It’s gonna be fine (HG relay fic)
Thank you to @writer-in-theory for passing the baton to me! Thank you to @harringrove-relay-race for hosting this event!
It was a death wish, heading into the upside down on his own. Steve knew this but he had to do it. He had to make sure, make sure that Billy was gone. To let himself grieve and move on, move on from Hawkins, from the dumb kid he used to be. He’d told no one that he was doing this in case they tried to stop him. Stepping out of the Harrington house late at night, with a flashlight and his baseball bat, Steve headed into the woods behind his house.
The woods at night were creepy enough, but Steve’s brain was working overtime to psych himself out of doing what he was doing. It felt as if his brain was at war with his heart. Logically, he knew Billy was most likely dead. His heart didn’t want to believe it though, hoping against the inevitable that Billy was somehow alive. He jumped at any small noise, whether a twig snapping underneath his shoe or an animal rummaging in the darkness.
“Just keep moving Steve,” he muttered to himself.
Eventually, he reached the portal in the trees, it was perpetually open now, since the earthquake in Hawkins. An eerie red glow illuminated the trees around him, everything was completely silent in this part of the woods, apart from the almost tide-like noise of the portal, it was like the thing was alive and had a pulse. Steve steeled his nerves, almost three years of dealing with all this shit and it still scared him, but also gave him an adrenaline rush. He wasn’t sure which one was worse.
He stepped into the world full of monsters, his only source of light was his flashlight and the occasional flash of red lightning. From where he was, he was still in the woods, remembering the route he had taken with Robin, Nancy, and Eddie to what was Lover’s Lake in this bizzaro version of Hawkins. He was heading in the opposite direction, towards the ruins of Starcourt Mall, the last place he had seen Billy.
Coming out of the woods, he saw the upside down’s version of his house, just as quiet and unlived as it was in the normal Hawkins. It was sad in a way, even in this nightmare version of Hawkins the Harrington house was still empty. Nevertheless, Steve carried on through into the town.
This part of not-Hawkins had more monsters roaming about, forcing Steve to take a more roundabout way. Demodogs and the taller, more humanoid ones, what did Dustin call them? Demo… Demogorgons. That’s it, demogorgons. The faceless monsters roamed these streets more freely, feeding on the weaker ones and fighting over territory. Steve needed to be extremely careful and not make any noise to attract them, or else he’d never make it to Starcourt. Most of them had converged on Main Street, where the larger ones were taking their share of a dead demogorgon’s flesh. So if Steve took the left off of Cherry Oak Street and took the route to the community pool, he could get to the mall without being seen. Easy enough right? The monsters were too interested in their dinner to pay attention to anything else, and Steve easily slipped by into Cherry Oak Street. Nice and easy right?
Abandoned cars littered the streets, some with the windows smashed in, some overturned with the suspension ripped out. Some were just straight up on fire. The overturned cars made good hiding spots if any demodogs came snuffling by, Steve figured the smell of motor oil would cover up his scent, although some demodogs did nearly discover him. Luckily for him, the motor oil and the smell of burning drove them away. He still didn’t feel safe as he slowly made his way through the street, looking over his shoulder every other moment. It was too quiet, all of his instincts were screaming at him to get out of there. Run like his life depended on it.
But he had to be patient, lest he become a demogorgon’s dinner.
A booming flash of red lightning sounded in the sky, all of it relegating to one place, the Starcourt Mall. Something must be happening there. Could it be the Mindflayer? No it can’t be right? They killed it last year. Billy sacrificed himself to save them all. Steve could still remember Billy’s agonised screams as the Mindflayer’s claws pierced his flesh. Steve knows Billy did it to save everyone but, but he regretted not being able to get Billy out of there before the mall went on fire. At least then he could’ve been buried properly.
Still he slowly soldiered on, moving towards the wreckage of the mall. The roof was cracked open like an eggshell. Twisted pieces of metal exposed to the sky. Billy’s totalled Camaro was in the foreground, the windscreen cracked and the engine still steadily burning. That car had been Billy’s pride and joy, it was sad to see it in such a state.
A flash of movement from within the mall caught Steve’s attention. Too big to be a demodog, too small to be a demogorgon. Steve’s heart wanted it to believe it was Billy, but there was also a chance that it wasn’t and Steve was just walking to his death. Which sometimes, if he was being really honest with himself, didn’t sound too bad.
Steve entered the dilapidated building, taking in the wreckage that was caused last summer. Shopfronts destroyed, the plants torn from their pots at the root, shattered glass and neon tubes everywhere. He chuckled when he caught sight of the Scoops Ahoy building with the sign hanging off the wall. Those sailor uniforms had been ridiculous. But he still was sure he’d seen something moving in here. Steve wasn’t sure if he was seeing things but he was sure he saw a flash of dirty blonde hair.
He wandered through the lower levels of the mall, not daring to go upstairs in case it was unstable. Nothing seemed to be in here except maybe a dust bunny rolling through. It was too quiet and Steve didn’t like it. He felt like he was being watched, or maybe he was just being paranoid but his grip tightened on his nail bat.
His brain told him he was right to be paranoid when he got tackled from behind. His bat fell from his hand and landed somewhere on the floor. Whatever had gotten him was strong, managing to get him into a headlock. It looked humanoid, from skin that looked like it was once tanned, veins that looked a darker blue than usual popped from the skin. But the voice. The voice was familiar.
“What are you doing here pretty boy?”
“Billy? Let go of me, I’m here to help you.” Steve struggled against Billy’s grip. Even though he was taller, Billy was stronger, managing to hold Steve down.
Billy laughed mirthlessly. “You’re here to help me? Why didn’t you help me when I was possessed by the Mindflayer then?” Billy put more pressure against Steve’s throat and roared at him to answer.
Steve didn’t really have a good answer for him, his best bet was that he didn’t know he was possessed. That didn’t seem to please Billy much.
“You didn’t know? Really? That’s your excuse?” Billy sounded hurt. As if Steve had told his biggest secrets. Even though after their fight at the Byers’s house after Halloween, they had started to become maybe-friends over the Christmas break, both stuck in Hawkins with nothing to do. They’d settled some differences over shared packs of cigarettes and shitty beer from the Pay’n’Go. But what could Steve say? He wasn’t entirely privy to the kid’s Upside Down plans.
“I’m not saying this to save my neck. I genuinely didn’t know you were possessed by the Mindflayer. I was busy being beaten up by Russian soldiers trying to open a gate to this hellhole because they thought I was part of the Navy from my work uniform.”
Billy couldn’t help but laugh at that. It was so ridiculous that it couldn’t be anything other than the truth. He let go of Steve in his fit of laughter.
“True those uniforms were ridiculous, how the hell would they think you were Navy?”
Steve would have laughed too if he wasn’t catching his breath.
“Uh sorry, I thought you were him,” Billy replied sheepishly, “he’s mega pissed that you guys destroyed the Creel House by the way.”
“Who Vecna? Yeah we figured, but I’m just here to get you out of here if you want me to.” Steve offered a hand to Billy, the olive branch for him nearly choking Steve to death.
“But everyone thinks I’m dead.” Billy looked sceptic about Steve’s offer, like it was too good to be true. “Why would they believe it’s me and not a monster. What about Max?”
It tugged at Steve’s heartstrings to hear Billy sound so concerned about Max, also because he probably has no idea what’s happened with her. And Steve dreads telling Billy about it.
“Something is wrong with Max, I don’t know why but I can feel something is wrong. Please Steve, tell me, is Max ok?” Billy’s tone was so desperate, Steve really wanted to lie and tell Billy that Max was fine. But he knew Billy wouldn’t appreciate being lied to.
“Max… she got targeted by Vecna. She’s in the hospital right now, in a coma. If she survives she’ll probably be blind for the rest of her life.”
Steve held Billy close as the tears fell. Letting Billy go through the motions of it all. Trying to placate Billy by saying that it’s all gonna be fine but it felt insincere since Steve couldn’t really believe that himself.
“You’re right though, it’s gonna be fine, I’ll make it fine. For Max.” Billy’s voice was still shaky but with a determined tone. “She’ll need her big brother right?”
“Yeah, she will. So you wanna get out of here?”
“Yeah.”
Now I’m passing it over to @manwrre!

Getting Billy to admit he was head over heels for Steve was like pulling teeth. The guy was so goddamn stubborn with his denial, yet so obvious with his affections. Heather figured he’d rather dip his toes in boiling oil and say he was interested in being all ‘mushy and sappy’ as he put it with Steve Harrington.
Today was another one of those days. They were both on break from the pool and had decided to go into the mall to get some ice cream. In reality, Heather knew Billy just wanted to stare at Steve in the sailor shorts. Heather blew a pink bubble and popped it as she listened to Billy rant about what annoying-but-not-really thing Steve had done this week.
“He’s saying that he wants to see that new movie, uh, Back to the Future? Yeah that one. And that he wants me to come with him!” Billy said this as if it was the utmost offence that Steve wanted to take Billy to the movies. Heather thought it was so obvious that Steve was just as down bad for Billy as Billy was for Steve. She couldn’t see how Billy didn’t see this but she knew she could be just as oblivious to a crush.
The entrance to Scoops Ahoy stood out in all its maritime themed glory. It had been so humid in Hawkins the last week, the cool breeze from all the freezers was a welcome delight. Both Steve and Robin were on shift today, so Heather could get some girlfriend time while Steve and Billy got their whatever it was sorted out.
