Give Your Home A Classy Look With Granite Slabs
Tumblr media
Granite is a rock that is more suitable than others for outdoor decoration, especially for paving. Most varieties of granite are resistant to high loads (high passenger traffic), chemical contaminants (salt and street chemistry) and temperature changes. The use of granite slabs in the home is quite essential as it will make your home stunning.
Granite slabs floor cladding
The floor is an excellent place to use granite slabs in Sydney since it is on the floor that all the distinctive properties of this stonework ultimately. Granite is extremely durable and resistant to abrasion; this is perhaps the strongest natural building material.
Lay the granite slabs in the passage areas: hallways, halls, and terraces. A lot of sand and dirt particles get into the house on the feet from the street, which can damage many types of coatings, but not granite!
Natural stone is often chosen due to the variety of colours and patterns. Granite in this regard is rich in various colour combinations and patterns. It is possible to recreate both classical, and hi-tech motives in interior design with granite.
Square tiles will give classics in the interior, and modern trends can be emphasized by a combination of different shapes and colours, as well as the use of rectangular tiles.
Do not forget that any stone is a cool material, and because of this, in many rooms, the aesthetic pleasure will be smeared with discomfort. Do not put granite in the bedrooms and nurseries.
Think about the feasibility of installing a “warm floor” system where granite slabs will be laid. It can be a kitchen area, a bathroom, a relaxation room, a billiard room.
Granite in the bathroom
The stone-lined bathroom looks excellent. However, a competent designer knows that you should not overdo it with this material since full cladding of the floor and walls in the bathroom is permissible only for large rooms equipped to the highest standards. If the bathroom is not comparable in size, then the use of stone should be limited.
Tip: To get rid of excessive monumentality, use small granite slabs and combinations of different grades and types of stone processing. Like any other room, the bathroom also has its functional areas, which can be visually highlighted with various finishing materials.
In addition to wall and floor cladding, granite is used in the form of countertops and washbasins. In specialized publications, you can find examples of bathtubs made of a solid granite block, but this is a rare exotic for our latitudes.
Granite Fireplaces
Fire and stone - this is the “perfect couple” that will make the living room in the house incredibly cosy and will become a centre of attraction for all households and guests. Granite slabs will perfectly decorate the fireplace area while ensuring the necessary fire safety. Depending on the chosen style, a granite fireplace can be decorated with pilasters, a metal grate, tempered glass. An interesting solution would be the layout of granite slabs near the hearth.
If you need granite slabs, find the perfect ones in Sydney

Day 2 walking Roncesvalles to Zubiri
Distance: 22 kilometres (official trail distance) 29.1 km (we actually walked)
Elevation gain:
Cardio level: 4
Steps:
Patrick’s steps - 32,024
Archana’s steps - 38,400+ (Apple Watch battery resigned after 18 kilometres walking)
Weather: raining at the start then drizzled twice during the day.
Terrain: Wood, woodlands, Dragon feet
Tuesday 3rd September
After everything we had heard about how tough day one was, we anticipated Day 2 with mostly downhill walking would be an easy-peasy day!
Tumblr media
And it did start as an easy-peasy day, walking with friends made along the way, eating the Basque berries (wild black berries, blue berries, cranberries etc…) of the bushes in the forest. In no time the sun had begun to shine and we had to stop and pack our rain gear away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Little did we anticipate the terrain known as Dragon Feet! When we woke up it was raining. After a hearty breakfast, we donned our rain gear, dropped the suitcases at the reception for the baggage moving company and started walking. The walk actually started just across from the hotel. The initial part was pleasant despite the rain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For a while Archana walked with a father and son from Catalonia near Barcelona, they were David and Martin. Martin inquisitive and friendly like our god son Kirav back in Sydney, only 7 years old with two missing front teeth. Archan asked David how far they were walking and he said we take each day at a time and walk until Martin gets tired, so far Martin had already walked 11.5km with us and there didn’t seem to be any signs of fatigue on that ball of energy. David was his father, tour guide and teacher….. also interpreter! Martin couldn’t speak or understand English and we don’t speak or understand Spanish! But conversation we did have…. Non-stop! We discussed everything including why Martin hated flying. Sometimes Archana would drop back and sometimes David and Martin, but every time we crossed paths, Martin would show his smart watch to discuss the distance, the speed etc…. Tina, Martin’s mother and David’s wife would travel in a van to the next village, book accommodation and walk from that village until she met with David and Martin and then walk back to their accommodation. Archana thought what a great way to educate the child
Tumblr media
Only 22km or so we thought, until we realised we were walking downhill on wet earth and stone. By stone, we mean slabs of granite at 75-90 degrees angle in the earth. They were white and jutting out of reddish soil making them look like the top of a dragon’s feet. Extremely treacherous and slippery. If you missed them then you could end with a broken angle at the least! Nevertheless, time flies when you are focussed on something, and just like that we arrived into Zubiri.
