the pitch black passage. But then you see Jake’s broad-shouldered silhouette enter through the opening and, in your relief, you throw yourself right into him, burying your face into his chest as his arms close around your back. His grip tightens as you clutch onto the front of his soaked shirt, and you can feel his mouth over the top of your head. “I’ve got you,” he mutters into your hair. “Ive got you.”
But before you can sink into the feeling of having Jake Seresin’s strong arms supporting your trembling frame, you hear the sound of footsteps as the zombies come hurtling through the tunnel. Without a word, Jake pulls you sideways, tucking you and himself behind the open door. He brings a finger to his lips when he sees that you’re about to cry out, and you hold your breath, watching the flashing lights illuminate the exhilaration in his eyes.
You close your own eyes as the zombies near, deciding that no amount of attention from Jake is worth participating in this traumatizing experience. And you promise yourself that you will never be swayed by his stupid, irresistible smile again.
That’s when you feel his body brush up against yours. You open your eyes to see his face hovering over your own, watching you intently as the zombies race by your hiding spot. His mouth curls into a smirk when it becomes apparent that his plan has worked as expected. You try your best to concentrate on the direct threat of flesh-eating zombies and not on his leg that’s pressed into your thigh, or his hand that you suddenly notice is gripping your hip, but it isn’t easy prioritizing escape when his eyes are dancing with delight only about three inches from your face.
You want him to kiss you. You want him to kiss you so badly. Right here in the darkness, concealed behind a heavy, wooden door, surrounded by a dense mist and a musty smell, with the added ambience of distant screams in the background. But, of course, you aren’t going to voice this desire. Because that would be more terrifying than getting eaten alive by a bunch of zombie clowns. So, instead, you say, “Get me the fuck out of here, Seresin.”
Jake nods, stepping away from you slowly, almost reluctantly. He holds his arm out to direct you out of the tunnel through the splintered door. He leads you past the holographic apparitions that float eerily along the walls, through the hall of warped mirrors that make your eyes hurt and your head spin, and over the various trap doors in the final stretch of your journey.
But he stops when you get to a dark, narrow split between two concrete walls. “This is the exit,” he says with a grimace. “Sorry,” he adds.
You shake your head. “I’m not going in there.”
“There’s no other way out.”
You stare at him in horror. “I’m claustrophobic.”
Jake drags a hand over his face. “That’s not good,” he says.
You feel yourself start to panic so you lash out by slapping him on the shoulder. “How could you not know that?”
Jake shrugs. “I forgot, I guess.”
Your breathing accelerates as your heart pounds painfully against your ribcage. “I hate your guts, Seresin,” you mutter. “You’re going to pay for this.”
In response, Jake gives you a very broad, very happy smile, as though you didn’t just tell him that you despise him.
“What?” you say heatedly.
Jake continues grinning. “You’re mad.”
“Yeah, I’m mad! Why are you so happy about it?”
He shakes his head. “No reason.”
You glare at him. “You should fear my wrath.”
He bites his lip, watching you affectionately. “It’s definitely the scariest part of this whole place.”
“I’m angry!” you yell, although you feel a fit of laughter start to bubble up in your chest.
Jake tries to keep a straight face. “Okay, but, could you be angry in there?” He nods at the chasm leading toward the exit, his eyes scanning the area behind you. “Because the zombies are coming.”
He ushers you into the fissure between the walls, keeping his hand on your back as you make your way forward. The only thing that makes up for this stressful conclusion to an already harrowing adventure is that his fingers seem to slip further down your back the farther you walk, trailing past the waistline of your jeans and stopping in the vicinity of your back pocket.
“See?” he says cheerily as the gap between the walls begins to narrow. “It’s not that bad.”
You try to concentrate on the light touch of his fingers as he hooks a couple of them into the back pocket of your jeans rather than the cracking walls rising up on either side of your body that seem to be closing in on you the deeper you go.
“Just so you know, there’s going to be a vibrating floor tile somewhere up ahead,” Jake says quietly, very close to your ear. “It’s coming up.”
You look over your shoulder sharply. “No,” you respond curtly, as if you could will this particular contraption away.
Jake squeezes himself in between your chest and the wall, his fingers regrettably slipping out of your pocket. The space is so tight that, no matter how much you press you backs into the walls, your bodies are still touching. “You can do this,” he says. “I’m right here.”
You frown at him, annoyed and love-sick all at once. Why did he insist on you coming? Why did he bring you along knowing he’d have to babysit you the entire time? Unless he doesn’t mind being with you. Perhaps it’s what he was hoping for.
Jake’s eyes skim worriedly over your face. “Are you okay?” he asks.
You draw in a wavering breath, content to let him fret for another several seconds over your wellbeing. Finally, you respond, “If we survive this hellhole, I’m going to murder you.”
Jake chuckles, placing his hands on your shoulders. “If we survive this hellhole, I’m getting you two funnel cakes.”
You let out a resolute sigh and nod. “Make it three. I want one of each flavor.”
Jake grins. “You got it.”
You bring your hands up to push at his chest, squirming in the compact space against his shirt. “How are you still wet?” you say irritably. “We’ve been in here for hours.”
Jake makes a face. “It’s been like six minutes, actually.”
You groan. “And this is why I don’t do haunted houses.”
Finally – finally – you step out into the cool, breezy sunshine with Jake on your heels. Bradley waves at the two of you from across the walkway, coming over to greet you.
“Took you a while,” Bradley remarks.
You grimace at him. “It’s only been like six minutes,” you retort sourly.
Jake looks like he might be trying to suppress a laugh.
“As if you took off again,” you reprimand your brother.
Bradley shrugs. “The trick is to race through these things and not stop to smell the rotting flesh.”
You shudder. “I need to sit down; my legs feel like jelly.”
“Log ride?” Bradley says to Jake. “While this one recuperates?” He nods toward you with a grin.
Jake pinches at his still soaking shirt and then wrinkles his nose. “I think I’ll sit this one out,” he says. “Promised your sister I’d get her funnel cake.”
“Three,” you remind him.
Jake graces you with an amused smirk. “I would love to see you try to get through three whole funnel cakes.”
As Bradley takes off in the direction of the log ride, you glance at Jake apprehensively. “You could go with him,” you say, cursing yourself for even suggesting it because all you want is to spend some time alone with Jake – not inside of a nuthouse.
Jake gives you a quick smile before starting for the funnel cake stand. “Don’t want to,” he responds.
You fall into step with him, wondering why he’d rather hang around you than his best friend. As he’s ordering the funnel cakes, you decide that you’re reading too much into things and he’s probably just hoping to dry off before going on the next ride, and that his decision to skip the log ride has nothing to do with you at all.
But then, as the two of you watch the mesmerizing creation of the world’s most delicious pastry through the glass window of the kitchen, Jake says this: “Heard you broke up with what’s-his-name.”
Your grip on the tray in your hands tightens but your eyes remain on the rapidly frying dough. It was a casual question, and Jake isn’t even looking at you, but his repeated interest in your dating life continues to give you hope where there probably isn’t any. He’s just making conversation. You shrug. “He was an asshole,” you say nonchalantly.
“Told you he would be,” Jake responds with an equally casual tone.
You bite your bottom lip aggressively, tired of the ambiguity behind his words. “That’s fine,” you retort. “I’ve got options.”
That’s when Jake turns to look at you with a troubled pair of eyes.
“Your words,” you remind him. “So, I took your advice.”
He narrows his eyes. “What advice would that be?”
“I told you someone asked out,” you say, setting the first of your funnel cakes down onto your tray.
“You said yes?” he gapes at you. “To a stranger?”
You watch him pensively for a moment. “You know, I think we’re going to need another tray,” you say, deciding to keep him in suspense for another minute.
Call it payback or something.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hard Deck was packed almost like a pack of sardines. A sea of beige Navy uniforms and their spouses. Making your way into the bar, immediately groaning at the heat.
Following behind Phoenix, sending Penny a smile as you slide up to the bar.
She grins looking you up and down. “Hi Pen, just a beer tonight” she nods, pulling it from the fridge beside her, pulling the cap off and tossing it aside.
“Keep the tab open, I’m sure Phoenix will make her way over” she nods, sending you another smile. Pushing through the group of aviators, making it to your own group. “There you are'' smiling shyly, you hold up the beer in your hand.
“Tabs open for you phoenix” she nods, sitting back in the chair as you sit beside her and Bob. “Hi Bob” he smiles, looking over at the rest of the team sat at another table. “What do you think they are whispering about over there?” you ask, looking at Bob with raised brows.
“I have no idea, they didn’t even know I was here til about fifteen minutes ago” chuckling softly, you nod. “Typical” nodding, you sip from the beer quietly. Around the table sat the rest of the members of the team, Hangman, Payback , Coyote and Fanboy.
“Wait wait- You slept with Halo?” Fanboy looks at Coyote who shrugs with his own smirk. “Did it before Hangman '' he nods to the blonde in front of him. Rolling his eyes at the mention of his name he chuckles. “I didn’t even get a chance with that one” he felt eyes on him from the table over. “I have an idea” Coyote says, setting his beer down, putting his elbows on the table to pull the group in closer.
