So the last two days have been pretty rough for everyone here in The States and for me as well.  And when the going gets tough, the tough turn to comfort food. YOUR NEXT TUMBLR ART CHALLENGE IS...THE BREAKFAST CLUB! You can interpret this one of two ways: 1.  Either do your interpretation of a famous breakfast cereal mascot (Tony the Tiger, Tucan Sam, Lucky, Frankenberry, etc.) or 2.  Draw some killer "Breakfast Club" fan art, preferably while listening to Simple Minds or Wang Chung. You have until Sunday, May 5 to post your art.  If you post it after that, well, hmm.  I'll get back to you on that.

A little late this week because of work and life and stuff. But since I’m the admin, I just granted myself an extension since I was the one who came up with the deadline in the first place. It’s funny how you really don’t have to stick to self-imposed, arbitrary deadlines. I’ll keep that in mind when I’m in line for four hours at the airport later this week.

Anyway, this week’s theme was “Film Noir Fairy Tales” and it looks like ol’ Humpty Dumpty’s in a bit of a fix. Enjoy! - Isaac

Okay, so this is what I turned in in my class (I pulled this assignment from my Digital Imaging class a couple semesters ago). I wasn't entirely happy with it, and still wish to go back and re-do it at some point, but I just haven't had the time.

My professor did a lottery with our fairy tales. He had everyone write down one on a piece of paper, then handed them back out at random. I got (obviously) Little Red Riding Hood. I think Noir and I go to 40s detective movies and stuff. I didn't want to go as far back as Dr. Calgari for my noir feeling. Nevertheless, I decided to do complete photomanipulation for this assignment as opposed to painting anything. This is a total of five photos (figure, hat, light, wall, and wolf) pieced together and edited to hell.

It's not the best thing I've done, but I really wanted to get something up. Even if it's a bit recycled, it's still an entry.

I thought I would go ahead and post the next challenge theme early.  

Two weeks ago, the fantastic Angel Patten (graphitepusher.tumblr.com) sent me a bunch of great suggestions and this theme is one of them!

Your next Tumblr art challenge theme is: Film Noir Fairy Tales or "The Dame Wore Red."

This one is pretty self-explanatory: everybody loves film noir and everybody loves fairy tales.  They're like Peanut Butter and Jelly or Snooki and JWoww: they're great on their own but together, well, things will probably get out of hand pretty quick and someone might have to call the cops.  Also, just to make things interesting, there's one minor restriction: you can only use three colors and two of those colors are black and white.  The obvious choice for the third color is red but maybe you can think of something better.  Something different.

Howdy, Folks!

I thought of this next theme about a month ago and I’ve been waiting with baited breath to see it brought to life by a cabal of talented and unique artists (i.e. you guys).  

This week’s theme is simple:  LOVE STINKS!

I want each of you to take the various conventions of Valentine’s Day (i.e. Cupid, greeting cards, roses, etc.), romantic comedies, and/or cheesy and often problematic 50’s-60’s romance comics and tear them apart.   This is where get to let it all out in a cathartic dirge of bitterness and spite.

A little late this week due to an unexpected onset of sports-related heartbreak.  Anyway, this week's theme was "David Lynch" and while I was going to do something surprising and unexpected, in the end I just went with "Dune," which is easily my favorite David Lynch film and one of my favorite films of all time and has probably my favorite soundtrack of all time.  Seriously, try, just try not to get amped up and ready to punch a bear in the mouth after listening to this:
