Tell Me No (M), 1k
tags: character study, masturbation (but not in a porny way), depression/mental illness, no dialogue just eyes and vibes
A short drop into Andrew’s POV during that week after they first kiss on the roof.
Regret is pointless, so Andrew doesn’t indulge in it. But this would all be easier if he didn’t know what Neil’s lips felt like.
He replays the kiss over and over in his mind like an ESPN broadcaster. A slow motion shot of Neil’s eyes falling close. Neil inhaling sharply against Andrew’s lips; rewind, play again, rewind, play again, rewind—
Read it below or on AO3
It would be easier, too, if Neil had pushed him away and said “No.” But he didn’t. He sank into Andrew’s touch, kissed him back, blinked slow and confused when Andrew pulled away. Then he dumped a verbal bucket of ice water over Andrew’s head and left looking lighter on his feet than he had in days.
And what is Andrew supposed to do with this? How is he supposed to train and practice and do homework and live with all this information? How does he shove all of this into a box deep in his mind when Neil keeps fucking staring at him with an intensity unbefitting of a man who “doesn’t swing”?
It’s happening again now.
Andrew gives up on the practice test he’d been working on and stands up from his desk, crossing the room to grab a beer from the fridge. Andrew refuses to look toward where Neil is sitting in a bean bag next to Nicky, surrounded by his Spanish notes, but he can feel Neil’s eyes on him. He digs in one of the drawers for the fox-paw shaped bottle opener — because heaven forbid they have an object in the dorm not on theme — then pops the cap off and tosses it into the trash.
Andrew leans his hip against the counter as he brings the bottle to his lips, finally letting himself turn toward the living room. Neil is still looking at him. He doesn’t react when Andrew meets his gaze, doesn’t bristle or blush or avert his eyes. He just keeps looking and spinning a highlighter in his hand. Andrew’s seen Neil lose his temper, he knows Neil is a minefield of potential explosives, but there’s nothing dangerous in his stare. Actually, that’s a lie — everything about Neil is dangerous to Andrew. But Neil looks at him, and there’s nothing predatory about it. He’s just seeing him.
Andrew is suddenly aware of the coolness of the beer bottle on his lips, a stark contrast to the heat of Neil’s lips. Rewind, play again. He lets his eyes slide over to the game Nicky is playing and pretends Neil has gone back to his homework. When he finishes his drink, he drops the bottle facedown in the sink and goes to bed.
It’s worse in the dark and quiet. Devoid of distraction, his mind engages in make-believe. It would be easier if he didn’t know what Neil’s lips felt like, because now he’s gotten greedy. Now he can’t lie to himself — he wants.
Andrew wants to know what Neil tastes like. When they kissed, his tongue would have been bitter from the shitty McDonald’s coffee he’d inhaled on the way back from Alpharetta. Andrew could smell it on his breath. Right now, Neil probably tastes like Aaron’s mango sorbet that he stole from their freezer.
He wants to know if Neil would gasp again if Andrew tugged at his hair, if his hand trailed down the mangled lines of Neil’s chest and dipped below his waistband.
Andrew dips his own hand below his own waistband, and it’s far less of a curiosity. It’s crushingly mundane.
His memory offers up the feeling of his palm pressed against Neil’s torso. He remembers the feel of each scar against his hand — the gravel of burns, the crooked lines of badly stitched cuts, the perfectly round raised circles within the brand of an iron. Andrew wonders if it would be different, getting off with his hands on Neil’s one-of-a-kind skin.
Andrew wants to know what Neil sounds like when he comes. Would he be choked and breathy? Would he be loud? Would he moan and keen, or would he bite out cutting words with hot breath, like he does on the court?
Andrew comes before he can decide which would be the worst. As he reaches over for a tissue to wipe off his hand, he thinks it probably doesn’t matter. Andrew is ruined already with just the ten seconds of mental footage he’s already stolen. (Warm lips, sharp breath, a hand clutching his sleeve.)
There’s no point in regret. There’s no acting on any of this suffocating want when Neil has turned down every person who’s ever fluttered their eyelashes in his direction. There is only moving forward. Andrew’s good at that.
He forces himself to stop thinking about Neil, but his vulnerable brain jumps straight to another forbidden topic. He’s overrun with information about tomorrow’s game against Arkansas — about their starting striker (Leon Matthews, 5’11) that always aims for the low corners. He thinks about their offensive dealer (Stella Rodriguez, 5’8) who will spend half the game picking fights.
Andrew feels confident the Foxes will win, but this, too, is a dangerous line of thought. He shouldn’t care. He doesn’t want to want to win. He doesn’t want to want at all. It pokes at something already bruised and broken in his chest that won’t survive another beating.
When there’s no moving forward, there’s shutting down. Andrew’s good at that, too. It’s dark in the room, but there’s a gnarled branch of an oak tree outside the window, silhouetted against the moonlight. He locks his eyes on the bit of branches that form a capital “A,” staring at it until the world around it loses meaning. Eventually, the tree loses meaning too. Eventually, he falls asleep.

