An Innocent Game | Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Reader
Tumblr media
Request: requested by @kati-1997. Asked for best friends to lovers, everybody sees that they like each other but he admits it after someone flirts with the reader, the crew and Penny bet that they get together.
Word Count: 5949 words
Summary: Jake and the reader are best friends, however, the Dagger Squad and Penny can see they both want to be more than that. What started off as a bet of when the two will get together turns into a different game that leads to trouble.
Warnings: Tooth rotting fluff, angst, cursing (I think, I can't remember for sure, kissing.
It started as a game. An innocent little game for the entire Dagger Squad to play, minus Maverick who was trying to be the responsible one out of the group. But honestly, the oldest member couldn’t blame the group for what they started. They had to do something to deal with Fightertown's most clueless couple.
What started as placing bets for when the two of you finally got together turned into a drinking game.
Take a drink when one of you calls the other a nickname or says something flirty.
Take two drinks if one of you kisses the other on the cheek, forehead, or head.
Take a shot when Hangman tries to show you how to properly play pool.
Take two shots if you hold hands.
Finish your drink if you guys end up dancing together.
Needless to say, the members of the Dagger Squad are more on track for liver failure rather than winning any money.
“I’m never playing that game ever again,” Rooster groaned out to the group the next morning, slumped down in his chair with his aviators placed over his closed eyes.
“Yeah, right. We all know we’ll be doing the same thing when we go out again,” Phoenix argued with him, her state being the same, except she’s leaned forward in her seat, head down and buried in her arms.
“I’ve never drunk so much in my entire life,” Bob groaned out from next to her, sunglasses placed on his nose instead of his usual spectacles for seeing properly.
“I think I’m still drunk,” Fanboy stated, Payback humming in agreement from his seat next to him.
“I’m honestly surprised Penny served us as much as she did last night,” Coyote spoke up.
“It’s because Penny understands the pain we are going through right now with watching the two of them together. I’m starting to seriously think we need to step in and do something about it. I don’t know if my liver can take another night like this,” Rooster told the group.
“What do you expect us to do, Rooster? It’s not like we can just come out and say-,” Coyote was cut off by Pheonix shushing him at the sound of whistling.
Jake Hangman Seresin immediately stopped in his tracks when he took in the sight of his fellow aviators. He couldn’t help but laugh at the hungover group as he slowly walked further into the room, grinning around his toothpick.
“Well, it looks like some people had a fun night,” He said with a chuckle, taking his usual seat at the front of the room.
“Yeah, no thanks to you,” Fanboy muttered, causing Payback to send an elbow into his side.
Hangman showed no sign of hearing his muttered phrase and pulled his phone out to reply to a text sent by you.
Darling: Phoenix hasn’t replied to me this morning. Should I be worried?
His smile widened across his face as he replied to you.
Cowboy: Don’t you worry, darling. It looks to me like she and the rest of the group had a long night last night.
Jake discreetly took a picture of the group sitting behind him with their glasses on and sent it to you. Jake then locked his phone back up and placed it into his pocket before turning to look back at everybody.
“Are any of you going to be up to standards today,” He asked curiously.
“We’ll be fine Hangman, don’t you worry about us,” Coyote told his best friend.
“I just hope Maverick won’t be too hard on us today. I think I might puke if we do any crazy maneuvers,” Bob groaned.
“That’s the price to pay for underage drinking Baby on Board,” Jake said smugly from the front of the room.
“You’re such an ass,” Bob whispered, and everybody was too hungover to comment on the unexpected cursing from the WSO.
Everybody remained silent as they heard the door to their room swing open. Maverick quietly stepped into the room and slowly walked to the front, taking in the state of his team. He shook his head in amusement and cursed his girlfriend for serving them as much as she did. He dropped his clipboard on the podium in the front with a bang, causing all of the aviators, minus the cause of the problem, to let out groans of pain.
“Please never do that again,” Rooster groaned out to his godfather.
“Good morning to you too,” Maverick said with amusement in his voice. “Judging by the look of everybody in this room, practicing flight maneuvers is out of the question and is going to have to be moved to a different day.”
A resounding groaned cheer of numerous “thank gods” and “yes, pleases” rang out from the group, causing Hangman to scoff at the group and shake his head.
“That being said, you guys still aren’t off the hook. I want you all down at the beach behind the Hard Deck and ready for dogfight football within the hour,” Maverick ordered the group, causing them to still groan out in disagreement.
“I’d honestly much rather fly a plane than constantly be tackled to the ground,” Rooster argued.
“That’s the point. I don’t want to hear complaints from the maintenance team about having to hose vomit out from your cockpits, but I can’t let you all off the hook. You’re punishment for drinking so much the night before work is dogfight football. See you all in an hour,” Maverick smirked, leaving the room and the aviators to pull themselves from their seats.
-----
“They look like they’re struggling more than usual,” I commented about the sluggish group of aviators on the beach in front of me.
Penny hummed in acknowledgment and amusement before speaking. “All of them but your best friend.”
I followed her gaze to said aviator and blushed when I saw him, tanned skin glistening in the sun, muscles on show for anyone and everyone to see. I sighed wistfully at him as I continued admiring him, knowing full well Penny was also doing so with Maverick.
“They’re all hungover,” Penny reminded me with a smirk, going back to her work sitting in front of her.
“How are they so hungover? Did they keep drinking after Jake gave me a ride home,” I questioned her in disbelief.
“No, they stopped drinking when you left. You just didn’t realize how much they were drinking while you were here,” She explained. “Probably because you were so focused on a certain Lieutenant Seresin.”
I removed my gaze from the group and glared over at her. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Mhm, sure. Keep telling yourself that,” Penny nodded at me in amusement.
I rolled my eyes at her and looked back at the group to watch Jake do a double take towards our table. I grinned at him and raised my hand in a wave, seeing a wide grin also take over his face and wave back. After his actions, I watched as all of the aviators slowly looked over and had mixed reactions to my presence. Some groaned in what looked like exhaustion while some waved at me with a small smile.
“How long have they been at this,” I questioned Penny curiously.
“A little over an hour. Pete said it was punishment for getting so drunk when they knew they had work the next morning,” Penny told me with a proud grin at the thought of her boyfriend.
“He would punish them for having fun,” I poked at her, causing her to frown at me and kick me under the table. “I was joking. So, what do you think, maybe a little hair of the dog will help them get through it?”
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea,” Penny argued with me, seeming to know something I don’t know.
“It’ll be fine, Pen,” I argued with her, pulling the back door of the Hard Deck open and making my way to behind the bar.
I began gathering beers together and placing them on top of the bar. I looked around across the bartop to see no bottle opener in sight. I sighed in frustration and began moving jars of garnishes to the side to locate the opener. When unsuccessful, I groaned and squatted down to locate the opener on one of the shelves underneath the bar and let out a small cheer when I saw one behind a glass jar. I pulled the jar out and reached for the opener, placing it up on the bartop. I went to place the jar back when I noticed a heart drawn on it. I furrowed my brows and held it farther away from my face to properly examine it.
I opened the container and looked inside to see rolls of cash shoved inside of it.
“What the hell,” I murmured to myself in confusion.
I gripped the jar in my hand and walked towards the back door of the bar, pushing it open with my hip and walking towards the bartender.
“Penny, what the hell is a jar with a heart drawn on it stuffed full of cash doing underneath your bar,” I questioned her in confusion.
I could see the woman freeze briefly and some color drain from her face before she looked up at me wide-eyed. I stared at her expectantly and placed the jar on the table in front of her, watching her glance between the jar and myself a few times before speaking.
“It’s…,” She trailed off, causing me to raise my brows at her. “It’s some money I’ve been saving up for a trip for Pete and me. I’ve been hiding it underneath the bar so he doesn’t see it.”
“Oh, that’s so sweet. Well, I would love to contribute some, if that’s okay,” I started reaching for my purse, causing her to stop me and grab the jar from the table.
“No, that’s okay. That’s not necessary at all,” She shrugged.
“Are you sure,” I questioned her again.
“Positive,” She nodded at me tightly before looking back at the door. “Weren’t you getting drinks for everybody?”
My eyes widened at the reminder and walked back inside to grab the beers I had planned on acquiring previously. After opening all of them I gripped them in my arms and hands and began walking them out to the beach where the aviators continued their game.
“I heard that some of you could use a bit of help in your day,” I called out, gaining their attention.
I heard some sighs of relief and resounding “thank yous” as they all made their way towards me and began taking the beers off of my hands. Jake was the last one to greet me and the grin on his face caused mine to widen as well. He took the beer from my outstretched hand before gripping it and pulling me towards him.
“Thank you, darling,” he told me, leaning down to place a kiss on the top of my head.
“You’re welcome, hotshot,” I grinned at him.
I watched out of the corner of my eye as the rest of the group all shared looks before taking four long drinks of their beer in unison.
“Don’t overdo it again guys,” Maverick scolded them, taking a drink of his beer as well before sighing. “We can be done for the day. Get some rest and be ready for work on Monday.”
“Yes, sir,” Rang out around me as everybody sighed in relief at being done for the day.
I giggled at all of them in amusement as I moved closer to Jake and wrapped my arms around his waist. “How are all of you so hungover? Penny told me you stopped drinking after we left last night.”
Everybody stayed quiet at my question and continued drinking their beer, causing me to shrug and hug myself closer to Jake.
“Honey, I’m all sweaty and sandy, I’m sure you don’t want to be touching me right now,” Jake informed me with a grin, taking his sunglasses off and placing them on my face so I was no longer squinting up at him.
“I’m fine,” I reassured him, pressing my face into his chest and admiring his green eyes shining in the sunlight.
Everyone groaned simultaneously and took another long gulp of beer, causing me to squint at them in confusion.
“Is there something we’re missing here,” I questioned all of them curiously.
“Nope,” They all denied in unison.
“Uh-huh,” I nodded at them before looking back up at Jake. “Well, it’s Friday night, what are we doing tonight? Drinks at the Hard Deck again?”
“Sounds good to me. What about you guys,” Jake nodded at me before looking back at the rest of the Dagger Squad.
“Sounds great,” Rooster said after a moment of silence, everybody else hesitantly nodding in unison.
“Awesome. Well, I’m going to head home and get changed, let’s meet back here in an hour to an hour and a half,” I questioned the group, removing myself from Jake’s side and handing his sunglasses back to him.
Everybody nodded as Jake placed another kiss on my head. “Sounds good, darling. I’ll pick you up on my way again.”
I nodded at him in acknowledgment before beginning my trek off of the beach.
---------
“Here, darlin’, you’re holding it wrong, let me help you out,” Jake murmured in my ear, placing his hands over my own and leaning over me.
“I think I know how to do it properly after the many times you’ve shown me before, cowboy,” I giggled out to him, lifting my head to look into his bright green eyes.
“Well, it never hurts to have a refresher,” He replies to me, causing me to nod sheepishly and look back at the task at hand.
“Shots, everybody,” Rooster called out, causing everybody to nod at him reluctantly.
I looked up from the pool table to nod at him as well. “I’ll take one, Roo. Can you also get me another (Y/D)?”
“Sure,” He nodded at me with a tight smile before turning and going to the bar.
Jake led me in my shot once again before we both stood from the table and watched the balls move around. Once my turn was over the next person went and I handed my pool stick to the next person. Jake leaned down towards my ear and told me he was going to help Rooster with the drinks before placing a kiss on my temple. I nodded at him with a bright grin and moved to sit at one of the high-top tables surrounding the pool table. As I sat observing the game in front of me, a very drunk Phoenix came and placed her head on my shoulder, causing me to giggle at her in amusement.
“Can I help you,” I questioned her.
“I’m so drunk,” She informed me, staring at the pool table with a blank expression.
“We’ve only been here two hours,” I said in disbelief. She remained silent and only shrugged in response. “Stop drinking then.”
“I can’t. I would lose the game if I did that, and I can’t lose. I already lost my money, I can’t lose this too. This is your fault by the way,” She groaned out to me, causing me to furrow my brows in confusion.
“What the hell are you talking about,” I questioned her.
Coyote stepped forward at that moment and placed his hands on the female aviator's shoulders, moving her away from me and towards her WSO Bob.
“Ignore Phoenix. She’s just had a little too much to drink. You know how she can be sometimes,” Coyote told me, placing his hand on my shoulder
“Uh…,” I trailed off, looking past him at my female friend with confusion still written across my face.
“Here you go, (Y/N),” Rooster said, gaining my attention.
I looked over at him to see him holding my drink up to me with a grin. I smiled at him thankfully and accepted my drink before looking behind him.
“Where’s Jake?”
“Bringing the rest of the shots,” He told me before downing a couple of gulps of his beer in his hand.
I nodded in understanding before looking back at the pool table in front of me. After a few seconds of waiting for Jake, (Y/F/S) began playing from the jukebox, causing my grin to widen and begin searching for the green-eyed aviator and finding him making his way towards me with a smug grin. I smiled at him brightly and downed my shot before standing from my seat.
“You wanna dance,” Jake questioned me smugly, holding his hand out.
My smile widened and I shook my head at him in disbelief. “You do this every time we come here.”
“Nothing wrong with having a routine,” He shrugged at me before gripping my hand tightly and pulling me over to the jukebox.
I couldn’t help but laugh as he began twirling me around in the jukebox lights before pulling me closer to him. I placed my head on his chest as his hands moved to my waist. The two of us swayed comfortably back and forth for the duration of the song, occasionally catching the gazes of the rest of the Dagger Squad who were looking over at us periodically.
“I feel like something is going on with our friends that they’re not telling us,” I murmured to Jake, questioning if he heard me or not.
“What do you mean,” Jake questioned me curiously.
“They’re acting weird,” I pointed out.
“Because the way they normally act is considered normal,” Jake said in amusement, shaking his head at me.
“To me it is,” I said shyly, looking up at him.
Jake shook his head at me again with a grin before speaking. “Alright, what are they doing that has you so concerned?”
I looked up at him in disbelief this time and scoffed. “You’re telling me you seriously can’t see it? The occasional groans when the two of us do anything, the hesitation in agreeing to come out with us tonight, the heavy drinking in our presence, Phoenix telling me that her being drunk is my fault.”
Jake stood and thought before saying his piece. “I think our friends are just weird and annoying.”
I scoffed at him and grinned before shaking my head. “Sure, Seresin. Let’s go with that.”
“Look, I don’t think you have anything to worry about. I think it might just be me, okay? They have to spend all day with me at work and then the evening with me when we hang out. Being around the same people so much can cause some annoyance,” Jake tried to reassure me.
I sighed and shook my head before reluctantly agreeing. “Okay, I guess you’re right.”
“I know I’m right. I’m always right,” He grinned down at me.
“That is not true,” I giggled at him before he twirled and dipped me.
(Y/F/S) came to an end and the two of us began making our way back towards the group. I walked to the table that I left my drink on and frowned when I saw my glass empty. I looked around the group to see a guilty-looking Phoenix avoiding eye contact. I laughed in amusement and shook my head at her before looking up at Jake.
“I’m going to get another drink. It looks like a drunk Phoenix beat me to this one,” I informed him, gesturing between the female aviator and my cup.
Jake laughed as well and looked back down at me. “I can get you another one, darling.”
“No, it’s fine. I’m a big girl, I can handle it,” I reassured him, grabbing my glass to take to the bar for Penny.
Jake threw his hands up in surrender and smirked at me as I rolled my eyes, reaching forward and gripping one of his hands to pull it back down to his side. Jake smiled at me in amusement and squeezed my hand briefly before letting it go, gently pushing me towards the bar. I looked back at him with a small smile before trekking over to Penny.
“Another one,” Penny questioned me in shock, looking at my empty glass.
“Yeah, I’m afraid Phoenix beat me to this one,” I said with a gentle laugh.
Penny shook her head before turning to make my drink. I chuckled in amusement and looked back at the group of aviators at the pool table. Jake looked up from his turn at the table to make eye contact with me. He winked at me before making his move, causing me to roll my eyes and move to turn back to the bar. However, I paused in my turn when I noticed a certain spectacled WSO making his way towards me at the bar.
“Hey, Bob. You doing okay,” I questioned him in concern.
Bob nodded at me with a bright grin, slightly swaying in his spot where he stopped next to me. “Yeah, I’m great.”
I nodded in agreement with him before looking over at Penny. “Hey, Pen? Water for the WSO, please.”
Penny nodded at me as Bob began to shake his head. “No, no. I don’t need any water. I’m fine.”
I nodded at his slurred words and laughed a little bit. “Bob, you’re a lightweight on your best day, I think some water would do you some good,” I told him, placing my hand on his shoulder.
Bob drunkenly stared up at me in a haze before he sighed and nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. You’re totally right. (Y/N), you’re the best. You just care about all of us so much,” He told me, taking my hand on his shoulder in his own and moving it onto the bartop.
“Well somebody has to, Bob, when none of your family is here,” I argued with him, laughing again when he gently laid his head on my shoulder.
“You’re right, again. You're always right, and you’re so smart,” He said softly, nodding his head on my shoulder and causing his glasses to go lopsided from the action.
Penny walked over to the two of us and set my drink and the water on the bartop, causing me to give her a thankful look. I released my hand from Bob’s grip and began pushing the water toward his now free hand.
“Thank you,” He murmured, lifting his head and placing a kiss on my cheek.
I lightly blushed at his actions and shook my head at him. “Don’t thank me until tomorrow morning when your hangover isn’t as bad as it could be.