As the company that organised our accommodation couldn’t find anything in Zubiri they booked us 2 nights in Pamplona and a taxi from Zubiri to Pamplona on that afternoon and from Pamplona back to Zubiri the next morning so we didn’t miss walking that sector. 😅
Tumblr media
The taxi ride was pleasant more about the hotel in Pamplona. It was a local electric car.
Tumblr media
Pamplona - Hotel Ciudadela
Tumblr media
The hotel was well located and the room and amenities pretty good for a 3 star rated facility. Firstly we sorted the laundry, found a coin washer close by and while the laundry was getting washed we walked to around the old city. After the laundry we found a lovely bar and enjoyed some of the best made Sangrias and Pintxos (little nibbles)! It was a warm evening and we walked back to the hotel feeling relaxed!

The Allure of Stone Benchtops Near Newcastle
Tumblr media
Newcastle, located North of Sydney in Australia, is rapidly growing into a hub for innovative architecture and interior design. Natural stone benchtops in Newcastle are one element increasingly finding its way into kitchens and bathrooms. With their rugged beauty and practical durability, it’s no wonder stone benchtops are becoming a staple feature.
Popular Stone Varieties
Granite, marble, and quartzite remain highly popular natural stone options for benchtops in the Newcastle area. Granite is admired for its unique patterns, colours, and resistance to scratches, heat, and stains. The downside is its porousness requires yearly sealing. Marble dazzles with its elegant veining, though is also quite porous and prone to etching from acidic liquids. Quartzite combines granite’s resilient properties in an array of marble-esque aesthetic options, making it a rising star.
Of manufactured stones, quartz closely imitates marble and granite but with added durability. Its non-porous composition provides an advantage over natural stone in kitchens. Concrete is another manufactured option gaining appeal with its trendy industrial look and limitless customisation ability. It proves highly heat and scratch resistant though sealing is recommended.
Benefits of Stone Benchtops
Natural beauty is a main driver behind stone benchtops’ popularity in Newcastle. No two stone slabs have the same patterning and colouring, ensuring unique, organic-looking surfaces. Stones like granite and quartzite also bring a welcome coziness and textural contrast against cabinets and walls.
Beyond aesthetics, stone stands up well to heavy usage in kitchens and bathrooms over time. Dense minerals within natural stone act almost like a suit of armour, warding off scratches, heat damage, and stains. Manufactured stones boast further fortification through added resins. As long as properly sealed and maintained, stone benchtops should keep their sophisticated polish for decades in Australian homes.
Incorporating Stone Benchtops in Newcastle
Stone benchtops pair beautifully with most colour schemes, materials, and architectural styles across the Newcastle area. For contemporary spaces, a polished white quartzite island makes a light and airy statement against modern cabinetry. In traditional homes, granite countertops with rich brown and crimson veining call to mind a stately atmosphere.
Marble, limestone, or concrete benchtops help bridge old and new in renovated Victorian properties around Newcastle. Beyond the kitchen, a bathroom’s slabs of rugged bluestone or sandstone create an organic spa-like retreat. There is truly a stone to suit any design vision.
Conclusion
With Newcastle homeowners increasingly seeking to incorporate natural elements into their living spaces, the demand for stone benchtops has rapidly risen. From the robustness of granite to the sleek look of engineered quartz, stone imparts sophistication and a sense of timelessness to kitchen and bathroom design. Unmatched aesthetically and in durability when properly maintained, natural and manufactured stone benchtops promise to remain a staple in Newcastle interiors for decades.

The Eco-Friendly Choice: Sustainable Benefits of Natural Stone Benchtops
Making environmentally friendly decisions for our houses is more crucial than ever in a time when sustainability is a top priority.