Heather smiled as Robin waved from the counter, the other girl had tied her hair up in two messy pigtails that Heather found oh so cute. Heather walked up with Billy bitching behind her.
“Hey cutie, how’s work?” Heather loved how cute Robin got when she was flustered, her blush almost eating all her freckles and extending to the tips of her ears.
“Uhmm g-good, you guys on break?” Robin fiddled with one of her rings, a nervous habit that Heather noticed she did a lot when they were talking.
“Yeah, I was wondering, do you wanna see a movie with me when we both get off? I miss spending time with you,” Heather pouted at the end of her sentence, looking over the top of her sunglasses, batting her lashes.
“Sure! Uh yes! I’d really like that, um, cherry…” Robin bit the corner of her bottom lip, Heather knew she was unsure of the new pet name she had bestowed but Heather thought it was cute.
“Cherry? I like it,” she linked her hands with Robin’s, red and black painted nails forming a pattern.
“You do? Because I thought, y’know you wear cherry lipgloss all the time and you always give me pet names, so I wanted to give you one… I’m rambling again aren’t I?”
“Yeah but you’re cute when you ramble s I don’t mind listening.”
If Robin could get any redder, Heather feared her girlfriend might explode. All of Robin’s circuits were going haywire.
Heather traced her thumb over Robin’s, “hey you wanna make it a double date for Back to the Future?”
Robin snapped back into reality, a confused look on her face, “with who?”
Heather smiled deviously. “Steve and Billy of course.”
Heather hadn’t noticed Steve standing at the back door, he must’ve come back to the front counter while Heather was flirting with Robin. He was just as red as his coworker.
Billy, for once, was stunned. “Did you just hit on Steve for me?”
“Yeah I did,” she grabbed Billy to go back to the pool, “see you guys at 8!” She waved back to the two gobsmacked sailors.

WIP WEDNESDAY
A snippet from an obikin fic im writing, based on Baby Driver
For all intents and purposes, Anakin didn’t mean for this to happen. It was just one small job to pay off his family’s debts, and he was a free man. All he had to do was wait in the car outside the bank, nice and simple. But trouble seemed to keep an eye out for one Anakin Skywalker, and trouble came in the form of a redheaded man with a gun, yelling at him to start driving. Who was Anakin to refuse?
He weaved through the twisting streets of Corsucant City, pushing the speed limit as far as he could. The man in the back muttered about 10,000 dollars in cash into what looked like a burner phone. Anakin knew to keep his nose out of it. He’d been burned before.
Sirens blared from behind them, giving them chase. The man in the back told Anakin to step on it, his tone warning as to what would happen if Anakin didn’t. White-knuckling the wheel, he pressed on the gas pedal as much as he could, the car engine roaring with pressure. Anakin could feel the other man keeping a close eye on where Anakin was turning to throw off the police’s trail. If Anakin did manage to create a diversion, he looked pleased, as if he was appraising Anakin’s skills. They were racing towards an interchange in the middle of Corsucant, one of the busiest roads in the city, and it was easy to lose someone. Anakin saw two cars on the road that looked very similar to the nondescript black car he was driving, the corner of his mouth pulled into a small smile as he pulled the manoeuvre to get the police car to follow one of the other cars as he took the way towards the western edge of the city. His eyes flicked to the rearview mirror to see if no one was following them. In the all clear. But curiously, the man in the back seemed to be proud of how Anakin managed to pull off that trick, and he vocalised that too. It made Anakin feel a small flutter in his stomach but he didn’t want to look into that now.
“You’ve done this kind of driving before, haven’t you?” his passenger asked. He was looking directly into Anakin’s eyes via the rearview mirror. The other man had this way of speaking, it was charming, amicable even, but his eyes were analysing every move or expression Anakin made.
“I used to,” Anakin answered curtly, keeping his face neutral to the best of his ability. But the man in the back seemed to be able to tell that Anakin wasn’t telling the entire truth. And maybe Anakin was being too naive but felt he could trust this man. And even so, he did owe Anakin big time for getting away from the cops.
“I don’t think you’re telling me everything but either way, you’re good. Could use someone like you on my team, if you’re interested in a job,” something was slipped into Anakin’s pocket, but his gut told him not to look at it. Watto would know and his mother would be disappointed that Anakin was still involved with not-so-legal activities.
“Look where can I drop you off? Can’t risk having you in here for too long,” Anakin sighed, knowing he was in deep shit either way.
“Urscu district. You know the Outlander Club yes?” Anakin nodded, he’d been a patron of that club a few times, when money allowed. Anakin took a sharp left at a junction between the COMPNOR building and the Corsucant public library, heading into the entertainment district. It wasn’t long before he found the Outlander. The outside of the club was dark, the neon lights dimmed in the daylight. It would be an eyesore of colour once nightfall hit.
“Thank you for your help,” a wad of 100 dollar bills was slapped onto Anakin’s lap, “If you reconsider, call the number on the card, and ask for Kenobi.” The door to the car closed and the man disappeared into the club, leaving Anakin staring at the wad of cash he was left with and wondering how the hell he would explain this to his mother.

My fic for the @harringrove-relay-race !!!
1k of Steve and Billy being dinguses in the snow!
A harsh white sun shone through the small gap in Steve’s bedroom curtains, hitting Billy in the face. He scrunched his eyes, turning away from the blinding light, to face Steve on the other side of the bed. But that side of the bed was cold.
“Huh?” he muttered blearily, blinking the last of the sleep out of his eyes. Steve must have gotten up early he supposed, grimacing the one time Steve was an early bird was the coldest day in Hawkins as far as Billy was concerned. It felt like he was dragging himself out of the bed as Billy got up, hissing as his bare feet touched the cold floor. Billy wrapped the comforter around himself as he walked through the house, checking for where Steve might be. Not in the bathroom, kitchen, or lounge. Billy had no clue where Steve was until he heard his name be called from the Harrington backyard.
Steve was out there in at least ten inches of snow, bundled up in a parka jacket and woollen hat and gloves. His nose and cheeks were red from the cold. He looked to have been beginning to roll a large snowball for a snowman. “Billy! Look at all this snow! You gotta get dressed and join me out here!” Steve sounded excited like a little kid in a candy shop. Billy stood at the Harrington's back door, still wrapped in the comforter, now pulled tighter around him because of the cold. The entire backyard was covered in snow, like something out of a Hallmark movie. Part of Billy was amazed at the sheer amount that had fallen overnight, he’d never seen anything like this in California, he felt an urge to flop face down in the soft powdery whiteness. But the other, larger part of him decided it was waaaaaaay too fucking cold for that. And Billy voiced that second opinion.
Steve rolled his eyes at Billy’s complaining, “It’s not that bad Billy, just get one of the thick coats from the porch and join me,” Steve switched to the big ol’ puppy dog eyes that Billy couldn’t say no to. Billy turned back into the house, and searched through Steve’s closet for a thick sweater, taking the yellow one, it still kinda smelled like Steve, pulling it over his own white t-shirt, his jeans and the boots he had worn when he came over. After that, he found a faux-fur lined winter coat in the porch, pulling it on over the sweater. A woollen hat and gloves finished the ensemble. Now Billy might be able to stay warm as he went out to join Steve in the backyard.
The cold nipped at Billy’s nose and seeped into his leather boots, he shivered and crunched his way over to Steve. “Hey pretty boy, you wanted me out here,” Billy couldn’t bring himself to be annoyed with how happy Steve looked. So happy in fact that Steve ran at Billy and threw himself into a hug, knocking both of them into a snowheap. Billy made a surprised “uff!” sound, as he toppled into the heap with Steve on top of him.
“Hey! What the hell!” Billy asked more out of surprise than anger. Steve had a mischievous smile, laying on top of Billy as if he hadn’t full body tackled him. “You want to mess about in the snow?” Billy asked with a raised eyebrow, hoping Steve would catch his drift, he was rewarded with a poke on the cheek and Steve saying that it was too cold for that.
“Oh so it’s ok for you to say it’s too cold for what I suggest but I get told to come outside anyway, ok,” Billy teased Steve, laughing as his boyfriend poured at him. “I’m just pulling your leg Bambi, now get off me my ass is going numb.”
Billy made a big show of shaking the snow off of himself, maybe some landed on Steve, who knows. The cold winter sun shone down on them, making the snow glitter, it was pretty and Billy would’ve kept looking at it if Steve didn’t hit im in the arm with a snowball.
It ignited Billy’s competitive streak, “it’s on Stevie!” Billy ducked down under another snowball from Steve, quickly making a snowball of his own. He scrambled over behind the snowheap, hiding from anymore projectiles. Only poking his head up to see Steve behind his own snowheap, probably with his own pile of snowballs.
“This is a declaration of war Steve!” Billy yelled before launching a couple of snowballs towards Steve’s cover, he heard them splatter against the surface of the snowheap, along with Steve’s laughing from behind it. The sound of snowballs splattering against his own snowheap, told him Steve had reciprocated.
Should he risk it to have a peek at what Steve was doing? Billy’s peripheral vision was good but not that good. He was about to poke his head up but then he saw the top of Steve’s hat over the top of his snowheap, quickly grabbing a snowball, throwing it, and knocking the woollen beanie off of Steve’s head. Steve yelped narrowly avoiding being hit by the snowball. Billy knew that was a risky move, Steve was just as competitive as him so he couldn’t get cocky now.
“You are so going down Billy!” Steve yelled back, and thus began an extremely intense snowball fight. Both boys gave as good as they got, Billy couldn’t count how many times he missed Steve, and how many times he got hit. A particularly hard hit from Steve left him feeling like he’d throw up, although the feeling passed quickly. Steve had a wet patch on his jeans from when Billy got him in the leg before he could get back behind the snowheap.
Both boys were freezing and panting heavily by the time their competitiveness wore off. Billy was sure Steve got in more hits than him, owing it to not seeing snow much when he was younger.
“I kicked your ass,” Steve said with a smile, the giddiness not quite worn off yet.
“Yeah you wish,” was Billy’s automatic retort.
“Hot chocolate?”
“Yeah,”
And with that it is my pleasure to introduce the next poster,,,, *drum roll* @billyharringson !!

There was a letter for Max on the table. It had been there for at least two months now. But she was too scared to open it, for may be written inside.
She stares at it from across the breakfast table while she was supposed to be eating breakfast before she got to school. With a shaking hand she picked it up and looked at the scratchy block handwriting on the envelope.
Maxine.
There was only one person apart from her mom who called her Maxine.
The letter was found in his room the day after he was skewered by the monster made of people. It was one of three. The other two addressed separately to his parents. She thought about the letters the gloomy day his coffin was lowered into the ground. It was in the middle of August but the sky had been overcast as if it was weeping for him too.
Her mom had sent the one addressed to his mother away the day after they were found. She saw her stepdad rip his up with some ugly words about his now deceased son. After that she hadn’t seen her step dad since. Fine by her, she didn’t like the guy anyways and he didn’t either.
Her mind was full of the memories of him, the good and the bad. The time where he had helped her beat a record on the arcade machines to win a giant stuffed bear for El, but then that was followed with a memory of him breaking her skateboard for sneaking out at night. She understands why he did it now, but she was still pissed about it. The walking paradox that was Billy Hargrove.
The letter itself read;
"Dear Maxine,
I want you to know I never really hated you, not one bit. I thought you were annoying sure, but who doesn't think their younger sibling is annoying? Tell Lucas I didn't hate him either, I was made to act that way. Neil wouldn't have taken too kindly to you hanging out with a black kid. He was the monster, not me.
He pit us against each other Max, especially so I wouldn't have had an ally against him. He used me to punish you since people would ask questions if you were walking about with a black eye. I hope he hasn't turned onto you since I'm going to die soon. You're a good kid Max, and you don't deserve anything he may or may not throw against you.
I'm going to sound insane right now, but there's more monsters in Hawkins other than Neil. Actual monsters that you'd see in a horror movie, dogs with no faces, ones that can walk on two legs. And one that's made out of people. That one made me take people to it against my will to help it get bigger. It brainwashed me Max, I can feel it in the back of my head as I'm writing this, it doesn't want me to tell you this. It tells me I need to not be as weak as the boy. I don't know who the boy is but you've got to keep him away from me. I already took Heather to the monster and her family, they got melted into the monster, it was the most horrible thing I've ever seen and it made me do it. I think I might be a bad person Max, but I don't want to be. I've never wanted to be a bad person but other people and things made me a bad person Max.
I don't know what I'm trying to tell you Max, I guess this might be the last time I speak to you as me. The monster is taking control more and more. Just remember that I love you, and while I might have not been the best brother to you, you were the best sister to me.
Love, Billy"
The letter had tear stains near the end, the ink starting to smear from either Billy's tears or Max's. Part of her was angry that it took Billy dying for him to tell her this, the other part felt a sort of relief to know that Billy really did love her. Tears were freely flowing as she read the letter again, pain in her chest growing for not realising earlier that Billy had been a victim of both the Mindflayer and Neil. She felt as if she had failed Billy even though she wouldn't have been able to do anything.
She clutched the letter close to her chest as she cried in the corner of Billy's room. "I'm sorry Billy, I'm so sorry,"

Mungrove Summer Bingo - Cold Beverage
Written for @mungrovebingos
(You can’t say cold beverage to me and not expect me to write a coffee shop au)
Eddie didn’t even know why he was going to this coffee shop. He didn’t even like coffee! But he was still walking out with an iced caramel latte for the fourth time this week.
He knew precisely why he got the latte, it was because of the hot barista that worked there.
The guy was tanned, blonde, and had arms like a Greek god. He also had a little skull tattoo on his left shoulder, not that Eddie had been staring though. His name tag said ‘Billy’ on it, Eddie had found out one time when he was staring at the outline of the guy’s pecs and the guy had noticed so Eddie had to pretend that he was trying to read the name tag. Billy looked like he didn’t believe Eddie when he said that, which was probably fair in Eddie’s opinion.
Eddie went to sit on the bench outside of his record store, a little bit down the road from the coffee shop. Hellfire Records, it was called and they specialised in rock and metal music. They also had a small section dedicated to tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, and Warhammer 10k.
He stared at the coffee inside the plastic cup, the ice melting like his courage each time he tried to ask Billy out on a date. The words just caught in his throat, and he didn’t want to make a fool of himself in front of the crush he’d been nursing for a couple of months., more than he already did at least. He groaned and pinched the bridge of his nose, Billy probably thought he was a weirdo now. He was sure that Billy had known what his deer-in-the-headlights stare meant.
“C’mon man, you gotta do better than that,” he mumbled to himself, “What happened to the plan?”
The plan, the fucking plan, the little scenario that he had concocted in his head that he was going be so suave and charming and effortlessly ask Billy out on a date. But of course that didn’t happen. Whoever coined the term, bisexual disaster, they were most definitely talking about Eddie. He sighed and got up from the bench, now watery iced latte in hand.
He was hit with a blast of cold air from the AC as soon as he opened the door to the store. It felt refreshing after being out in the sun, and Eddie hummed in appreciation. The store's interior was a mishmash of a record store and a collection of concert memorabilia. Eddie had put up posters of concerts he had attended and his Uncle Wayne had given him some stuff from back in the 70s and 80s. They also had a frame full of ticket stubs on the wall behind the counter. The games section was to the right of the counter and the wall behind it was stacked high with Funko figures. He dumped his battle vest by the counter and stretched his arms up until he felt his shoulders pop. His assistant manager, Gareth came through from the back and immediately started grilling Eddie on his antics in the coffee shop.
“What do you mean that you froze up?! What happened to the plan?” Gareth asked incredulously, Eddie was sure if he wasn’t Gareth’s boss, he would be being strangled right now. He and Gareth had stayed up late planning the ultimate guide to asking out a hot barista. “So you’re telling me, you wussed out and ended up ordering a coffee that you don’t even like?” Gareth pointed towards the cup in Eddie’s hand.
“Uh yeah? What does it look like dude? I couldn’t not order something if I was there! I didn’t want to look like I was wasting his time!” This was true, mostly, what happened was that Eddie was a stuttering mess while he ordered the coffee.
Eddie was about to throw the cup away because he wasn’t going to drink it anyway but then he saw something written on the lid.
“Metallica rocks, - B”
He wasn’t sure how he didn’t notice it before, probably because he was trying to still look like he wasn’t feeling like a pathetic wet cat in front of Billy. But even that little reference to the fact he was wearing a Metallica shirt made him feel all gooey inside, because did that mean Billy thought he was maybe, just maybe, kind of cool? And then that meant, Billy was into metal which made him even hotter in Eddie’s opinion.
Eddie hadn’t realised he was staring at the cup until Gareth slammed his hand down on the counter bell. The sharp sound made Eddie jump and drop the cup, the coffee splattering on the floor in a brown mess.
“Dude! What the hell?” Gareth didn’t say anything but pointed to the front of the shop. Then Eddie’s heart leapt into his throat. Billy was standing outside, inspecting the window display. An approving look on his face. Eddie had a gut feeling it was because of the “Back to the 80s” special they had going. Gareth had said that an “80s slasher summer” was popular on TikTok at the moment. Eddie never really got TikTok trends.
Eddie made himself look busy by cleaning up the spilt coffee, hoping that Billy wouldn’t enter the store. Because Eddie wasn’t sure if he’d be able to speak to Billy if he did.
Eddie kept his head down until he had cleared away the mess, Billy was still outside looking at the records in the window. Eddie had two options, 1) keep himself looking busy inside or 2) go out and speak to Billy. He knew which one he wanted to do but was more likely to do the other. Or he could wait until Billy entered the store….
“I can feel you judging me Gareth.” He stated bluntly, knowing that the younger man was at the counter waiting to see what Eddie would do.
“Uh huh,” came bored from the direction of the counter. God, Gareth could be a little asshole at times.
The bell at the door rang as someone entered the store, both Gareth and Eddie turned to see Billy enter the store. Billy had his hands in his pockets, looking like he stepped out of The Lost Boys. Ok, the sleeveless muscle top was even hotter now that he wasn’t wearing an apron. Plus, a dangly earring that Eddie hadn’t noticed before.
“Uh, hey?” Billy waved a hand, probably feeling awkward since he had two pair of eyes on him. What was this a three-way Mexican standoff?
Something must be possessing Eddie because he felt like he was on autopilot as he asked Billy if he needed any help today and led him around the store. Billy was quiet and made little hmm-ing noises occasionally. Either Eddie was super fucking boring or he had a feeling that Billy was feeling just as awkward as him. If he was, he was better at hiding it because Eddie was making a goddamn fool of himself in the worst way.