Bob gave a small giggle and nodded at me in agreement before he began chugging the water. I nodded at him in encouragement and rubbed his shoulder.
--------
Jake watched his best friend walk away from him after gently nudging her in the direction of the bar. His smile was bright until his best friend Javy gained his attention.
“Hey, Hangman, you wanna join?”
Jake broke his gaze from the (Y/H/C) after he was sure she made it to the bar safely. “Yeah, sure.”
Coyote handed him a pool stick as Rooster and Payback racked the balls. He took continuous glances at his friend as he waited his turn, telling himself that he was just making sure she was safe.
“Hey, Hangman, how about you stop staring at your girlfriend and you pay attention to the game,” Natasha slurred from her spot next to Rooster.
Rooster nudged the female and gave her a small glare at her words, causing her to look up at him and shrug innocently.
“It’s not like that,” Jake argued with her.
“Oh, please. Do you honestly think we’re all stupid enough to believe that? There’s a reason we’re the best of the best,” Natasha argued back, rolling her eyes at him.
“I think that only applies to flying,” Fanboy spoke up while Coyote began scolding the woman.
“Natasha, knock it off,” Coyote said to her sternly, leaning back up from the pool table after taking his turn.
“Why? I’m just stating the obvious. You said it yourself, Jake’s in love with (Y/N) and she’s in love with him and neither of them wants to admit it,” She slurred out with a shrug.
“That’s not what’s going on. I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Jake argued with her again.
“Mhm, yeah sure. You’re delusional then,” Phoenix finished off before shrugging and moving to sit with Fanboy at his table.
Jake continued to stare at the woman in deep thought until Coyote placed his hand on his shoulder and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
“Hey, man, just ignore her. You know how she can be. She’s just busting your balls,” Coyote told him.
“Yeah, no, yeah, I know. It’s just… Phoenix being Phoenix,” Jake agreed with him quietly before looking back at the game at hand.
“But on a brighter note, you gotta admit that (Y/N) is looking pretty damn good tonight,” Coyote commented, causing Jake to follow his gaze and a mesmerized smile to take over his face.
“Yeah, she does,” He breathed out, taking in the woman across the room.
Coyote looked between the two people and shook his head in amusement before landing a smack to his chest. “Your turn.”
Jake nodded at him and turned towards the pool table to take his turn. He looked up from where he was leaning over to take his turn to check on his best friend again. A smile overcame his face at the sight of her already looking over at him. Jake couldn’t help but send her a wink before making his move, causing her to roll her eyes in amusement and turn back to the bar. Jake stood back up from his position and watched the next person take their turn until Fanboy spoke up from where he was sitting with Phoenix.
“Where’d Bob go?”
All he could see was red. He looked away from his best friend long enough to take another turn at 9-ball, and when he looked back up Phoenix’s nerdy WSO was putting drunken moves on (Y/N).
He watched as Bob grabbed your hand from his shoulder as you talked and gripped it in his own. He watched as the man placed his head on your shoulder and you laughed at something he said. However, the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he placed a kiss on your cheek. Jake had never asked Coyote to hold his beer and pool stick as fast as he did at that moment. The drunk aviator fumbled to hold the items and dropped the pool stick with a clang as Jake began to take quick strides across the Hard Deck towards the two individuals at the bar. His strides became even quicker at the site of his best friend rubbing Bob’s shoulder as he chugged a glass of water.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing Baby on Board,” Jake questioned the WSO darkly.
Jake watched you turn to him with a look of utter confusion at his tone out of the corner of his eye but refused to take his eyes off the man standing in front of him. Bob slowly lowered the glass of water back down to the bar and wiped his mouth before looking over at his fellow aviator.
“Just drinking some water,” Bob informed him with a bright grin before picking the cup back up.
“Jake,” you whispered to him, trying to gain his attention.
Jake didn't remove his eyes from Bob and straightened up, taking a step between the two of you. Your confusion was furthered when he made this move, looming over Bob with a threatening demeanor.
“Jake, what the hell are you doing,” You questioned him, placing your hand on his arm and pulling him away from the clueless aviator.
Jake still refused to look away from Bob, causing you to move around the side of him and step between the two. Jake finally removed his gaze from Bob long enough to look down at you. You raised your eyebrows at him in question and watched his face soften. You sighed in slight annoyance and shook your head at him before turning around to look at Bob.
--------
“Hey, Bobby, how about you take your water and go join everybody else again, yeah,” I questioned him sweetly, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“Okay,” Bob nodded at me with a smile, turning around and making his way back toward the group.
I watched and waited until he was greeting everybody else before turning back around and looking at Jake.
“What the hell was that,” I questioned him, looking up at him in shock and disbelief.
“What do you mean “what the hell was that?” Baby on Board was clearly making a move on you,” Jake defended looking at me in disbelief as well.
“That's not what was happening. He's drunk Jake. He doesn't know what he's doing,” I argued.
“So that's supposed to make it okay,” Jake threw at me.
“No-,” I started, only to be cut off.
“What do you have the hots for Bob or something,” he added.
“What? No,” I denied quickly, only having a second to shake off my disbelief at his words.
“So it would be completely fine if Rooster were to come over and do the same thing,” He questioned me quickly.
“Wha- Jake,” I scoffed out, shaking my head at him.
“Or Coyote, or Pheonix. Maybe even Payback or Fanboy,” he began listing off, causing my frustration with him to grow.
“Jake, seriously,” I slightly whimpered.
“So it's fine for anybody to just come on over and flirt with you and touch you,” Jake snapped back.
“That's not- this isn't-,” I stuttered out, my increasing frustration with the situation making it difficult to properly form a sentence.
“Then what is it, (Y/N)? Tell me what this is. Make this make sense for me,” Jake snapped out at me.
I glared up at him and felt tears beginning to brim in my eyes when I finally snapped “You tell me, Jake. You're the one who made it into something.”
Jake finally snapped his mouth shut and took a step back from me. He remained quiet but wouldn't remove his eyes from my own.
“What, you have nothing to say now? Because you had plenty a few seconds ago,” I scoffed.
Jake continued to remain silent, now avoiding eye contact. All I could bring myself to do was nod and reach over to grab my drink from the bartop.
“Okay, well… come find me when you finally come up with an excuse for acting like a jealous boyfriend,” I told him, beginning to walk away.
However, I stopped when I felt him place his hand on my elbow.
“What if it were me,” he asked me quietly, causing me to turn and face him with obvious confusion on my face.
“What?”
“What if it were me who was acting like that with you,” he repeated louder. I remained silent as I stared at him, and Jake spoke again at my silence. “What if I didn't just act like a jealous boyfriend and I was actually a jealous boyfriend? Or just a boyfriend in general?”
My confusion changed to shock at his question. I slowly moved back to my spot in front of him and placed my drink back on the bar. I looked down at his hand and watched as it slowly moved from my elbow and down my arm to intertwine with my hand.
“Then I would tell you there's no reason to be jealous because you're the only one I have eyes for,” I told him quietly, looking up from our hands to gaze into his eyes.
I could visibly see the tension turn into relief at my words. See his shoulders relax, his eyes soften slightly, his pinched lips release into a small smile. He opened his mouth like he wanted to say something in response, but quickly shut it instead.
“You can kiss me now,” I said to him in encouragement.
“Oh, thank god,” Jake said in relief before releasing my hand to cup my face in both of his, placing his lips on my own.
I released a breath of relief myself at the feeling of his lips against my own, the feeling of his hands holding my face delicately, almost as if he were afraid that I would break. My hands raised to wrap around his wrists, gently gripping them in my own and rubbing my thumbs against the delicate skin. It was a gentle kiss that turned into one filled with passion. He released my lips briefly before moving in for one more. And then one more turned into two… three… until the sound of cheering echoed across the bar, causing the two of us to pull away and look towards the sound. A bright grin broke out across my face at the sight of the rest of the Dagger Squad looking over at us and cheering as if their home team just won a championship game. I began laughing in amusement at the group before looking up at Jake, seeing him have the same reaction as me before looking back down at me.
“I’m sorry to tell you this Darling, but I don’t think you’re ever going to be able to get rid of me,” Jake informed me with a faux smile of apology.
“That’s alright. I think I just might want to keep you around for a little while,” I smirked up at him before wrapping my hand around his neck to pull him into another breathtaking kiss.
---------
Meanwhile, the Dagger Squad watched their two friends with smiles on their faces and relief in their bodies at the thought of no longer having to watch the two of them dance around each other.
“It’s about time,” Coyote said, resulting in everybody letting out different noises and statements of agreement.
“So, wanna bet on when they’ll get engaged,” Rooster questioned, causing everyone to start shouting out dates and timespans.
However, this lasted for a short time due to Phoenix speaking up from her spot next to a still-drunk Bob.
“Wait, who won the original bet,” She questioned.
The group all looked around at each other curiously before looking over at the Hard Deck owner who appeared at their side with her glass jar in her hand.
“Bob won,” She stated simply.
“What,” Was the resounding answer in disbelief.
She nodded at them in amusement before answering. “He won by two weeks. Predicted it would happen by (Y/N)’s birthday.”
The group looked over at a now passed-out Bob, his head slumped down on the table and Phoenix running her hand over his head gently.
“Did he technically cheat,” Fanboy questioned his friends, pointing over at Bob.
“There’s no way he was smart enough to do that when he’s that drunk. I think it was just a lucky break,” Payback argued with him, causing Rooster and Coyote to nod in agreement with the frontseater.
Penny made her way over to the WSO and gently shook him, causing him to raise his head from the table in a haze, looking over at the bartender in confusion.
“Congratulations, Lieutenant,” She smirked at him, leaving the jar in front of him before walking off back to the bar.
Bob looked down at the jar in confusion before looking at all of the aviators in front of him who were looking at him in disbelief.
“Did I win?”

When you were hired to work as a bartender for Penny Benjamin at her bar, you thought nothing of it. The Jake Seresin you knew, while an up-and-coming hotshot flyboy, would never make it to TOPGUN, not with his mouth and his inability to play well with others. Working in the bar would be safe, you were sure of it.
Until a year later when Jake walked through the door.
A shock of surprise blasted through you when you recognized his face across the room, heard the familiar sound of his voice. Like suddenly being doused in cold water, you shivered and felt your heartrate skyrocket.
There was nowhere to hide. As the only bartender on duty, you were obligated to stay behind the bar. You couldn’t run even as Jake crossed the room and headed directly to you.
Trying to quell the mounting panic in your chest, your skin suddenly unbearably itchy as sweat broke out beneath your armpits, you forced yourself to stay calm.
He stopped at the bar and leaned his forearms against it. “Two beers.”
He flashed a pearly white smile.
You felt as though you’d been punched in the stomach. Nodding jerkily, you faced away from him to find two beers and pop off their tops, your face burning.
He didn’t remember you.
You handed him the beers and wordlessly took the money he slapped down onto the countertop, everything within you screaming as you fought back the hot tears pushing insistently at the back of your eyes.
“Thank you, sweetheart,” he said, winking. “What’s your name?”
You quietly gave it to him. A faint crease rumpled his smooth brow.
“Don’t I—”
“Can I get two beers and a boilermaker?” another patron asked, raising their voice over Jake’s.
“Sure thing,” you answered with false cheer, scurrying away with relief to fetch the man’s drinks.
As Jake walked away to join his buddies, he glanced back over his shoulder as though to catch your eye, but you studiously avoided his gaze. Bitterness and pain flooded you as you kicked yourself for being stupid enough to think that working in a bar that catered to Navy pilots wouldn’t make you cross paths with him again.
Maybe, you realized, you had wanted to this happen. Maybe you had wanted the chance…
~~
When you first met Jake, he was fresh out of flight school and hadn’t earned his call sign yet. You hadn’t recognized that his confidence was arrogance and his ego was outsized even for an Navy pilot. You couldn’t see past the charm, his grin, and the mischievous green eyes.
You never expected Jake to even look at you. He seemed to like girls faster than the jets he flew, and you were decidedly not one of them. As you once half-heartedly joked with your mother, you were invisible, particularly to anyone who looked even half as handsome as Jake.
So when he approached you one night, teeth gleaming and eyes glittering in the soft lighting of the bar, cozied up to you, and invited you out to dinner, you could hardly believe your luck. You pinched yourself more than once through the night, so surreal it all felt.
He took you to a middle-grade Italian restaurant that was better than getting pizza and beer but not very extravagant. You didn’t mind, preferring the food to the heavier, richer foods of high-end restaurants. The conversation was stimulating, Jake’s charisma out in full force and the banter crisp and light-hearted. You had never quite so clicked with anyone as you did with Jake that night.
As the evening wound to a close, you were excited to see him again. Before you could say as much, he leaned in toward your ear and whispered, “Why don’t we get out of here?”
Your heart plummeted. Swallowing thickly, you pulled away and muttered, “I’m not…I don’t think so.”
He frowned. “Why not? I thought we were getting along great.”
“We were—are. But…not on a first date.”
He stared at you, the glimmer in his eyes fading. Shaking his head, he exhaled heavily. “You’re too slow for me, sweetheart.”
And he left you standing there, cheeks burning and your stomach roiling.
You hadn’t eaten Italian since.
~~
The night crawled. You exerted all of your energy trying to avoid looking in Jake’s direction or focusing on his voice as he crowed with his friends over winning shots at the dartboard or the pool table. You served drinks and faked smiles at everyone else that came up to the counter.
When the evening waned into the early morning hours, all that remained were Jake and his friends. You could hear the individual tick of the second hand of the clock over their laughter and raised voices, itching for it to be two a.m. so you could kick them out.
“Last call,” you finally yelled with relief.
Jake immediately sauntered over. You wanted to kick your own teeth out.
“Last round of beers for us,” he said, leaning against the counter.
Nodding, you counted heads and proceeded to collect the beer bottles.
“Don’t I know you?”
You froze, your heart thumping painfully in your chest. “No,” you answered. You popped open the first beer.
“Nah, I definitely know you”
You tried to pop off the caps faster, working furiously to hand them to him.
“Wait a minute…” He leaned forward, scrutinizing your face as you handed gave him the last of the beers.
“That’ll be thirty dollars.”
“You’re that girl. Italian dinner, no after party.”
Your cheeks burned. Ducking your head, you tapped the bar. “Thirty dollars.”
“Where’re the beers?” one of his friends called. “Hurry up, man!”
“How’ve you been?” Jake asked, frowning slightly as he dug around for his wallet.
“Why would you care?” you muttered, snatching the money from his hand. You scurried away from him to the opposite side of the room, hiding behind chores.
The group left before you had to kick them out at two. Relief made you slump into a chair with your head in your hands, your stomach slowly relaxing and releasing the knot it had been holding for hours. Somehow, Jake remembering you—or rather, how he had remembered you—was worse than him not recognizing you at first.
You took your time wiping down the tables and booths, stacking the chairs atop them so you could run a quick vacuum over the floor. The chores helped relax you, though bitter sadness lingered tartly in your mouth.
You locked up, debating how to tell Penny that you were quitting, and strode across the sand to the parking lot—where Jake and his friends had set up a stunt course with orange traffic cones, daring each other to do better as they screeched through the obstacle course. Cones went flying as each one clipped corners too hard or fumbled gear changes, the clutch grinding like a creature in the throws of pain.
You hesitated as you watched them, as you watched Jake laughing at his friends’ failures. Leaning against your car, you watched waited for his turn.
Climbing into the car, he revved the engine like he knew what he was doing and took off, burning rubber on the asphalt as he navigated the course. He clipped one cone, then two, before spinning out as a third snagged in the wheel-well.
Everyone laughed and talked shit as Jake climbed out of the car with a sheepish grin on his face. He shrugged it off and said, “Nobody can make this course, man.”
You pushed off your car, tossed your purse into it, and strode across the asphalt to Jake. He sobered as you approached, wariness diminishing the humor in his expression. You held out a hand for the keys.
“I wanna try,” you said.
A quiet ooooo rippled through the group.
“No offense,” he began.
You tore the keys from his hand.
“Uh, knock yourself out, I guess.”
“No way,” someone else said, shaking his head as you passed him to the car. “What’s a civilian gonna do? Total our car!”
You slipped into the driver’s seat and adjusted it before slamming the door shut, blocking out the naysaying crowd’s voices. Inhaling deeply, you glanced at the obstacle course, committing it to memory.
How’s this for fast? you thought savagely.
Kicking the car into gear, you shot forward into the opening of the track. With practiced hands, you shifted seamlessly through gears, the clutch almost purring with relief at not grinding. Coming up to the first pinched turn, you tore around it easily, the rear bumper of the car missing a cone by mere centimeters.
The thrill of the speed rushed through you, making the crowd and the circumstances drop away. You tore around the next turn, looked ahead to see that two scattered cones were a threat to your wheels.
Without hesitation, you slammed on the brakes, sending the car into a slide. Yanking the gear shift into reverse, you pivoted the car into another 180, sliding through both cones and whipping around to finish the last leg of the course.
You streaked through the other side, not a single cone touched in your wake.
Cheers thundered in the silence of the night as you killed the engine and exited the car.
“Un-fucking-believable!” someone shrieked. “Did you see that!?”
The only woman in the group was grinning, a “Niceeeee” hissing past her lips.
Jake trotted up to you. “That was—”
You tossed the keys at his chest. He had to scoop them off the asphalt as you strode across the parking lot to your car.