“Who do we think in the group we can get to sleep with Hangman or I?” he raises a brow. “I bet I can get Halo again” he smirks, looking between the rest of his friends.
“Guys, that’s not fair to them.” Fanboy says from his seat, biting his lip. “I bet Hangman gets with Electra '' Payback says without hesitation. Hangman snapped his head over to Payback. “I’m sorry, what? '' Payback smirks. “The tension between you two it’s perfect '' he rolls his eyes, looking between his friends.
Coyote sat with a shit eating grin. “You guys are insane” he sips his own beer. “I think it’s a bet” Jake looks at his friend across from him. You and Jake had an odd relationship. One minute it would be kind words and the next you wanted to slap that shit eating grin off of his face. “Fine, rules?” He looks at his friend.
“Well, how about we make it interesting then? I say, at least two dates, that's only fair. Whoever sleeps with their girl first, gets'' Coyote trails off, thinking.
“$200” he says, Jake nods.
“How long do we have for this?” Jake asks, sitting back in the chair with raised brows. “A month” he chuckles reaching over, shaking Javy’s hand. “Deal”  Javy claps his hands, rubbing them together. “This will be interesting” he mumbles behind his beer.
Jake watches as you play pool with Phoenix, laughing at god knows what. “Bradshaw!” your yelling then, waving over the mustached aviator. “Electra, Phoenix'' he nods, making his way beside you with a grin.
“How nice of you to join us Lieutenant Commander Bradshaw'' your leaning on the pool stick beside him, batting your lashes up at him. “Stop it” Bradley is shoving your shoulder with a laugh.  Sipping the beer in front of you, nodding to Phoenix to take her turn.
“Glad you made it out” smiling at him, you walk around the table. Hangman feels his breath catch at the way you bend over the table, the way the beige khaki made you look even more breathtaking. This is gonna be easy.
Setting the beer down, Jake stands and makes his way to the pool table. “Phoenix” he nods to the raven haired woman, who sends him daggers back. “Electra” looking up through your lashes at the blonde.
Shooting the ball, you stand “That’s game”. Phoenix sighs from the other side of the table. “Bagman” he smirks, leaning against the table beside you. “Darlin, you know that’s not it” licking his lips, looking over your chest, you roll your eyes. “My eyes are up here Ken” his eyes snap to your face, as he meets a smirk on your lips.
“Ken?” nodding, you take the beer from roosters awaiting hands with a grin.
“You are a walking ken doll Hangman, what can I say?” he laughs. “A walking ken doll? I don’t think I’ve heard that one before” smirking behind the beer bottle, you look at phoenix.
“Want to go again?” you motion to the pool table, “Su-” her mouth closes. “I’ll play” Hangman smirks, taking the pool cue from the woman beside him.
“Fine” you grab the triangle to rerack the balls. “Shall we make this interesting?” he asks from the other end of the table.
“Oh and how shall we do that?” you ask with a hand on your hip. “I win, you go out with me” you scoff. Looking over his face he held a seriousness you rarley saw outside of a jet.
“You can not be serious” he shrugs, “as a heart attack”. Watching over his face, you nod. “Fine, but if I win, you finally admit I’m a better pilot” he stops short, watching the smirk on your face.
“Fine” he nods, “fair game”. Walking around the table beside him, you nudge him aside with your hip, “Excuse me”.
Leaning over infront of him, you take the first shot, hitting him in the stomach in the process. He grunts, hand on his knees. Standing back to your full height, nodding to him.
“Your turn” sipping the beer slowly, watching as he takes his next shot. The game went on like that for fifteen minutes. Small flirty one liners falling from his lips as you passed him that you wished didn’t get under your skin.
“That’s game Electra '' pulled from your daydream, you look up at him infront of you. “What?” he's walking to stand infront of you, taking the beer from your awaiting hand. “I believe” he’s leaning closer, you finally take in the smell of his aftershave. He’s whispering, breath fanning over your face. “You owe me a date” you scoff looking over his face. It was written with seriousness. “I guess so” nodding slowly, he winks.
“I’ll be in touch” he walks away, senidng another wink over his shoulder. “Penny darling” he leans on the bar, holding his card out. “Close her and I’s tab, it’s on me tonight” he smirks.
She shakes her head, taking the card out of his hand. Watching him from your spot at te pool table, biting your lip.
Turning to look at Phoenix, she's smirking. “What the fuck just happened?” you ask. She shrugs with a chuckle. “I believe you now have a date with Hangman ''groaning, you fall beside her in the chair putting your head head on her shoulder. “Jake Seresin does not do dates, I know enough” you admit. “I’d go on a date with literally anyone else, but Jake?” she smirks, looking at you with a shrug.
“I mean a deal is a deal” sighing, you nod. “I guess you are right”. Sipping your beer as even over the music, you can hear the snickers from the peanut gallery at the other table. “They remind me of a group of teenage girls,” she shrugs. “They are'' you laugh, nodding. “Wanna head back?” you ask, standing from the chair. Patting your pockets, pulling out some cash.
“Probably best,” she nods following you to the bar. “Pen!” Penny makes her way to you with a smile. Handing her the cash, she shakes her head. “Hangman took care of it” furrowing your brows, you nod slowly. “Oh he did?” you ask, she nods with a smile. Nodding you shove the cash into the tip jar as Penny shakes her head. “Thank you” she mouths, waving as you follow Phoenix out of the bar.
The morning sun was hot against the tarmac. “Good morning aviators'' Maverick grins at the team in front of him. “After the uranium mission, the Navy needs you again” he’s pacing in front of the group.
“Hence why we are all still here” he nods. “Enemy lines this time with more trained pilots in even more equipped planes" you can feel Hangman's eyes on you from his spot few steps away. “I want to do some more dog fighting. This is going to be a combat mission” looking over you make eye contact with Jake as he grins and sends you a wink. “Hangman, Electra, Fanboy and Payback, you are up first” you smirk.
“Perfect” mumbling to yourself, walking to the F-18 just a few feet away. You smile, climbing up the ladder as Phoenix sends you a grin and thumbs up, Bob beside her doing the same.
Strapping yourself in, pulling the helmet over your head as the canopy closes slowly. The summer sun made the jet even more hotter. You could feel Hangmans eye's, making your skin burn hotter. Making way down the runway, you send the men on the ground a nod and salute. You were in the air in seconds.
“Hangman, you are Electra’s wingman, remember, this is going to be a heavy combat dog fight. These people do not care about anything but getting the job done” Maverick’s voice is in the comms, Jake laughing in his own comm. “Got it” he nods, strapping his mask on.
“Fanboy, how are we lookin?” you can hear the mumbling through the comms. “Maverick is low right,” he mumbles, looking down at the F-18 soaring just below you.
“I’m going after him” Hangman says, veering left and away from your right side. Rolling your eyes, you continue moving through the mountain side. The dogfight was combat based, fighting through the moutians to avoid lock on yourself. “Electra!” Payback says, as you move beside him. “Payback, you go right and I'll go left okay?” he nods, “now!” you yell, missing the lock on both yourself and Payback.
“Electra'' Maverick says, “Where’s your wingman?” you cant help but to roll your eyes. “Looking at himself in the mirror I’m sure” you spit gritting your teeth. The dog fight had continued on. “Payback, Fanboy that is a kill” Maverick says after about 10 minutes.
Flying your way through the sky to get away from Maverick, your panting. “Hangman! A little help!” your yelling into the comms, and can practically hear his eye roll. “You got it Electra, I got eyes on ya” he mumbles. Soon, your jet alerts you of the lock. “That’s a kill” slamming your hands against the glass, you sigh. The comms fall silent for the next few minutes. “Electra! I could use some help here” looking up, you smirk.
“Leave a message bagman, I'm dead asshole” you mumble, flying back to the base. “That’s a kill Hangman” you miss the curses on the other end of the comm from the southerner. You sigh in delight as the canopy opened as a slight California breeze made its presence known.
“What the fuck was that?!” stepping down on the pavement, you turn to face Hangman. “I’m sorry?” you ask. “You were there to help me!” he says, panting. The anger was clear on his face. “You were my wingman and you let me get killed!” you seeth. “You left your wingman. As you always do Bagman” shoving his shoulder, you push past him. “Electra!” he yells after you. He’s running, the sound of his gear is not quiet as he comes beside you.
“El, I’m sorry!” he yells, stopping a few feet behind you. This gains the attention of the rest of the squad. “Is he apologizing to her right now?” Bob leans over whispering to Phoenix.
She leans back to whisper back, “I can’t believe this is happening.” Bob nods in agreement. “What?” furrowing your brows, you turn to face him. He stops in front of you, trying to catch his breath. “I’m sorry okay?” he sighs, looking anywhere but at your face.
“I can’t believe Jake Seresin is apologizing to me right now” you chuckle with a shake of your head. He shrugs with a sheepish smile. “Learn to be a team player Hangman'' he's watching intently as your eyes avoid him completely. He wouldn't admit how badly it hurt him that you wouldn't even look at him.
“I thought after everything we’ve all gone through with almost losing Rooster and Maverick, you’d actually be a wingman. I will accept your apology but actions speak louder than words" picking up your gear as you move past the rest of the team to make your way inside.
Standing under the cold shower in the locker room was a blessing. Closing your eyes with a sigh and completely immersing yourself under the stream of cold water. Washing the day off your body slowly as you replayed what happened in your head.
