Man the tension between you two started out high

You were on your way to Rito Village for a couple of months to research so goddamn it you had to deal with this mf again

Honestly he took interest in you because everyone always thinks of him as this wondrous magical being (he has a special power none of the other Rito have, so he's looked up to a lot) and not enough people treat him with a bit of fiery attitude nowadays

He always tried to strike up a conversation between you two for some reason

He even paid for your snowquill armor (armor to keep warm in the cold area) Huh

He's still very snarky with you though, Hylia forbid he shows affection and favoritism to another

You've learned to just accept his personality as it is... he's got evidence to back up his boasts, he IS very strong

You couldn't resist just watching him effortlessly nail every single target in his flight range while he practiced

Loves to braid your hair.... maybe places his own feathers into it 😳

He'd tease you for your height and use it against you

He wouldn't outright tell you his frustrations about Link, but you'd offer for him to take you on a flight and he'd agree :]

You usually sing while he flies around

Don't tell anyone this but he thinks your singing is better than his mom's singing (and hers was pretty good)

You can tell he likes you HAHAH

He does his best to hide it but everyone can tell- he's very different around you

He takes you to places of interest that you usually spot on the ground while on his back

One time you got your much needed payback when Revali suddenly got attacked by Lizalfos one day

You were grabbing fruits from the bushes when you heard his squawk of surprise

You rushed to the commotion, to see him on the ground, trying to fumble for arrows- the hostile Lizalfos looming over him

You approached the oversized lizard, and with one clean swoop, chopped its head off

What Revali saw was cinematic

The sun was directly behind you, sending a godlike glow over your silhouette

He winced when he heard your words, "Your defensive form was atrocious..."

On another note, he loves staying under shelter on a rainy day and just crafting arrows

You like to sit by him (he's very warm) and watch him do so

Cue him internally freaking out HEHSHE

And finally his ultimatum as a friend-about-to-be-bf; he takes you up to Vah Medoh

Okay you knew that mechanical bird was big but HOLY HYLIA THIS BIRD WAS MASSIVE

You just gawked at its sheer size

He noticed

"Impressive, I know."

You rolled your eyes at his ego, "Must be compensating for something."

You then spent the next 30 seconds screeching at him to stop diving towards the ground

When he finally brought you up, he had Medoh fly over Hebra Mountain

You were caught off guard by the sudden gentleness in his voice when he called your name

"I'm not accustomed to... situations... like this, but I cannot ignore these feelings for any longer."

You felt like the wind got knocked out of your chest

"Would you do the wonderful Champion Revali the honor of courting you?"

"OH COME ON REVALI DO YOU REALLY HAVE TO PREEN YOURSELF EVEN WHEN ASKING ME OUT?"

So like i want to imagine a scenario where idk he just feels comfort hearing the sounds of the reader's heartbeat for some goddamn reason idk. Could be in a near death situation or just berdly being curious or both :v

I've decided to make this hurt/comfort after a nightmare, I hope you don't mind!

Also, sorry for taking so long, I needed to do research on Berdly's dialogue.

Bad Dreams Cold, Heartbeats Warm

"Trying to psyche me out!? W-well... It's not working!!"

... Proceed.

"I'm telling you, I... I... I don't know what you're talking about."

Proceed.

"I'm telling you, stop! I... I don't know what you're talking about!"

Proceed.

"Fine... Watch what happens!"

Berdly leapt up from his spot with a loud "SQUAWK!", quickly alerting the human next to him. The mentioned human stopped writing in their notebook, quickly facing the bird monster.

"You okay, birdy?" the human asked, watching Berdly with concern. Their hand was nearly reached out, pulled back in case he didn't want to be touched.

"Wh..." he began, barely processing the voice next to him. He barely remembered the dream, but he could remember the freezing air that surrounded him, suffocating him under its weight.

"Berdly," Y/N's voice interrupted his thoughts, "Are you okay?"

He snapped towards the human, trying to reassure himself that he was safe. The dream wasn't real, and he knew that, but he could still remember it so clearly. "I..." he forced out, "I don't know..."

After scanning him for a few seconds, Y/N asked "Do you want a hug?". Berdly nodded, and the human wrapped their arms around the puffed up bird monster. The minute they had fully wrapped their arms around him, he melted into their touch.

It felt nice... comforting, even.

For a few minutes, all was well. Berdly then noticed a repeating motion from Y/N's chest; it went ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum over and never seemed to dip. Pulling back from the hug, Berdly placed one of his wings in the center of the human's chest. "What is that...?" He loudly thought to himself, causing him to mutter the question out-loud.

The human looked confused, seemingly not noticing that there was a weird beating in their chest. A metaphorical light bulb seemed to appear above their head, causing them to let out a small "Oooh," before placing their hand on Berdly's wing. "That's my heartbeat," they explained, "All humans have one."

"Wh... Huh?" He asked, dumbfounded by this discovery.

"Humans have blood," the human simply began, "Heart pumps blood through body so humans can function."

"... Huh," He muttered in some form of recognition.

"There's several other points on the body that have a 'heartbeat'," they continued, "Such as here," they pointed to an area on their neck that was below their chin, "And here," they then pointed to the area below their thumb with their palm facing up.

He simply stared in some form of awe. Monsters only had one place where someone could tell if they were somewhat functioning, and humans had at least three. This was a puzzle he definitely needed to solve... That was for later, though.

Gordon had always been vaguely fascinated by humans. Not as people, but more like how a zookeeper felt fond of a tiger. Interesting to observe at a distance, and if you knew what you were doing you could get remarkably close, but if it ever caught you, you’d be dead.

first off, the entire windowsill scene that this is from is both incredibly important and unplanned. its the start of gordon being a goddamn hypocrite about boundaries and obsessed with benrey in a way that he cant quite put his finger on. repressed little gay freak (affectionate)

this specific bit is like the thesis of gordon's character arc with benrey. his whole deal so far has been about learning to trust what he thinks of as fundamentally not a person. which is huge for him of course! its a big step to go from 'completely alone and terrified' to 'friends with a monster,' but the next step of 'realizing that that is a Real Guy who youve gotten awful close to 😳' is a big one :3c

i think its fun that two characters who are equally Not Human came away with completely different reads on their dynamics. gordon came away from their meetcute with the idea that benrey is a monster but fun to hang out with. benrey has never doubted that gordon is a person and came away with the desire to suck his dick so bad it makes him look stupid <3

Okay, I really don’t know how you did this bec fucking a monster made up of shadows should be at the very least be creepy if not downright gross, but this was amazing! 😳

The backstory you built up for Tae was so good! I mean it was v v v sad, but it worked so well. The way OC’s thoughts obsessively spun around him was also so well crafted, I could relate to them on many levels too. Her own backstory, I feel, helped carve out the events and her character really well. Kinda justified her sympathy for Tae and her fascination of him in a way? Am I making sense? 😭

I also really really loved the subtle softness and romance you weaved into their dynamics. Like, of course he is a monster and of course this is darker than fkn vantablack, but the subtle way she showed her acceptance of him and he showed his appreciation of her really had me in a chokehold. 😖

Absolutely in love with this fic. I swear I’m always gonna remember this bec I doubt I’ll ever find something like again.