“Hey, wait a minute.” He hurried to your side. “I want to talk to you.”
“What for?”
He blinked. “I want to buy you a drink, catch up.”
You stopped abruptly, adrenaline still flooding your veins. You stared him directly, the first time you had been able to meet his eye all night. He took a step back under the force of your gaze.
“Why?”
“Because…you’re interesting.”
“I was always interesting, dipshit. You just didn’t stick around to find out,” you snarled.
You took off to your car, leaving him standing there. He tried to catch up, but you were too fast for him.

The Nanny (Hangman x Reader)
Tumblr media
authors note: so, hangman won by a long shot in the poll, but for the few that voted for the rest, they're still coming! i have to deal with the bs with my basement and i am a college student, so i have to deal with my coursework as well.
inspired by @roosterforme
this will be a mutli part series, im not sure how many parts though
pairing: jake "hangman" seresin x benjamin niece!reader; established mav x penny
warnings: some swear words and an inaccurate depiction of how social workers handle dropping a baby off to its living, absent father. also cyclone is a dad bc jon hamm if a dilf.
not proof or beta read, we die like men.
summary: Hangman wakes up one day to a social worker and an infant on his doorstep. the infant? his 3 month old daughter.
word count: 1.9k
-----------
It was the one day that the Dagger squad had a later morning (11am, per Maverick’s request), so when the pounding on Jake’s door woke him up at 8:45, he was a little pissed.
He stumbled out of bed and the arms of some red head whose name he definitely doesn’t remember, throwing on a shirt along the way to his front door where the pounding is originating from and reverberating through his skull. “I heard you the first fucking time,” he curses out, throwing the door open and preparing to unleash verbal hell on the person standing at his doorstep.
All the words die out though when he sees an older woman standing there with a sleeping baby in a car seat at her feet. “Jacob Seresin?” she asks and his eyes bounce between the infant and the woman.
“Yes?” he asks, voice cracking a bit as he looks back to the woman.
“Do you mind if I come in?” he nods and moves aside as she picks up the car seat and steps inside. “My name is Caroline Husband, I’m a social worker for the state of California.” she tells him as she sets the seat down on his coffee table, “and this is Avery. Your daughter.”
Jake feels his heart stop as he looks down at the little girl, “what, what do you mean?” he sinks down to the floor on his knees, heart racing and Caroline gives him a small smile.
“Her mother-” she looks down at the paperwork she was holding, “Samantha Barnes, passed away from complications shortly after birth, you were listed as father on the birth certificate.”
Samantha Barnes… Jake remembered her with a small smile. They were briefly exclusive before she had disappeared one night, leaving behind the memories and a note saying she needed to go back home to help with her ailing father, her last living relative that she still spoke to.
“H-how uh, how old is she?” he asks, taking her small, but definitely bigger than a newborn, hand in between his finger and thumb.
“She spent some time with a foster while the state was waiting for you to return stateside. She just turned 3 months old.” Caroline forms him, which makes sense as he was just in the middle of the ocean for the last five months. “I have some supplies in my car that her foster mom put together for you, should you choose to keep her.”
“Choose to?” he asks, as if there was any other option for him. The second he found out Avery was his, there was never any other option.
“You can alway sign your parental rights away, there’s plenty of families looking to adopt babies.” she says and he shakes his head.
“No, she stays with me,” Jake says as he stands and Caroline smiles up at him.
“Well then, there’s all the information that you need. Her old foster mom made a list of information for you, her pediatrician, what formula she was feeding, how to prepare bottles...” she goes on to tell him more necessary information about Avery but tunes her out as he watches the little girl start to wake up and look around, well, as much as a 3 month old can, he supposed. “Here’s my card, it has my personal cell phone number on the back should you not be able to reach me at my office in the event of an emergency.”
He takes it with a smile and a thank you before walking Caroline to the door to help her bring the items in from her car and as quickly as she was here, she was gone. Leaving Jake to sit on his couch as he stares into the eyes of his daughter.
He kicks out his guest after 15 minutes of sitting there before he’s googling how to put a car seat base securely into the back seat of a F-150. After fighting for what felt like an hour (only 10 minutes) he has his daughter secured in his car before driving way under the speed limit to The Hard Deck, only 45 minutes late to meeting up with the rest of the Daggers but as soon as they see him walk into the bar with a car seat, all the teasing for being late blows out of there mind.
“Do we need to call the police?” Bradley teases and Jake lets out a nervous laugh.
“No.. no police needed.” Jake says as he sets his daughter’s car seat and diaper bag in the middle of the pool table the team was surrounding.
“Well, then who is this?”
Jake takes a deep breath before answering, “this is my daughter, Avery Seresin.”
Immediately the team has plenty of questions for the team’s resident playboy. He explains the situation as best he can with the information he got from Caroline.
“I never even knew Sam was pregnant. She never said anything and then she was gone.” Jake says softly as he looks down as his daughter in his arms, sleepily drinking from the bottle he made and Penny gives him a smile.
“You seem like a natural already.” she says, snapping a photo of the daddy-daughter moment and he smiles.
“Yeah, I was still around when my sisters started having their own kids, all girls too, ironically.” he responds with a small laugh and the movement of his chest startled Avery awake and she starts drinking more steadily again.
The squad takes the rest of the day before the bar opens with turns holding the newest member of the team. Aside from Jake, Bob and Natasha were the only other two who seemed comfortable enough to hold her without needing any instruction on support for her head.
“Does Cyclone know you have a kid yet?” Mav asks as he takes his turn holding Avery, seasoned from when Bradley was a baby and he used to watch him while Carole and Goose needed alone time.
“Fuck, no not yet.” Jake groans as he rubs his hands over his face. “I need to go see him.”
“Go see him now, between Penny being a mom and me dealing with Bradley as a baby there’s plenty of experience here to watch Avery for a bit while you try to get some time to adjust to dad-life.” Mav says and Jake looks over at him.
“You’re serious?”
“Yeah, besides, Avery is already better at 3 months than Rooster ever was.” Mav teases and Bradley makes a couple of offended noises before being slapped in the chest by Natasha.
Jake nods, “okay well here’s her-”
“Hangman, get out of here. I did all this with Amelia.” Penny says as she pushes him towards the door and Jake pulls her into a hug.
“Thank you so much, Pen.” he says, meaning it too since Penny is the closest thing to a mom that he has since he hasn’t talked to his real mom in years.
The drive into base wasn’t a long one, but felt like it was with how often he was checking his backseat and not seeing his daughter before remembering she was safe with Penny and Maverick at the bar.
Walking into Admiral Simpson’s office, Jake broke out into a nervous sweat. “Um, excuse me, sir.” he says as he knocks on the open door.
Both Admiral Simpson and Admiral Bates looked up at him from where they were sitting at the desk discussing some news that they received from higher ups.
“Can I help you, Lieutenant?” Cyclone asks and Jake nods, taking that as an ‘okay’ to walk into the office.
“Yes actually, I uh.. I was wondering if I would be able to get leave, sir. I had a surprise visit from a social worker this morning and-and my infant daughter.” he says as he straightens out his back and rolls his shoulders back.
“You have a child?” Cyclone asks, closing the folder that he had open to focus more on Jake. “Since when?”
“Well, as of 9am this morning, sir. Her mother passed away after she was born and no other living relatives so… She’s currently with me. Well, not with me Captain Mitchell and Penny Benjamin are currently watching her.. sir.”
Warlock and Cyclone share a look and Jake stands there nervously, “I know that this is short notices but all I’m asking for is a week to figure things out, find a sitter, get some kind of a routine started for-”
“Okay.” Cyclone says and Jake looks at him instead of the spot that he had been looking at on the wall. “You only want just one week?”
“I can have more, sir?” Cyclone nods, having recently become a father himself and knows how important bonding is for parents.
“Unless something urgent comes, how does three weeks sound?” he asks as he pulls something up on his computer and begins to type.
“I would greatly appreciate that.” Jake says with a small smile and Cyclone nods, ending the conversation and Jake starts to walk out of the office.
“Seresin?” Warlock calls out and Jake turns around, “congratulations.”
“Thank you, sirs.”
Jake drives back to the bar already feeling lighter than he had in the last 6 hours, and upon walking back into the watering hole, he sees a red faced Avery and a panicked Rooster.
“Bradshaw what did you do to my daughter?”
“What did I do? She threw up on me!” he says, holding the infant safely, and at an arm's length away.
The rest of the team is laughing behind him and Jake just takes Avery and lays her against him so her head is on his shoulder, “well I’m sure you deserved it.”
Bradley glares at him before wandering away to the bathroom to clean up. Jake smiles and rubs his daughters back as she babbles in his ear.
“How did talking to the boss go?” Penny asks and Jake smiles.
“Really good, actually. Said I can have three weeks as long as nothing urgent comes up that’ll need the full team's attention.”
“Well, if you ever need a nanny so you can have a break and none of us are available, my niece just moved to the area and is looking for work.” Penny says with a small smile as Jake moves to sit next to her. “Plus she has a degree in early childhood and special education.”
“Okay, yeah I’ll let you know.” he says with a nod.
“Well, you can meet her tonight, she’s supposed to come and help me out here for the night since Jimmy can’t make it in.” Jake just nods and Penny pats his shoulder that Avery isn’t sleeping on while she stands to start opening duties for the bar.
Jake didn’t end up meeting Penny’s niece that night, or any time in the following week. In fact, it wasn’t until the last week of his leave that he met her.
Jake was holding Avery as he walked into the bar before it opened, she was babbling up a storm and he took his sunglasses off to put on the top of his head when he saw someone new behind the bar, head thrown back and laughing at something that Bob had said.
You look over at him and he swears his heart stopped, “Hi! I’m Y/N Benjamin, but you can call me Saturn.”

Too close to home - Tyler Owens Imagine
A/N: Alright babes, so here she is. Hope you guys like it. This is based off an actual tornado I experienced last year (Gotta love tornado alley).
Tumblr media
Spring. It was your favorite season and also your least favorite season at the same time. It was the time of year when they flowers started to bloom, it started to warm up, and everyone seemed happier. However, it was also the time of year when tornadoes were the most prevalent. Living in tornado alley meant you were well versed in the forces of nature. They were big. They were mean. They didn’t care what was in their way. Ever since you were a kid, they scared you. You knew the signs and you watched out for them when they came.
It was the dark clouds. It was the smell of rain in the air. It was the cool air and the warm breeze mixing together to bring a perfect mix of chaos. It absolutely terrified you; especially since you worked at a news station and saw what happened when you covered storm damage.
Now, your boyfriend, was a whole other story. You were dating the tornado wrangler himself, Tyler Owens, and the two of you could not be anymore different in your opinions on the monstrous forces of nature. He thought they were beautiful and wanted to chase after them. You thought they were horrible and wanted to stay far away. But, each and every spring you let him chase his passion as long as he promised to keep himself safe and always come back home. He promised and had yet to break it.
It was your two year anniversary and the two of you were cuddled up in bed watching a movie. There was a tornado warning in the area, but Tyler had been watching the tornado tracker on his phone and he felt like there was next to no chance that the ones on the ground would come anywhere near your shared home. Most nights, he would be out chasing the storm with his crew, but he had agreed to stay home with you tonight to spend time with you to celebrate your anniversary.
Your head was on his chest and his fingers were combing through your hair, both your eyes locked on the TV. Outside, the storm was starting to pick up. The thunder was starting to get louder and the rain was starting to pound on the window harder; hail starting to mix in with it. Your eyes widened at the sound, but Tyler didn’t seem to even blink twice, his hand moving down to soothe down your spine. Of course, leave it to the tornado chaser to not even blink at a severe storm. You wished you shared his bravery, but you definitely did not. As the storm started to progress he picked up his phone to check the weather and the tornado tracker, still seeing that there was nothing coming towards you guys and you were safe to not take shelter.
But, as you were sitting there you could start to hear a train in the distance sound like it was passing through and you felt confusion start to cloud your mind. You didn’t remember any train tracks near your house.. But, it definitely sounded like there was a freight train passing by. You looked at Tyler just as his phone rang, one of the guys he chased with calling him.
He pressed a kiss to your forehead and went to standup, answering the call. He pulled the blinds back and revealed a severely dark sky outside your window before he looked at you, eyes wide. The train was getting louder and louder. “Yeah. Ya’ll stay safe.” Just as he was going to hang up the phone, the entire house went dark as the power went out. In the dark and the silence of the house you could barely make him out walking swiftly towards you. He was normally calm about everything so the swift way he was moving made a sense of dread settle through your bones and into your stomach. You had never seen him like this and you had watched him race towards tornadoes hundreds of times by now without even seeming to be phased. But, whatever was happening right now had him rattled.
“We have to get to cover now.” That was all he said as he reached out for your hand, lacing your fingers together as he pulled you towards the back door of your shared home. You had never once heard him warn you to take shelter, so something really bad must be happening. The two of you made your way outside and everything was super dark. Rain was pelting down from the sky in massive drops as it mixed with hail. The wind was whipping around you and Tyler held your hand tight as the two of you made your way towards the door that was propped up outside of the ground. He started to open it, turning around to see a massive funnel cloud making its way right towards your house.
You felt your blood run cold as it started to descend down towards the ground and you heard him urging you to hurry, reaching out to grab your wrist. He was yelling something but you couldn’t hear him over the wind, you just could make out the sound of him yelling but the words were incomprehensible. You felt a tug on your wrist as he ushered you inside, standing to take in the beauty of the descending tornado as it tore down on your neighborhood quickly.
“Ty!” You yelled out for him as you made your way down the stairs, the chaos of everything making you feel more panicked than you already were. But, the look on his eyes said everything. The passion. The dedication. “She’s damn perfect.” You could tell he was either saying the words or mouthing them, but the wind was taking possession of his voice. You knew he was wishing he was chasing this storm. However, that would’ve meant you would be dealing with this alone. You had never been in a storm like this before and now you were about to be in the eye of a tornado.
He finally snapped out of his trance and made his way down into the cellar with you. He slammed the door shut behind him, locking it into place with the deadbolt as you turned on the flashlight on your phone.
Luckily when you had moved in you had stocked the storm shelter with some food and water and a bag of clothes for each of you if you guys would end up needing it. But, you hoped and prayed you wouldn’t. You turned on the lantern the two of you kept down there as you grabbed one of the few blankets you had down there and you tried to make yourself comfortable, hearing the wind howl outside through the door.
“C’mere.” The southern drawl was the first thing you heard your boyfriend say since the two of you had left the house. He had his arm out for you as he turned his phone on to the weather channel, pulling up the radar as the weatherman went on and on about the tornado that was now knocking on your front door.
Your heart was racing and you felt like you couldn’t breathe as you slid in close to his side, covering both of your laps with the blanket as you tried not to think about what could potentially be happening a couple of feet above you. Would it take the house? Would it take your trucks? The barn? You didn’t want to think about it and you hid your face in his arm as he slid a hand under your shirt, rubbing soft circles into your skin with his thumb. “Itll be alright, darlin’.” You knew it would be, but the anxiety was still running rampant through you as well as guilt for him staying home with you tonight.
“I’m sorry you’re here and not out there right now.” Your voice felt too quiet for the situation, but you let it stay like that. Ever since you had started dating, you had never made him miss a storm. You had always told him to go. Told him to just be safe and keep you updated. Every single time he did. But, tonight he had insisted and now it was eating at you.
You felt his eyes look down at you as he sat his phone down, now using his free hand to tilt your chin to look up at him. “I would rather be here with you. If I was chasing that storm, I would be trying to outrun it to get home to you,” He kept his eyes locked on yours as the words left his lips, the normally cocky smile he wore replaced by a small, genuine one. He started to stroke your cheek with his thumb, leaning down to capture your lips to seal the words in. “There will be other storms. But there’s only one you. I’m glad I was here to keep you safe.” The words were barely a whisper as he leaned his forehead against yours, a smile forming on your lips as you kissed him again.
There might be damage done by the storm and you would probably be cleaning up debris for a couple of months, if not longer. But, you had Tyler and he had you and both of you were safe. That was all that mattered as you cuddled up to him in the storm shelter and waited for the all clear, updates coming in from his guys as they chased the storm that came just a little too close to home this time.

The Gallows (Hangman x Fem!reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: They call you Angel, sometimes you wonder if “of death” was too long. When tasked to join the best of the best, you are forced to confront your past.
Warning’s: descriptions of injuries (reader is a medic), mentions of sexual content, semi-steamy?,cursing, mentions of sibling death, ptsd (the reader and Hangman both have shared trauma), alcohol consumption
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Call sign: Angel”
It sounded like a nails of a cat clinging to a chalkboard, slowly, painstakingly trailing down the black slate, dragging each syllable out like a taunt. An-gel.
The office felt stuffy, like one of those old silver-screen detective films your grandma would make you watch whenever you visited for Christmas, though there was nothing comforting or warm about it.
Vice Admiral Beau "Cyclone" Simpson is across from you, flipping through your entire naval career in a package of papers. “Quite an impressive portfolio you have here.”
“Admiral Kazansky vouched quite heavily for you. I don’t know if that should delight or terrify me.” he sighs, scanning through the pages without so much as looking up at you. “You’ll be working under the command of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, I’m sure you’ve heard about him.”
