goldfish are domesticated descendants of carp (subfamily Carassius of the carp's family Cyprinidae)

carp spread from china to japan (liyue to inazuma in game) around 200 AD/CE as a source of food, where they were eventually bred for their colors as koi

while goldfish were first bred in china sometime during the tang dynasty (618-907 AD/CE), it's definitely plausible that they were introduced to japan the same way carp was, especially since the means for doing so were already in place (as seen by the introduction of carp hundreds of years prior)

imo inazuma's real-world equivalent of time is about 1867 AD/CE (ei's abolishment of the sakoku decree as aligned w the real-world abolition of the sakoku edict), meaning there would be more than enough time for the Fish Folk to arrive in inazuma and for goldfish to be bred from the carp prior to yoimiya's birth

essentially! what if ms fujin's descendants or her fellow carp adepti evolved from carp to goldfish and made their way to inazuma while they were at it? what if, in the same way that human domestication changed the fish's form, being around humans reduced their adeptal qualities to nothing over time? with the amount of thematic matter surrounding the interactions between humans and adepti over time i j think thatd be neat :D
