When Life Hands You Lemons, Get Your Nails Done
Written By The Session TV Show Host - Kia Renee
Hey gals! Don’t you just hate having bad nails? Even worse, don’t you just hate when you thought your mani-pedi would come out perfect, but it was the exact opposite? Let me tell you about my lemons. So, for the past six years I visited a nail salon that started out okay, but ended tragically. I say it ended tragically because the work, atmosphere, employees, and even the nail polish rack became outdated. There were no trends! The manicurist spoke in different languages and there was a new staff every week. I mean come on. Ladies we all think that when our nail tech begins speaking in a different language after you turn down the deluxe pedicure and eyebrow wax that it’s definitely about you, right? Right.
One thing about us women is that it’s difficult to find the right nail tech. It’s like when you finally find the right salon you can’t go anywhere else. You only trust one person to trim your hair. Just as well you only want one person taking care of your hands, nails, and feet. I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. The Rock being my nail tech and The Hard Place was the nail salon.  I needed a new place to call my nail home, but a girl has standards. I’ve outgrown what I was used to. New me, new career, better shoes. I wanted a grand nail salon. I needed a nail salon that spoke to my new ways of life and personality. A nail salon that was upscale. This is what I pictured when thinking of my perfect nail salon.
At this point I’m daydreaming with that little voice that narrates what I want my entire luxurious experience to be like:
“Oh, where is a girl to go for a fabulous mani-pedi? A nail salon that greets me with a smile and a mimosa, a nail salon with pedicure chairs fit for a queen and doesn’t smell of acrylic. A nail salon with the latest in gel polishes and trendy nail shapes, (voice climax for extra effect) A nail salon that fits my style and is affordable, A place where a girl can enjoy a lavender foot scrub. Oh, where can it be?” Daydream ends.
Okay. I may be a little dramatic, but isn’t that what we look for when comes to being pampered. We work hard and need a little relaxation time. Well, my daydream prayer was answered. Owner of Nail Garden and Hair Studio, Marianne Tadros, reached out to me via Linked In. She must have heard me narrating that story in my head. She invited me out to experience her salon. I was fired up! The salon originated in Los Angeles, California. They decided it was time to open a location in Houston, Texas. Nail Garden and Hair  Studio was exactly like my daydream prayer, but better! I was greeted as soon as I opened Nail Garden and Hair Studio’s door by a lovely young lady. She offered me water, mimosa, or wine. I was impressed and of course I got the wine. Behind the front desk is literally what imitates a garden that reads “Nail Garden”. It was so different. It was fabulous branding.  I immediately walked over to the polish rack and I died on the scene from perfect nail polish rack exposure. Nudes, metallics, pastels, bright colors, glitters, gel polishes! They have it all! I was falling in love already.  The manager, Jessica Darby gave my manager Cam Jefferson and I a tour of the salon. Nail Garden and Hair  Studio’s colors are white with hints of silver and marble counter tops. Big chairs fit for a queen and perfect for taking selfies if I may say so myself. Jessica explained all of the service they offer. They offer Hair services, facials, eyebrow threading and waxing, lash and eyebrow tinting, makeup, mani-pedi, and full sets. Aaahhh… It sounded like angels singing.
Now it was time for the pedicure. Oh, my gosh it was perfect. I got that lavender foot scrub and a massage. And I mean a real massage. My feet were so soft. So soft that I felt I needed to put on protective shoes. My pedicurist was very friendly. We were chatting and I found out she was from Egypt. She had a soft and sweet personality. I told her she is the best person in the world for what she has done for me. Next it was nail time. So I admit that because I was looking for a new salon my nails were busted. I needed a either a manicure or a refill. The color was faded silver and my cuticles needed trimming. I also wanted to try a new shape but shied away from it because I didn’t trust my last nail tech with that responsibility. But I took a chance because of the way my experience was already going. I knew it would be perfect and it was. I was given the Almond shaped nails and as I got my refill there was no smell of acrylic. Nail Garden and Hair Studio uses a machine the gets rid of all the toxic odors from the acrylic. Another daydream prayer answered. For my polish we used the Kiarasky CEO Gel nail polish and it was gorgeous. It’s a mix between nude and rust. Kind of like a medium brown color. Needless to say I loved it all. Life handed me lemons. So I got my nails done the right way.
I finally found my daydream nail salon. I even looked up the reviews online and I agree with all of the great feedback. I will forever be a repeat customer. Once you find a nail salon with great customer service and even better work there is no point in looking any further. Unless you want mediocre. I’m just saying.