Let me introduce you to natural stone benchtops: a classic, eco-friendly solution that blends sustainability and elegance. The advantages of natural stone benchtops become even more apparent as we work to adopt greener living practices and lessen our carbon footprint.
We'll go into the benefits of using natural stone benchtops Sydney for your kitchen or bathroom that are sustainable in this article.
The Environmental Impact of Natural Stone
Natural stone has no effect on the environment and is a renewable resource, such as granite and marble. It is extracted from quarries using comparatively low-energy techniques, which lowers carbon emissions, in contrast to manufactured materials. With many enterprises putting in place methods to reduce waste and restore landscapes after extraction, quarrying practices are becoming more and more sustainable. Natural stone also needs less processing and chemical treatment, which lessens its environmental impact.
Low Carbon Footprint
When compared to synthetic alternatives, the production of natural stone benchtops results in comparatively lower carbon emissions. The extraction and polishing of stone slabs is the main energy-intensive industrial activity involved in the process. In addition, technological developments in quarrying and shipping logistics keep productivity high and environmental impact low. Homeowners can reduce carbon emissions during the manufacturing and transportation phases by choosing natural stone benchtops.
Durability and Longevity
Natural stone—like granite or quartzite—is well known for its ability to tolerate abrasions and withstand rigorous use. Natural stone benchtops last, reducing the need for disposal and replacement. On the other hand, synthetic materials would need to be replaced more frequently owing to damage or degradation. Furthermore, their classic appeal goes beyond fads, guaranteeing that they will be in style and in demand for years to come.
Healthier Indoor Air Quality
Because natural stone benchtops are non-toxic, they help to improve the quality of indoor air. In contrast to some synthetic materials, natural stone is inert and does not off-gas. This implies that it keeps your home free of allergies and dangerous substances, fostering a healthier and safer environment for you and your family.
Recyclability and Reusability of Natural Stone
Natural stone and marble benchtops can be recycled or used for other purposes, unlike synthetic materials that. Natural stone provides a variety of solutions for reducing waste and prolonging its lifecycle. It includes recycling stone shards into aggregate for building or repurposing benchtops for other surfaces. Homeowners support a circular economy by adopting natural stone's recyclability and reusability.

choosing the Perfect Natural Stone: Tips from Sydney's Experts
Choosing the right natural stone for your construction or renovation project can be difficult, even for designers. Many options are available, including different grain patterns, fossil details, colors, and finishes. These options come in sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic types. Local geology affects cost and availability. Characteristics such as hardness and porosity determine suitable applications. Where do you begin?
This blog shares tips from Sydney's top natural stone suppliers Sydney on how to narrow down your choices. When choosing stones for residential or commercial spaces, it's important to consider various factors. This applies to sandstone, granite, limestone, travertine, bluestone, marble, and other unique Australian natural stones. Let’s demystify the process of identifying that ideal surface material.
Consider Local Sydney & Australian Stones First
Construction projects in Sydney benefit greatly from using local materials like sandstone, limestone, granite, marble, and bluestone. These materials are quarried in New South Wales and other parts of Australia, so there's no need to import them. Sourcing locally helps cut costs and environmental impact. It also highlights the beauty of the continent's nature.
Sydney is built on Triassic sandstone. This Sandstone Sydney is used for architectural feature walls, building facades, landscaping, and decorative touches. It is a local sedimentary stone. Australian granite, marble, bluestone, and travertine have unique fossilized history and vibrant colors. They are perfect for stunning statement installations.
Factor in Porosity
When choosing natural stone, think about its porosity or absorption rate. This measures the tiny holes on the surface. Granite and marble are very dense stones. They have a score of under 0.5%. This makes them highly resistant to water, stains, and scratches. They are perfect for kitchen countertops. Sandstone, limestone, and travertine are porous sedimentary types. They need sealing in wet areas to prevent damage.
Natural Stone Suppliers Sydney offer materials that are great for pool coping, patios, walls, and flooring. They work well because they can be sealed and have drainage materials underneath to prevent problems from exposure. Just steer clear using them for direct food preparation spaces. If desired for beauty, apply an impregnating sealer regularly.
Determine Hardness Rating
Along with porosity, a stone’s hardness determines appropriate applications. This durability indicator rates resistance to scrapes, chips and typical wear. Diamond set as a 10 is the most waterproof. Stones under 7 require careful installation locations avoiding high impact.