They finished at the small games section, “Uh, yeah, that’s everything we’ve got. You can… you can, uh, ask if you need any help,” Eddie turned to leave Billy to his own devices when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned around to a pair of big and earnest blue eyes, Billy’s adam’s apple bobbed in his throat as he opened his mouth to speak.
“Eddie, I… I want to,” Billy stuttered in the middle of his sentence, he seemed to be kicking himself mentally for that.
“You want to what?” Eddie spoke quietly, not trying to get his hopes up but his traitorous heart was hammering his chest.
“I want to… no, I’d like to, I’d like to ask you out on a date?” Billy chewed at his bottom lip waiting for Eddie’s reaction.
Eddie felt like someone had turned his world on its head. Billy was asking him out? Oh my god! This was happening? Eddie hadn’t made a bad impression on Billy, to the point where he wanted to go out on a date.
Eddie must’ve been frozen on the spot because his lack of reaction made Billy curl in on himself. Oh god, Eddie come on! Pull yourself together, he thought to himself. Eddie’s seeming like a real asshole the longer he keeps quiet.
“If you don’t want to you can just say so…” Billy sounded so hurt, in turn that made Eddie feel even more awful for not saying anything. Eddie felt his face getting hotter and hotter, he had to say something now.
“Yes! I’d really like to go out on date with you, um, maybe we could catch dinner and a movie?” Eddie tried his best to be sauve, but it probably sounded more like word vomit. But Billy’s face was lighting up in relief, red blush dusting his cheeks.
“You want to? Is 7 tomorrow night ok?” Billy’s eyes were huge and his face was still full of disbelief, like he still couldn’t believe that Eddie had said yes.
“Yeah that would be great,” then Eddie did something impulsive and hugged Billy before he said that he had to get back to work. Billy had to do the same and left the record store looking the happiest Eddie had ever seen him.
Eddie hadn’t realised that Gareth was still there until he spoke, “Look at you, Romeo,” he then snickered when Eddie flipped him off. But even Gareth’s teasing couldn’t dampen Eddie’s mood. And if he spent the rest of the work day dreaming about Billy, that was his own business.

Summary: Nancy needs a little help from Chrissy for a hairy problem she has
Ao3 link: read here!
Tumblr media
The forest around Hawkins was quiet tonight except from the crunch of leaves under Chrissy’s feet. She couldn’t see more than five feet ahead of herself, the smell of wet grass and earth was comforting to her. Chrissy had always loved the forest and the tales of the creatures that lived within.
When she had shown magical abilities as a child, her mother had been terrified, a witch in the Cunningham family? As far as Mrs Cunningham was concerned Chrissy had to hide her magical abilities for the sake of the family image. It was painful for Chrissy but she did what her mother told her. Until she met Nancy.
Nancy had been very interested in Chrissy’s magical abilities, especially when she learned that Chrissy’s magic was nature related. The two girls had become fast friends and even faster lovers. Secret kisses behind the gymnasium and holding hands underneath the desk in the library. But Chrissy had the feeling that Nancy was hiding something from her, something that made Chrissy think that Nancy wasn’t entirely human.
This was the reason that Chrissy found herself in the woods at some point past 1 o’clock in the morning. The moon was full in the sky, looking down on the world like an unblinking eye. Chrissy had noticed that Nancy had been acting more, irritable? Clingy? Either way it wasn’t usual behaviour from her girlfriend. Chrissy wasn’t 100% sure on this but she swore she had seen a gold outline on Nancy’s blue-grey eyes at some points but if she looked again it was gone. Nancy had also been eating a lot more red meat recently, when Chrissy asked about it, she knew Nancy wasn’t a big fan of red meat usually, Nancy laughed and said she was PMS-ing. For some reason Chrissy’s gut told her this was a lie. There was a distinct smell in the air, something animalistic, like a wet dog but also something sweet, like the vanilla perfume Nancy usually wore. Was Nancy here? Chrissy delved further into the woods to find out.
Someone had definitely come through here, there was a path made through the long grass, the curious smell from before following that path. It led into a copse of trees, the foliage so thick above that no light from the moon filtered through. Chrissy summoned a small ball of light and used to guide herself along the path, along the way she saw a pair of Nancy’s sneakers abandoned before her. That confirmed two things for her, Nancy was here and that she wasn’t entirely human. Not that that was a problem for her, Nancy had accepted Chrissy as a witch almost immediately, and Chrissy would accept Nancy for what she was too.
The path led Chrissy to a small clearing, the trees surrounded the clearing in a circle, a clear view up to the moon. Chrissy thought this place looked familiar but couldn’t quite place it. She could feel some magical energy here, perhaps a former witches circle? But what really concerned Chrissy was that Nancy was there, curled up in a ball, her body twitching as if she was in a great amount of pain.
Chrissy rushed over to be by her side, “Nancy? Are you ok?” she asked, concerned. She didn’t dare touch Nancy just in case that she didn’t want to be touched, Nancy looked over her shoulder to see who was speaking to her, the tension in her body at an all time high, but relaxed when she saw it was Chrissy.
“Chriss… you shouldn’t be here,” another wave of pain racked Nancy’s body, making her cry out, it was getting harder to resist the change, Nancy wouldn’t forgive herself if she hurt Chrissy.
“Nancy please tell me what’s going on, I wanna help you,” Chrissy’s voice was full of concern, her heart breaking at the sight of Nancy in so much pain. If Chrissy could take the pain away, she’d try everything she could but she feared that she would not be able to do anything. Nancy managed to sit up to face Chrissy with a great deal of effort, her chest heaving. Then Chrissy saw the truth, Nancy’s eyes were now a golden yellow, her canine teeth becoming sharper, nails curling into claws, patches of thick hair on her forearms and legs, and her ears were now pointed. Nancy was a werewolf. Now all of Nancy’s odd behaviour around the full moon made sense. Chrissy was glad that it wasn’t anything terrible, although she felt a little upset that Nancy kept this part of herself from Chrissy, Chrissy knew she couldn’t think about that right now, Nancy needed help.
“Chrissy, I…” Nancy started before a smell hit her nose, something sweet, a little musky, but just overwhelmingly Chrissy. It made her salivate, the more animalistic side to her calling for more. Chrissy moved closer and cupped Nancy’s face, looking at Nancy with such a tender, loving gaze, it made Nancy know that Chrissy didn’t care that she was a werewolf, Chrissy did truly love her.
“Nance, please let me help you,” Chrissy was so sincere, so earnest, so good. It made Nancy feel like she didn’t deserve her.
They shared a kiss, tender and intimate, Chrissy could feel her heart beat fast in her chest, the air becoming charged with sexual tension, Nancy’s hands moved up her sides, her touch feather-light, making Chrissy shiver. Nancy’s kisses moved down to her neck, grazing the delicate skin with her fangs, the combined sense of danger and eroticism, making some heat settle in Chrissy’s belly.
“Nancy, please…” Chrissy moved Nancy’s hands to her chest, cupping her breasts, giving a silent consent for Nancy to keep going. The sound of fabric ripping filled Chrissy’s ears, the feeling of the cold air hitting her chest making her gasp. Nancy made quick work of Chrissy’s bra, leaving her in only the jeans she was wearing. Her head tilted back in pleasure as Nancy began playing with her nipples, rolling them between her fingers, with just the right amount of pressure to tease along the line between pleasure and pain. “Oh god… just like that…” Chrissy moaned as Nancy took one nipple into her mouth, lapping at it with her tongue, teasing those delicious sounds out of Chrissy.
“Please, Nancy, I want to…” Chrissy whimpered, her lip quivering.
“You want to what?” Nancy whispered, not wanting to leave such an intimate moment with Chrissy.
“I want to touch you as well,” Chrissy tugged at Nancy’s sweater, lifting it up to the bottom of her ribcage.
Nancy smiled and let Chrissy take off the sweater, and unhook her bra, leaving the discarded clothing in a pile. Chrissy pulled Nancy on top of her, grinding against their still-clothed hips together. Chrissy, feeling a little more confident, gave one of Nancy’s tits a squeeze, “got such pretty tits Nance,” appreciating the noise she got in response from Nancy.  Chrissy could feel the heat coiling inside her, she wanted more, wanted more of Nancy. One hand stayed at Nancy’s chest, the other slid down the front of Nancy’s pants, down into her panties and toying with the wetness there.
Nancy whimpered and ground her hips down onto Chrissy’s hand, “Chrissy, I… ohhh… keep doing that,” she spoke with a breathy voice as Chrissy teased circles around her clit, making the muscles in her thighs twitch. She grabbed at the waistline of her pants, pulling them down, kicking them off somewhere behind her. She then did the same for Chrissy, revealing a pair of pale pink lacy underwear.
“Wearing such pretty panties for me, huh?” she whispered into Chrissy’s ear, one of her fingers teasing along the wet spot in between the other girl’s legs. Chrissy’s strawberry blonde hair fanned out behind her head like a halo, making Chrissy look more angelic than she already did. Chrissy’s hand left Nancy’s panties so she could wrap her arms around Nancy’s back, pulling her into a passionate kiss, before Nancy kissed her way downwards, pushing the pink lace to the side, gently running her fingers along Chrissy’s wet folds, making the other girl squeeze her thighs together. Nancy wasted no more time and went to lapping and sucking at Chrissy’s clit, moving the folds with her fingers so she could lick at Chrissy’s entrance, tasting her arousal.