And yet the man wanted to take you out on a date after the way he treated you. Shaking the thoughts from your brain, turning the shower off and pulling the towel from beside you.
Pulling on the pieces of clothing you had shoved into the locker, pulling your belongings out as you go. Tossing the towel into the dirty bin, making your way out of the locker room. You just wanted to go home. “Electra” his soft southern drawl was always a weakness for you, as much as you hated to admit it. Turning to face him, adjusting the bag on your shoulder as he lets his eyes do a pass over your body.
“I am sorry” he admits, looking at you with sincerity in his eyes. “I told you I accepted your apology” he nods, shoving his hands into the back pocket of the Wrangler jeans he wore.
“So, about that date” he’s got the signature smirk on his lips as you scoff. “I can not believe you right now” he chuckles, pushing off the wall to move closer. “I’m sorry, I am” nodding slowly, you encourage him to continue. “I can’t help that I want my end of the deal” chuckling, you nod. “Pick me up later around 7 alright?” looking over his face for another moment, you make way down the hallway.
He smirks, nodding. “You got it Darlin!” he yells after you, a small smile making its way to your lips.
At 7pm sharp a knock made its way through your home. Looking at the green numbers on the stove, you smile. Opening the door, Jake stood with a small bouquet of daisy’s. “Wasn’t sure if you were a flower kind of girl but” smiling, you take the bouquet from him. “Thank you Jake” you motioned him in, taking the flowers to the kitchen to grab a vase. “So, where are we going for this excruciating date?” filling the vase, you put the flowers in and set it on the island in the kitchen.
“I’m keeping that a secret'' he admits, leaning against the doorframe. Turning, you finally get a good look at him. He wore a simple black t- shirt with a pair of dark wash Wrangler jeans. A black cowboy hat to match. He truly did look good.
“(y/n), you with me?” his voice pulls you from the daydream. Nodding, you smile.
It takes a second before it hits you. He used your name and not your callsign.
“Did you just call me (y/n)?” he chuckles, nodding. “I mean we are going on a date, this is not work” nodding slowly, making your way to him. “Then let's go, Jake” he feels the heat making its way to his cheeks.
He liked the way his name fell from your lips. He kept trying to remind himself, this was an easy $200. He knew he could get even the most stubborn woman on the squad to sleep with him.
“Let’s go then” he nods, holding his arm out to you.
“Why are we at a bar?” you look over at him from the passenger seat of his truck with a sigh. “Have you ever learned to line dance darlin?” pulling the aviator from his eyes he sends a wink your way.
“Jake, I fly planes for a living do I look like I line dance?” he chuckles, climbing out of the truck, making his way over to your side, opening the door and holding a hand out to you. “Well you are going to learn tonight” he grins.
Taking his hand, you slide out of the truck. “I can’t believe you brought me here for a date” you are following beside him, he grins. “It’s a fun learning experience” he admits, holding the door open for you.
Once inside, the music is flowing so naturally. A sea of cowboy hats and the click of boots on the hardwood floor. You almost enjoy the change of pace compared to the usual sea of khaki. The smell of beer was familiar too. “I need a shot at least before I go and embarrass myself” you look over at Jake, he grins.
“You got it” he grabs the hand closest to him, pulling you through the crowd behind him. You stood beside him, looking around the bar.
Watching everyone on the floor dance to the country music that rolled through the speakers. “Your shot m’lady” he holds the glass out with a smirk. Taking it with a smile as you shot it back with a grin. Jake smirks, taking back his own shot.
“Alright c’mon” he’s taking your hand again, pulling the two of you to the dance floor. “Just follow what we do okay?” he asks, a smirk on his lips. You nod your head with a laugh, he smiles. “Just follow me darlin'' he winks. A second later the opening notes of Big and Rich’s “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy '' play over the speakers.
He smirks, “I love this song”.
Laughing beside him, you follow the moves he continued to do, swaying your own hips as the crowd did the same. Following as they turned and clapped. “You got it!” he yells over the music, laughing as you look at him with the biggest smile.
He ignores the feeling in his chest. Holding his hand out, you take it. Pulling you into his chest as the two of you swayed to the music, you were leaning closer to him. “And sang her every WIllie Nelson song I could think of” you sang as he held your body to his.
“And we made love” you sang, taking the hat off his head, putting it on your own. “Oh darlin” he shakes his head with a grin, stopping you from going too far from him, spinning you back into his chest.
He had to admit your laugh was siren song to him.
He never really heard you laugh or seen you smile this much before. He selfishly pulled his phone from his back pocket, snapping a quick photo of you in his hat. You wanted to hate the date, to never have to think about it or Hangman again. He made that hard as he smiled at you, the two of you chest to chest.
A genuine smile.
Sitting in a tiny booth in the back of the bar, you laugh softly.
“Wait, Coyote slept with Halo?” you ask, sipping the beer infront of you. He nods with a laugh. “He never shuts up about it” he admits, his own smile. “Huh” nodding slowly, licking your lips. “You and Coyote have been friends a while?” he nods, sipping his own beer. “He was my only friend at Top Gun. Graduated my number two” looking over your face, he smiles.
You sat with his hat on, picking at the fries in the basket.
“Coyote graduated number two?” he nods. “I feel like I am learning so much information” mumbling, you ate another fry. “What about you and Phoenix?” you smile. “We were the only women in our class, we relied on one another very early on. Plus I knew she was badass and us badass women stick together" he nods, chuckling. “What's the deal with her and Rooster?” He lets curiosity get the best of him.
You laugh, “we all kinda got close, he flirted with her but nothing more than that” you shrug as he nods. “How did you get your call sign?” you ask. He doesn’t miss the twinkle in your eye. Sipping his own beer he shrugs. “I didn’t play well with others, I knew I was the best,” he mumbles. “I also left everyone out to dry,” he nods, looking back at you.
Nodding slowly, he watches as you eat another fry. “I see” nodding, you sip from your own beer. “How did you get yours?” he asks. Picking at the fries in front of you, licking your lips. Without hesitation you say, “Daddy issues”. He chokes on his beer, “What?” smirking, you look up at him through your lashes.
“Okay partially” you admit. “Okay-I" he stutters, you laugh as you sip the beer. “I’m the best” shrugging, you continue “I complete everything in record time but also efficiently, like electricity”.
He nods slowly. “Daddy issues?” he asks.
“Electra was a greek goddess who in short, hated men” you say eating another fry. He chuckles. “So you hate men?” he asks. You shrug smirking, “only a few”.
Walking to your front door, he follows behind. You turn to face him, back against the door. “Here” taking the hat off your head, standing on your tiptoes to place it back on his head. He smiles, "Thank you”. Nodding, you pull out your keys. “Jake” turning to face him, he raised his brow. “I did actually enjoy tonight” he smirks.
“I know how to treat a lady, contrary to popular belief” you smile. “I had no doubt, you just don’t do it for long” he nods. “Wanna do this again?” he asks, leaning against the door frame in front of you. Biting your lip as you lean up to place a kiss on his cheek. “Possibly” opening the door, you look over your shoulder to send him one last wink before the door shut.
That $200 was starting to feel a little less worth it.
-
“So” Coyote stands beside Jake. “So?” he asks, looking over at Javy, pulling his aviators down to look at him. “Halo and I went out last week” Jake grins. “So did Electra and I” he shrugs.
“That $200 is smellin pretty good” Coyote smirks, making his way to the team. The beach was packed with aviators. “Dogfight football, the best way to bond” Hondo smirks. “Let’s play ball” he blows the whistle, dropping the football and moving out of the way.
Running down the beach, Rooster has the ball, looking frantically. “Roos!” yelling, you hold your hands up. Sporting the small pair of biker shorts and bikini top was not helping Jake keep his eye on the prize. It has been a little over a month since the first date, two other dates in that month between depending on schedules.
Jumping to grab the ball, you weave between each aviator. Laughing as you toss the ball into the sand. “Touchdown!” Hondo yells, blowing the whistle. It became tradition to play a game of dogfighr football before any big mission.
The next mission was approaching quickly. Looking over your aviators biting your lip, Jake did look good. Moving into position he made sure he was in front of you. He winks at you behind his own aviators. Hondo blows the whistle, pushing against his body you try to get Phoenix’s attention.
As you make it down the beach she notices then, throwing the ball. Going to catch the ball, your body is then thrown into the sand. A hard body colliding with yours. With a groan, you look up at Jake hovering over you as he smirks. “No can do,” he whispers.  The tension between the two of you was not missed by the team as they cheered for Bob, who made the winning touchdown.
He stands, holding a hand out, pulling your body off the sand. “Thanks” you push past him, making your way to the group with a laugh. Coyote smirks at his best friend, rubbing his fingers together, mouthing “money baby, money”.
Jake sighs, following the group into the Hard Deck.
“Hey! You are all covered in sand” Penny groans. “Sorry Pen” Rooster sighs, looking at her with his signature puppy dog eyes. “It’s fine, please dont get it on the carpet" she shakes her head wih a smile. Jake grabs your hand, pulling you from the group.