Hard yet porous options like travertine (3-4) need quality sealing for wet settings. Soft marble below 5 won’t endure outdoors but creates polished indoor elegance. Other stones like practical granite (7+) combine decent hardness and densities for versatile residential/commercial use.
ConsiderThickness & Weight
Factor in a stone’s weight per square unit and available dimensions/thicknesses. Lighter portable stones work better for vertical installations or where underlying support limits total weight capacity. Large dramatic slabs also require greater reinforcement compared to smaller tile formats.
Know realistic sizing options for your material to understand fastening needs. Work with Sandstone Supplier Sydney able to cut, fabricate & reinforce selections in available factory dimensions or through customized fabrication processes to achieve your vision. Understanding stone weight practicalities results in smart planning.
Conclusion
When choosing natural stone for your projects in Sydney, it's important to consider factors like suitability and visual impact. That's why it's a good idea to consult reputable local stone suppliers like Stonexpress. They offer premium Australian natural stone for residential, commercial, and civic projects of any size.

How to Lower the Cost of Bathroom Renovation in Sydney
There are several reasons why homeowners choose to renovate their bathrooms. Some of these include wanting more functionality, changing lifestyles, or updating the look of an old room. However, bathroom renovation can be a costly task. Depending on the size of the room and the type of fittings and materials, the cost of bathroom renovation sydney  can range from a few thousand dollars to a few hundred thousand. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to save money.
The first step in a successful bathroom renovation is to determine your budget and stick to it. Then, you can pick out fittings and products that fit within your budget and still provide the look and feel of your new space. While some people might decide to do it themselves, hiring a professional is often the best way to get the most out of a renovation.
Bathroom designers can help you make the most of your renovation by guiding you through the various options. In Sydney, bathroom designers can charge between $500 and $4,000 for their services, but the cost will vary depending on the scope of the project.
You may also need the services of an architect. They can help you with things like moving walls, and re-planning the layout of the room. Other services include plumbing and drainage, and installing a custom cabinet. If your bathroom is located in an apartment building, the management might require that you hire only licensed bathroom renovators to complete the job.
An electrician is also a necessary trade. During a bathroom renovation, they can install any electrical component that is required. He or she will need to install switches and wiring, as well as lighting. Typically, electricians in Sydney can charge $75 to $100 per hour.
Choosing the right tile and countertops can also influence the cost of your renovation. Ceramic and porcelain tiles are typically the most popular choices. However, granite and marble are more durable and can cost more. It is also important to choose the right paint for your bathroom. A professional will know the most effective way to apply the paint, as ordinary paint won't work in a bathroom.
Sealants can also protect your new bathroom from leaks and decay. They are also useful for protecting adjoining rooms. This is especially true if your bathroom has no wall tile.
Another factor that can impact the cost of your renovation is the amount of work that is involved. For example, removing old tiles is a significant task. Plumbing and drainage will need to be re-routed and jack-hammering a concrete slab to make room for the new pipes will be a labour intensive process.
Adding in extra features and fittings can also raise the price of your bathroom renovation. One example is upgrading to a freestanding bathtub. Freestanding bathtubs will cost more than a bath shower/bathroom combination.
Although the cost of bathroom renovation sydney cost varies from place to place, the average amount of money spent is between $20,000 and $35,000 in Sydney. But, before you embark on a major renovation, it is worth considering your budget and the time it will take to complete the job. Also, keep in mind that unforeseen issues can arise during the process. These problems can be as simple as a clogged toilet, to more complex such as structurally weak floors.

Kitchen Makeovers in Sydney
The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in your home. It’s where you cook, eat and spend time with your family.
A kitchen makeover is an excellent way to turn your kitchen into a space you love and will use every day. However, it is also a significant investment and needs careful planning.
Cabinets
The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in any home. It’s where people spend a lot of time and it should be a place that is pleasant and useful.
Getting your cabinets right is essential to make your kitchen more functional and aesthetically pleasing. Whether you’re replacing your existing cabinets or adding a new set, there are many things to consider.
When choosing your new kitchen cabinets, it’s a good idea to select high quality materials. You want to be sure that your kitchen will be able to withstand wear and tear for years to come.