“Fuck Nancy, so good…” Chrissy’s chest heaved, she’d never been eaten out before, and god she was enjoying it. She squeezed her thighs around Nancy’s head, tangling her fingers in her hair, Nancy kept going, encouraged by Chrissy’s moans and whimpers that she was getting close, Nancy wanted to see what beautiful sounds Chrissy would make as she came.
Chrissy wasn’t sure how much longer she could hold on for, anytime she bucked her hips, Nancy held her down, focusing in on her clit, making sure Chirssy had the utmost pleasure that Nancy could give her. Chrissy was so close, teetering on the edge of her orgasm, her thighs were tense, her breathing stuttered, so, so, so close. Nancy seemed to have sensed this and asked teasingly if Chrissy was going to come for her.
“I’m so close, baby please…” Chrissy felt her orgasm hit her like a truck, her hips shaking, thighs clenched tightly around Nancy’s head. It was no doubt the most intense orgasm Chrissy had ever had. “Shit… oh my god, Nance,” she breathed out when her high was over. Nancy looked up from between Chrissy’s legs, her lips and chin wet with Chrissy’s release. She licked her lips like it was the most delicious thing.
“So good for me Chrissy, so good,” Nancy purred, kissing at the delicate skin of Chrissy’s inner thighs. Nancy looked so hot doing it, her sharp teeth adding that edge of danger that got Chrissy feeling some sort of way. Nancy’s grip on her thighs would leave some bruises that Chrissy would hide under her cheerleading skirt, but would remind Chrissy of this encounter.
Chrissy shuffled herself to a kneeling position, pulling off her panties, throwing them into the pile of clothing, Nancy did the same, her wet pussy looking so inviting to Chrissy, she wanted to touch the other girl, give her the same pleasure that she had received.
Even with the more wolfy features Nancy was the most gorgeous person Chrissy had ever seen, she had no doubt that she absolutely adored Nancy. The two girls kissed again, lingering in each other’s arms for a minute before they laid down together, Chrissy pressed one leg in between Nancy's, allowing her to grind against it. Nancy’s eyes fluttered shut, little breathy moans coming from her mouth. Chrissy felt herself get wet again from watching Nancy pleasure herself, Chrissy wanted it to be her that was making Nancy feel good.
“Want you to touch me,” Nancy whispered, her voice needy. Who was Chrissy to deny her? They got into a position where they both could grind against each other, Chrissy taking the position on top, grinding against Nancy, making the other girl buck her hips, making her let out those cute little breathy moans. “Chriss… please more,” Nancy whimpered.
“Hmm? What was that baby? You want me to make you feel good?” Chrissy asked in an oh-so-innocent voice, but her choice of words hinting at the more dominant role Chrissy was taking here. “You want me to touch you?” Chrissy then dipped a hand between their bodies, the pad of her finger tracing circles around Nancy’s clit, making the other girl squirm.
“Yes, Chrissy please touch me, please,” Nancy was nearly sobbing at the stimulation to her clit, but not enough to bring her to orgasm. She bucked her hips, hoping for more of that pleasure she craved so much, she wanted to come so bad, she wanted to be good for Chrissy. She got her answer in Chrissy grinding down, Nancy gripped her hips, wanting this moment to last, both girls giving and receiving pleasure, enjoying each other’s bodies.
Nancy felt the beginning of her orgasm begin as a pressure in her lower abdomen, and felt some of her wetness on her inner thighs, or was it Chrissy’s? Nancy neither knew nor cared at this point, both girls were panting and so, so, so close.
“‘M close, gonna come,” Nancy grunted through the intense clitoral stimulation Chrissy was giving her, her thigh muscles were twitching, she felt like she wanted to pull away but also she didn’t, the pressure in her stomach was at boiling point until- “Hah! Chrissyyyyyy," Nancy came with a cry, her claws raking red lines down Chrissy’s back. Chrissy came not long after, both girls laying in each other’s arms, basking in post-orgasm afterglow.
“God, that was, that was amazing,” Nancy said, utterly exhausted from Chrissy and her antics tonight. Her voice turned a little sheepish, “sorry about your back,” her face got redder when Chrissy turned to look at her back, as if she hadn’t even noticed that Nancy’s claws had scratched her.
Chrissy giggled at her girlfriend’s expression lying on her side beside Nancy, “it’s ok,” was all she said, but her voice was filled with so much love for Nancy, that the other girl couldn’t help but feel all mushy inside.
“I love you Chrissy,”
“I love you too, Nancy,”

It was just a bet.
Billy was repeating that to himself as he stared down at the maid’s costume. Eddie had even included some blonde cat ears he’d bought from Etsy. Said they would match Billy’s hair.
The outfit was simple: a black minidress with white detailing and an apron. Eddie had also included some white thigh-high socks that he said would look great on Billy. It was just an outfit that he was going to wear for three hours at most, he thought to himself.
Eddie had been waaaay too happy when he handed over the bag. Grinning like the Cheshire cat when he said, “This is going to make your tits look great.”
When he put it on, he found that the top of the dress had some corsetting in the top so it pushed his pecs up, as if he had cleavage. The thigh-high socks were a little tight around the tops of his thighs but it wasn’t uncomfortable. He looked at himself in the mirror near his and Eddie’s bed, taking in the sight of himself. He looked hot. No other way to put it. The dress hugged his sides in a way that showed off the work he had put in for his abs, it was like he was a marble statue draped in silk.
He hadn’t realised that Eddie had somehow materialised behind him while he was admiring his reflection.
“Jesus Eds I didn’t know you were here too,” Billy looked at his boyfriend in the mirror, furrowing his brow a little. Eddie laughed at him and wrapped his arms around Billy, eyes dark.
“I can’t let you go to the party like that,” Eddie grumbled into Billy’s shoulder. Billy was sure Eddie would be pouting if he could see the bottom half of his face.
“What do you mean, I can’t? This was your idea!” Billy would play along because he knew the reward if he was a good boy. Eddie’s fingers dug into his sides, if he gripped any tighter Billy thinks he would rip the dress. Billy rocked his hips back a little bit, knowing that this is what Eddie wanted.
“Babe, if you do that we might not even make it to the bed,” Eddie pulled Billy’s hips back towards him, one hand sliding up the skirt. “Oh? You’re wearing the panties that came with it?” Eddie snapped the lace against Billy’s leg and kissed the back of Billy’s shoulder.
“Eddie…” Billy whined, he liked this more dominant Eddie, his tone of voice was hitting all the right buttons for Billy and the teasing touches just made him want more. But Billy had something else in mind.
“What do you want babygirl? Do you wanna go to the party or just stay here?”
Hard choice when Billy looked this good in the dress, but he also didn’t want to go to Stacie’s dumb party in the first place, and Eddie was offering a very good alternative. He turned around to face Eddie, biting his lip and pulling the beanpole of a man down for a kiss. He could taste the old tobacco and mint chewing gum on his lips. Eddie kissed back harder as if his life depended on it.
“So I’m guessing that this means you wanna stay?” The taller boy said in between kisses. He thought right when Billy pushed him down against the bed and straddled his hips, grinding down a little, making Eddie groan.
“You look so good, baby,” Eddie spoke very appreciatively as he reached up and cupped Billy’s pecs in his hands, squeezing just a little. It made Billy whimper, Eddie taking this as his cue to squeeze again.
Eddie peaked under Billy’s skirt, “Oh you even wore the panties,” Eddie’s voice took on a darker note when he saw the black lace. “You’re so good for me baby.” Billy leaned down and kissed Eddie, a small moment of tenderness before the fun started.
He tugged the panties down, his erect cock springing free. God, he was leaking so much precum already. Eddie started to unbuckle himself, wiggling his stupid skinny jeans down. Billy shuffled himself over to hover over Eddie’s chest and lifted his skirt. He then started to tug at himself, letting the precum dribble onto Eddie’s tongue. He groaned from deep in his chest and tilted Eddie’s chin upwards so he swallowed what he had in his mouth.
“Good boy.”
Eddie glowed at the praise, body compliant to whatever Billy wished. The latter settled himself between Eddie’s legs, pulling his cock free from his underwear and giving it a couple of pumps. Eddie’s legs twitched around him, whimpering when Billy teased the tip with his tongue.
“Uh, god Billy your mouth, oh my god,” Eddie was near incoherent, letting out moans and whimpers as Billy sucked him off. Billy felt Eddie’s fingers tangle in his hair, holding him down.
“Billy please…” Eddie’s voice sounded so wrecked like he was going to blow his load at any point. Maybe he was but Billy didn’t want that just yet.
“Not yet sweet boy, I wanna ride you,” Billy said after giving one last lick along Eddie’s length. Eddie whined and arched his hips once the stimulation was gone. Billy decided to tease Eddie a little by fingering himself in front of him, showing that it felt good while Eddie didn’t get any pleasure.
“Billy, you look so good,” Eddie started to jack himself a little, looking a bit confused when Billy stopped him.
“Did I say you could touch yourself?” Billy growled at him, Eddie’s eyes looked like they were pure black, and his breathing was slow. All of his focus was purely on Billy as he lowered himself down on Eddie’s cock.
“Eddie… oh fuck, you feel so good. Filling me so well,” Billy groaned, wriggling his hips a little. Eddie wasn’t a shower but good lord he was a grower. Eddie couldn’t even speak, he was just trying to breathe while he was overcome with pleasure when Billy started moving. His thighs flexed as he fucked himself on Eddie’s cock.
