New Year, New Semester, New Camera, New Project.

This semester’s project is similar to last semester but I am straying away from the alternative processes…for now. What I’ve thought about for this semester is what’s important to me as a photographer with my projects. The most pertinent thing is film photography and in a close second is traveling. As of now, I am still using black and white photography and developing it myself. I would like to eventually add in color but I do not know how to develop color film and right now that’s an important element in this project.

As I think about the travel aspect for this project, I recollect on other travels I have taken in the past and what has stuck out as a memory. It seems as though I get the most joy from visiting the places that are on my way to the destination. Most of these places are small towns, some are the quirky Roadside America attractions and some places barely have any visitors. I am interested in what’s In Between home and the destination.

Another element I am adding to this project are portraits of Locals from the destinations. These portraits will be black and white, large-format negatives I’m interested in looking at the similarities and differences between the people that make up Ohio. My goal is to have a different person for each location in Ohio.

Travels this week were Delaware State Park, G&R Tavern in Waldo with their famous bologna sandwich and Frank from Dayton.