“Can we talk?” he asks, looking over your face. The sun brought out your freckles. Nodding, you follow him outside. “I’m sorry” he admits, looking out at the ocean, avoiding your eyes. “Why are you sorry?”  he sighs. “I shouldn’t have done that to you out there, that was a bit aggressive” nodding, you stand beside him. “Hangman” your voice was soft, comforting to him. “It’s okay, I’m not hurt okay?” rubbing his arm soothingly, he nods.
“Alright” he looks over, smiling down at you. “I won't lie you look absolutely amazing” he smirks. The sand on your skin decorated with sweat, you were still the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He can feel the eyeroll from behind your aviators.
“You don't look too bad yourself Seresin” he's leaning down kissing your forehead.
Both of you freeze. It was something so simple but felt so intimate.
You smile as you pull him closer, kissing his cheek just like you did the night of the first date. “Was that weird?” he asks, bringing a smile to your lips. “No, I liked it” you shrug as he smiles. “Alright then” putting an arm around your shoulder, he pulls you into his side.
“Wanna come over tonight? I’ll make ya somethin” he’s looking down at you. “You are gonna cook for me?” he nods. “Jake Seresin” you gasp with a smile hand on your chest. You nod, “I’d like that,” he smirks.
Jumping, you notice Phoenix’s reflection in the bathroom mirror. “What is going on?” She asks, arms crossed over her chest. “What?” you toss the papertowel into the trash, turning to face her. “You and Hangman?” you shrug. “We’re getting along,” she nods slowly.
“He seems to be getting really" she trails off, "mushy with you”. You chuckle, looking at your best friend as she moves closer. “I just want you to be careful okay?” nodding, you smile. “Aw, you care about me” she rolls her eyes, slapping your shoulder. “You know I do" she says as you nod, smiling. “I know. He’s tolerable when he’s not flying a plane” she nods, “whatever you say”.
The table is crowded, Fanboy and Payback sit down first, Coyote joining seconds later. “So, who’s winning?” Fanboy asks, looking between Coyote and Hangman. “Me,” Coyote says, looking at Jake with a smirk. “Halo and I are on date 3, maybe even sheets tonight” he smirks. “How about you Hangman?” Payback asks, looking at the blonde.
“Electra and I are also on date 3. Sheets, debateable” he mumbles, sipping on his glass of lemonade. “Hm, seems like that $200 is gonna be worth the fight” Payback says.
Bob wanted to ignore the conversation, he wanted to act like he didn’t stop to listen in at the mention of your name. He moves away from the conversation slowly, he knows he didn't want his presence to be known. He also knows the group of aviators had no idea he heard what they were talking about.
Bob places himself between you and Phoenix, a worried look on his face. “Bob?” you question, looking over his face. “I’m okay,” he smiles. Nodding you watch as he fiddles with a loose fabric on his shorts.
“El” Jake is standing beside you, hand on the back of the chair. “Wanna head out?” he asks, as you nod. “Sure” standing, you look at your two best friends, both shooing you off. “Bye” waving as Jake takes your hand, leading you out of the hard deck.
“What’s going on with you?” Phoenix questions her back-seater. “I-I don’t think Electra should be getting-” he bites his lip, thinking over his words. “I don’t think she should be getting so close to Hangman'' he admits. She nods slowly, “I know”. She leans back in the chair, sipping her own glass of lemonade.
“Can I shower?” you ask once the two of you make it back to his place. Looking up at the blonde, he grins. “Of course, go ahead” he nods towards the stairs of his home. You have to admit, it was a beautiful, simple home.
Biting your lip, stopping at the end of the steps. You debate your next words. Deciding against it, you make your way up the steps. Jake noticed your hesitancy but chose to ignore it.
Walking down the hall slowly, you smile. Jake had photos of his family, nieces and his parents. You stop at one, smiling. Jake and Coyote at their own Top Gun graduation. Making it to the bathroom, shutting the door behind you.
You lean over to turn on the faucett. Stepping in to the cold stream of water, you sigh in delight. The cool water felt amazing against your skin, already feeling the sunburn. Closing your eyes, you let your thoughts run wild.
You wanted to invite him in the shower with you, take that step. Shaking the thoughts from your head, you coninute to wash the sand off your body.
“Don’t mind me” Jake mumbles, the door opening slowly. “I uh, brought you some clothes to put on” you peek out the curtain, he smiles shyly. “Thanks,” you say, as he nods.
“Don't use all my good body wash either” he warns. “But it smells so good!” you yell after him as he chuckles, shutting the door.
Climbing out of the shower, stopping short at the clothes folded neatly on the toilet seat. Noticing the Naval academy shirt, you pick it up, holding it up. You can’t help the smile to grow on your face.
Walking down the steps, Jake’s ears perk up at the sound of the stairs creaking. “Was it a good shower?” he asks, his back to you. Looking him up and down, biting your lip. He stood at the stove, a pair of sweatpants hang low on his hips, opting to forgo a shirt.
“You know it’s dangerous to cook without a shirt” smirking, you cross your arms over your chest. He looks up at the sound of your voice, opening and closing his mouth.
“I-I did not think that through,” he admits pointing the spoon at you, turning back to the stove. “What?” you push off the wall to make your way beside him. Jumping up to sit on the counter beside him, swinging your legs.
“You look so good in that shirt, better than I do” he admits, looking at you. Smirking, you pose beside him as he laughs. “Don’t let it get to your head now” he mumbles, stiring the vegetables. “What are you making?” you ask, humming at the smell. “Thought we could do a stir fry?” he turns to look at you with a smile.
“Sounds delicious” you smile. The kitchen falls silent then, a comfortable silence. You slide off the counter, grabbing your phone from the table, humming.
“Whatcha up too?” he asks. You do selfishly snap a photo of him, what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him. Smirking, you may have peeked at his own playlist, stealing a few songs.
Donna Summer’s “Hot Stuff” began playing through your phone speakers. He’s laughing in seconds as you dance around his kitchen, singing along to him.
Setting down the spoon he was using he's turning to face you with a smile. “Dance with me Seresin!” he laughs, taking your hands as you sang to him. “Gotta have some love tonight” you sang, squealing as he's pulling your body into his.
“I need some hot stuff” he sings along in your ear. Your back to his chest as he guides your hips to sawy with his. Laughing, he spins you out and back into his chest. He dips your body with a smirk. Biting your lip, looking between the green of his eyes to his soft pink lips. He notices, smirking. The two of you leaning closer as he connects your lips.
You wrap your arms around his neck, holding onto him as he pulls the two of you back up to stand. His hand on the back of your head, tangling in your hair to get your lips closer.
In all the years you have known Jake Seresin, you never expected to be kissing him in his kitchen wearing his shirt. Jake’s tongue swipes along your bottom lip, you moan against his lips. He groans, pulling away slowly. Resting his forehead against yours, his eyes falling closed as he nudges your nose with his own.
“Not bad,” he whispers, smirking as he chuckles. “Shush” he nudges your nose again, his own smirk on his lips. The ping of his phone pulls the two of you apart, grabbing it from the counter, his heart sinks.
COYOTE: I’m thinking if I need cash or a check ;).
Jake sets the phone aside. “You okay?” then he’s pulled from his thoughts at the sound of your voice. He nods.
“Yeah yeah” he types a quick reply.
HANGMAN: We are gonna need to talk about this, see you tomorrow.
He ignores the ellipses that follows.
-
The week flew by, the mission was now staring the team in the face. Standing in the middle of the ocean on the carrier, you sigh. Looking over the railing at the ocean, no matter how many times you were on a ship, it never got easier.
“Electra?” standing to your full height, you smile at Bob. “Hey Bob” he smiles, walking closer to you. “Can I ask you something?” you nod as he leans beside you, sighing. “Are you really into Hangman?” he asks, there's a hesitancy in his voice. Biting your lip, you look over at the WSO. “I-I don’t actually know Bob” you say, hesitating. “Why?” you ask, he shrugs.
“I guess it’s strange to see you two now, together. Before it was you and him practically ripping eachother apart” nodding, biting your lip. “It’s weird isn’t it?” you ask as he nods. “I want the best for you Electra, I don’t-I don’t want to pry” shaking your head, resting a hand on his arm.
“Your concern means the world to me Bob” he nods, biting his lip. “Okay” he puts a hand ontop of yours, giving it a squeeze. “I’ll see you soon okay?” he nods, watching as you make your way inside.
Walking along the narrow hallway, you can hear the mumbling of voices. “I gave you a month Seresin” Coyote's voice was hushed but clear as day in the quiet hallway. Stopping around the corner, you can't help your curiosity listening to the two of them. “I know, I know. The bet’s off Javy, I’ll give you the cash and move on” Jake sighs, shoving a hand into his pocket.
He felt his stomach drop. “You are giving up that easily?” Javy asks in surprise, a smirk then making its way to his lips.
“You didn’t get her to sleep with you” Jake sighs. “Javy,” he shakes his head. “I can’t believe I beat you” Jakes counting the twenties. “The $200 wasn’t worth it” he mumbles between counting.
“Did you fall in love with her or something?” Shoving the cash in his hand, he looks at Coyote. “Does it matter if I did?” Javy notices you then, swallowing nervously as he looks over Jake's shoulder.
“$200 fucking dollars?” you ask hurt evident in your voice, Jake closes his eyes. You knew things with Jake were a bit too good to be true. “I was $200 dollars in your wallet?” Jake turns to face you and he feels like he’s been stabbed, the knife being twisted.
Tears made their way down your cheeks, wiping them quickly with a sigh. “El no” he makes his way to you quickly. “I was a fucking bet Jake Seresin? '' you ask. "No (y/n), please let me explain" you scoff, shaking your head. "You are exactly what the say Jake, a playboy who'd rather get the notch on the belt than an actual relationship" shaking your head as you back away from him.
“No, please listen to me” he’s moving closer. “It meant nothing to me (y/n)” he’s pleading now, tears in his own lash line. “Clearly" you chuckle, looking between both men. "As you are giving Coyote his winnings" you spit. "And god forbid you didn't sleep with me!” he sighs, trying to take your hands in his. "It was more to me than that (y/n)" he's moving closer, watching as you shake your head.
Getting close enought, he stops as your hand connects with his face. Closing his eyes, he sighs. “I deserved that '' you chuckle, nodding. “Yeah, yeah you did bagman” pushing past the two aviators, you stop at the end of the hall.
“You are just a real winner aren't you Jake?” he closes his eyes as he looks away from you.  Your voice dripped with Venom. “I expected better from you Coyote. I hope it was worth the $200 you put another innocent woman through to get” he sighs.
Phoenix is stepping out of her quarters as you pass, she notices the tears on your face. “Hey hey El'' she reaches out to stop you, grabbing the arm closest to her. Turning to face her, she notices the tears as they roll down your cheeks. “What is it?” she’s pulling you back into her quarters, shutting the door.
“I was a bet” you look up at her between sobs, she furrows her brows, then she sighs.
“That asshole” she mumbled to herself. Sitting on the chair, you sniffle wiping your face. She looks at you with sympathy.
“He actually made me love him,” you whisper, voice cracking. “Oh honey” she's beside you instantly, holding you against her chest. You felt awful crying into Phoenix's chest. She warned you about this, and yet, you ignored her warning.
You should’ve known better than to let the smooth green eyed pilot in so closely. “I’ve got you” she’s rubbing your back in soothing circles. In the years the two of you knew each other, she saw you this way one other time and it killed her. She hated to see your brave face torn down by him.
She’s crouching in front of you, cupping both cheeks.
“Listen to me” she’s holding your face. “Jake Seresin is an asshole” you chuckle as she smirks. “He’s an asshole who let you fall in love with him. You are the most badass woman in the Navy" you smile sadly at your best friend. She continues "and one of the best pilots the Navy as ever seen (y/n)” you smile against her hands, nodding.
“And you are gonna get that promotion after this mission, rub it in his face” you smile, laughing.  “There she is'' she grins, standing to her full height. Wiping your cheeks, you nod with a smile.
“I appreciate you Trace'' she smirks, looking at you, hands on her hips. “You know it (Y/L/N)” holding her hand out to you as you take it, “Now we’re gonna kick some ass” she grins.
Bob sends you a sympathetic smile as you follow beside Pheonix into the debriefing room. “You okay?” he’s whispering, reaching out to give your arm a squeeze. ”As always Bob” smiling, you nudge his shoulder gently.
“Aviators” Cyclone stands at the front of the room, hands on his hips. “We are t-minus one hour til we send you into enemy lines” you can feel Jake's eyes bore into the back of your head.
“You are air support to the team on the ground who are infiltrating the base” Maverick says. “You are all amazing pilots, you prove it time and time again" Cyclone says, "let’s bring you all home safely” Maverick adds. Nodding, you take a deep breath.
Jake watches as you walk past him, Phoenix sending daggers towards him. “Electra” your body stiffens. Phoenix stops, looking between the two of you. “Go” you nod, turning around to face him. “Hangman” he cringed slightly, he hated the way your voice dripped with hate put also pain.
“Can I just please explain myself?” he’s moving closer, looking down at you. The way your tear stained cheeks stared back at him. It made his heart hurt more.
“I should slap you again” you seeth. “I am more than a bet” he nods, looking at you. “I know that, I-I should have never agreed to it” you chuckle darkly. Looking over his face as it held nothing but seriousness. “I am a pilot in the Navy, I fly into death everyday” you whisper stepping closer to be chest to chest with him. “But yet, it hurts more knowing I was a flimsy $200 bet” he nods, looking at the anger written on your face.
“I could take anything else Hangman, I take enemy fire. I can take the doubts from superiors who doubt my ability because I'm a woman." you seeth, looking over his face. He's biting his lip, he's never seen you this angry before. "But yet, I let you in and let you weasel your way into my heart just to bestabbed in the back” his heart breaks more.
“(Y/N), I know I should have never agreed to the stupid bet, Coyote was on about how he could sleep with Halo-” holding your hand up, you stop him. “He did this to Halo too?” nodding, he watches your face change. “He better tell her or I will do it myself” he nods.
“I fell in love with you (Y/N)” walking towards the the door, you stop in the frame, turning to face him.
“You should have thought about that before you used me for a fucking bet.” You turn away from him, biting your lip.
“Good luck” mumbling over your shoulder, walking into the hallway.
Running your hand along the jet, checking the checklist in your head. Missing the approaching footsteps. “El”  looking over at Coyote, narrowing your eyes behind your aviators.
“Lieutenant Machado” he sighs, hands on his hips.
“I’m sorry” you nod looking back at him. “Did you tell Halo you won?” he nods slowly.
“I didn’t realize Jake fell in love with you” he admits as you shrug. Moving closer to him, you sigh. “I hope you both realize your faults. We are not objects. Halo and I are just as good, even better than you two” he nods.
“Use that money and buy her something to apologize.'' he smiles shyly. “I’m gonna ask her out officially, once i apologize forever” smirking, you nod. “As you should, now please go” you whisper.
He nods, making his way to his own F-18. Strapping yourself in, you close your eyes, sighing heavily as the canopy closes. “We are clear for takeoff, on your count” Cyclone sends each of you off.
“Let’s get home safely,” Maverick says over the comms.
“Bob, do you have anything?” you ask, flying beside him and Phoenix. “Nothing yet” he latches the mask into his helmet. “How about you Fanboy?” Hangman's voice is calm over the comms. His heart racing miles a minute. “I have a bogie, about eight miles out” Fanboy says, looking out the window beside him.
“Electra, I have two more bogies, 6 miles” you nod. “Spread out, let's give em hell” you smirk. You veer to the right, flying above the two pilots now beside Hangman. He looks over, watching as you mostly concentrate on the boagies.
He felt his racing heart ease with you beside him.
“Coyote, I really need some help here!” Hangman grits his teeth, his strained. “I’m comin man” Coyote replies. You smirk, getting a lock on the jet following Hangman. “No need” veering left away from them as the missile collides with the plane. A parachute left seen through the smoke.
The fight continued between the team. “Rooster!” your voice filled with panic. “C’mon man, I can’t fight this guy myself” your doing everything to get away from the pilot. “Electra, I need you to go through the mountains, I’ll meet them on the other side” you nod, panting into the comms.
“You better be Rooster god damn it” he chuckles softly to himself. He kept his word, flying through the mountain as you flew past him, smoke in the air and one less enemy plane. “You know I got you El” he smirks beside you. The comm line was quiet before Hangman's voice breaks through “I’ve lost the right engine!” breaking in and out.
“I’ve been hit, I repeat” he’s trying to stop the fire, looking around at all the enemy planes on his sides.
“I’ve lost the left engine”. he's attempting to put the fire out, restarting the right engine.
His heart is racing, looking everywhere for the one person who could make it better. “I’ve lost control!” it was matter of minutes before his jet began spinning.
“Electra” his voice is pleading. He's on the verge of tears as he continues over the comms, "Electra, I am so sorry."
Your can feel your heart breaking.
“You need to eject Hangman!” your yelling, pushing more G’s to get closer to him. “I can't do this Electra” he’s mumbling, watching as his altitude is lower and lower. “Yes you can Jake Seresin, you need to eject!” closing his eyes, he’s pulling the ejection handles.
In a matter of seconds he’s out of his jet, parachutes erupting into the sky like fireworks.
Watching as his body falls into the ocean below, you have no idea if he made it out alive. “Dagger team, return to the carrier” the team says, coming in static as you follow beside Rooster.
Flying mindlessly, letting your eyes continue to drift down to the ocean below.
“We need rescue” you mumble into the comms. “We’ll take care of it Lietuenant (Y/L/N)”. Once landed, you close your eyes at the sun once the canopy opens. You miss the way Maverick makes his way to your side.
“We have search and rescue out for him” jumping, you look down at Maverick. Nodding, you climb down the ladder with a sigh.
“Can someone please inform me when you find him?” he nods, hand on your shoulder. “It’s gonna be alright, okay?” you smile sadly. He sends you a sympothetic smile, making his way back inside. Walking towards the door, you run into a hard chest, stumbling slightly as two hands catch you.
“El” your looking up at Rooster, who sends you a comforting smile. “Is it bad I’m terrified he’s dead?” you ask before you can stop yourself. He shakes his head. “No it’s not, as much of a pain in the ass he is, Hangman makes up this team” you nod, taking a deep breath as your head connects with his chest.