“Ah, Billy… ah…” Eddie’s brain was scrambled from the pleasure. Even forming a thought that made sense was difficult. He just kept bucking his hips to match Billy’s movements.
“C’mon Eds, hard-” Billy cut himself off with a moan when Eddie managed to hit his prostate dead on. Billy ground his hips down to meet each of Eddie’s thrusts, the bed shaking from the movement of their bodies.
“Billy, I’m gonna… I’m gonna,” Eddie’s hips stuttered as he came into Billy, his eyes rolling backwards in pure bliss. Billy kept moving, chasing his own orgasm, making Eddie squirm just a little from the overstimulation. He stroked his cock as he bounced, giving Eddie a show.
“Nuh, Eddie, I’m close,” Billy moaned, tilting his head back so his neck was exposed. Doing all the things he knew that drove Eddie wild. The pressure coiled in his belly, and his strokes got less fluid. He bucked into his hand a couple of times and then he was coming over his hand.
Eddie was still lying in a blissed-out state, mouth slightly open. Billy hissed slightly when he got off of Eddie and lay beside him on the bed. He took his come-covered hand and wiped some with his finger into Eddie’s mouth.
“Swallow, bats,” he whispered into the other boy’s ear, using the pet name he gave Eddie because of his tattoo. He watched Eddie’s adam’s apple bob as he swallowed what was on his tongue. “Good,” he punctuated the sentence with a kiss on Eddie’s cheek.
“That was way better than going to the party,” Eddie laughed a little, still recovering from the aftershocks.
“Definitely.”

The Ghost at the Boarding School - Mungrove Week prompt 6
Written for @mungroveweek
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/46783390
Billy didn’t believe in ghosts.
That’s what he would’ve told you two months ago when he was sent to this stupid fucking boarding school. But lo and behold he was told he was getting the ‘haunted’ dorm since it was the only one free at this point in the year.
“Welcome to Our Lady Immaculate School, Mr Hargrove,” droned the tiny woman at the reception desk, “Your room will be on the third floor, number 306.” She passed him a key and a map of the school and grounds and his timetable. “Classes start at 9 am sharp and your uniform will be waiting upstairs.” She eyed his Metallica t-shirt with distaste.
She had then shuffled off into the room behind her desk, Billy took that as his cue to get out of her sight. He grumbled at nothing in particular and then at something in particular when he realised he’d have to lug his suitcase up three flights of stairs.
“God fucking damn it,” he glared at the stained glass window showing the Virgin Mary with seven swords piercing her heart.
Room 306 was like any of the other dorms apart from one slight difference. It didn’t look like anyone had been in here since the 80s. Seriously, it had old Dio tour posters on the walls from 1986. Although everything had been cleaned and the bed had been made for his arrival, none of the old occupant’s had been touched. Billy flopped down on the bed and stared at the ceiling, it could be worse, he thought.
He pulled his phone out of his pocket and saw he had three missed calls from Argyle and some commiseration texts from Max. While Billy was being sent off to a boarding school for ‘troubled kids’, it didn’t say that on the pamphlet Neil had shoved at him before yelling at him to pack his bags but he got the gist, Max was getting ‘etiquette lessons’ on how to act like a proper young lady. Billy had laughed at the idea of rough-and-tumble tomboy Max in a frilly dress and heels. But that was before the reality of his end of the deal hit him. He was being sent away from everything he ever knew. Everyone he knew. Neil even wanted to confiscate his phone but Susan managed to convince Neil to let him keep it. If only to keep in contact with the house.
The texts from Max read;
“They’re making me learn which fork goes with salad… I think I’ll stab someone in the hand with it instead”
“Billyyyyyyyy I’m so bored this sucks so much”
“Can God smite me now? What did I do in a past life to deserve this?”
Billy chuckled and sent her a picture of a cat looking angry with its cheeks puffed out and captioned it “It’s you rn”. Max sent back three middle finger emojis. He then went to his voicemail and tapped the first one that Argyle had sent.
“Yo man, what’s up? I hear you’re being sent to this like, uh, boarding school for criminal kids? Wicked nasty move of your old man to move you to Indiana.” Even though the slightly tinny speaker of his phone, Argyle’s voice sounded like the beach and summer. He missed his best friend already. He could hear the clatter of the pizza shop Argyle worked at in the background. “Call me when you can. Gotta make sure you’re ok man. Gotta go now, boss man’s on the floor.” And then the voicemail ended.
Billy could feel the prickle of tears at the corners of his eyes, he didn’t wanna listen to the other voicemails just yet, he wanted to savour them, reminding him that this wasn’t forever. But he should probably call Argyle back. He wiped his eyes and cleared his throat, waiting for Argyle to pick up.
When he did, he sounded like he had been asleep. He probably was since Billy still wasn’t used to the time difference in Indiana vs California.
“Hello?” The sleep was heavy on Argyle’s voice, and Billy felt a little bad about waking him up but he needed someone to talk to.
“Hey Argyle, it’s me,” Billy’s voice was small, still the instinct to keep quiet remained. Even if he was far away from Neil. “I, uh, you asked me to call you when I could?” God, he sounded pathetic.
“Yo! B-man what’s going on dude? You’re in the boonies now, huh?” Argyle still sounded happy to hear from him, even if he probably did wake him up at like 3 am. That was the good thing about Argyle, even if you were kind of an asshole like Billy, if Argyle decided you were one of his brochachos, you were a brochacho for life.
“Yeah, it's like, this Catholic boarding school for ‘troubled teens’ but they don’t say that. I got this dorm that looks like no one’s been in it since the 80s. No seriously, there’s Dio posters from 1986.”
“‘86? Really? Dude, I bet you’ve got one of the haunted dorms like in horror movies,” Argyle’s laugh was like having a sip of warm hot chocolate, warming you from your belly. Billy didn’t realise how much he missed his best friend until now.
“Man, you know that stuff’s not real. How much of a dork would a ghost from the 80s be? If they died here I bet they’re still a teenager. God, I’d hate that, being a teenager in the afterlife.”
“How do you know it’s not real? Maybe the ghosts won’t talk to you because you’re always denying their existence.”
Billy laughed, “Yeah that’s why the ghosts won’t speak to me because I’m mean to them.” Argyle laughed with a ‘yeah you’re so mean!’ tacked on. They fell into easy conversation after that, with Argyle catching Billy up with all the antics of their friend group and the new pizza combos he’d come up with at work.
“Mix a bit of sriracha into the marinara and top with pineapples, it’s so good dude. Like sweet and spicy,” Billy had a warm but strange feeling in his belly listening to Argyle, it was like he had gone on a rollercoaster and had come out giggling with adrenaline. It lasted until Argyle hung up to go back to sleep. Then the loneliness came back, like quicksand sucking Billy in. He stared out of the window, the school was covered with thick forest land as far as the eye could see. This place seriously looked like the setting for a Stephen King novel, he thought.
He heard a thump from the corner of the dorm, and he’d be lying if he said he didn’t jump a little.  He looked over from where he was lying on his bed. It was just one of the paperback novels that were stacked on the dresser falling onto the floor.
“Sure, this is a fucking haunted school,” he muttered to himself.
******
Billy couldn’t explain why but weird stuff had been going on in his dorm, and he was running out of ways to logically explain it. The window opens in the middle of the night? Well, it was windy last night. Something brushes against his back while he’s sleeping? Probably just his duvet.
His classmates had noticed that he was always tired in class, and he knew he couldn’t keep using the jetlag excuse.
“Are you sleeping ok?” a girl in his history class, Jennie asked him. Jennie was on the girl's volleyball team and she had clocked Billy immediately. She had also decided that they were friends.
“I’m fine,” Billy turned back to his history textbook but the words were swimming in front of his eyes.
“And you can’t lie to me, Cali.” Jennie poked his shoulder with her pencil until he turned to face her. “You got the haunted dorm didn’t ya?”
Billy rolled his eyes, and it seemed like everyone believed in this alleged haunting but him. “Yeah, the fucking time capsule from 1986.”
“D’ya know what happened to the last guy who had that dorm?”
“He died.”
Jennie flicked her eraser at him. “No, but really, there’s a rumour that he got murrrrrrderrrred,” Jennie said the last word in a sing-song way.
“What? You’re making that up.” Billy hated to admit that he was intrigued, a murder at a boarding school? It reminded him of the thriller novels that Susan read.
“I’m not!” Jennie said that a bit louder than she intended and got a glare from Mr O’Donnell. “I swear that there was a guy who was killed here! My brother went to this school too and he told me about it.”
“Ever considered that he was pulling your leg?”
Luckily for Billy, Jennie didn’t have anything she could throw at him without causing a scene. “Nah, I’d be able to tell if Nick was lying to me.” Jennie passed Billy her phone under the desk, it had a picture of a guy on it. He had curly brown hair that was shoulder length and a battle vest. And a grin that marked him down as a troublemaker. “That’s the guy that got killed, Eddie Munson.”
“Explains the posters that are still in my room,” Billy looked at the guy’s battle vest, there was a Motorhead patch, WASP and Judas Priest. There was a demon on his shirt and the words ‘Hellfire Club’.
