Last year I bought the Vixen by Micheline Pitt rendition of Sarah's blouse and vest, and I knew eventually I'd have to get over my camera shyness to do a photoshoot with it. Luckily for me the wonderful Megan Shickard of Megan's Marvelous Photography was up to the task of corralling me in said photoshoot.
And ya'll let me tell you, I was an absolute mess that day. First off, it turns out I'm allergic to wig glue! I had to frantically run out and get some allergy meds while asking Megan if we could move the photo session to a later time (Which she so kindly did). BUT THEN, I completely goofed up and mis-remembered the time of our new photoshoot, and only realised my mistake when Megan was very kindly messaging to check up on me. Thankfully, Megan had yet another opening later that day, and despite all the chaos I was causing we were able to make some magic happen (I say we, but really this was primarily Megan's doing).
Thank you so, so much Megan for all of your patience, especially after the huge headache I must've been for you that day! Megan will be moving to the UK later this year, so if anyone there is interested in trying out a new cosplay photographer I can highly recommend her (Also, I'd recommend testing how your skin reacts to wig glue BEFORE you're just about to leave the house to go to your photoshoot).
Shout-out to the wonderful GraphitePusher who made my replica of Sarah's brooch!

HYELLO TUMBLR.
I am... not as active on here as I should be, but I am trying to use whatever socials I have in my limited platform.
Here is an updated commissions price list and announcement that, yes, my commissions are open for the new year. I have some increased expenses this year, including some affirming surgery, and it would be the biggest boon in the world if I could manage to save for these things.
I work full-time and that job barely keeps the bills paid, but I've had enough things happen the last couple years that my savings really doesn't exist, so I can't really anticipate for more emergency expenses (usually my car, sometimes healthcare).
These are all guidelines and examples for base pricing. I try to put some value into my skill in terms of money, but I am always willing to work with someone and be flexible. NSFW and spicy is accepted, within reason.
(Please note: sketch cards are all 5x7 chipboard)
Message me, email me; you can find me almost everywhere under the same handle.
LOVE YOU.

Wow, that post rubbed me wrong. I genderbend a LOT. In fact, all of my costumes (current and future) except two are genderbent. Mostly because, due to issues growing up and being teased a lot as a kid, I have some massive insecurities when it comes to the idea of crossplaying. That, and I'm not a really badass lady, but cosplaying badass characters, and being female, is really really empowering for me and a huge confidence boost.
^
That.
I too cosplay to feel empowered, whether the character originated male or female. Part of this is gender identity issues, part of this is personal preference.
I do not like the insinuation that genderbenders are in any way damaging the community or female representation. Firstly on a large scale that is just factually inaccurate. Secondly, it shits on people who do this to feel better about themselves, to feel empowered, and enjoy themselves.

"CELEBRATE! CELEBRATE!" And a very Dalek X-Mas, to you!
I don't know why, but as soon as I got this holiday challenge with monsters in my inbox, I had to push to get something done (for once!). It instantly popped into my head how ridiculous it would be for a Dalek to wear a Santa hat. So, here it is. X-Mas on the Dalek ship.
Paper texture added in Photoshop; 2H and HB graphite on 70lb drawing paper. Enjoy! ♥

Your costume write-ups are utterly wonderful. I absolutely love reading on historical costuming in film, but I have found too many blogs just rip apart something, instead of politely educating. It's incredibly refreshing.
Thank you so much!
I approach movie costume analysis (in writing, anyway) from the perspective that it gives me an opportunity to reach people who might otherwise not be as interested in what I have to say, so I don’t want my subtext to be “and you’re dumb for liking that wrong thing.” Movie inaccuracies leading to widespread misconceptions about historical fashion are a much bigger deal to me than just Doing It Wrong. Costume designers have to deal with producers and directors nixing their ideas - the idea of saying or implying that all inaccuracies are down to ignorance bothers me.
Also, I’m incredibly contrary. When everyone is saying, “those costumes are terrible, the designer didn’t know what she was doing,” it makes me want to point out that conscious decisions were made to get a specific look. When everyone is saying, “inaccuracies don’t matter at all,” I feel the urge to pontificate about why movies should strive for complete accuracy. (When everyone is saying, “this is perfect,” I’m like “let me tell you a thing,” but that doesn’t happen as often.)

The older I get the more camera shy I've gotten, but I bought myself a rendition of Sarah's vest and blouse from Vixen by Micheline Pitt and I had to get at least one cool photo of me wearing it! Thankfully my recent helmet build is the cure for any photo anxiety. I like to think this is what Sarah would've done had she had a bit more time at the end of her journey, curiously investigating the weird world she's found herself in.
I'm really impressed by the quality of the vest and blouse from Vixen, technically they aren't 100% movie accurate but they sure look the part (And hey, they saved me the trouble of having to sew my own!). It's hard to see in the photo but the brooch I'm using came from the very talented graphitepusher on Instagram. In hindsight I wish I had photographed myself from the left side so their brooch would've been more visible because they did a fantastic job with it.
Fun fact, but I took this shot by tethering my computer to my camera so I could take photos by tapping my mouse with my foot while holding the pose.

I’m starting a Discord.
I’ve never used the platform before, but I have serveral classes that do, so I figured I’d test it out as a space.
It looks like I’d be able to do livestreams here, via screensharing. It also seems like a fun chat space. Please feel free to join, check out, drop some messages.

Hi there. I hope you don't mind my asking, but my friend and I are making our own Thor/Loki costumes and I'm having a really hard time figuring out just what to search for in finding the silver studding for the "scalemail" panels we want to put in. So, my question is this: for the scalemail work of Fahr's Jotunheim coat you did, what did you use, or where can I order something similar in bulk? I know some costumers don't like to share, so I get it if you'd prefer not to answer. :)
Nope, don’t mind you asking. I’m always up for sharing tips with anyone who’s interested. :)
I used plastic beads very similar to these. Unfortunately I bought them in a store, not online, so I can’t provide a source for you. My ebay search only brought up this one listing, but you may be able to find something similar in a craft/fabric store.
The ones I used for Fahrlight’s coat were originally a hideous metallic yellow-green, and I painted them silver. So you can buy these things in whatever color you can find and paint them.
Hope that helps!

graphitepusher said: I don’t want to touch that crappy-looking movie with a ten-foot pole. That storyline was all about Rachel Summers sending Kate Pryde to save the day and they made it about Wolverine -.-
I'd argue that it was more Mystique than anything, and I do highly appreciate her. Just... Bryan Singer, man. Why. Just... adapt a comicbook plzkthnx.

Hey, shut up. There is more to me than just Tea and Games references, Ryan
I mean I can't think of anything but you know, it's possible.
graphitepusher said: whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut?
i know right. I've been teaandchess for so long. It isn't the Tea part that will change but the Chess part.
I should take a poll or hold a contest on 'best second part of my blog name'

NO DON'T CRY! I just started out with high hopes for the show and they just kept adding more and more and more. It was like a washing machine with too much detergent. And I'm really upset with the addition of Wizard of Oz and I didn't like Frankenstein. Mostly because neither are fairy tales or Disney, which OUAT spent an entire season establishing that it was. And Wizard of Oz is my favorite since I was two. Please, please don't cry. I still watch it once in a while!
Haha its okay. I'll still watch it and see how I feel about it.

Heeeeey! Did you make your Stuttgart cane? Because I would looooooove one :)
I did make it. There’s a post about it here!
I would easily be able to make one for you, and for cheap, but the shipping would be insane because of its dimensions. But I could possibly make you the top part to attach to your own crappy dollar store broom handle. Lemme know if you’re interested. :)