He’s wrapping his arms around you tightly. “It’s all gonna be alright” he’s mumbling. Nodding, you wrap your own arms around his waist. “Electra!” pulling away, you look at Coyote. “Javy,” he’s panting, moving closer he's pulling you against him. “It’s gonna be alright okay? H-He’ll be okay” his voice shakes, you’ve never heard him so upset. “Of course he will, it’s gonna take more than that to get Jake Seresin down” he nods looking down at you.
“He begged for you” you nod, resting a hand on his arm as your own voice shakes. “I know and if they don't find him" stopping yourself, looking up at Javy. "I wont be able to live with myself" he nods, hugging you tighter. “Let’s go inside okay? Maverick is gonna let me know anything” you say as he nods, making his way inside.
Looking out at sea one last time, you follow behind.
Forty eight hours.
It took them forty eight hours to find Jake and his plane. You are then standing in Mavericks office, staring out the window. The tarmac lined with F-18s. You hug Jake's flight jacket tighter to your body.“Lieutenant (Y/L/N)” turning around, you face a smiling Maverick.
“He’s on his way home” the tears prick your lash line.
“He’s coming home Electra" he makes his way closer to you. "C’mon chopper should be landing any minute” nodding, you follow closely behind him.
The leather bomber jacket was comforting to you. Coyote gave it to you as the two of you sat together hours before.
“I found Jake’s jacket” looking at him, you furrow your brows. “Which jacket?” he pulls the leather jacket out. “His flight jacket” you smile, holding a hand out to him as he hands it to you. Tracing the stitching of his patches sewn in. Before you know it, you are pulling it over your shoulders.
It smelled like him. “I’m mourning him like we were married” you mumble. Coyote shrugs, “you guys did fight like one” narrowing your eyes at him, he holds his hands up in defense. He smiles nodding, “Jake would want you to have that.” nodding, you pull it tighter around you.
“You with me?” Maverick asks from beside you. Standing on the landing strip, you nod. Pulling the aviators over your eyes, watching as the helicopter makes its landing. Shoving your hands into the pockets of the flight jacket, you watch as a team of medics make their way to the helicopter.
“He’s home Electra” looking up at Maverick, you nod eagerly.
The stretcher seemed so far away, he seemed so far away. “Go ahead” jogging to catch up with the nurses, you pull the aviators off your eyes, smiling sadly at the pilot. He was unconscious but still looked like Jake.
A few scrapes and a busted lip but he was Jake. “Jesus” you mumble, taking his hand as you following beside him as they wheel him inside.
Following the nurses all the way to the med wing, untill a nurse is stopping you. You are dropping his hand with a sigh. “I know” she’s sympathetic. “Let me get him stable and he’s yours” you nod, sniffling.
“Okay” she sends a sympathetic smile before she’s pushing through the double doors. “(Y/N)!” there's two sets of footsteps down the hall. “Bob? Phoenix?” you turn to face your best friends.
“They find him?” Bob asks first, panting. You nod, your bottom lip tembeling.
“Was he awake?” Phoenix asks as you shake your head, turning to face the swinging double doors again.
Twenty four hours passed before a nurse came out of the swinging doors. The same nurse who stopped you hours ago. She’s smiling. “He’s awake” you stand as she holds her hand out to you.
Following the nurse, you stop at the double doors. “Tell Coyote” you say, phoenix nods from her seat. “He’s asking for you, Electra I’m guessing?” she smirks over her shoulder. You blush, “That’s me”.
She stops at the two of you at the door, looking at you. “I think you should have this, we found this in his suit” she holds the polaroid photo out to you. The edges were torn but the photo was clear as day.
The night you stayed with Jake for the first time in his Naval academy shirt.
“It was tucked into his chest pocket” wiping the tear off your cheek, you nod. “He’s gonna be bruised okay?” she warns, hand on your shoulder. “He’s okay just remember that” nodding to the door, she sends you a warm smile.
Pushing the door open, you close it quietly behind you. The room was just monitors beeping and horrible fluorescent lighting. Looking around the room and then back down to the polaroid in your hand as more tears rolled down your cheeks.
You look up at the sound of his groan. He’s smirking, laying in the hospital bed, with a wrap around his ribs. His bruises now turned a deep purple. “Darlin” his voice is hoarse.
You can’t help the sob that falls from your lips. He sits up, groaning as he tries to stand. Rushing to him with a hand on his shoulder, you encourage him to sit back down.
“Don’t get your ass up” your voice is soft as he chuckles, wincing as he falls back into the bed. “Yes ma’am” he salutes, looking up at you.
“God damn you” turning from him to wipe your cheeks. “Look at me” shaking your head, you take a deep breath.
“Electra, look at me” his voice is stern. “I need you to look at me” his voice falters slightly, still stern. Turning to face him, his own tears in his eyes. “Why did you have to do that?” he sniffles.
“You needed to know, if I did not make it out-” shaking your head, you take his hand. He pulls you to sit beside him on the bed.
“Listen to me please” his thumb is running over your knuckles soothingly. “I may have made that bet with Coyote” you can’t help but cringe. He nods slowly, a sympathetic smile on his face as he continues. “I made that bet with Coyote thinking if maybe I slept with you the feelings I had would just” he pauses “go away”.
You furrow your brows as he smiles. “So I agreed to it, but then we went dancin” he grins as you chuckle. “And then we went out on these dates. I forgot about the whole bet, I just wanted you” he whispers, reaching up to cup your cheek.
“I don't care about $200, I don't care if he took the gloat” you lean into his hand, closing your eyes as more tears fell. Catching them with his thumb, he wipes your cheek gently. “I fell in love with you (Y/N), you are the most amazing person, most amazing pilot in the goddamn Navy” you chuckle, sniffling. “Can I have that on record?” you ask as he chuckles, groaning in pain after. "Don't mak me laugh" he warns. “I fell in love with the way you wanted to dance in the kitchen to the god forsaken playlist I put together. I fell in love with the way you don’t put up with my bullshit and that is enough for me” he grins. “You are the most badass woman I know, I fell in love with your spark and passion for what you do and for how much love you have for your friends” shaking your head, you kiss his palm gently smiling up at him.
“You are worth so much more than a stupid $200 bet” you chuckle, looking at him. “I regret it” you nod, looking at him. “Jake” shaking his head, he looks at you. “I understand if you are still angry at me” opening your mouth to speak, closing it as he continues.
“I should have never done that,” shaking your head, reaching over to cover his mouth.
“Jake Seresin, you may need an ego check” he raises his brow as you continue. “But you also know how to love under that thick skull, you probably took me on the most romantic dates of my life” he chuckles under your hand. “Also, no man ever got my favorite flower right on the first date” he smiles proudly.
“I hid behind my own ego biting back becuase I knew I was not on the Hangman roster” you smile, moving the hand covering his mouth to cup his cheek. “I built walls that you destroyed,” he smirks. “Does this mean, you love me too?” he asks. Rolling your eyes, you lean down to connect your lips to his gently. He hisses softly, cupping your cheeks as your lips molded together. He kissed you like his life depended on it.
“I love you” he's breathless as you disconnect both pull away, he looks over your face, you smile. “I love you too”
“I may have lost $200, but I won the best prize” looking over your face, he’s cupping your cheek again. “Oh did you?” you ask as he smirks.
“I did, I won the sexiest Naval Aviator in the whole world” laughing, you lean down to connect your lips to his again. Moving his hand to your waist, he's puling your body as close as he possible can. He didn't want to miss the opportunity to have you next to him.
You smile, moving to lay beside him, he wraps you in his arms. The silence falls over the room. "I can't say this is how I imagined it" he mumbles, voice full of sleep. You hum, looking up from chest, "what's that?" you ask. He smiles, "I didn't know what to think if you'd forgive me, let alone stay with me" you smile, kissing his chest gently. "Get some rest" you whisper. "I love you" he mumbles, head falling ontop of yours as his arm stayed around your waist, hugging your body into his side. Before you can reply, he's snoring above you.
He may have lost $200 but he won the best prize of them all, you.

Mr. Perfectly Fine (Top Gun: Maverick: Jake Seresin)
Tumblr media
a/n: just listened to this song and it practically writes itself…right???
summary: female reader (she/her) x jake “hangman” seresin notes/warnings: not much, Jake is an asshole but there’s not a whole lot of detail or dialogue, it’s more in a general sense. word count: 1.0+k
Heartbroken.
That was the best word to explain it—the feeling that settled after those thirteen weeks.
Thirteen weeks of the best and worst time of your life. Being selected to attend Top Gun was everything that you had look forward to while at the Naval Academy and the kickoff point to starting your aviator career. Only the best of the best would come through here.
You knew that as a woman, everything you had accomplished took more work than any of the other men in your same position. You deserved to be here, competing against the best.
During your time at Top Gun, you had met some of your closest friends, Natasha “Phoenix” Trace and Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw. They were always there to pick you up, even when you were at your lowest points.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
You weren’t sure exactly how everything ended so quickly. You and Jake “Hangman” Seresin had become unbelievably close in the first half of your Top Gun training.
He almost seemed too good to be true, which he was. He was the most stereotypical good-looking military man. His perfectly gelled hair and bright green eyes piercing through yours as everyone entered the first day of training.