I encourage all of you that are reading this to blog post to set your appointment at the Nail Garden and Hair Studio today. Walk-Ins are also welcome. Everyone wants to be pampered like the queen and king they are. Exceptional service is must. That’s what you will receive at Nail Garden and Hair Studio. Call today to book your appointment or if you have questions. Call (832) 397-6259 or visit the website at www.nailgardenhouston.com. If you want to pop in for that mani- pedi the address is 12341 FM 1960, Houston, Tx. 77065. Tell Jessica Darby that Kia Renee sent you!

The 2nd Annual Community Christmas Toy Drive Brings Smiles To Kids In Need
On Saturday, December 10, 2016, The Session TV Show held its 2nd Annual Community Christmas Toy Drive at Houston’s legendary Breakfast Klub restaurant.. Although it was chillingly cold, it didn't stop us from getting out there to collect toys for the 22nd Annual Toys For the Kids Holiday Party. At 10am The Breakfast Klub had a line wrapped around the corner and we were wrapping our scarves around our necks. We were cheerfully greeted by Mary, a Breakfast Klub employee, with a smile and even big personality. She offered us coffee as we gift wrapped our donation box that all donated toys would go into. As we sat at our table covered with a black table cloth and flyers, our first donator, Cynthia, drove up with a trunk full of toys. She had seen our promotions on The Session Facebook page (TheSession365) and bought five toys to fill our box. She expressed how great it was that we were giving back to a great cause. She said, "Sorry I'm late, but I had to pick up toys from the store." I said to her, "You're right on time!". I had to hug her because of her generous donation and bubbly spirit. We took a photo of us holding a couple of toys she had brought. The day was off to a good start. "Hey! I'm on the way.", said Requial. She has also reviewed the promotions on my Public Figure Facebook page. She arrived within thirty minutes with two musical keyboards. A blue one for a boy and pink one for a girl. She said, "It's not much, but I had to give something." I proudly said, "This is more than enough! The children will absolutely love this! Thank you!". Our last donation really set the tone! Tammy Knight, Area Director for The College of Healthcare Professions, asked for a little help with her donation. I was immediately excited to see what she had brought to our 2nd Annual Community Christmas Toy Drive. A big box in the trunk of car was filled with toys and coloring books. Eleven to be exact! It took two of us to carry it back to our donation table. She also brought us chocolate chip cookies! I began to get emotional due to how much support the community is sharing. Donating to the 2nd Annual Community Christmas Toy Drive and the 22nd Annual Toys For the Kids Holiday Party. It's overwhelming to know that Houston supports its community and families in need. Thank you to The Breakfast Klub for being our venue sponsor and for your wonderful hospitality. Special thanks to all of lovely women that donated to our 2nd Annual Community Christmas Toy Drive and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee's 22nd Annual Toys For the Kids Holiday Party. We appreciate all of your support during this holiday season. Thank you Tammy Buster (Area Director for The College of Health Care Professions) for donations and cookies! My Manager Cam and I enjoyed them! We look forward to the community each and really look for to assisting as many families as possible.

On Saturday, September 17, 2016 The Session TV Show covered the 2016 Houston's Black Heritage Music and Arts Festival at Discovery Green. The festival is all about music, arts, and culture. Family and friends gathered at the event for a day packed full of fun and live entertainment. Upon our arrival we notice that the events entry line was wrapped around the corner. The attendees waited patiently  for the doors to open. After media check in, we were escorted into the festivals main stage area. As the stage was being set up,  I was immediately preparing myself for the excitement that was about to happen. Matthew Knowles, Tami Roman, Jazz a female hip hop artist and Tami Roman and Grammy Award winner Monica were all in attendance.  As I interviewed Tami Roman and her daughter Jazz, I learned a lot about the  work she does in the community. Tami Roman’s daughter Jazz, also has started a foundation where she gives scholarships to high school girls. After our interview Chris Boykins owner of Glory Fitness and his team hit the stage to show the everyone some Hip Hop Step Aerobics. The crowd stepped and had a blast. I had a great time watching the selected honorees including Kim Roxie, owner of Lamik Beauty  accepted their certificates. As we walked throughout the festival, we spoke with several vendors that were in health and wellness industry..  The Houston Rockets showcased their basketball goal station and allowed kids and adults to enjoy a quick game.  The highlight of the event was the last performance by Grammy Award winner R&B singer Monica. She took the crowd back in time with oldies but goodies and her new music from her latest album, Code Red. The 2016 Houston's Black Heritage Music and Arts Festival is day I will never forget!  Thank you to LaTorria Lemon for inviting The Session TV Show to such an amazing and inspiring event!

