Glow Week, an art week dedicated exclusively to Steven x Connie, returns this May from the 18th–24th!

Here's how Glow Week works! For each day of the art week, you select one (or both, who's counting?) of the two provided prompts and create an original art piece based upon it. It's that simple! You even have roughly one month to prepare your works! Important note: Participation does not require creating pieces for all 7 days! Feel free to pick and choose which days you will participate!

You may enter with ANY kind of art! Traditional, digital, fanfiction, music, edits, animation, whatever! HOWEVER, NO 18+ IMAGERY, NO AI "ART," AND NO STEALING!

All submissions should be tagged with: #GlowWeek, #GlowWeek2, and/or #Connverse! I will reblog any entries I find, so make sure I can actually find them.

Fun fact: Starlight never corrupts in his story, so this half-corrupted form is considered non-canon. His fully corrupted form is a big moth-lizard monster creature!

Glow week day 5: Mother/Father

Doug was not a crying man. He tended to express more emotion than his wife, true, but he wasn’t one for crying. He generally preferred to be loud and stern at whatever made him feel as though he may cry. Chalk it up to what you will—ideals of masculinity taught to him, his tough job as a security guard hardening him to such feelings, or, just maybe, it was his daughter.

Connie had thrown herself into danger almost from the moment she learned she could. Doug was unbelievably proud of her, of course, but sometimes (always) he wished she was safer. But she had a zeal for the thrill and adventure that came with fighting, and her dedication to protecting her home was admirable, so, when Doug and Priyanka sat down and talked it over, they agreed not to keep her from this.

“She’s far more likely to get hurt and stay hurt if she feels she can’t come to us,” Priyanka said, and that was that.

(It wasn’t that, actually, there had been more talking and feelings and several contingency plans made, but on the outside, that was that.)

Doug kept strong in the face of his daughter running off to space and fighting monsters and aliens. He smiled watching her run through drills with a real sword, sharp enough to cut skin. He clapped for her when she announced she wanted to try therapy again (the first several tries when she was younger had not gone well. No therapist seemed to be a good fit), despite it meaning she might not come to him and her mom  with her life as often. He held her tightly when her chin trembled despite her clenched jaw as she explained to them that her best friend had self-corrupted because he hated himself that much. He folded his hands behind his back as she, ecstatic, told him that she had a boyfriend now.

Doug was not a crying man.

He was bawling now.

Sat beside his wife, Doug made brief eye contact with Greg Universe across the aisle, who himself was wiping tears away. Blurry eyes found Connie at the altar just beside Steven. They hadn’t even said their vows yet, and yet somehow this had Doug’s vision all blurry as water slid down his face. He clasped a hand over his mouth to hold in the giddy laugh that bubbled up from within.

Priyanka glanced over at him and took his hand in hers with a faint smile. Her smile grew as her attention turned to their daughter, who looked resplendent in her white gown. It shimmered with shades of blue in the morning light, and sun glinted off the golden armor of her bodice. A delicate Maang Tikka rested on her forehead. She looked so strong and proud that Doug set himself off again, wiping his eyes just so that he could continue to look at her.

Next to him, Priyanka sighed, but her smile did not falter.

Doug was hardly the only one crying at the wedding—gems and humans alike were teary at the union they were able to witness. Steven himself had been crying on and off the entire ceremony, and his waterworks started up again as Connie slid a ring onto his hand.

She dipped him rather dramatically for their kiss and Doug practically shot to his feet, clapping as hard as he could. His hooting joined with the cheering of the whole crowd, one great, joyous cacophony. It was so deafening he could hardly hear Priyanka shout “Welcome, damad!” and she was right next to him.

Doug wasn’t a crying man, but exceptions could be made for especially wonderful occasions.