He had a natural confidence that radiated everything around him, he was the shit, and he knew it.
You thought it was attractive at first, his confidence and competitiveness carried him throughout the program and even caught your attention, often warding off the rest of the team and other personnel on base.
When they thought of you, they thought of Hangman. You were his girl.
They all heard when he told you that he had been waiting for a girl like you all of his life, that he was here to stay, that he would never go away.
But as training had continued and it became clearer that the top of the class achievement would become a competition between the two of you, that is when everything changed.
He became distant, stopping all communication during training. As you were recognized for you success on a training mission you could hear the small remarks, he would whisper to Coyote about how you must have slept with the instructor for that.
It hurt. He was an asshole, and he didn’t even try to hide it. He thought so lowly of you that he resorted to rude and untrue remarks.
You knew he prided himself on his flying and had made it abundantly clear to the whole class on the first day that he would be leaving the program as top of the class, but his comments—they were personal.
Every time you had tried to talk to him about it, he would just say the same thing, “Leave me alone”
It was a complete 180 switch, and he couldn’t even bother to give you a proper explanation.
He always blamed it on his competitiveness with half-assed excuses and insincere apologies.
So yeah, you were pretty heartbroken after those 13 weeks.
Hangman had graduated Top Gun as top of the class, you coming in second.
From that point on you vowed to yourself to not let a man get in your way of accomplishing great things in your career. It was hard to get up every morning and put on a serious face, but you had to do it for yourself. Prove to yourself that you deserved to be where you were.
───── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─────
Returning to Top Gun was enough to make anyone nervous. It was a grueling 13 weeks that every elite aviator could recall. From the early mornings to the late nights at the Hard Deck.
You stood in the back of the bar by the pool table with Phoenix, Payback, and Fanboy. You had recognized them but never really gotten the chance to meet before this special detachment.
You noticed Coyote earlier by the bar, so you could only assume that he was here. Everyone who entered seemed to be the best aviators the Navy had, so of course he would be here.
As you lined up your shot with the cue ball you were interrupted as you heard a voice speak up.
“Look at what the cat dragged in,” he spoke up.
“Bagman, guess they’re inviting anybody huh?” Phoenix responded.
You smirked to yourself; your presence not known to him yet. You loved Phoenix, while she always disliked Hangman’s cocky attitude, she had absolutely despised him after everything between the two of you had occurred.
“And who are your friends?” Coyote spoke next to him.
“Payback”
“Fanboy”
They each spoke up before Phoenix nodded in your direction.
“And I think you guys remember Y/C/S” she stated teasingly.
You stood up from where you were previously bent over the pool table. Locking eyes with Coyote and then looking to Hangman you didn’t miss the surprised look on his face before it hardened. It was slight but you caught it.
Walking around the pool table so you were closer you greeted them with a slightly warm and fake smile, “Boys.”
The tension was slightly diffused as the group had turned to hear the sound of peanuts cracking.
Hangman was the first to speak.
“When did you get here?”
“I’ve been here the whole time,” the man spoke.
“Ah a stealth pilot” Hangman stated jokingly.
“Uh actually, I’m a weapons system officer”
“With no sense of humor,” Hangman continued.
“What do they call you?” you asked him.
He seemed nervous, pushing up the rim of his glasses as they had slightly fallen.
“Bob”
“No, your call sign…” Payback clarified.
He paused for a second before answering again.
“Bob.”
You giggled at his answer before handing him your pool stick, a silent invitation to play and join the group. You could practically feel the daggers being sent into your back from Hangman’s direction.
As the group continued to catch up, your longtime friend Rooster had finally joined.
You rolled your eyes as you stood with Phoenix, Rooster, and Bob as you could hear Hangman over the music. His arm wrapped around some girl as he bragged about his achievements and status as 1 of 2 new generation aviators with a confirmed air combat kill.
“Really?” you heard Rooster speak up. You gently tugged his arm, knowing exactly where he was going with this.
Hangman turned his attention toward the group.
“Yeah, got it this past March,” he stated matter of factly.
“Say, Y/C/S, when did you receive your first confirmed air combat kill?” Rooster asked.
His face was clear with amusement and proudness as he watched Hangman’s face fall as he awaited your answer.
“Last May, I think.” You smiled at him before walking past him and the girl to the bar.
His eyes and attention followed you until you sat at the bar, waiting for Penny.
This was it, the moment you have been waiting for. Hangman wasn’t a better pilot than you and if this mission was going to solidify that, then you were going to work your ass off to be sure to get picked.
Jake would just have to deal with it.

Christmas Through The Years - Part Three
Tumblr media
I'll Love You Forever
' Jake "Hangman" Seresin x female!reader '
Another part of the series! <3
Approx. 1.5k words
Warnings: as per usual, just sweet sweet fluff!
----
If you were to ask Jake Seresin when he knew he had found the one, he would say the minute you locked eyes with each other. Before meeting you, he didn’t bother glancing in the direction of committed relationships, not because he was avoiding commitment but rather because he just simply hadn’t found the person he could see himself spending the rest of his life with.
When he saw you at the Hard Deck, it was as if a switch had been flipped and suddenly he could see himself buying a house, getting married, having kids, and when the time came, retiring with you by his side for all of it. That's why Jake found himself admiring the ring he had tucked away in his sock drawer every time he went in there, waiting for the perfect opportunity to ask you the one question that would take your relationship to another level.
You and Jake had been dating for 4 years now. You were both madly in love with each other and couldn't imagine going through life without one another, which paired perfectly with the proposal Jake had been thinking of since he first met you.
Christmas was becoming a special occasion in your relationship which is why Jake wanted to ask you to marry him on Christmas morning. You had mentioned to Jake one day while you were scrolling on TikTok that the idea of being proposed to on Christmas seemed so sweet and once he heard that, that was the final push that he needed to move forward with this proposal.
This Christmas you and Jake were planning to visit his hometown to see his family for the holiday and ring in the New Year with them. Jake knew the only opportunity he would have to ask would be in the morning during your gift exchange because the rest of the day would be spent packing and tidying up the house before leaving for the airport.
Currently, it was nearing midnight and Jake was waiting to make sure you were sleeping before quietly retreating downstairs to get everything ready for the morning. He grabbed the ring from the drawer and set out on his mission of making sure everything was perfect.
He started by wrapping the ring box then tying a white ribbon around it, then he carefully placed it at the back of the tree that was set up with all the other presents underneath. He made sure it was close enough for him to grab from his spot on the floor without being too apparent while also making sure you couldn't see it from where you'd be seated.
Once he felt it was in the perfectly calculated spot, he went to the garage to grab the champagne he had put in the back seat of his truck. Walking back into the house, he put the champagne on the kitchen counter along with two champagne glasses. He wasn't worried about you seeing them as he’s always the first awake and will usually bring you your coffee.
Once all of that was finished, he double-checked everything, sent a quick ring and thumbs-up emoji to the dagger squad to indicate he was ready to go seeing as they all knew what he was planning, and then headed off to bed.
--
As you slowly woke up, you went to cuddle into your boyfriend only to find his side of the bed empty before you could question where he might be, you heard Christmas music gently playing from down the hall and your nostrils were met with the sweet smell of coffee which was enough for you to slide out of bed and make your way to where you could assume Jake was.
When you reached the living room, you stopped and smiled at your tree admiring it. Before you could turn and head toward the kitchen, Jake was already walking out holding two mugs
“Good morning my beautiful girlfriend,” he said as he walked over to you passing you your Christmas mug and kissing your cheek in the process causing your smile to grow in size. “Merry Christmas,” I told him as we smiled at each other “Merry Christmas babe,” he replied.
Together you and Jake made your way to where you liked to sit on the floor to exchange gifts. Once you had drank more of your coffee and felt more awake, you started exchanging gifts. You took turns opening gifts from each other and opening the presents your parents had mailed over seeing as you wouldn’t be going home this year.
Once it got down to the last gift for each of you, Jake started to feel the nerves peek through. He hoped you couldn’t see the slight shake in his hands as he opened his last gift and as you opened yours.
I smiled at the new leather-bound journal Jake had gifted me, knowing how important journaling was to me “Jake, I love it. Thank you” I tell him after putting it off to the side. I leaned in to kiss him on the lips before pulling away and started to get up
“Wait, there's one more” Jake said which confused me but regardless I stopped myself from getting up anymore and sat back down. Jake reached around the couch and when he felt the box, he picked it up and passed it to you “Merry Christmas” he said smiling.
I felt my heart start to race as I saw the small box. There was no way it was what I thought it was. I carefully took the box from Jake and slowly started taking the wrapping off. Once all the wrapping was off, your breath got uneven as a dark red velvet box sat in your hands, you were afraid to open it in case it wasn't what you thought it was.
Slowly I opened the box and to my surprise, a beautiful diamond ring sat there. My hand went to my mouth, feeling the tears already threatening to fall. As I looked up I was met with Jake on one knee.
He gently took the ring from my hands ``Babe, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me and I know it's cliche to say that but it's the truth. Before I met you, never once did all of this ever cross my mind” He said as he referred to what the two of you had “When I saw you at the Hard Deck that night we met, I knew you were the one for me and every day I spend next to you I am even more assured of that. I want to spend the rest of my life with you by my side, I want to be the one coming home to you, I want to be the one holding you when you’re sad and the one making you laugh, I want to do everything from marriage to having kids to retiring with you” He continued.