Slapping the folder down, Cyclone rises from his seat with the the sound of leather creasing and wheels rolling against the linoleum. “Follow me. I’ll take you to the debriefing room, maybe you’ll be good at keeping Maverick...grounded.”
Orientation never sat well with you. You stopped bothering to focus your vision on the pilots and WSO’s before you; To take in their faces or remember their names. It became a bad habit that morphed into second nature, instinctual to the very structure of your DNA. It was easier that way.
There was an eeriness to the echo of Maverick’s voice as it reverberated throughout the aircraft hangar, his eyes flickering to you for a moment.
“This mission will be physically demanding on your bodies and minds. That is why we have brought in Lt. y/n “Angel” y/l/n.  One of the best flight surgeons the navy has to offer.” It’s all so formal that it feels forced. Undeserved. Unwarranted.
The walk from the entrance of the hangar, to where Captain Mitchell stood was gruelling. You pictured yourself being ushered to the gallows, or maybe a pyre like a witch, either way, both of those situations seemed more appealing than this.
“Thank you.” you saluted back - It was muscle memory at this point, not respect. “It an honour to work with you Capt. Mitchell.”
“We’re down three of our best today to G-tolerance training. Don’t worry, you’ll get well acquainted soon enough.” he grins, looking your way for a moment. He could practically feel the tension radiating off your body in a cold heat.
Orientation went by in a haze, you hadn’t paid much attention to the formalities and empty social interactions, not when everything in the very fabric of your being told you “No, you aren’t ready. Run. Run. Run.”
“Phoenix.” a firm, but eager hand reaches out to you, breaking your daze like a slap to the face. Your palm meets her’s and you think maybe, just maybe, you can do this. Maybe you can try.
Before you are even aware you’ve spoken, you agree to meet at the Hard Deck for drinks. Then you remember you haven’t touched booze since you got so drunk they had to pump your stomach. Then you remember why you had gotten so drunk in the first place. Then you kind of want to scream, and you kind of want to cry.
But you don’t. You never do.
~~~~~~~~
A stale breeze ocelots throughout the room as you lay in the dark, alone in a loose tee and your underwear. Giving a grunt, you roll onto your back and run a finger across the creases of your sheets, that imprinted into the flesh of your cheek, pondering how you might muster the strength to get up and dress for the bar tonight.
You move in thoughtless motion, tugging on the loose blue jeans that are too hot for California, and a white tee you’d probably stain at some point throughout the night. You take your time on the ride over, even the twinkling lights of gazebos and restaurant patio’s seem so bleak.
With a quick movement, you switch off the radio and settle for the sound of tires grinding against asphalt. Music wasn’t enjoyable anymore, not like it used to be, not when you were sixteen in your brothers jeep, cruising around with his best friend and it’s all so easy.
Your eyes felt painfully heavy, you almost feel stupid for getting behind the wheel. You want to give in and close your eyes, to just float and forget.
~~~~~~~~~
“There you are, fuck! We were about to send out a search party,” Phoenix laughs as she slides of the barstool with a rum and Coke in hand. It’s all so exhausting. Socializing, growing close - friends even, and then the inevitable doom of being disappointed.
“Hey.” You smile softly, suddenly feeling so small. The gazes of your new crew consumed you and you hold your breath. “Thank you for inviting me out, it’s nice to…”you wonder where exactly you were going with that sentence, then settle on sounding like a moron. “…get out.”
“No, thank you for being the one to lug one of our sorry asses out of the sea one of these days.” Laughs another, your eyes shift toward the name badge. Payback. “My bets on “ol Fanboy here.”
“You realize if she’s pulling my ass out of the water, you aren’t far behind.” Fanboy counters, elbowing his pilot in the ribs. “Right?”
“Hey Rooster!” Phoenix shouts over the loud chatter of the bar. “Come say hi to our new doc!”
You’d forgotten how ingrained peoples callsigns were into their identity. Land, sky, or sea, their callsign was more valuable then their real name.  It hadn’t been quite as intense when you were working in the hospital, but they did exist.
“Hu-heyyy,” he drawls out, a little drunk already no doubt. You couldn’t help but smile when you saw him. It were as if the literal sun had been captured in his body, its light threatening to rip through the seams of his tacky Hawaiian shirt. “Nice to meet ya!”
He looked for your name tag, only to realize you had been the only one not in uniform. Civvies was a strict rule you had made for yourself, no matter how tired you were, you never wore your uniform off the base. Plain and simple.
You tell him your name, but he waits for the name that really counts. You clear your throat as you brace yourself with the back of a chair. “They call me Angel.”
“We gotta hear how you got that name.” Payback presses before taking a swig of beer. “I bet it’s one hell of a story.”
The politics of a call sign was just another example of military machismo. It made sense logically, why they were necessary but you had heard your fair share of awful ones to take them too seriously - T-bag, Tiny (last name Richard’s) and Hot crotch to name a few.
Truth is, Angel had been misogyny, thinly veiled as a joke. It’s such a clear memory, you remember it better than your cousin’s wedding that was only a few months ago. The men of the element you’d been assigned didn’t think of you as an equal, but a young, naive girl.
A pet name. A patronizing pet name, the very same ones women had become accustomed to since the dawn of time. When you were quiet, wide eyed and new, you were “princess”, “baby face”, “darling”, “sweet cheeks”, when you stood up for yourself, or commanded the way the others had, suddenly you were “woman”, “bitch” or reduced to just simply “female”.
Lieutenant James “Big Bird” Larson was the worst of them; his taunt’s never took a day off - you weren’t sure if he was capable of ever shutting the fuck up. It wasn’t until shrapnel blasted through his throat, slitting his carotid artery that he was quiet. The blood had spurted like an Italian fountain, the kind you would find in the romantic stretch of Venice that was riddled with wishes in the shape of coins. You had pinched the vein and listened to his gurgled prayers before his wound could be stabilized by back up medics on route.
They still called you Angel, but at least now they had a reason. At least it felt earned.
The comment lingers in the air, you avoid the bait like the plague before gladly taking the hard seltzer Phoenix handed your way. The burn made you cringe as it slithered down your throat like salt in a wound. The last time you’d drank alcohol also happened to be the first and last time you got wasted beyond comprehension.
“Well?” Urges fanboy - damn, so close - with a sigh you give in.
“This guy was bleeding out, so I was pinching off the gash. If I let go he would’ve died…so he said I was his guardian angel.” You over simplified as per usual. “Just medical shenanigans.”
“Dope shit right there.” Fanboy beamed, grateful it wasn’t ironic or an omen that your platoons didn’t have a high rate of survival.
Meandering chatter continued amongst your new comrades, your eyes flickering to the door here and there just to confirm you still had an exit. It felt…insincere. Somehow, you were doing them a disservice by pretending to be present.
You wanted to care about the light hearted jokes, the pool games, the songs they sung at the top of their lungs, but it felt physically impossible. So, alone you sat at the table, more focused on the tiny bubbles of your drink that float periodically to the surface, than joining their game of pool.
“Hangman! Coyote! Get over here so we can kick your ass at pool.” one of them shouts, it didn’t matter who had yelled the name, it mattered who answered the call.
“In your dreams, Rooster.” his voice is the same as you remember, still dripping with cockiness and oozing with cool. Your fingers curl around the cool glass in your hands, pressing your fingertips into it so hard your nails could have snapped clean off.
Water blasts through the windows with a shriek of breaking glass, flooding the bar, uprooting chairs and tables, carrying bottles and bodies. It’s cold and all consuming, and you’re back. Most times it came to you whilst you slept, vulnerable and defenceless, that’s when those memories invaded your mind and possessed your body.
The water is red, a frighteningly, bright red, and it leaves the taste of pennies on your tongue. The body floats. You fought the water with every muscle in your body, and your throat burns as a mixture of salt water and blood sting your lungs. You nearly have him in your arms but it’s just so hard, you almost have him, his parachute ghosting at your finger tips as you reach, desperately trying to cling to him.
“No” It’s horrible the way it comes out, like a strangle in the back of your throat. “Please, no, please!”  And suddenly you’re praying, and wondering if God exists at all in the same breath.
“Angel, you good?” Phoenix asks, resting her chin on the que, concern washes over her face.
Hangman’s attention shifts from the pool game onto Phoenix for a moment, following her gaze he settled on you. A look of confusion falls into a soft, sullen look.
“No.” you squeak out, your head shaking ever so slightly. He doesn’t move, he doesn’t dare move until you do. Digging your heels into the varnished wood floor, your chair  screeches as you get to your feet. It’s more of a whisper this time, but it slips out again. “No.”
Jake Seresin had run through your life like a tornado through a small town, and you’d spend far too long digging through the debris and picking through the pieces that broke apart in the chaos , to put yourself through that again. You slap a five, or maybe it was a ten, you couldn’t be sure or really give a damn, down on the table. It’s a sickly feeling that creeps up from the pit of your stomach and radiated throughout yours nerves, seizing your spine and rendering you fingers numb.
“Sorry.” You choke, a lump forming in the back of your throat. “Sorry I just have a headache, erm, I guess I forgot to eat today.” You realize in that moment how terrible of a liar you are. Fibs never came easily to you, it was something you wished you worked on, like a fine skill you could hone when necessary.
Gently Bob taps the cup to your arm, now convinced you are famished beyond compare. You yield, taking a few peanuts in your hand.
“Thanks.” You don’t even like peanuts, but you force them into your mouth and chew, and chew and chew until it’s mush. Make them believe you take care of yourself, you remind yourself. “Hey tonight was really fun-” you begin, realistically you’d spent all of what you rounded up to as ten minutes at the Hard Deck. “But I’m not feeling so good, so I think I’ll just head home.”
“Yeah, no, no of course.” She knows it’s a lie, but she smiles anyways.
The second you slip out the back door you gasp for air, taking in as much as physically possible. It almost hurts how far you push your lungs. You brace yourself on the patio ledge, thankful for the privacy of such a pathetic moment. Your head pounded like you’d just been on a three day bender despite having but a lick of alcohol. The bile rises faster then you can even realize what’s happening. Emptying out what little you have, you stifle a sob and heave and heave and heave.
Upside down, the world felt simpler somehow. Perhaps it was due to the fact you couldn’t physically think for a moment, but you weren’t going to waste a moment of peace going over the logistics.
The blood rushes back to your brain as you straighten up. Like divine intervention, your vision clears suddenly, and you set your sights on an unopened bottle of water. Had it not been screwed on so tight, you wouldn’t have trusted no one had put their lips to it. There were worse things, you thought, there were definitely worse things. Taking the warm water in your mouth, you swish it about and pretend it’s not the flavour of melted plastic in the California sun.
Your face buries into the palms of your hands as you lean your elbows on the rail, the sound of waves crashing  did well to ease some of your nerves that had been drawn taught.
~~~~~~~~~
Scrambling for your keys as you round the Hard Deck, you freeze just before the drop of the curb. He’s taller then you remember, but perhaps you’ve just forced him out of your mind so often, you simply forgot what he really looked like in person. Even the way he leans against your car is self righteous. It’s your beloved army green jeep, but Jake Seresin could have convinced you it belonged to him had he spoke it into existence.
“You’ve grown up. Christ it’s been forever hasn’t it?” The cool and collected nature of his tone had all but shrivelled and died, what was left was something you couldn’t quite decipher. “I thought our reunion would be a bit more explosive.”
“When have I ever been explosive?” You asked, patting around your jeans for your damn car keys.
“I can think of a few times.” He smirks, but it falls when he see’s how frantic you are to find a means of escape. “Really, are you that desperate to avoid me?”
You ignore him, patting at the denim of your pockets over and over as though the keys might magically appear.
“Look at me, please.” Jake pleads, but you don’t.
It isn’t until you hear the sound of metal meeting metal that your eyes snap up to catch his gaze for the first time in two years, dangling the key ring in front of himself. Coaxing you to step closer like he were holding a string of yarn out to a kitten.
“You left them on the table inside.” He answered before you could even think to ask.
“Oh.”
Twirling the key ring around his finger, he quickly retracts them into his palm. You couldn’t recall ever putting them down. “Can we at least talk?”
“I’d rather not.” It’s empty. You’re empty. It physically pained him not to reach out, to touch and comfort you. He thinks of the Claremont Motel.
Jake’s jaw sets in a hard line, grinding his teeth ever so slightly. “You can’t avoid me forever. I’m inevitable.” His words struck you like a freight train, knocking the wind from your lungs.
“Why? What more is there to say?” You ask, the moon catching in the teary glow of your eyes. You leaned against the hood of your car, stabilizing yourself as the world spun and your stomach flipped.
“It doesn’t even have to about that. I just wan’t to talk. I literally would settle for a discussion about the goddamn weather…how’ve you been?”
“I’m fine.”
“God you’re such a shitty liar.” he conjures a low laugh, with a grin that stirred something you didn’t want to acknowledge.
“Fine, I’m not fine.” You shakily concede. The last time you’d been fine was a time you weren’t sure even existed. “Jake, I-I don’t know what you want from me? If you want to talk, there’s really nothing else to say.” Something clicks in your mind, like a puzzle piece you had spent ages trying to place in it’s spot, sliding into the curves and aligning the edges. “Nothing that couldn’t have been said two years ago.”
Jake had knocked the wind out of himself before, at least three times if he were to count, but this was nothing any physical push could cause. This was a wind he’d held onto in the chambers of his lungs for so long, never thinking it would be stirred again.
“I just want to talk. Please, can we just talk.” His walls are reinforcing, stubborn determination trickling through his demeanour. “Christ, I’ll settle for a chat about the weather…I just miss you.”
“No.” Your teeth grit together, ready to spit, throttle and scream at him. But you breathe out, it’s slow and focused. “The weather is lovely, with zero humidity and a light breeze, and you, Jake Seresin, do not miss me.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Trust me,  I’ve spent a long time coming to terms with the ugly truth that you don’t.” It visceral, it’s somewhere between depressed and furious, but it’s so calm that it confuses him.
Waiting, and waiting and waiting, so much time waiting on Jake.
You would have been happy with an e-mail, a voice mail or just any trace of proof that you weren’t just a vessel for his guilt for one night. You hated how badly you wanted him to want you - but you put that dream to rest.
Dreams were silly, and you’d grown far too familiar with nightmares to really mourn the loss.
~~~~~~~~~
Drunk off boxed wine you picked up at a overpriced market on the way home, you sat on the floor of your bedroom, sinking into the lush, fluffy white rug you’d spent way too much money on. The pale blue glow of the television offering the only light you would allow. Anything could of been flashing across the screen, you would have been none the wiser.
There’s a small part of you, it’s minuscule, but you find yourself praying to hear a knock at the door. To have someone hold you and let you sob. Your eyes close and you find yourself pretending the muffled voice on the tv are a crowded room, and you aren’t so incredibly alone.
~~~~~~~~~
Hangman fucked up. Badly.
It was such a small interaction but it stuck to him like glue. The smile your way, the the meeting of gazes, the air of hope that maybe, just maybe, you would give him an inch, but you resisted by a mile. To make matters worse, you’d been so excruciatingly warm to Fanboy. The pressure of G-force had royally wrecked his neck, and Jake could not tear his eyes away, watching as you pressed and prodded the tender flesh at the nape of his neck, feeling for displacement or injury that was worse for wear - you were practically jacking him off.
You even laughed at something he said. What the actual fuck?
It played over and over like a scratched disk, repeating and repeating, anxiety building in his chest. It was a stupid mistake, it was such a colossal rookie mistake. Nearly clipping Phoenix’s wing, Hangman lost control for a moment after getting caught in the  jet wash, descending into a terrifying flat spin. White noise fills his ears, the radio fell on deaf ears, someone was hollering his callsign frantically - Rooster maybe? No, no maybe it was Coyote, or Payback?
“Hangman pull the fuck up!” Alphabet’s voice jolts him back into a plane of existence neither here nor there, that for a moment he’s alive, and Hangman’s flying a two seater. “Pull-up!”
And he does. Just hardly recovering from the death spin.
The debrief that followed was tense, uncomfortable and could have been avoided had he just focused.
Had he not gotten Alphabet killed.
 Finally dismissed, his fellow TOPGUNS stretched and yawned as they rose from their seats,  meandering toward the exit but lingering about the room as they slipped into conversation. A chorus of  “I need a drink after that” and “Let’s get wasted” filtering out of their mouths.
It wasn’t often Hangman was criticized or his technique critiqued, more often than not because he didn’t screw up, but led by example. He couldn’t make anymore mistake from here on out, he refused to, but that started with you.
“You’re going to get me killed.” He sings, striding toward you with . there’s hint of anger interlaced with the smoothness of his voice. “But I guess you wouldn’t hate that, would you?”
You quirk a brow his way, hands deep in your medic bag. It’s so ridiculous you almost don’t acknowledge it. “Sorry?”
“This whole cold shoulder shit? It’s getting in my head. We need to talk this shit out, right now” It’s just above a whisper, not wanting the others who lingered around to hear.
“You can’t be serious.” You sigh, zipping up the bag without so much as meeting his eyes.
“Look, I get it. You hate me. I’m a horrible person. But we need to leave that shit outside of the base, it’s affecting my work.”
“You are the one that keeps bringing it up. Just stick to your own shit and I’ll stick to mine.” your throw your hands up in bewilderment - It sounds simple in theory but it was far more complicated than that. “I’ve literally not said a word to you today.”