“Ok so, he was retaking senior year for the second time in ‘86 and he had this club for like, um, DnD,” Jennie spoke quickly as she got more excited. “But there were rumours that he was a Satanist or something? And there was this other guy,” Jennie scrolled to another photo in her camera roll, “Jason Carver. And he’s like this super ultra-Christian guy and the captain of the basketball team. He and Eddie do not get along. Eddie was making fun of him and his cronies for conforming or some shit, in front of everyone in the cafeteria, and Jason is mega pissed, right? So he and his teammates jump Eddie in his dorm and I don’t know if it’s true but they accidentally broke his neck. But everyone thinks Jason killed Eddie on purpose.”
“Sounds like some Satanic panic shit,” Billy said, deducing from the time of the story, and what he knew about the 80s from his dad’s drunken rants about ‘how it used to be’.
“Yeah probably-” Jennie started to say when she got interrupted by Mr O’Donnell.
“Miss Park, Mr Hargrove, if you two would return to your worksheets and stop talking about the accidental death at this school, it would be very much appreciated.” They both mumbled an apology and Billy swore he felt a cold breeze go through the classroom, even though none of the windows was open.
*****
Billy felt like he was being watched.
It was always in his dorm room but he refused to believe it was the supposed ghost of Eddie Munson. If it was, this ghost is going to have to show himself to Billy. Jennie was convinced that Billy was being haunted.
“Dude! He is absolutely haunting you and he probably wants you out of his dorm or he wants to kill you,” Jennie told him over breakfast the next morning.
Billy pushed his scrambled eggs around on his plate, “Little morbid for 7.30 am Jen,” He didn’t tell her that he was maybe starting to believe her because some of the shit that was happening in his dorm he couldn’t explain logically. Like feeling something poke his face while he was sleeping or waking up to his phone ringing with an unknown number but when he answered it, it was all static.
Jennie stuffed some Cheerios into her mouth and raised an eyebrow at Billy. Like she had read his thoughts or something. She swallowed and said, “But isn’t that what the ghosts of people who were murdered do? They’re, uh, vengeful?” She pointed her spoon at Billy, “Maybe you look too much like Jason for him.”
“The only thing we have in common is that we both have blonde hair. Plus the guy is probably 50 now, the statute of limitations passed a long time ago,” Billy chewed on a bit of toast but it was dry in his mouth.
“We should try and speak with him.” Jennie sounded very intense suddenly, she was making direct eye contact, which she never did unless it was serious.
“What?”
“We should try and make contact with Eddie, get his side of the story bc all we have is rumours and Jason’s side,” Jennie passed Billy her phone with an old news article on the screen.
“Accidental death of a student at Our Lady Immaculate School” was the title of the article, dated 21st of March 1986. The article read:
“An accidental death of a student at Our Lady Immaculate School in Roane County, Indiana has been reported by Christine Cunningham, a senior year student.
The student in question, Edward Munson, was a 2nd time senior and a noted troublemaker. Having been sent to the school after being caught for defacement of public property in his hometown of Hawkins, Indiana. Munson had also been known to be involved with the game ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ and the heavy metal subgenre of music. He was also known to have a rivalry with the captain of the basketball team, Jason Carver.
Carver said, “Munson went against everything the school stood for and he was making moves on my girlfriend Chrissy. I told him to stay away but he challenged me to a fight. I was going to scare him away from Chrissy and we did fight but he fell down some stairs and didn’t move when we went to check.”
Coroner’s reports say that Munson died from a cervical fracture and that the death was accidental. However, some students at the school, who were associates of Munson, say that Munson was deliberately pushed down the stairs.”
In the article, there was a picture of Eddie, with the dates 30th May 1966 - 21st March 1986 underneath.
“Shit, he died when he was 19,” Billy muttered after he read the article.
“It’s sad, isn’t it?” Jennie took her phone back from Billy, “But I bet that the Carver dude is covering something up. It’s just a little too convenient that Eddie fell down some stairs when they fought.”
“So you want to contact Eddie to get his side of the story?”
“Yeah.”
“How are you going to do that?”
“Well, we are going to use an Ouija board tonight,” Jennie pushed her bowl away and grabbed her bag and pulled out what looked like a cassette player, “and if the Ouija board doesn’t work we can use this,” Billy looked at her confused, “It’s called a spiritbox, ghosts can use it to communicate via radio waves.”
Billy knew he couldn’t say no to Jennie at this point, but goddammit if he wasn’t curious if it would work.
“Ok, meet me at my dorm at midnight. We’ll try this shit and if it doesn’t work don’t say I didn’t tell you so.”
****
If they said they weren’t nervous, they’d be lying. Not because of the ghost that might be there but in case one of the nuns caught them in Billy’s dorm. There was a strict rule of no couples in each other’s dorms. No one said anything about same-sex couples, but Billy didn’t tell you that.
Jennie had come to the dorm at about 15 minutes past midnight, she said she would’ve been earlier but she had to take the long way because Sister Franklin was doing a round on the girl’s floor.
“I had to hide in the bathroom for ages, man, she was just standing in front of the stairs, it was creepy,” she shuddered like she had eaten something sour. She then set the Ouija board on the floor between her and Billy. The spiritbox was off to the side.
Billy felt a little stupid sitting cross-legged on the floor with his index fingers on the bottom corners of the planchette. Jennie was doing the same on the other side, but she looked like she was a little scared.
Her voice trembled a little when she asked, “Eddie? Are you here?”
It felt like a force from above moved the planchette under their fingers to the ‘yes’ on the board. Jennie gasped a little, the fear in her voice disappearing. Billy was doing a speedrun through the ‘accepting that ghosts are in fact, real gauntlet’.  The planchette moved around the board to say “I was waiting for you guys to notice me here. Especially you Billy”.
“Have you been haunting me?” Billy asked before he could stop himself.
“Thanks for noticing. Have been for the last month.”
This wasn’t real, was it? But Billy was awake, and he was actually talking to a ghost. If you told him he’d be doing this a month ago, he’d laugh in your face.
There was suddenly a blue glow above their heads, both Billy and Jennie looked up to see the ghost of Eddie Munson appear before them.
“Man, it’s nice to be able to appear in front of people again. Last time I did that, I think the guy had a heart attack,” Eddie talked very nonchalantly like it was no big deal that he had just altered the fabric of reality for Billy. He looked down at the two teenagers gawping at him, “Huh, nice to see you didn’t take down any of my stuff. And the uniform hasn’t changed either,” he gestured at the similar white shirt and black sweater he was wearing as well. Although Eddie had his tie loose around his neck.
“Why haven’t you moved on?” Jennie spoke first, ever the curious.
“Can’t,” Eddie answered simply. Like he had tried before. Billy had a feeling in his gut that it had something to do with Jason Carver.
“I’m missing something. I can’t remember what it was now, it’s been so long. Bet that bastard Carver hid it after he killed me,” Eddie floated around the room like he was pacing.
“Jason Carver really did kill you?” Jennie blurted out, “I thought that was a rumour!” She fumbled with her phone to pull up the article again. But her phone seemed to glitch in Eddie’s presence.
“Uh yeah? He pushed me down some stairs. Big news in the county,” Eddie’s tone took on a darker note, “and he got away with it.” Eddie’s glow got darker with his words, Billy could see now why they were called vengeful ghosts.
Billy’s throat felt dry, and a small part of him felt like running. But he spoke anyway, “I don’t know if we can do anything about Carver, he's like 50 now but we could help you find the thing you need to move on.”
Eddie’s glow went back to the light blue from before, but now it was a little warmer, “Really? You’d do that for me?” He seemed happy. How long had he gone ignored? Billy knew how that felt.
“Yeah, we would,” Billy nudged Jennie with his elbow, getting her to react too. She nodded quickly. Eddie floated down to be near the floor, almost like he was sitting with them.
“I could tell you what I remember, it’s not much though.”
*****
From what Eddie told them, it turns out that he was not in fact hitting on Chrissy Cunningham but selling her some weed. And she had broken up with Jason and he was mad about it, Chrissy had a thing for Eddie, and Jason had caught them maybe nearly kissing. And so Jason challenged him to a fight and told Eddie to meet him at his dorm. But Jason was waiting at the top of the stairs and pushed Eddie down them.
Billy had been thinking about what Eddie said, his bleeding heart went out for Eddie, he knew exactly how Eddie must’ve felt at that moment. Someone blowing up over a small infraction.
Reading the article again, Jason must’ve used the excuse of Eddie being a social pariah against him. Because how dare you be the social reject and be friendly towards the most popular girl in school?
He went back up to his dorm on lunch break, saying he wasn’t hungry to the other guys in the gym, Eddie was waiting for him.
“I thought you could only appear at night?” Billy dumped his gym bag by the desk.
“It's just harder in the daytime,” he flickered a little bit, “gotta concentrate more to stay visible.”
Billy nodded and opened his desk drawer to get his cigarettes. Technically, he wasn’t allowed in school but the reception lady didn’t bother to check his pockets. He opened his dorm window and lit the end. Breathed in the smoke and enjoyed the feeling of the nicotine buzz. He saw Eddie floating closer in his peripheral vision.
“Aww man, I haven’t had a cig in years…” He sounded like he was yearning for it.
“Can you even smoke? Like should I blow some smoke at you?” Would that even work?
“I dunno, you could try.”
Billy took another drag of the cigarette, and blew the smoke at Eddie. The other tried to breathe in the smoke before it flowed through his incorporeal body.
“Did that do anything for you?” Billy tapped the ash away on the edge of the window.
“Uh, I could feel something. Like when you walk by something that smells good? It’s like that.” Eddie reached out and put his hand on Billy’s shoulder. It felt cold. “Thanks for trying though.”