3 Things You're Doing Wrong in Your Home Landscape Design
Good landscaping can beautify your home, increase property values, reduce UV sunlight in your home, and so much more. But as helpful as landscaping is to most American homes, it can also be challenging. Experts of landscape design in Alpharetta, GA, see frequent mistakes when people attempt to design their own residential landscaping.
These are the top mistakes that you may be making. Read on to learn why each one is a design error, and what you can do to avoid these mistakes.
Thinking That More Is More
The more lush and heavily designed your garden is, the better, right? This is wrong. You may be doing a disservice to your home--not to mention wasting money--if you crowd your landscaping. First of all, the more there is to see, the less every individual facet of your landscape design stands out. Secondly, too much landscaping just makes a yard look crowded. Even well-tended shrubs and trees will look overgrown if there's too much plant life in a yard. Remember to include the clean and pleasant look of a nice lawn or rock bed. These are simple ways to design more square footage without having to overplant in your yard.
Overwhelming the Architecture
Your home should be the most easily visible feature on your property. This sounds obvious, but many people tend to let their trees and shrubs overwhelm the architecture of their home. Landscaping isn't meant to disguise your house. It's supposed to emphasize its best features. For example, use tall cypress trees to accent pillars and tall walls. Flower beds can frame porches and bay windows. Rounded shrubs are the perfect way to hide outdoor appliances and other unbecoming features.
Relying Too Much on Mulch
Mulch can be a helpful tool for keeping weeds out of flower beds and protecting the base of every tree trunk. However, too much mulch can make your yard look messy. It can also look outdated. Some superior alternatives include gray gravel, garden stones, and ground cover plants--all of which prevent weed growth naturally. You can still use mulch in the occasional flower or tree bed, but try to find hay mulch or soil-colored mulch for a more natural look.
If you have more questions about how to design your lawn and garden, contact local experts of landscape design in Alpharetta, GA. You can get professional design services, skilled installation, landscape maintenance, and so much more.

Covington, GA
As you exit Atlanta from any directions, the suburban sprawl is slow to drop off. Slower than most other regions. And it’s not a constant stream of strip malls and tan, KB homes, like in Houston and Los Angeles. Instead, there are gaps with wooded areas, polluting industries, gravel pits, trailer parks, and real, genuine towns.
Covington is a real town on the edge of that sprawl. While living in Atlanta in 2009-2010, I somehow wound up here on a roadtrip. It looks like a typical Georgia small town, with its ornate courthouse, grassy courthouse square, and strings of fast food and strip malls on its fringes. But the courthouse square is more upmarket, and the courthouse itself is grander. Covington is closer to Atlanta and that brings in some money. Some people who work in Atlanta are willing to brave Interstate 20 each day to provide a slow, small town lifestyle for their families. The eastern suburbs of Atlanta have a bad rep. DeKalb County is a predominately African American, and “majority minority” county. Wealthier white residents have been leaving since the 80′s, when upwardly-mobile minority families began moving in from the city. But the white flight that resulted sunk land values in areas which contributed to the area’s decline. That stigma continues as you go east, and Atlanta’s eastern suburbs remain less developed than in other directions, particularly to the north, which has seen a continual population surge of mostly wealthy commuters, but also job creation, particularly in Alpharetta. Without local job creation, the east side has stagnated, and this has resonated out. Sitting as its own town, Covington is somewhat of breakpoint; where the struggling small towns and the mindless sprawl of unincorporated areas ends and where the wealthier people feel somewhat safer in their choice of settling.
Just north of Covington is the town of Oxford, named for Oxford, England, and home to a campus of Atlanta’s exclusive Emory University. In fact, this was the original campus, and it was only later, as the school grew, that the decision was made to move to create a larger campus while retaining the one in Oxford. This creates an interesting dynamic in Covington, where rural Georgia meets the WASPy wealth of Emory. Oxford is a town only in legal terms, and, driving through, you would likely never know that you were not in Covington.

Pavers Alpharetta
If you’ve decided this is the year you’re going to add some pizzazz to your yard, do it with pavers. Pavers are more often thought of as patio bases. While it’s true they work well for patios, pavers in Alpharetta do so much more. Think of pavers as creative design tools for any area you want to landscape. Check out these tips for creative ways to use pavers in your yard.
Let Me Entertain You
Boring concrete patios are the norm for backyard entertainment. You don’t have to settle for the usual if you choose hardscaping with pavers. Use natural stone pavers can cut into various shapes. Fit into a free form design. Most people expect to see symmetry when using pavers. Use your creativity and place them in a random pattern. The result is a casual look but one high in visual interest. Add your fun patio furniture and plants in decorative pots and you’ve got quite the entertainment spot.
Break Up the Monotony
Think rectangle meets round! If your house is a long box a.k.a. super linear, adding round circular pavers breaks up the monotony. Use circular pavers as stepping stones in both front and backyard. Set potted plants on them and they work great for drainage without damaging grass. Create a round oasis made up entirely of circular pavers. If you’re in an ultra-creative mood use brick pavers around the outside of the circle. Two ways to break up the monotony.
A Bridge Over the Pond
Small backyard ponds are a popular feature in temperate climates. It’s not unusual to include a wooden bridge over the pond. Why not be a little rebellious and build a rectangular shaped pond with a square paver bridge? A square pond in the middle of a long narrow yard breaks up the space. Carry the paver theme over into the rest of the yard by creating a paver path with either ground cover or pea gravel in between each paver.
Make Way for a Fire Pit
If you have pavers in random colors and sizes leftover from other jobs, why not consolidate? You can easily stack the pavers in a circle and create a temporary fire pit. Before you build, make sure the manufacturer has labeled each type of paver safe for use in fire pits.
Frame the Pool
You won’t see most pools with pavers in Alpharetta because Most homeowners opt for a basic pool deck or surround. Don’t settle for the status quo. Instead swap out that drab deck and use patio pavers. Pavers are safe to step on, even with wet feet. They also make an even space to set pool chairs for relaxing and visiting between laps. Lay a paver path from your patio or outdoor living area for visual continuity.