The team at Balnei & Colina renovations Sydney recommend steering clear of natural timbers for your cabinets. This is because natural timbers are porous and absorptive. They’re also subject to expansion and contraction when the temperature changes.
Countertops
If you're thinking about kitchen makeovers in sydney, countertops are an important aspect to consider. They can help set the stage for your kitchen design and add a touch of luxury to your home.
Countertops can be made from a variety of materials, including solid surface, quartz, ceramic tile, and laminate. They can also be custom shaped to your kitchen's design needs.
A durable countertop is a great investment for your kitchen because it can withstand a lot of wear and tear from everyday use. It should also be resistant to burns and stains.
In addition to being functional, countertops can be made of a variety of materials that will add value to your home. These include engineered quartz, granite, and butcher block. They also come in a variety of colors, styles, and finishes. It's a good idea to consult with an expert to decide which material will best suit your lifestyle and budget. The right countertops can add a significant amount of value to your home and increase its appeal to potential buyers.
  Backsplashes
Backsplashes are an essential part of any kitchen, not only for their functionality but also as a design element. They help protect the walls from spills and stains, while adding a pop of color and visual interest to your kitchen.
While backsplashes are traditionally made from ceramic tile, other materials can be used in modern kitchens as well. Some popular options include glass, stainless steel, and stone slabs.
Regardless of the material chosen, backsplashes should be clean and easy to maintain. They should also be able to withstand abrasions and scratches, as they are typically exposed to intense heat during cooking.
Another important aspect to consider is the overall cost of the project. The cost of backsplashes can vary widely, depending on the materials and complexity of the project.
Flooring
Choosing the right flooring for your kitchen is a crucial step in ensuring your new space looks and feels great. This is because the kitchen will see plenty of wear and tear from daily use and can become a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, so finding something durable, easy to clean, and beautiful is important.
Depending on your tastes and your kitchen’s layout, there are many different options for flooring. For example, wood is a coveted choice for most homeowners because it can give a classic feel to the room and also adds durability to its overall aesthetic.
Floor tiles are another popular choice for a kitchen, ranging in colours and designs to suit all tastes. These tiles can be both manmade and natural, making them highly versatile and practical for any kitchen.

Granite for Your Countertop – Tips To Choose the Right One
Tumblr media
For good reason, granite is one of the most popular countertop materials. Aside from its durability, it comes in an almost infinite variety of colours and styles, making it simple to match with any type of cabinets and appliances. Here, we have mentioned a few tips to choose the granite slabs Sydney. Match the cabinets to the granite Granite and cabinets can be paired in two ways: matching the colour or matching the veining and marbling. The first step is to select granite from a granite slabs supplier Sydney and the granite should be the same colour as your cabinets but has heavier veining. White cabinets, for example, look stunning with White Spring granite, which has grey, black, and brocade veins. Choose a stone with colour veins that complement your cabinetry if you want a granite with a contrasting colour. Espresso cabinets would look great with the same White Spring granite. It may also be useful to look at popular granite countertop and cabinetry combinations from granite supplier Sydney. Here are some suggestions: - Grey, beige, and white granite complement the neutral medium-brown wood cabinetry. - Cabinets in light to medium wood with contrasting granite such as Black Pearl - Green granite with dark brown cabinetry - Verde Peacock, and white granite complement cherry cabinets. Choose whether you want light or dark granite There are a few factors to consider while deciding between light and dark granite. Light-coloured granite, in general, is excellent for tiny kitchens since it expands the area. Light-coloured granite might also make your kitchen feel larger if it doesn't get much natural light. Grey and black granite provide a striking aesthetic that pairs well with white or light cabinets in modern kitchens. Brown and beige are the most versatile hues, as they go with practically every kitchen design. Select an exclusive granite pattern You can choose a pattern for your granite in addition to a colour. Solid, speckled, and marbled granite are the three most common patterns. Solid granite's design is highly consistent making it a suitable choice for smaller kitchens where a busy pattern might make the space feels claustrophobic. The shift between texture and colour in marbled granite is quite smooth. Speckled granite is a popular alternative with a lot of colour and texture diversity that's perfect for making a statement, accenting plain cabinets, or adding interest to stainless-steel equipment. Tile or slab granite Finally, you must determine whether you want tile granite or a full slab of granite.