JOY WILLIAMS- THE DEFINITION OF HEALTHY HAIR
On a beautiful Saturday morning I had the pleasure of interviewing my beautiful, well- educated personal hairstylist and owner of J.W. Salon, Joy Williams. From the moment I met her I knew she was special. From the way she spoke to the way she carried herself. I could hear her love for healthy hair in her voice as we talked about her goals and aspirations. J.W. Salon has been creating healthy hair from root to tip since 2010. I say creating healthy hair because Joy is certified in Trichology. "Trich" is the Greek word for hair. Trichology is medical and cosmetic study and practice concerned with the hair and scalp. In layman’s terms it is the study of how the hair functions, how the body works and how this affects your hair. As I sit in J.W. Salon's beauty chair made for a queen with white leather and silver accents she explains her future plans for herself and her salon.
Joy explains that being a certified Trichologist, she is able to grow the hair of people who suffered from major hair loss. Her goal is to help those that were affected by Cancer, to give the a fresh start and empower them. She explains that the treatments aren't just applied topically. It starts from the inside as well. Her frequently asked questions to her clients are always about their diet, if they are taking medications, and are they suffering from any digestive issues. Joy always says what you put in your body determines the life and growth your hair. Who knew? Before my interview with Joy I had no idea that we shed 80 to 120 hairs a day. I gasped. She laughed and said it's completely normal.
Having studied under Dr. Rodney Barnett who has 25 years in the business and owns a salon in Dallas, Texas, Joy is in the process of opening her Hair Restoration and Wellness Center. Her center will be dedicated to educating and empowering those who've had the unfortunate experience of hair loss. She also wants to franchise her business, teach and employ others, and become a staple in the cosmetic industry. I can truly say that Joy Williams does a fabulous job with creating and maintaining healthy hair. I should know. My hair looks and feels the best it's ever been. It so soft and shiny. It's grown three inches in a matter of two months. I honestly can't stop myself from running my fingertips through my hair. Thank you Joy Williams and J.W.Salon for being a brilliant hairstylist. Not only to me, but also to the community. Thank you for giving us women and men the hair we've dreamed of! Stay tuned for part two of my article about Joy Williams being a triple threat. She's making big moves in the movie industry and makeup business.

All of the back packs were sponsored by Community Health Choice and the College of Health Care Professions.   During the event Kia Renee to several photo ops with the youth and gave words of encouragement to them all as she handed them their back packs. On Sunday July 31st, The Session TV Show covered the 13th Annual Sneaker Summit summer event at the NRG Center. The Sneaker Summit is an event where thousands of people come from all over the country to buy, sell, or trade their latest and vintage sneakers. As we,The Session, walked into the NRG Center we noticed thousands of people waiting in line at the entrance to the Sneaker Summit with shoe boxes, duffle bags, and roll-able carts in hand.  With over 5,000 people expected to attend, the Sneaker Summit spared no expense to  keep the vendors and spectators entertained.  With several vendors on hand, the Monster Energy Trader's Lounge was the biggest of them all. Sneaker heads were able to buy, sell, and trade their sneakers in an isolated area all while enjoying free cold beverages provided by Monster Energy.
In addition to the Trader's Lounge, Monster Energy served the crowd a B-Boy dance crew that  gave a spectacular  break dance performance that drew crowds from across the venue. Raffles, giveaways, and fun games were provided by Metro PCS and the Houston Rockets. I was amazed by the culture of sneakers. There were people of all ages at the Sneaker Summit who were brought together because of their love of sneakers. We had the chance to interview a Sneaker Summit vendor, RGV Sole, to get an understanding of how the buy, sell, and trades work. From balancing shoes on their heads to holding boxes of shoes in the air, vendors created  very interesting ways to gain a sale or trade.
The Session TV Show provided media coverage for the entire event, as well as our host Kia Renee secured great interviews with Houston rappers Bun-B, Propain, Slim Thug, C-Stone The Breadwinner, and Trae The Truth. Bryan Angelle, Creative Director of Sneaker Summit, established this event in 2004. Since the birth of the event it has  grown to be the longest running community based sneaker event.  As we interviewed Bryan on the Sneaker Summit main stage in front of thousands of people, I asked him about his passion for sneakers, what influenced him to put an event of this magnitude together and how many pairs of sneakers he owned. He answered," This event is great because students can come here to make money and have legitimate conversations with the stars about the same shared passion. I don't know how many pairs of shoes I have. I am no longer a collector.  I am now a hoarder." What I took away from his interview is that if you love something dearly put your all into it and make it big. Thank you Bryan Angelle for having The Session be a media liaison for the Sneaker Summit and for opening my world to a new culture.