“That’s what I’m fucking talking about!” It’s louder than he’d hoped. Rooster’s attention now drawn to the two of you. Phoenix and Fanboy take notice soon after. Bob had noticed long before the others, but dare not get in the middle.
“You good over there?” Rooster asked as he stepped away from the group.
“It’s nothing.” Hangman snaps, looking over his shoulder with a venomous look in his eyes.
“Look, if we’re going to be working together, we need to at least try to-to come to an understanding” he offers, the sound of his voice reverberating throughout the room as he focuses back on you.
“Jake-“ you start, but he’s still going, wound up like a toy car that’s only started his race.
“I mean, with all due respect, I just want to be able to do my job and not be distracted.” He continues, your knuckles pale at your sides as they ball up the material of your uniforms.
“Jake.” You make another attempt, but it’s futile.
“But I can’t, because you’re acting like a child.” Now he’s really getting riled up, but you were no stranger to that. “You’re being selfish, you realize that don’t you? How long can you hate me for?”
“Hangman!” You bark it out like an order, and it takes him by surprise. You don’t give him a chance to overpower the conversation. “I don’t hate you.”
The truth punches him in the throat, you swear his face softens from the hardness he usually carries.
“I never did,  but it’s so hard being near you. When I look at you, I see him dead. I hear him every day. I hear his screams. I hear the static of his com being crushed. I look at you and it all comes back.” The words break apart with a sob, you pout your lips with a twist - a feeble attempt to not cry. “When I look at you it makes me physically fucking sick.”
“Woah, woah guys, chill out!”  Phoenix advances on the situation, ready to pull you out. “It’s been a long day, let's just cool off.” Phoenix tries but you dodge her touch, swerving around her attempt to peace keep.
“Hurting him wasn’t enough, was it?” you hiss - it’s cruel and you know it is. Protecting his conscience was no longer a concern.
~~~~~~~~~
The hot steam of the shower seemed to soothe the tension you’d developed in your muscles after your little run in with Jake, but the thought of him grazing near death today set your stomach in painful knots you were struggling to ignore. The cool tile brought relief to the headache you’d developed as you couldn’t stop reliving the horrible, stupid, awful fight in your head. The rhythmic thud-like heart beat in your temples was growing louder by the second.
Thud.Thud.Thud.
Pushing off the shower wall, you feel around for the tap, carefully listening as you weren’t sure if you were going crazy - sure it felt like a percussion was sounding off in your skull, but that was not just a headache.
Grabbing a towel, you quickly wrap around your check and tuck it into itself, securing it atop your breasts as you stumble out of the shower. Sliding your feet into the dry, cotton slippers you wore about the house post shower, and crept out of your bathroom.
Your heart raced, keeping with the frantic pace of the knocking. “Hold on!” You holler, discreetly tip toeing around furniture so you didn’t alert whoever was waiting outside the door of your proximity - a skill you mastered from the countless times your neighbours tried to invite you over for wine.
 Peeking through the peep hole, you freeze.
“Jake?” You ask, the distorted fishbowl view of him was almost humorous. You unbolt the chain, and slide it across before turning the main lock. Just a crack, you open the door and peer out.  “Sorry I didn’t hear you over the shower…”
“Can I come in…and talk?” God, he really wanted to do that huh?
“I’m not really dressed.” You almost laugh, but he’s so serious that you can’t bring yourself to.
“Don’t worry, nothing I haven’t seen.” He purses his lips matter-o-factly to the side. He’s looking at you, waiting for permission, and against all better judgment you let him in.
“You-how do you know where I live?” It’s squeaky, not at all how you wanted to convey the question.
“The jeep.” It’s not original to own a four door jeep in army green, not in a town that is etched into a naval base. But you know how he knows. It’s the same way dog tags all feel the same, but if you blindly felt through a pile of silver names, you could pick his out every time. You’re brother had that effect on people. His soul stashed away into little pieces of a life left behind.
You linger in the entrance of your small apartment for a moment, not quite sure what to say or do. Protectively fingers clutch the tucked knot of towel, and you feel his eyes stealing glances.
The last and only time you’d been so naked in front of him was the night of the funeral. Both on grievance leave for the next three days, you decided to stay in a motel. You couldn’t handle being at home, not without your brother. It was so empty. The absence of his hollering laugh, or the sound of old sixties rock and roll blasting from his speakers as he’d roll up in his jeep - just coming home as you were waking up. It would kill you if you’d spent another second in that painfully quiet house. You were sure of it.
Your feet ached as you walked around the town you grew up in, leaning into Jake, passing back and forth a bottle of whiskey in a brown paper bag, searching for memories of your brother in the streets, and the stop signs he drove through, or in the tree’s he climbed when he was twelve and you were just nine, worrying yourself sick he’d fall and crack his skull. In truth you both drank that night, but not enough to get wasted, just enough to ease the sharpness that made a home for itself in your chest.
For weeks you’d thought about how he reclined you on the hotel mattress, lips on yours, a salty taste on your tongue as quiet tears slipped from his eyes and mixed with your own. His loose tie dangling down and sending shivers across your skin as it brushed your neck. For months you could feel the ghost of his touch climbing up your pantyhose clad thigh, slipping beneath the black skirt of your dress, slipping into you.
You’d spent so long believing he hadn’t given the night at the Claremont much thought, just another drunken escapade for the books, but Jake still felt the imprint of your heel that hooked around his leg when he kissed you against the motel room door; the husky moans that sung at the back of your throat as you ravaged each other in kisses. He closed his eyes more often then not, and tried to relive that moment, to memorize every detail and sensation, to chase that high for as long as possible. He thought about it when he climbed altitudes, he thought the higher he went the closer he’d get to that feeling again - not once, not even close. Not by a long shot.
You could hear the whispers of sweet nothings still humming in your ears when you tried to focus, when you tried to drown out the aching feeling that you couldn’t shake. You think of that dingy hotel room, lit by nothing but the milky glaze of moonlight and the “Vacancy” sign flickering in seedy neon reds. The feeling of his lips on your jaw, down your neck, peppering  across your breast, lower and lower, here and there and there.
“Why did you make me go through it alone?” it’s courage mixed with fear and it leaks through the cracks of your voice, like downpour on an old roof.
It’s so vivid in your mind; the morning haze bleeding through motel curtains, seeping onto your bare skin. The nervous excitement that settled in, as flashes of the night came crawling back into your consciousness like a hangover. It’s the devastation of his clothes not strewn about the room, entangles with yours, and the absence of a text - god, you hadn’t been worth a ten second text - and the absence that follows for months, dragged onto two years.
“Because I’m a coward.” It’s the most honest thing he’s ever said. The facade of top gun, machismo, ladies man surrendered, leaving behind the man who stood before you. It was almost voyeuristic, like a sight unseen - a sight you weren’t supposed to see, and yet there you were, baring witness. “I was scared. I couldn’t face you sober. If I stayed I thought you’d realize you hated me.”
 His gaze is distant, like he doesn’t want to be there. He can’t be there. A raw pain simmering in the blue of his iris, he couldn’t face you then or and he couldn’t face you now
“I was such a fucking idiot back then.” He sighs, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth. Slowly he nodded, settling on the statement. “I was being stupid and reckless, all for a stupid mission I didn’t even end up going on in the end.”
Rivalry was nurtured by the military, encouraged by old men who hadn’t put their lives on the line in decades. They made you feel like you had to be the best, it was terrifying to think you weren’t. It was unbearable how hard the pressure to be the top of the class became, but when Hangman was running out of chances, Alphabet was there to spare another life.
He had been warned they were too high, that the others weren’t on their asses anymore, but it was too late. Higher and higher he made them fly, he wouldn’t be shot down - he wouldn’t allow himself to lose. Jake had surrendered to G-LOC, they both had.
While Jake came to, and ejected when it counted, it was too late for Zach, the timing was all wrong. Tangled in his parachute, slammed against the cliff sides, shattering bone on bone - it was all too gory to even imagine. He knew you didn’t have to though, and that’s what killed him.
“Honestly, I wish it was me.” He stifles a sob, pinching the bridge of his nose as he drops his head.
“I’m sorry.” You whisper, it’s all so caring and sweet and he doesn’t deserve it. He knows it. “What I said before, about hurting him…it wasn’t fair.”
“I wish I could go back.”
“We can’t, Jake. We can’t. I think it’s time we stop trying to.” you reach for his hand, still clutching the towel with your other.
He finds himself pressing a kiss to the flesh of your knuckles, it’s hesitant, careful. You pull free before grabbing fabric of his shirt and putting all your faith in the towel, pulling him into you. Pull. Pull. Pull.
You’d spend so much time pushing, you couldn’t stand to waste another second of not being in his orbit. Your lips find his, and a cross between a moan and whine murmurs against your mouth vibrates. It’s messy at first, his reaction time off but he quickly comes to, a firm hand finds your waist and he walks you back.
For so long you wanted to be numb, to rid yourself of feeling. Whether you’d achieved it through booze, or an edible here or there, as long as it let you forget, as long as it could lull you to sleep in the sanctity of your bedroom, that’s all that counted.
But now you wanted to feel everything. The sting of his teeth biting at your lip, the light tug at your hair, the taste of his tongue that had the lingering flavour of his favourite strawberry sports drink - everything, all at once. The strength of his grip dug into your waist, too afraid he’d lose you if he didn’t anchor you in place, he could’ve cried.
“Promise me.” You murmur between breaths, his mouth finding your neck.
“Anything.” He breaks away, cupping your face in the palm of his hand.
“Promise me that you want me.” You almost weep, it’s such a terrifying thought. “That you want me, not just need me right now.”
“I want you,” he breathes, dragging the pads of his thumb along your cheeks as you clutch his wrists. “I want you so much that I can’t breathe.”
For the first time, in a long time, you could look at the man who made you feel this life altering fight or flight, and felt safe.
 As dawns kiss painted you in it’s pale golden light, wrapped and entangled sound Jake’s legs, he allowed himself a sliver of forgiveness. Your touch was healing, even in slumber, even when you didn’t try.
There wasn’t a chance in hell that Jake “Hangman” Seresin was running away, not from this, not from you.
Jake Seresin was a complete pain in your ass. He was over confident, smug, and pretty much your least favorite person on the planet. At least that's what you told yourself. You refused to admit just how much attraction you felt towards the blonde, just how much you enjoyed the shameless flirting and attention he aimed at you. You would rather die than allow anyone to realize that.
You were deeply lost in thought, zoned out entirely as a few members of your team huddled around the pool table in front of you. It took Jake a few tries before he finally snapped you out of it, your head turning to face him.
"Are you even paying attention over there, sweetheart?" Jake asked, his infamous smirk pulling at the corner of his lips. "To you? Almost never," you shot back without missing a beat, bringing the beer you cradled up to your lips. Jake chuckled, handing his pool stick off to Coyote before taking the seat next to yours. You nearly rolled your eyes as his arm landed on the back of your chair; body turned to face you as he got comfortable.
"We both know that's not true, don't we?" He prodded, cocking an eyebrow as he watched you drink slowly, trying desperatly to keep your mind in check. "I'm sure there's plenty of people here that would be more than willing to give me attention," you replied, shrugging your shoulders casually before looking at him, raising an eyebrow of your own when you noticed the flash of jealousy on his features, the look disappearing just as fast as it had appeared.
"Sure, you do, but it feels so much better when it comes from me," Jake said with a wink, earning a chuckle from you. "Then how about instead of just flirting with me, you actually make a move?" The words fell quickly from your mouth, making you choke down your regret once you realized what you said. You let yourself relax a little as Jake laughed, resting a hand on your thigh and lightly squeezing the skin there. The touch sent warmth through your entire body, making your cheeks flush slightly.
"Got quite a mouth on you, don't you, sugar?" Jake asked, letting his smile grow wider. His other hand came up to caress your cheek, fingers gently tracing your jawline. Your breath hitched slightly, the sensation of his fingertips on your skin causing goosebumps to form. You felt him lean closer until he was mere centimeters away from your face, your heart hammering inside of your chest as he whispered into your ear.
"What if I did want to make a move?"
Your brain seemed to stop working. You wanted nothing more than to shoot back some remark to Jake, but you were blanking, his soft touch almost being too much for you to handle. If this wasn't torture, then what could possibly be?
He must have sensed how nervous you'd become, because he leaned back just enough so he could meet your gaze properly. You didn't think you'd ever hated someone as much as you hated Jake Seresin right now.
"It was just a joke, darlin," he whispered, his voice low and deep yet smooth. You felt like you should be offended by the way it sounded, or at least taken aback by how close the man sitting next to you was. But all you could feel was anger. Angry at him for making you question your actions, angry at yourself for letting your true feelings come to light. Angry at fate for sending you this asshole to torment you.
With one quick motion, you pushed Jake's hand off of your thigh and stood, trying your best to keep your frustration out of your voice. "You're right, it was just a joke," you said, keeping your tone steady. "I'm gonna head out." You ignored Jake's confused expression as you walked away from the game, the noise of laughter coming from the men behind you only barely registering as you tried to get your heartbeat under control.
Once outside, you took several deep breaths, trying desperately to calm down. What the hell had gotten into you? You were usually composed, logical, and level headed. But when Jake came near you, everything seemed to go haywire. You hated that you let Jake have so much affect over you. How could you act so stupid when every fiber of your being knew that it all meant absolutely nothing?
You almost didn't hear the calling of your name as you neared your car, completely oblivious to the man chasing after you. "Hey!" You heard him yell, reaching out for your wrist. You tried wrenching your arm out of his grip only for him to pull harder. You turned towards him, seeing that he had a determined set to his jaw. You looked him straight in the eye, feeling the anger bubbling inside of you again.
"Leave me alone, Jake." You said, attempting to pull your arm free once more. "Come on, sweetheart. At least explain to me what the hell just happened," he insisted, not budging on his pursuit to get you to talk. You knew there wasn't a way out of this conversation, Jake was nothing if not persistant. He wouldn't leave until he was satisfied.
"Is it all really just some dumb joke to you?" You asked, unable to hide the bite in your voice. He looked taken aback, nearly doing a double take as he reigstered your question. You eventually grew tired of the silence surrounding you two and attempted to pull your arm out of his grasp, letting out a small gasp when he pulled you back with enough force that you fell against his body.
"What are you doing?!" You shouted against his chest, pushing against his chest in attempt to get away from him. Unfortunately for you, he was much stronger than you were, his arms easily keeping you trapped against his chest.
"I didn't know it wasn't that for you," he finally spoke, his voice quiet and you stilled against him. You didn't fight his actions this time as he hooked a finger under your chin, pulling your head up to meet his intense gaze. "It was at first, I-I don't know what happened," you whispered, finally coming to terms with how strong your feelings for the man had grown. No matter how much you denied it, the truth was undeniable.
He kissed you, and you couldn't help but melt into his embrace. There was no hesitation as he deepened the kiss, his hands running up along your back as he held you tight against him. You melted into the warmth emanating from his skin and your mind started whirling with thoughts. All you could think about was his lips against yours and the prospect of him harboring the same feelings you had been.
He finally pulled away breathing heavy as he stared down at you, his hands coming up to cup your cheeks. "Is this enough of a move for you?" He spoke, a teasing lilt to his tone which caused a small giggle to slip from your lips. "I don't know, you might need to come home with me and try again." You teased back and he chuckled lightly in response, leaning down to capture your lips again.
Day 7 of Kinktober: Throwing a Party with Hangman
pairing: jake ‘hangman’ seresin x fem!reader
warning: protected sex, oral sex, anal sex, getting caught.
Tumblr media
Y/N’s POV
I begged my grandma and her roommates that I want to throw a party but they obviously said no, I told them like 5 times still getting a no. So they went to out for a banquet but I stayed home, the banquet said it’s a 21+ event so I can’t go. I secretly throw a party and Jake, who my grandma and her roommates think who’s a bad influence, helped me out and wants to talk to me in private while the party is going on.
20 MINUTES LATER
Jake takes me in my room and it felt like we haven’t seen each other in a long time.
I sit on the edge of my bed and Jake locks my door.
“We’re finally alone Y/N/N.” Jake says walking up to me.
“I know, it’s just my grandmother and her roommates, they think you’re a bad influence on me.” I confess.
“Even though I show you a good time.” He smirks.
I giggle, I look at him and see his eyes, I can tell that he loves me so much, my grandma doesn’t see it.
“Jake, I love you.” I said to him.
“I love you to Y/N/N.” He says getting closer to me.
I make him get on top of me, he wraps his arms around my body to make us go to the end of the bed. We began to make out, he gives me love bites which made me moan. I help him get out of his clothes off his body, he helps me as well.
“Do you have a condom?” I look up at him.
“Right here.” Jake grins with a condom in his fingers.
Jake gets the condom on his cock and position it to my pussy. He goes in and out of me, I moan loudly and scratch his back, I miss this so much. He positions my right leg on his left shoulder, his cock goes deeper than it did before, I scream even louder and tilting my head back on my pillows, I can feel him go harder which made me tug his hair, I can tell how he fucking loved it, he bites my neck, which made me scream again. He stops us and I whimper, he makes me get on my knees and gets a new condom on and fucks my ass.
We hear my door knob rattling, Jake and I try to look like we were talking but my grandma catches us, naked and afraid. My grandma’s face looks mortified including one of her roommates turns away. Jake and I look at each other, we’re fucking terrified as she was.
When everyone left, the house looked so trashed and me sitting on one of our chairs in the living room, embarrassed.