At this point, I couldn't hold back the tears and just listen to everything Jake was saying,
“You're it for me which is why I want to ask if you’ll do me the honors of becoming my wife and the person I get to call my forever” he finished, his own eyes glossing over. The second he was finished talking, I nodded my head not trusting my voice.
He smiled and carefully took the ring, sliding it on my finger. I sat up and grabbed his cheeks, kissing him and letting the kiss tell him everything I was feeling at this moment. “Jake I love you and you are already my forever,” I told him slightly pulling away as we both had tears on our cheeks.
Jake just smiled and leaned in again. The holidays hold a lot of memories for us and this is just a new one added to the list.
New Year's Eve The Following Year
“If everyone could please join me in welcoming Mr. and Mrs. Seresin,” our MC told our friends and family, everyone clapping as Jake and I excitedly walked into our wedding reception.
Jake twirled me around when we reached the dance floor, causing a laugh to fall from my mouth. The music changed from the upbeat song for our entrance to our first dance song.
Jake pulled me into his chest, his one hand joining mine and the other found a place on my lower back while my free hand went to his shoulder as we slowly swayed. I couldn’t believe this was happening. I lifted my head off his shoulder and looked into his eyes, smiling as he looked back at me
“I love you. Forever and always” I told him softly making sure he was the only one that heard. “I love you just as much. Forever and always” he told me in return while leaning down to kiss me as we continued to share our first dance as a married couple.
----
This is probably my favorite part of this series, writing the proposal was honestly just a projection of how I want to be proposed to but also Jake's dialogue, my hopeless romantic heart had a field day with it!!
I hope everyone who reads this enjoys this as much as I enjoyed writing it.
ALSO, THERE'S ONLY ONE PART LEFT! can't wait to share that one with this page!

THE MYTHIC BITCHES
Season 1, Episode 1: Girls Night Out
Cast: Sadie “Siren” Matthews, Bailey “Muse” Thompson, Phoenix, Rooster, Hangman, Bob
Summary: The Girls head out for a night of drinking and fun. Muse was finally stateside just in time to start a new class so commence the celebrations. The Mythic Bitches got their name affectionately from Payback’s side comment on their call signs, “They’re mythical. Like a girl group called The Mythic Bitches or something. They can’t be real.” Your call signs were all mythological creatures so it happened. They were the top of the Top Gun barrel and everyone knew it. The power they had was biblical.
Warnings: drinking, mention of forgotten sex, waking up naked

Muse fixed her red lipstick without looking in the mirror or her reflection in the glass. She knew what it felt like when the red pigment decided to make a mad escape out of the confines of her lip liner. She was sitting at a table with Phoenix and Siren, her very best friends. It was a surprising trio considering your line of work and the fact that you were extremely competitive women. But instead of sizing each other up constantly you worked as a team and climbed the leader boards to top every exercise, training and certification. That’s why you were coined The Mythic Bitches by Payback. Not only were your skills legendary but all of your call signs originated from mythological creatures. It also didn’t hurt that you were all extremely easy on the eyes. “You should never get lip injections.” Siren commented as she watched Muse make pouty lips after fixing her lipstick. “They’re so big and soft I could even kiss them!” Muse rolled her eyes at her friend but had to agree. Just then you saw Bob walking past looking like he was on a mission.
“Looks like you ladies need a refill.” Siren’s stomach filled with butterflies as they erupted at an alarming rate to the sound of Bob’s voice. She tried her best to keep her face collected but found it harder by the second.
“As long as you’re buying” Phoenix told him matter of factly giving Siren time to recover. She was fighting off the flush feeling she received in her cheeks.
“A gentleman always does.” Hangman replied slyly.
“Let me know when you see one” Muse quipped back as she accepted her refreshed drink from no other than Bradley who chuckled at her snap towards Jake. He set down the glass filled with vodka and cranberry juice. He knew Bailey always drank that. It was a go to move for her. “Thanks.” Muse lets her eyes linger on Roosters for just a moment. “What trouble can we expect you guys to get into tonight?” Bob wondered. Siren glanced up at him from her seat on the stool. Her eyes were wide with wonder just watching him go about socializing. She had the biggest crush on him. He was evidently clueless to Sadie’s feelings. You’d think with how observant he had to be during his day job that he would notice the painfully obvious pining. Everyone else did. Phoenix was always encouraging Siren to make a move but she could barely remember her name around him.
“Come on Phoenix give me a kiss.” Jake teased as he stood over her. She gave him the finger before losing the scowl on her face and kissing him softly. “I’ve been waiting for that all day.” He admitted against her lips.
“Boo!” Muse called out holding up a thumbs down.
“You guys are gross!” Rooster exclaimed causing Bailey to giggle.
“You know this was supposed to be a girls night until you crashed!” Siren explained. Bailey held her hand out to silence her.
“They’re paying Sadie.” She stated in a hushed tone as reminder to her friend. Bradley caught her words and looked down at the top of his unfinished drink with a smirk. Bailey always loved that they finally got together because he was the sunshine to her grey clouds. Natasha was fun and wild but most of the time she was the grumpy girlfriend. Jake spent his whole day trying to make hers brighter. He loved her so much and she loved him. It was obvious with the way he got her to melt every time he looked at her.
“It’s good to see you.” Bradley’s deep tones crossed Bailey’s ear drum. She smiled soflty feeling that floating feeling begin to fill her body. Why must her hormones make her so attracted to this man. He was nothing but trouble and if she said anything she was afraid of ruining her friendship shared between them.
“Yeah, sorry I didn’t tell you. I just got in so late last night and I didn’t feel like telling the world I was state side just yet.” Muse explained twirling the straw in her glass.
“I get it. It’s a nice surprise either way.” Rooster was giving the look she recognized. He gave that to all the girls who ended up rushing out of his room in the morning. Bailey would know she caught several of them in the act of escaping with heels in hand.
“Don’t give me that look Bradshaw.” Muse warned. Siren laughed as heard her shut him down. She had heard Penny use the same line when Maverick came back into town. It would never stand. A fresh round of shots landed in the middle of the table.
“You all are horrible influences!” Muse groaned downing the clear liquid. Phoenix laughed and wiggled her eyebrows.
“It’s your homecoming you really think we’d take it easy?” She asked before kissed the back of Hangman’s hand. The hours blended together and before any of you knew it Siren was on the verge of passing out. “Alright, alright we’re done.” Phoenix called it.
Phoenix broke off from the group and went home with Jake. That left Muse and Siren to travel in the back of Bradley’s bronco. The street lights blurred as they made the very short drive to the house occupied by two thirds of the infamous trio. Rooster helped Bailey out of the truck. Bob was practically carrying Siren over his shoulder. This was the same routine. This group was as thick as thieves and party animals. The clock read midnight when Bailey glanced at it as she hit the sheets. Tomorrow began a new set of courses for her to partake in. Siren and a Phoenix were in it too.
The panic Muse felt when she was woken that morning by her alarm was worse than knowing a S.A.M. had fired on her. She popped up with such force she shook the bed. “Fuck!” She cursed looking at the mess her room was now in. She looked to the right to see a groggy Bradley lying face down. That’s when Muse found herself looking down at her naked skin. Her eyes went wide with the realization she just had a one night stand with Rooster. “Rooster get up. I’ve gotta go I’m gonna be late.” She rushed out of her mouth zooming around the room getting herself together. She had to sneak him out before Siren could see what she had done. “I’m coming, I’m coming.” He groaned. He wasn’t moving fast enough for Muse. She threw his clothes on top of his naked torso and went to brush her teeth.
Meanwhile Siren was in the kitchen eating a quick breakfast. She had an amazing night and woke up without any trace of a hangover whatsoever. It was one of the many talents she possessed. It was also one of the most hated talents she had but that was because everyone was jealous. “Let’s go Thompson!” Siren called out receiving grumblings in return. “Give me a minute! Hey can you go to the garage and see if I left my gloves in there?” She asked. Sadie groaned but obliged her friend and went to the garage. Her ears perked up when she heard the hurried whispering a of her friend and the sound of footsteps. The sound of a car engine starting made Sadie realize her friend just had a one night stand. Now while she was pretty far gone last night she knows that Bob tucked her into bed which left Bradley the odd one out.
“Guess who was sneaking out of the house this morning!” Siren exclaimed when she sat down next to Phoenix. “Who!?” She just about screamed. Muse was hiding behind her hands listening to her friends gossip next to her.
“Attention on deck!”
Everyone stood and was instantly quiet.
“You may be seated. Good morning aviators! Welcome to advanced dogfighting maneuvers. This course is to better prepare for the next level of assignments you will be chosen for. This class is for the best of the best. Each one of you deserves to be here but each one of you has to earn to stay here. I’d like to introduce you to your instructor. He has countless hours and real world combat experience with what we will be teaching you.” Muse looked down hearing boots on the ground trying to chess who it was. When Bailey’s attention appeared back up front she was in horror. There he stood. Fresh off of coming inside you, Bradley Bradshaw.
“Good morning aviators!”