“Why would you do this Y/N!” My grandmother says to me.
I look down.
“Y/N, you promised us you wouldn’t throw a party and be with that delinquent.” Blanche says.
I have nothing to say, I just have this embarrassed look on my face.
“Y/N! Answer me!” My grandma says.
“It was Jake’s idea.” I say still looking down.
“Look up at us while you’re talking to us and stop lying!” Rose says.
“I’m not lying!” I look up and yell.
“Don’t use that tone with us.” My great grandma says pointing at me.
“Now tell us the truth, whose idea was it to throw a party?” My grandma said walking up to me and gets down to my level.
“Me. I did it.” I confess.
“Why would you do that? You’re not a party person.” Blanche says.
“I just wanted to have a fun with my friends.” I say.
“Are you sure? It looked like Jake or whatever his name is had a good time.” My grandma says.
I curl myself up in a ball, I’m so embarrassed.
“I’m sorry you guys, I wish I never did it.” I look up at them with tears in my eyes.
“You know you’re going to be punished for this.” Rose says.
“I know.” I wipe my tears away.
“You’re going to do a lot of chores and it starts with this room first.” My grandma points out the mess in the living room.
“Okay, I’m sorry.” I say.
“Sorry isn’t going to cut it.” My great grandma said.
THE NEXT DAY
I clean the house every inch of it including all of the bedrooms, especially my bedroom, I hate my god damn self! I eventually got everything done and I’m grounded for 2 months, 2 fucking months! I’m not allowed to leave the house, I’m not even allowed to see my friends, and I have to do my homework in the kitchen or the living room. Fuck my life.
Paring: Jake 'Hangman' Sersin x Wife!Reader
Warnings: Fighting, stressed out parents, SMUT, fingering, Daddy and Mommy Kink, kind of sub!Hangman, pussy whipped!Jake, NSFW
A/N: So that one scene from 'The Wolf of Wall Street'.... yeah
Main Master-List
______
It certainly wasn’t how Y/N expected to start the day off.
For starters little Lorraine Seresin who at only 6 months old was the pride and joy of her parents, woke up at 5:30 AM. Which normally wouldn’t be a problem, Jake would just heat up a bottle, feed her then rock her back to sleep, earning Y/N and Jake another two hours of sleep if they were lucky. However it was a problem when Jake spilled the last of the frozen milk and the last tin of formula had been used, thus forcing him to wake up Y/N to nurse their dear sweet Lorraine.
Not the best start to the day but what can you do when you have a baby, but to make matters worse neither of them had slept more than 3 and a half hours due alternating who got up in the middle of the night.
So as Y/N nursed she caught Jake mumbling something under his breath as he decided to start his day. “Can’t wait till this is fucken over…”
Raising her brows, she scoffed, causing Jake to look up from whatever he was doing “what?” His voice laced with concern as he watched her finish nursing, he followed Y/N into the nursery as she laid Lorraine down once again “Baby what is it?” He continued
Y/N quickly made her way back into their room, turning on the baby monitor before turning back to Jake as he closed the bedroom door. She crossed her arms “You can’t wait for what to be over?” She hissed
Letting out a groan Jake rubbed his temple, placing a hand on his hip “really? Now?” He muttered “look Baby I don’t know what you think you heard-“
“Really?!” She quickly cut him off “because what I think I heard is that you either can’t wait for our daughter to-“
“Don’t bring Lorrie into this okay?” He huffed “you wanna know what I can’t wait for?!” He threw his arms out to his sides “I can’t wait till your maternity leave is over because maybe once you get in the air again and have an adrenaline rush, you’ll get this stick out of your ass and your attitude will be better”
Scoffing Y/N tilted her head “my attitude?” She laughed “I’m not the one who’s the nag, ‘oh there’s baby stuff everywhere’ ‘when did we get so messy, why do we have all this shit’ that’s what happens when you have a baby Jake!” She motioned to him “if anyone has a stick up his ass, it’s you”
Raising his brows Jake pointed to himself “I’m a nag? ‘Jake can you do this, can you make sure everything is sanitized three fucking times’” he mocked “out of the two of us” he motioned “who unclogged your tits when you couldn’t?” he motioned to himself “who’s been doing the majority of all of the house work so you could recover so you didn’t pop any of your stitches” he motioned to himself again
“Last I check, you agreed- nay you signed up for this when you” she pointed to him “talked me into having a baby”
“I’m sorry for trying to be a good husband Y/N!” He huffed “but I didn’t sign up to deal with a whiny bitch!” He froze seeing how red Y/N’s face got and how her brows knitted together “I can’t fucking deal with this right now” he groaned before throwing on a pair of sweats over his boxers and grabbing a zip up hoodie. He turned to the door “I’m going to Bradshaw’s because I can’t-“ He took a deep breath “we can’t be around each other right now”
Watching as he left, Y\N waited till she heard the front door close before she threw a pillow at the floor, not wanting to wake up Lorraine by throwing it anywhere else.
As the day wore on, Jake stayed at Bradley’s, sending Y/N apology texts and trying to call her only to be sent to voicemail. Around noon he finally decided that enough was enough.
Pulling into the driveway he noticed how the blinds in the living room were drawn and Y/N’s car hadn’t moved from its spot.
Upon entering the house he heard the familiar soft tune of one of Lorraine’s music toys playing in the living room. Slipping off his shoes he took a few steps into the house before peeking his head around the corner to see Y/N leaning against the armchair with a blanket thrown over her legs as Lorraine rested her head on her mothers shoulder.
Moving her eyes away from her daughter, Y/N watched as Jake crouched across from her on the floor, pulling the sleepy girl from her shoulder she flipped her around so she could look at Jake before the baby leaned against Y/N’s chest “Hi my Lorrie-Bug” he cooed.
She placed a kiss on Lorraine’s cheek “Say, hi Daddy. Mommy was just about to lay me down for a nap” she hummed
“Why don’t I do that” he asked before Y/N carefully handed Lorraine to him “there” he hummed once Lorraine was settled against him “now Mommy can relax a little bit” he kissed her cheek before looking at Y/N “Does Daddy get to kiss both his girls?” He inquired
Not paying attention to him, Y/N started to pick up the toys that had been scattered across the floor “Why doesn’t Daddy put Lorrie-Bug to bed” she played along
Letting out a sigh Jake went up the stairs, rocking Lorrie as he went to further lull her to sleep before he walked back down the stairs “look Y/N…” he called out “I know I was an ass this morning but I’m sorry and right now I really just wanna kiss-“
“Ohh no” Y/N called out from her position against the armchair, causing Jake to pause on the last step and set the baby monitor down on the table that was a few feet away from the stairs “no you see Daddy, doesn't get to touch Mommy for a very long time” she crossed her arms.
And for the first time since that morning Jake took in Y/N state. Her hair was washed, the scent of her favorite lotion filled the air, a lotion that Y/N specifically reserved for when she shaved.
And she dawned a blue sundress- no
She was dawning his favorite blue sundress. It was open backed thus causing no need for a bra, with blue laces that criss-crossed over her skin, it was a long dress but Y/N had pulled it up so the bottom hem rested right over her thighs to expose her shiny legs that she kept pulled up to her chest.
Licking his bottom lip, Jake stepped off of the last step and onto the floor as his eyes traced over her form, he gulped “…and why is that?”
Locking her eyes on his face, Y/N leaned on her elbows against the chair. Lifting the hem of the dress higher as she pulled her legs away from her chest, spreading them out in front of her. Allowing Jake to see the full view of her naked cunt.
“Ohh Baby” his eyes widened, not prepared for the perfect sight in front of him. Bracing his hand on the railing of the stairs, he sank to his knees to be eye level with her “Y/N” his voice groaned “please, I was such an asshole” he whined “and you know that I am so fucking stupid and so unbelievably sorry” he rambled “and I would do anythin-“
Crossing one arm over her stomach she raised the other, her pointer finger taunting him as it wiggled back and forth “tsk tsk tsk, Daddy shouldn’t waste his time” her hand lowered to rest on her knee slowly sliding down her thigh “because since Daddy thinks that Mommy’s such a whiny bitch” her fingers grazed over her folds causing Jake to let out a moan as he slowly crawled towards her
“He’s gonna have to take a good look, because Mommy got so sick of wearing panties” with the hand that wasn’t teasing Jake she pulled out a pair of white cotton panties from behind her back which caught Jakes attention “so she threw them all out”
As she threw the fabric behind her, Jake’s eyes followed them, a wicked grin came to Y/N’s face “What’s wrong Daddy?” She mocked, causing Jake to turn his attention back to her, he paused, gripping the armrest of the couch as her fingers danced around her clit.
“Y/N” he panted “why? I said I was sorry”
Her mouth moved to frown “oh poor poor Daddy” she hummed before slowly rubbing circled on her clit “He’s so sorry when he wants what he can’t have” she moaned inserting two fingers into her pussy throwing her head back against the chair.
“Mommy loves Daddy so, so much and there's nothing she wants to do more right now than let Daddy fuck her into the floor” she smiled at the ceiling hearing Jake crawl closer to her, and just before Jake was within arms reach. She put her foot on his broad shoulder and shoved him backwards. “Well, I guess it's time for Daddy to be taught his first lesson.” She looked back down to Jake, who had almost a pained look on his face.
Keeping her foot planted on Jake’s shoulder, Y/N closed her other leg to obstruct his view, he whined as she continued to pump her fingers into herself “No touching” she moaned.
Hey!! I would love it so so so much if you could do a imagine with Hangman where him asking you out was like a bet with the other pilots and you find out. Also if you possibly could put in the line “You said you loved me, I guess you lied”. Xx
DAMN
Pairing: Jake “Hangman” Seresin x Reader
A/N: Hi! It's been such a LONG time since I've written something but here it is! Thank you for the request, I love writing for the Dagger Squad! Please keep in mind that English is not my first language and I hope you enjoy it! And feel free to send more requests!
Warnings: curse words (maybe like 2), angst, Jake being kind of an ass, a little bit of smut (not much) and I think that’s it
Tumblr media
You walked into the Hard Deck ready for your shift, it was going to be a long night since the Top gun aviators came back and the fact that it was Friday night, so you put on your uniform and greeted Penny on your way in.
“Hey, Pen. Ready for tonight?” you asked jokingly knowing she was going to be very stressed with so many people at the bar. “Yeah keep that joyful attitude because it is aviator's night and the entire squad is going to be here so better prepare, especially if you want that cute blonde noticing you” she joked back winking at you.
Your face dropped. Of course she knew about your little crush over a certain blue-eyed blonde aviator, but she didn’t have to rub it in that much! Besides, it was foolish of you, how could he notice you? He was always surrounded by gorgeous girls, and you couldn’t blame them, but you also couldn't deny how it bothered you. But Jake always seemed so sweet with you, constantly treating you with respect and kindness, it almost looked like he… no. You immediately pushed those thoughts aside and started helping Penny out with the bar, basic chores such as washing the glasses, organizing pool tables and cleaning the bar and before you could notice it was already time to open.
“Hey, sweetheart we are going to open now, ok? Make sure everyone follows the three holy rules and if anyone bothers you let me know” Penny said with a stern voice, obviously she knew how this job worked and she wanted you to feel comfortable “Yes, mom” You joked standing behind the bar waiting for the clients to come in.
A few hours passed and you didn’t catch a break, always busy serving drinks and closing tabs, so busy you didn’t notice Jake entering the bar until one of his friends yelled his call sign “Hangman! Over here man” it was Coyote’s voice, you lifted up your head and instantly regretted it because he was already looking your way “I’m going to grab a drink!” he yelled back walking towards the bar “How are you doing sunshine? Busy day?” he asked with his signature smirk. You felt the heat rising up to your cheeks and tried to play it off laughing “Yeah, pretty busy actually. The usual?” you asked while grabbing a bottle of his favorite beer offering it to him “And also maybe your phone number?” You almost choked on your own saliva when he said those words “I’m sorry what?”
“You heard me, sweetheart. I was going to wait till you asked me but I can be a little impatient, so here I am” He looked so confident it was almost annoying, but you were too surprised to even notice it, only being able to nod while opening his bottle of beer “Yeah, yeah sure uhm give me a minute” you said reaching for a piece of paper “You know, on second thought… why don't you take 5 and play pool with me?” he asked with that smirk again. You looked over to Penny who was taking people's orders. “I don’t know Jake, Penny is pretty busy, i don’t want to…” he cut you off “Hey Pen, darling! Could this beautiful bartender take five minutes?” he shouted across the bar which made Penny laugh and shook her hand telling you to go. You laughed nervously about this, of course Jake had flirted with you other days but you thought he was just playing around, like always. and now he wants to spend time with you? It sure felt like a dream.
You left the bar when he grabbed your hand and led you to the pool table next to his aviator friends, you smiled at them, after all they were regulars and some of them were specially friendly with you, like pornstache and cute glasses. They all smiled at you, some more than others which seemed kind of odd, but that thought was pushed aside when Jake brushed your hip offering you a cue stick “Know how to play, sweetheart?” you smirked and approached the table placing the balls and starting the game “I don’t know, lieutenant, do I?”
He smirked and watched every movement of your body during the game, especially when you bent down on it.
Short time later Jake and you were left even, only the black 8 ball missing “Let’s make this interesting, if I win you go out with me on a date and…” you cut him off “If I win you must pay a round for the whole bar” Jake looked around and saw all the people that were that night at the bar, you could hear Phoenix laughing wishing you luck “Ok darling, let’s see what you can do”. With a small smile you bent over and hitted the ball making it fall on the hole but… also the white ball, you lose. Phoenix and Rooster groaned, they would have loved seeing Jake bankrupt because of a pretty girl. Coyote was the only one that cheered for Hangman and they both high fived like a couple of teenagers. You could only stare at the pool table almost angry at the loss but also remembering what the price was, was Jake taking you out? Seriously?
“Well now you and I will have a date. How does dinner and a walk on the beach sound to you?” he said in a charming tone of voice making you blush “Sounds good” You replied walking back to the bar leaving Hangman behind while you were trying to process everything. Finally, it felt so unreal, you were almost floating, so happy that the next three hours of working went flying for you, but not for Penny, she was exhausted and asked you to close the squad’s tab. Happily you went over to their table and told them it was closing time, they booed jokingly grabbing their things and paying Penny on their way out, only Jake was left “Hey sweet cheeks, what about our date? Want to take a walk on the beach?” you immediately grabbed your things and walked out of the bar saying bye to Penny.
It’s safe to say that the date was amazing, you both talked for hours and when you were too tired to walk you just stayed in his car chatting more and more. He told you everything about the mission he had with Maverick where he saved his and Rooster’s lifes, obviously showing off, he talked about his family, about his friends, everything. So you opened up too, reciprocating every chat with another. The only thing you could think about was how lucky you were.
“I had an amazing time with you, doll”
“Yeah, me too” you said looking at those baby blue eyes that had you on your feet the whole night “This is going to sound weird, we don’t know each other that much but, I have never met someone like you and… I think I’m falling in love with you”.
You froze. What? Love? No it couldn’t be. This was Jake “Hangman” Seresin. Why? How? Is he for real? You honestly didn’t know what to say, of course you had a huge crush on him but something felt weird “Jake… I don’t know what to say”
“Just let me kiss you” he asked. HE ASKED. HANGMAN ASKING? You shook your head but when your eyes locked with his you were long gone. You pushed your lips against his while he wrapped his hands around your waist pulling the pilot seat backwards so you could seat on top of him. And without noticing, the kiss got deep and messy, filled with need, his hands never leaving your waist. He then moved his lips over your neck, that’s when you knew you had to stop “Hey, Jake. I’m really enjoying this but…” he immediately stopped, almost worried about you “Everything ok?” he rubbed your back while kissing your cheek “I think we should take things slow” you started getting off his lap falling into the copilot seat “Yeah, yes agreed” he said with a small smile “See you tomorrow?” you asked, opening the car’s door “Of course” he waited for you to get off before driving away. You couldn’t figure out why but you had a bad feeling about this.
A couple of days later you still haven’t heard from Jake, you texted him but he never answered. It was kind of weird, he tells you that he’s falling in love and then ignores you? Your thoughts were interrupted with the sound of a familiar voice “Hey, sugar how are you doing?” it was Rooster, taking off his sunglasses and sitting down on the bar “I had better days” you sighed “Oof what happened?” you opened him a beer “Your friend, that’s what happened! First he wants to take me on a date, then he tells me he is falling in love with me and THEN he ghosts me, what kind of sociopath does that?” you scoff cleaning the bar aggressively “Wait what?” he almost sounded angry “He told you what?” he repeated gripping the bottle he had on his hand “He told me that he loved me!” you almost yelled closing your mouth as soon as you saw him entering the bar without even looking your way.
And with that you saw Rooster walking towards Jake fuming “What the fuck is your problem Seresin?” he yelled, making everyone look in their direction “Whoa calm down, what did I do this time?” he asked, lifting his hands up laughing at him “What did you do?! Why don’t you tell her, huh?” he pointed in your direction, you were so confused about the situation and not wanting any more problems you left the bar and stood between them “Rooster come on, is nothing stop it” Bradley shook his head in disbelief “Either you tell her or I will” he yelled walking away and sitting on the table with the rest of the squad who were as confused as you “What is he talking about?” you asked Jake “I don’t know! Maybe he’s jealous” he said not even looking at you walking towards the pool table leaving you speechless. You knew that wasn’t jealousy, that was pure frustration. But seeing how things were going you decided to return to the bar.
Rooster wasn’t jealous. He has never shown any kind of interest, has he? No, he was respectful and friendly. It had to be something else.
“It was a bet” someone said interrupting your thoughts “i hate to be the one telling you this, but Coyote made a bet where Jake had to ask you out and tell you he loved you, in return Coyote would become Jake’s wingman” you stood in your places shocked “I am so sorry, Rooster and Fanboy heard them the other day and warned him not to do it but… we all know how he is. An asshole” you finally had the courage to look up for you to realize it was Maverick, with tears in your eyes you shook your head not wanting to hear anymore information “I’m sorry, kid” and like that he left.
You looked over to where Jake was and dropped on the floor slowly so no one could watch you, except for Penny, the moment she realized she lifted you up and told you to go home. She hugged you and kissed your forehead “I’m so sorry sweetie, men are assholes”. And she was right, blinded with anger and resentment you waited for him outside leaned over his car. When he finally came out and saw you he approached you trying to kiss you but all that he received was a hard smack on his cheek. He was left with his head turned to the side and a shocked expression. The smack was so loud the whole Dagger Squad came out and when they saw what was going on they decided to stay at a safe distance.
“You selfish, idiotic, narcissistic prick!” you yelled “Yesterday meant nothing? Was it just a bet? Are you that disrespectful towards the rest of the humans, huh? Or do you simply like playing with people’s feelings because it makes you feel powerful?” you stopped briefly to catch your breath, tears threatening to come out “You told me that you loved me! You said you were falling in love with me! How could…” you stopped wiping your tears away “How could you?” crying, you left your spot and got into your car driving away “You are an asshole, Seresin” Fanboy said “We told you not to do it” Rooster added.
Jake could only look at you feeling all kinds of emotions: shame, pity, sadness, frustration because, in reality, he did enjoy the time he spent with you, he did love kissing you, when you both went for a walk he did love how the sound of your voice sounded like, how sweet you smelled, how he could talk to you so carelessly, not worrying about his image or about what you would think of him, he loved how you held onto him while he kissed you and how he felt something he has never felt before. But it was all a bet right? “Damn”.
it was strange he wasn't around, more hurtful and unexpected than anything. you had never been apart since you had started working for the company.
you'd eat your lunches together,
do errands together.
if you weren't physically together you were most definitely on the phone complaining about what the two of you had to do in that moment or day.
either one of you would buy each other coffee for whoever had gotten out of bed even if it was only slightly later than usual. it was kind of like an unspoken rule.
you could say you leant on each other alot throughout the stresses of your daily tasks. you in particular dealt with major anxiety and he'd be the one to calm you down.
try and reduce your work load and put it on his plate instead, yeah it might of made it more work for him - but it made him at ease when he saw you even slightly relax.
so this had made you worry more about what had been going on with him recently.
at first he didn't call you at all one day, only one messaged once at the end of the day filling you in on what happened. one day turned into three and five turned into a week.
worry lines were becoming more prominent and your wrinkled outfits proved that things weren't looking so good.
all of his behaviour made sense when you met her.
you felt dumb at first, like it made complete and utter sense when you put all the pieces together and felt silly for not seeing it sooner.
now everytime you'd walk into the office, you'd be met with them laughing and joking as they both rummaged through the papers on charlie's desk multitasking eating whilst doing so.
you'd given him a slight glance not to be caught, but you didn't need to worry about being seen since he hadn't taken his eyes off of harper.
your eyes slightly watering as you made your way out of richards office towards the entrance door for another errand to take your mind off of him.
you never thought you had to worry about this sort of thing. you never thought this would happen.
you should have seen this coming, but you didn't.
you were too comfortable, so you gave the both of you some distance.
instead of talking to him on the phone after you were off the clock, you had stuck to keeping yourself busy by reading or watching shitty romance movies.
it only tugged at your heart strings more. missing him was unbearable.
you couldn't admit it to him how you felt... let alone even to yourself!
so here you stand outside of his front door, pizza in hand.
fist banging loudly against the wood only to be met with footsteps after.
the door was opening to be met with him and his stupid pretty eyes and fluffy unstyled hair.
"hi..."
you realised there was nothing to be hesitant about when you felt him almost immediately wrapping you up in his arms, holding you closer to him. trying not to drop the large pizza in the process.
melting into his arms, door still opening whilst the two of you just stood there like that for a little bit before pulling away with smiles on your faces.
"are you two gonna make out or what?" both of you whipping your heads around to find duncan stood with a glass of water in hand looking at you.
rolling your eyes you turned back to each other as he walked away shaking his head.
"i thought something bad happened! i haven't seen you in forever, what's gone on?"
how could you even answer that? yeah im in love with you and it pretty much killed me to see you with somebody else mhm.
"wait you're in love with me?" your smile dropped realising you had said that aloud.
"uhhhh...no?"
Insecurities (Hangman x Reader)
Pairing: Jake Hangman Seresin x Feminine Reader
Synopsis: You’re in Jake Seresin’s bed, but your insecurities are getting in the way.
I was inspired by Florence Pugh amazing post about her showing off her small chest and how she had to fight to accept her (perfect) body. It’s a topic that I know too well, and so I wrote what I would have loved to read 10 years ago. Hope it helps other girls struggling with body image.
Warning: self-loathing & body-image issue, mention of past harassment, smut, breast play, oral (f receiving) 1.4k words
Imagine 1 // Imagine 2 // Imagine 3 // MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You can’t believe you’re here. In Jake Seresin’s bed. He’s half naked, the sun lighting the hard planes of his perfect body from behind, enhancing the contrast between his tanned skin and his golden hair. He looks like Apollo himself. Jake. Freaking. Seresin.
It should feel like heaven - and in some aspects it does - except you’re also terribly anxious. Jake can feel your body tense when he removes your T-shirt, but he discards that as anticipation. But then you barely respond to his kiss when his hands reach for the clasp of your bra and he knows something is off.
It’s stupid really, you don’t know why you react like this, and you’re upset at yourself, because damn you’re in Hangman’s bed, and you know a good dozen of girls who would kill to be in your place. It’s not even the first time you fuck. The other night, he had taken you behind the Hard Deck in the secrecy of the night. It was different, you were both all riled up, too much in a hurry to remove your clothes. He just had bunched up your dress and tucked aside your panties to sink into you. You were slightly buzzed thanks to a couple of beers, ecstatic at the idea of finally catching the pilot in your net after weeks at dancing around each other in a will they won’t they game. It had been great, you enjoyed the hard fuck, he had even been considerate - more so than you expected, his hand behind your head so you wouldn’t bash your skull on the wooden planks of the wall with each of his powerful thrusts.
But right now, in his bedroom, in the broad daylight, you’re suddenly anxious. You love your body, but there is this one part of your anatomy that you have a complicated relationship with: your breasts. They are way smaller than what is usually considered attractive for your frame. To put it simply, as the boys from your high school would tease, you’re “flat as a pancake”. Actually the teasing did not stop with the end of high school, and you’ve heard grown up men mock you so during parties at university and later on whisper it behind your back during coffee breaks at work. From the cute sales assistant explaining the lingerie store did not carry your size to your own mom making nasty comments on your appearance, you had grown to understand it was a problem. The one thing you had a hard time to reconcile with. You even had envisioned breast implants - and you would probably have if it wasn’t so expensive and if you weren't so scared of hospitals. So you relied on wearing push-up bras on a daily basis, some so full of padding that it felt like wearing a fake breast plate, a literal prosthesis, to soothe your insecurities and cut short the teasing remarks.
It was seamless under your clothing, but the moment a guy would have to unclasp your bra, the trick would be revealed. It was quite the predicament you were in, because you were convinced you needed those to attract partners - and at the same time, you knew you would panic the moment someone would make a move to remove your top. You settled for quickies with the clothes on and one-night stands with the lights off to make up for what you felt you were lacking. It was ridiculous - and at the same time, you had been taught from childhood that “real” women had voluptuous curves, that a flat chest meant your body was “incomplete”, child-like, distorted, almost monstrous. Those were extremely harsh words, you knew that. The years of nagging and the overpowering imagery of those thin women with ample breasts had already done the damage - despite your best effort to love yourself unconditionally.
Jake stops in his tracks, he parts from you to study your face, his hand cupping your cheek. “You ok sweetheart?” Shame creeps up your face, you’re mortified at the idea of telling him the truth.
“Did I do something wrong darling?” he inquiries. Tears swell in your throat. Your lips quiver for a second before you can pull yourself together.
“Hey hey, what’s going up princess?” he asks more softly - and you scoff because when will this man run out of pet names? He searches for your eyes, but you can’t find the strength to sustain his gaze. You take a deep breath.
“It’s just… I’m sorry… I, um, I don’t like showing my boobs.”
“Oh.” he sounds cautious and a little bit lost. “Do you have any medical conditions I should be aware of? Like, do you have a third nipple or something? Cause I don’t mind, that might be hot actually” he tries, a stupid grin forming on his face.
“What? You little freak, no!” you huffs, and you swat his thigh for good measure. He fakes a groan of pain in a comedic way, and it gives you the nudge you needed to spill it all.
“They are… well they are… small, I-I mean they are basically, um, flat” you finally admit, closing your eyes, brows furrowed like you expect him to ew in disgust.
“Are you kidding?” Jake asks, not unkindly. You open one eye to prudently look at him, then the other when all you can see is something akin to interest on his face.
“First of all, I’m sure they’re perfect. Second of all, I’m a little bit hurt because darling, what kind of man do you think I am? I’m not five. I know boobs come in all sorts of shapes and sizes - I’ve seen quite a lot, trust me,” he punctuates his sentence with a full grin and you restrain yourself from rolling your eyes, ”and I love all of them.” he adds with a tone so serious, it’s almost comical.
He tips your chin up to encourage you to look at him. He needs you to see there is no lie in what he says. “I’m sure I’ll love yours, if you want to show me” he goes on, the gentle drawl in his words a balm for your nerves. You worry your lips between your teeth, twist your hands. You would not have bet Jake, from all people, to be so understanding, yet he’s being so patient, you can’t refuse him.
You let your bra fall on the floor with a sigh, cheeks burning with anxious anticipation. You feel more bare than ever. Hangman’s gaze flickers from your face to your chest. The old instinct to cover yourself up is here, and you have to fight it, your fingers curling in fists at your side.
Jake leans down toward you, his lips brushing the shell of your ears “told ya, they’re perfect” he whispers, voice low and amused. He kisses you again, his huge hands hold your waist in a firm grip like he’s afraid you’ll run and hide, but all you do is melt against him. He licks at your lips, your neck, he nips at your collarbone before going even lower, leaving a trail of open mouth kisses until he closes his lips around one of your nipples.
A long moan leaves you, and he seems as surprised and pleased as you.
“Sensitive I see” you feel him chuckle against your chest. He pushes you gently on your back until you’re laid down on the sheets, and your hands fly reflexively in his hair. The short blond strands are soft as velvet as you grab on them. He lets go of the tiny bud to focus on the other one, and he swipes his tongue on it until it grows hard, eliciting more moans. It’s really the first time you let a lover spend so much time pleasuring you like this - and you’re glad you listened to him because the new sensations are overwhelming in the best way.
You’re getting lost in those feelings until his fingers grazing through your folds send a shockwave through your body.
“You’re already so wet darling…” he comments, voice thick with lust. “Let me show you what more I can do with my tongue” Jake grins and he lowers himself between your legs. His hands come cupping your breasts just as he starts licking a wide stripe along the seam of your cunt.
You arch against his mouth with a whine, and he knows he definitely has won you over. You’ll never hide again.
Bad Reputation Part 1 | Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Taylor Swift inspired!OC
Tumblr media
Request: Requested by @akornsworld
Word Count: 3457 words
Summary: There's that saying for some people, “You can't go home again.” When you grow up and leave, that's it, you don't go back home. Presley Joann Benjamin (stage name Presley Jo) believed that was the case for her. Never did she think she would be right back where she started. But her Aunt insisted it was the best for her. She thought for sure her life and career were over until she meets a certain cocky aviator.
Warnings: Alcohol use, angst if you squint, maybe some cursing, fluff, some depression if you squint
A/N: This will be a multipart imagine. Not sure how many chapters there will be yet.
She made it. She was one of the biggest singer/songwriters this generation has ever known. She was a hit pop sensation. She went on tour, her more recent ones going international. She won many awards: Grammy's, Billboard, MTV Awards, VMA's. She had many other accomplishments she was proud of and didn't think she would even come close to experiencing what she had. Things were going great… until they weren't.
Things started to go downhill, and they went downhill fast. Her reputation was ruined. All because she refused to be used and abused in Hollywood. Everything started to fall apart. The cancel culture started to come for her. She was completely lost on what to do. Which is why she disappeared from the public eye.
She didn't answer her phone for days. Her aunt began to lose her mind and flew from San Diego to New York to see if she was even alive. What she didn't expect was to walk into her niece's loft to find her lying in her bed in the dark. Tissues and multiple bottles of alcohol littering the bed and floor. Her aunt knew then and there she couldn't survive this dark period by herself. She forced her up out of bed, demanded she take a shower, and forced her to pack her bags to come home.
Home, the place she hasn't been in about 10 years. When she was still a bright-eyed 20-year-old dreamer. The place where she got her start while working part-time at her aunt's bar as a server. Where her now ex-asshole manager discovered her. Playing and singing her heart out on that old piano in the middle of the bar, entertaining the aviators currently stationed in the area, who she was sure said they “knew her when” when she finally started becoming known.
She can't stop staring at that old piano through her sunglasses from her bar stool.
“Why don't you go play something? The only person who ever touches it anymore is Bradley,” Penny said to her niece, cleaning out a beer glass before placing it with the others.
“No thank you,” Presley said quietly, adjusting her baseball cap on her head.
“Well, can you at least take the hat and glasses off? And look at me when I'm talking to you,” Penny requested, laying her rag on the counter.
Presley huffed and turned around on her bar stool. “I'll take my glasses off and look at you but I'm keeping the hat on.”
“Presley, nobody is here right now,” Penny argued, gesturing around the empty and currently closed bar.
“Exactly, right now. But you know as well as I do that this place will be packed in less than an hour and I really don’t feel like being mobbed considering the current state of my life,” I argued back with her.
“The current state of your life that you are going to get through and fix. You're a Benjamin, nothing can stop us,” She reassured me.
I sighed in response to her words and attempted to slam my forehead down onto the bartop. However, I let out a groan in pain when I just ended up hitting the bill of my ballcap off of it instead. I heard Penny sigh and heard the telltale sound of her walking around the bar and moving to sit on the barstool next to me. She began to run her hand through the ponytail sticking out of the back of my ballcap before speaking.
“Presley, I know what you are going through right now is hard and you may feel like your life is over. But that is so far from the truth. I brought you back here not just because you needed the support, but because you needed to get back in touch with your roots. You may not believe this, but sometimes going back to where it all started helps to see where it all went wrong,” She whispered to me.
I scoffed in reply and lifted my head up. “I know where it all went wrong.”
“Maybe. Maybe not. But until then, I want you to at least try to live your life. Stop focusing on what happened and focus on what could be. Don’t worry about writing your next hit or whether you will be invited to the next award show.  Focus on spending time with me and Amelia and being normal.”
I stared at her for a moment before nodding with a sigh. “Alright, fine. Where do you want me to start?”
She nodded at me gratefully before standing from the bar stool. “You can start by helping me open the bar. I know you know how to. Go to the stock room and grab what we need and then help me finish the glasses.”
I groaned in annoyance before standing from my chair and moving to do as she asked.
---------
The moment the first person walked into the bar I rushed to push my sunglasses back on my face and kept my head down and I have continued to do so since the bar opened about 30 minutes ago. The place has had people nonstop coming in and out. Aviators, soldiers, and civilians taking up the space around me. The once-quiet bar was slowly becoming louder as more people filtered in and the evening rush slowly began to take hold.
A glass being placed in front of me caused me to look up briefly at the bartender standing there with a smile.
“Thanks, Jimmy,” I smiled back at him.
“This stays between you and me. Your aunt told me not to serve you but I figured one drink wouldn’t hurt,” Jimmy told me, pointing his finger at me as if he was scolding me.
“Don’t worry. She won’t hear it from me,” I reassured him, reaching forward for the drink in front of me.
Jimmy gave me a thankful nod before moving to serve another person. I sighed and took a sip of my drink when my phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out to see another news article about me. I sighed and clicked on it, frowning at the words glaring back at me.
“Presley Jo: Where is the Princess? Has she run away to hide in her castle?”
“I’m not a princess,” I grumbled to myself, glaring at my phone as someone appeared next to me at the bar.
“Jimmy, I’ll have 6 more, and whatever the “not princess” is having,” a voice with a distinct southern accent spoke up from next to me.
I slightly raised my head and pocketed my phone, looking over at the person standing next to me through my sunglasses before looking over at Jimmy.
“Uh, that won’t be necessary, Jimmy,” I told the old man who nodded at me.
“Aw, c’mon darling. Let a nice man buy a beautiful woman a drink,” He argued with me in his accent, leaning on the bar sideways so he could look at me.
I let out a small giggle and shook my head, looking over at him and looking him over from top to bottom. Sandy blonde hair styled to perfection, bright green eyes shining in the lights of the bar, thin lips pressed into a smirk, and a khaki uniform that causes me to roll my eyes from behind my glasses and look forward. A gorgeous human being ruined by what he does for a living.
“Well howdy, John Wayne. I appreciate the offer but no thank you,” I told him, grabbing the still half-full glass to take a sip.
“John Wayne,” The stranger questioned me in shock, raising his eyebrows.
“Oh, I’m sorry, do you prefer Eastwood,” I retorted, placing my glass back on the bar top.
I heard the aviator let out a noise that was a mixture of a scoff and a chuckle before he spoke up again.
“Well, that just hurts my feelings, sweetheart. It’s not every day I get made fun of for my accent,” He said in amusement.
“Well, I’m glad I could bring some excitement to your day,” I smiled at him sarcastically.
I heard a huff of amusement. “You know what would make it even more exciting.”
“No, but I feel like you’re going to tell me anyways, cowboy,” I said with disinterest.
“Your number.”
I scoffed in disbelief and began shaking my head with a grin. “Trust me, my number is the last thing you want buddy.”
“Oh yeah? Why’s that,” He asked me curiously, leaning in closer to me.
“Because my reputation isn’t exactly the best right now… If you knew who I was you wouldn’t want to have anything to do with me, I promise you that. So do yourself a favor and find someone else to court like the small-town country boy you are,” I informed him, pushing my sunglasses farther up my nose.
“Well, maybe you can give me a chance and I can prove you wrong,” He argued with me.
“Doubtful,” I muttered, taking a large gulp of my drink.
“Why don’t we start with a name? If you're so famous like you're making yourself out to be. Then I can tell you if I’ve heard anything and if I believe what I’ve heard,” He offered up.
“I am most definitely not giving you my name,” I denied immediately, shaking my head.
“Well, then how about you take off the sunglasses and the hat Hollywood? Then I can tell you if you look familiar,” He tried again.
“I am not doing that either,” I said with another shake of the head.
“You enjoy playing hard to get don’t you,” He asked me with a smirk.
“It’s not playing hard to get if there’s nothing to win,” I told him.
He stared at me in silence, causing me to look over at him. I could see a few different emotions swirling in his eyes. Admiration, desire, amusement, and what looked like affection.
“I’m Jake,” He said simply.
I stared at him for a second and nodded in response. “Cool.”
This Jake person opened his mouth to speak again before being cut off.
“Is Hangman bothering you, PJ,” Jimmy asked me sweetly, looking between the two of us.
“No, Jimmy. It’s fine,” I reassured the old man.
“Are you sure? Because I have no problem ringing the bell on him,” Jimmy told me, gesturing over his shoulder to my aunt's bell.
“As funny as that would be and as much as I would enjoy that, it’s not necessary,” I reassured him once again, picking my drink up and finishing it off.
Jimmy nodded at me and grabbed my now empty glass before walking away, but not without throwing a warning glare over his shoulder at this so-called “hangman.”
“So, now you know my name and my callsign. Are you still not willing to give yours up miss “PJ,” Jake questioned me.
“No, Hangman, I’m not,” I shrugged at him, beginning to stand from my barstool. “Hey Jimmy, Let Penny know I’m headed home,” I asked the old man, watching him nod at me before going about his work again.
“So you know Penny,” He asked me.
“Wow, nice deduction there Mr. Eastwood. That navy training is really doing you some good,” I said sarcastically, turning to head out the door.
“I’ll get your name eventually,” He called after me.
“Don’t bet on it, Lieutenant.”
---------
I groaned in pain at the sudden weight being thrown on top of me, a bright giggle slipping out of the person’s lips. I wrestled my hands out from underneath them and lifted them to grab the comforter covering my head. I pulled it down to see Amelia lying across me with her dog Theo running into the room and joining us in the bed.
“Amelia, why,” I groaned.
“Because mom told me to wake you up. She needs you to do something for her,” Amelia told me before hopping off the bed to leave the room, Theo following closely behind her.
I groaned tiredly before throwing my blanket off of me. I leaned over the side of the bed and gripped my sleep shorts that I had taken off before bed. I pulled them on before doing my morning routine of brushing my teeth and washing my face. I then ran a brush through my hair and pulled it up into a bun before making my way downstairs. I followed the noises I heard into the kitchen to see Aunt Penny running around trying to make breakfast for Amelia as my little cousin tried to finish up her homework at the last minute. I walked over to Amelia kissed her head and gave Theo a pat on the head, before taking a seat on the other barstool at the island.
“Morning,” I sighed out to Aunt Penny.
“Good morning. I have a few errands I need to do this morning. Is there any chance you can take Amelia to school and then go to the Hard Deck to get some of the opening duties done for me,” Aunt Penny asked me quickly, placing Amelia’s breakfast on top of her homework and causing the young girl to let out a groan of annoyance.
“Yeah, sure,” I nodded at her.
“Thank you. I shouldn’t be long and should be there at around 10. And Amelia knows the drop-off procedures,” She reassured me.
“Penny, it’s fine. I know what to do and I will get Amelia to school on time,” I reassured her.
“Thank you,” she told me once again before gathering her things.
She walked around the island to place a kiss on Amelia’s head and one on my cheek before moving towards the door.
“I love you girls,” She called over her shoulder.
“Love you too,” We both called out to her.
---------
After an anxiety-ridden school drop-off and halfway through getting the bar ready for opening, Penny showed up with a thankful smile.
“Thank you,” She told me, pulling me into a hug.
“You’re welcome. I mopped, did stock, and washed the glasses. They just need to be dried and all of your paperwork needs to be done,” I explained to her, gesturing to all of the glasses sitting in drying racks.
“You are a lifesaver. How was drop off,” She asked me.
“Well, um, I have been through quite a few anxiety-inducing events in my life, but I think drop-off was the worst one to date,” I informed her with a grimace.
Penny winced at my words and nodded in agreement. “It can be bad.”
I nodded at her in agreement before moving to sit on the piano bench, my back facing the instrument to curb the need to play it. Penny looked between me and the instrument before speaking.
“Why don’t you play something while I finish up? I could use the entertainment,” She offered up, grabbing a rag to begin drying the glasses.
“No thank you,” I sighed, running my hands over my thighs to rid them of some of the sweat they built up.
“Presley, you can’t just give up music. I haven’t heard you so much as hum a note since you came home. And you've been here about two weeks now,” Penny scolded, placing her hands on her hips. “I used to have to pry you away from that piano. You couldn't stop writing and playing. You constantly had something new-”
“I’m not giving up music… and did it ever occur to you that maybe I'm just uninspired,” I interrupted her, looking at her sadly.
Penny frowned before placing her rag on the counter and leaning forward. “You're uninspired right now, but not forever. Something will bring your light back, I know it. For right now, how about you play some of your old stuff?”
I stared at her for a moment before sighing and nodding. “Fine. But I'm not singing. I'm just playing the piano.”
“That's fine with me,” She reassured me as I turned around and placed my hands on the black and white keys.
I began playing one of my songs gently and let myself get lost in the music. Meanwhile, Penny continued working behind me to prepare the bar for opening in a couple of hours. My one song turned into two, which turned into three. However, my playing stopped when I heard the front door open. I tensed up in my seat and looked over at Penny out of the corner of my eye. Penny dropped everything she was doing and immediately turned towards the person who entered the bar.
“Hangman, we don’t open for another few hours,” Penny called out to the person who walked further into the bar.
“It’s Friday, Penny. Dogfight football day. Just stopped in to get some beers for everybody before heading down to the beach,” Jake argued with her, walking over to the bar.
I could feel his eyes on me as he conversed with my aunt, causing me to turn my head slightly so he couldn’t see my face.
“Well, why don’t you head outside and I can bring them out to you,” Penny offered up.
“Nah, Pen, it’s fine. I don’t want to take up any more of your time than I need to,” Jake denied her. I listen to Penny let out a sigh before moving around the bar and gathering what he asked for. “I know that song you were playing, darling. I believe it’s called Enchanted by-,” He cut himself off when I finally looked over at him.
“Presley Jo, a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Eastwood,” I stated, holding my hand out to him with a blank expression on my face.
“PJ,” He hummed, gripping my hand in his own with obvious shock on his face.
“Hm, I normally just go by Presley,” I hummed out with a shrug, staring up at him.
“Mhm, Penny my dear, do you understand who is sitting in your bar right now,” Jake said in disbelief.
“Of course I do. I raised her,” Penny shrugged at him simply.
Jake turned around and looked at her in shock. “You raised one of the biggest pop stars on the face of the earth and didn’t tell anyone?”
“It’s not exactly something I go telling everybody, Hangman, no matter how proud I am of my beautiful niece. Besides, Bradshaw and Maverick know.”
“Rooster knows? Maverick I understand, but Rooster,” He asked in disbelief.
“Bradley and I grew up together. Who do you think taught me piano,” I interrupted, drawing his eyes back towards me. Jake continued to stare at me in shock and awe, causing me to slightly squirm under his gaze. “So, you going to go tell everybody I’m here? Sell a story to the media?”
Jake shook his head at me before releasing a scoff. “Why would I do that?”
“Because it’s what everyone else does,” I shrugged, fiddling with the hem of my shirt.
“Well, Darling, I guess I’m not everyone else then,” He shrugged at me.
I looked at him in shock before speaking again. “You still want my number?”
“Hm… that, and I’d still like to buy you that drink,” He shrugged at me.
I looked at him in shock and disbelief before shaking my head at him. “You still want something to do with me after finding out who I am? Even with everything being said about me and me being canceled?”
Jake shrugged at me before stuffing his hands in his pockets. “Not all your fans believe what’s being said about you.”
My gaze softened and I couldn’t stop myself from staring into his bright green eyes. He held my gaze for a few moments before Penny cleared her throat.
“Hangman, your beers,” She said, pushing them all towards the aviator.
He removed his gaze from me to turn towards my aunt and gave her a thankful smile. He told her to keep a tab open before turning back towards me. He gave me a wink before moving towards the back door of the bar to go to the beach. I watched him walk away and out the door before removing my gaze from him and looking back at my aunt. She raised her eyebrows at me in amusement before crossing her arms over her chest.
“You gonna tell me what the hell that was?”
previous part | next part
------------
You just moved to California, wanting a change from the cold Vermont air and where better to stay than with your aunt, Penny Benjamin. Penny was your mom’s sister, an unfortunate accident in 1999 took your mother and your father, you were 10 years old. Penny was more than willing to take in her only niece, even if it meant having you relocate to Virginia with her.
Years had passed and Penny had done all but adopt you, she called you her daughter when people asked, made all your appointments for you until you were old enough to make your own, she helped you with boys, and then girls, when you came out to her. She held you while you cried over your first real heartbreak, she taught you all about your period and safe sex. She made you feel comfortable, like you could go to her with any problem that you had, and she would fix it for you.
Maybe it also helped that your grandfather was an admiral in the United States Navy, but that’s beside the point, Penny Benjamin took care of you when you had no one once, and she was more than happy to do it again.
Being a teacher, especially in today’s world, is hard. You had to worry about whether or not your school was going to fall victim to the next mass shooting, if you could keep your kids safe in an environment where the legislators didn’t care. It was a hard choice to make, leaving the school system, because you knew that they were already understaffed, and that there were no qualified substitute teachers available to take over your position… but between the abuse from your principal, the students, and the entitled parents? You were done.
You at least waited until the end of the school year before packing it all up and moving west. It was a sad goodbye with all the students you had loved but for your sanity, it was what you needed to do.
Penny had an open bedroom, and Amelia was thrilled to be living with you again, mainly so you can help her on her homework, and of course you were happy to see Penny and Pete back together. You always loved having him around when you were a kid, and it really did feel like your relationship with him never waivered, even though you only texted each other for holidays and birthdays after the last time he and Penny “broke up”.
You were laying on the couch scrolling through your phone, not paying attention to whatever it was Amelia had put on the tv when Penny walked in after her short shift at the bar; it was a slow weekend and Jimmy had it plenty under control.
“Hey, so I might have told one of the guys Pete works with that you’d be willing to nanny for him.” Penny says as soon as she walks in.
“Are you talking to me?” Amelia asks, not looking away from the tv and Penny laughs.
“No, your sister.”
That catches your attention and you groan.
“I don’t want to nanny some old admiral’s bratty kids.” you say as you sit up and Penny sits next to you.
“He isn’t an old admiral with bratty kids, he’s 35, the same age as Bradley, and he literally just had an infant dropped off on his front porch today.” she tells you and you look over at her. “He needs a lot of help, and you would be perfect for the job. Aside from working at the bar you’re never doing anything.” she shrugs and steals some of the popcorn that was on the table and you look at her with your mouth open.
“Okay, first off. Rude. Secondly, I do plenty of stuff!”
“Oh yeah? Like what?”
“Uh, I help Amelia with her homework.”
“And you can help her while also helping Jake out with his daughter.” Penny says and you sigh.
“Fine.” you grumble and head into the kitchen, “do you eat yet, Pen?”
“Yeah, Pete brought me food to the bar.”
“Don’t you… serve food at the bar too?”
“Not sushi.”
You spend the next three weeks waiting to meet this Jake guy. Sure you knew of him, but you didn’t want to be persuaded by the ‘Hangman’ persona that he had before becoming a dad. Sure people don’t just change overnight, so you’re sure he still has quite the mouth and attitude, especially if this baby is keeping him up at night.
You opened the bar early and the members of the Dagger Squad slowly filtered in. Bob was sitting at the bar with you while you were getting bottles ready, he was telling you a story from when he was a kid on his family’s farm and he was chasing down pigs and slipped and fell in the mud when the bell above the door rang.
Looking over, you see a man you don’t recognize carrying a little baby in the cutest little dress you’ve ever seen, a diaper bag slung over his other shoulder. You shoot him a smile as he walks up to the bar.
“Hi! I’m Y/N Benjamin, but you can call me Saturn.” you say as you wipe a rag over the bar top, cleaning up some of the iced tea that Bob spilled. “You must be Jake?”
This new man smiles at you and nods, “Yes ma’am.” he says, setting the diaper bag on a barstool.
You watch his muscles flex as he shifts his daughter from one side to the other to give his arm a break and he catches you staring at her. “This is Avery.” he turns so you can see the little girl’s face and you let out a gentle little coo.
“Oh look at you! Aren’t you just the cutest little girl.” you say, talking in a voice that has her laughing and reaching out for you. You take her from Jake without even hesitating and she plays with the fingerprint pendants of your parents that you have hanging around your neck.
Since the bar is still technically closed for another hour and a half, you make your way out from behind the bar and take a seat on the stool next to Bob who smiles at the little girl, pulling away as she tries to reach for his glasses but isn’t quick enough as she rubs her chubby fingers over his lenses.
You and Jake just laugh at her antics and at poor Bob who is left with baby drool covered glasses for the time being, but even he can’t stay mad at little Avery. She looks up at you, blue-green eyes bright as she smiles her little gummy smile and laughs along with the two of you.
Jake can’t believe how comfortable Avery already is with you, it took days for her to warm up to anyone aside from Penny; she still doesn’t like Rooster but Jake believes it's a hundred percent because of his mustache. Normally he’s nervous when she’s around strangers of any kind, even her own doctor when she first saw the woman, but with you he’s oddly… comfortable.
Begrudgingly you hand Avery back to Jake, you have to open the bar in 20 minutes and you’re already way behind but thankfully Bradley volunteers to help you get ready. You’re standing next to him slicing limes as he cuts up some oranges.
“You know, she’s never taken to someone that fast before.” he says, making sure the slices are relatively uniform.
“It’s because I’m a woman.” you tease and he rolls his eyes.
“No, seriously. Penny was a given because she’s just the best, but Phoenix? Bob? She only just started to get along with them, and those two are the best people in this entire squad. It even took her a bit to warm up to Hangman and he’s her dad.” Rooster says, stealing an orange slice that he cut too thin before taking a beer from the fridge under the counter and walking away.”
“You have to pay for that!”
“Put it on my tab, Rings!” he calls out, throwing a wink over his shoulder and you roll your eyes, opening a tab for him before going over to the window and flipping the ‘open’ sign on.
You’re about halfway through your shift when Jake walks up to you, Avery sleeping against him despite the volume of the bar.
“Hey, headed home?” you ask, taking the top off of a few beers before handing them to the patron that was waiting.
“Yeah, figured she would prefer to sleep in her bed tonight than on the pool table.” he jokes and you give a gentle laugh.
“Yeah, probably.”
“I wanted to ask if you wanted to go out this weekend? Talk about what Pen offered? If-if you still think you can help me out?” he chews his lip a little, nervous for you to say you’re not interested.
“Yeah! Definitely, uh… here,” you grab a napkin and write your number down with a little cartoon drawing of a circle with a ring around it, how you always signed your nickname. “I’m off on Saturday and Penny isn’t opening on Sunday since it’s going to be such a hot night, she wants us to be off so I’ll be free whenever on both days.” you tell him and he tucks the napkin in his pocket with his phone.
“I’ll text you on Saturday? I can pick you up? Or I mean-” you cut him off with a laugh.
“You can pick me up, I assume you know where Penny lives?” he nods and smiles.
“Yeah, yeah I do.”
“Great, see you on Saturday, Dad-man.” you give him a wink before turning away to go help Jimmy out with the patrons that have gathered around the bar. Jake laughs and turns around to head out, Dad-man?