“If you died with your cigs in your pocket are they like ghost cigs now?”
Eddie looked at Billy like he had just slapped him in the face. Then burst out laughing. As he was laughing he lost control of his floating and he rose up to the ceiling like a helium balloon. Once he could breathe again, he admitted that the ghost thing doesn’t quite work like that.
“We only really keep stuff that meant a lot to us in life,” Eddie raised his hand to show some rings on his fingers, they looked like ones Billy would find at a flea market back home. Billy had a fleeting thought of him keeping his St Christopher’s pendant if he was a ghost. Eddie for a moment, looked like he got an electric shock.
“My pick!” He looked down his shirt, “My guitar pick! I kept it on a necklace and I think it’s what I need to move on!”
Billy’s brain was going a million miles a minute, so if Eddie got this guitar pick he’d be able to pass over to the afterlife? He guessed it was something to do with him being very attached to it in his lifetime. But also he kind of didn’t want Eddie to go, it was nice having him around, almost like a really annoying roommate.
“Helloooooo, earth to Billy, are you there?” Eddie was floating face-to-face with Billy. He grinned when Billy flinched backwards. “Whatcha thinkin’ about?”
Once Billy’s heart stopped jackhammering in his chest he told Eddie some white lie about how he and Jennie were going to try and look for Eddie’s guitar pick tonight. Eddie did some backflips in the air and pumped his fist. He genuinely did seem excited about this.
“At night I’ll be able to move around more so I can help you guys, I think I might have an idea of where it is,” If ghosts could get a sugar rush, this is how Billy would think it looked like. Eddie was floating around the room again muttering stuff about the Hellfire Club and the theatre room. Theatre room? There wasn’t a theatre room mentioned when Billy came to this school.
“Uh, one small problem Eddie, there isn’t a theatre room here,” Billy felt like he was stating the obvious but maybe Eddie didn’t know that the theatre room that was there when he was a student might be gone now.
“Sure there is, they just don’t use it because it’s haunted,” Eddie put the last word in quotation marks with his fingers.
“You’ve been haunting this theatre room? Jennie is gonna flip her shit when she hears that,” Billy rubbed one eye, sighing in exasperation. “Alright I’ve got to leave for class but here’s the deal. Me and Jennie will meet you by the back door to the school grounds after the nuns have done their nighttime prayers. You show us where this theatre room is and we’ll look for your guitar pick. Sounds good?”
Eddie was in ghost-sugar rush mode again, Billy thought he kind of looked like a ping-pong ball bouncing around the room. “I’ll be by the stairs ok!” He told Billy just before the other left the dorm again.
*****
Jennie was just as excited as Eddie was, Billy half-thought that she would start floating around the room.
“If this actually works, what’s gonna happen to you Eddie?” Jennie was asking a million questions, like she was interviewing Eddie. Eddie floated a few paces in front of Billy and Jennie, leading them to the abandoned theatre room.
Eddie turned to face them, his glow was a lot brighter in the nighttime. “Well, I’ll just move on. Like, I won’t be here anymore.”
“You just disappear?”
“Yeah. Think so anyway.”
Billy was quiet as he followed the other two, he was still thinking that he didn’t really want Eddie to go, but if that made Eddie happy, he wouldn’t stop him. It must’ve been kinda sad, seeing everything change around you but you’re still the same. All of his friends must’ve grown up and forgotten about him right?
“We’re here,” Eddie stopped in front of an old side building to the west of campus. It looked like a storage container to Billy, in fact he had seen it when he was dropped off at campus by his dad and he had assumed it was where sports equipment was kept.
Eddie went ahead and floated through the wall, yelling for the other two to come along with him. Unfortunately for them the door was locked and they couldn’t phase through a solid wall. Jennie rattled the door handle to get Eddie’s attention again.
“Is the door locked? Oh uh, I figured it wouldn’t be,” Eddie’s head appeared outside of the door.
Billy crouched at the locked door and pulled some wires from his pocket, sliding the wires in, he started to poke around until he found the locking mechanism. A few more pokes and he heard the click of the door unlocking.
“Where did you learn how to pick locks?” Jennie blurted out when Billy stood back up. He opened the door to Eddie floating there in amazement. “It’s a long story,” he muttered. “Are we gonna find this guitar pick or not?” he really didn’t want to go into why he got sent to this school right now.
“Should I uh, lead the way?” Eddie made some grand gestures like he was welcoming them to a grand hotel.
The only light in the room was the glow from Eddie, with the dark shapes cast by whatever was in the room, it looked like something out of a horror B movie. Billy and Jennie were tripping over stuff, themselves, each other until the were drowned in the overhead lights.
“That better for you guys?” Eddie called from somewhere in the distance. The room looked like a theatre nerd’s wet dream, there was a fucking throne in the room for god’s sake! Chalets lined the dust covered table, which itself was littered with dice and bits of paper that were scrawled with drawings of elves and some numbers that meant nothing to Billy. Eddie was floating in a sitting position in the throne. Like it was his, it probably was.
“Was this the- the Hellfire Club?” Jennie sounded amazed by all that was around her, eyes taking in everything. Some of the stuff in here reminded Billy of the mountain hall in the Fellowship of the Ring, maybe Eddie was a fan when he was alive.
“You’d be right, this was indeed where brave adventurers gathered to take on the wrath of the dark lord Vecna. Where-”
Billy wasn’t listening to Eddie anymore, he was wandering about the room, looking for anything that might be Eddie’s guitar pick necklace. If he was going to be honest, he just wanted to find it quickly and rip off the bandaid of Eddie leaving. Easier that way.
Then, he found the photo.
It was just a polaroid but it was of Eddie and his friends from 1985, they were smiling and the photo was so full of joy. The Eddie in the photo didn’t know that he’d be stuck at 19 while the rest of his friends got to grow up and move on with their lives.
“That photo huh?” Eddie was now beside Billy, “God, man Gareth was such a goof. I saw him at the ten year reunion in ‘97. He’d gotten married and was gonna be a dad,” he pointed the smaller boy with a flannel shirt in the photo. “And Jeff?” he now pointed to the tallest boy in the photo, “he got into Stanford on a scholarship, always the brains of the operation in here.” Eddie sounded wistfully nostalgic about the time he had with them but Billy didn’t miss the sad note in his voice.
“Eddie, do you wanna stay?” Billy asked quietly.
Eddie for once, was speechless. Was his brain short-circuiting? He looked like he was buffering.
“Stay? What do you mean?”
Billy turned to face Eddie, “I mean stay here with me and Jennie. You’ve probably been so lonely for years, and honestly, I don’t want you to go.” He felt more vulnerable than he had in months, just as much as when he admitted his feelings for that boy back on the beach in California and feeling his stomach rise and fall with the waves. He just hoped that Eddie wouldn’t throw him in the deep end.
“I never thought about that…” Eddie trailed off, as if he was unsure what to say, “I, I don’t think I wanna go either. Even if I can only hang around with you guys outside of the school building at night.” Eddie chewed his lower lip, waiting for Billy to say something, anything.
“I uh… maybe…” Billy started to speak again but was interrupted by Jennie holding a leather cord with a guitar pick strung on it. “Found it in the box behind the throne,” she held the necklace out to Eddie. But I um… might have been eavesdropping and I don’t want you to go either Eddie.” Jennie blushed and turned away, like she had just admitted to having a crush.
Eddie looked happier than either Billy or Jennie had ever seen him, maybe there was a little tear in his eye but no one was going to bring attention to it. Maybe the afterlife didn’t have to be the end for Eddie Munson.

Stuck Together - Mungrove Week Prompt 5
Written for @mungroveweek
I just wanted to write something silly :3
“C’monnnnn Billy, it’ll be fun, you said,” Billy grumbled for the third time like he hadn’t agreed to go to the corn maze with Eddie. In fact, he said he hadn’t thought that they were real and just a thing made up for TV shows. Good luck with not having a corn maze at a Midwest state fair.
“Hey! Not my fault we got lost!” Eddie was starting to get frustrated too, he thought he had a great sense of direction but when everything looked the same he was stumped.
“No, it absolutely is your fault we’re lost!” Billy looked like he was ready to burn the whole maze down. If he hadn’t had his lighter confiscated at the entrance to the maze, he probably would’ve. They were faced with a fork in the road. To the left was corn, and to the right, more corn. Either way, they were still lost.
The sun beat down on their backs, and Eddie’s hair was a mess from the humidity. Even with the ton of Aquanet Billy put in his hair couldn’t tame the flyaways from the heat. As soon as Eddie got back to the trailer he was going to sit in front of the freezer for a bit. Or fill the old paddling pool with the hose and throw in some ice. Eddie was sure he looked pretty gross at the moment, sometimes he regretted only owning black t-shirts.
“Uh, you wanna flip a coin to see which way we go?” Eddie rummaged in his pocket for the quarter he was sure he had. Just before he flipped it, Billy snorted at him.
“That’s your idea? How do you know we won’t get more lost?”
Eddie raised an eyebrow at him, “You got any ideas sunshine?”
To give Billy his dues, he knew when he was beat. Eddie flipped the coin. Heads. So they were taking the left path. They walked for what seemed like half an hour and Eddie couldn’t tell whether they were closer or farther from the exit. He was starting to resign himself to becoming one of those skeletons in a maze that were set up at Halloween.
“Maybe we could walk through the corn?” Billy tested this by trying to move a stalk out of the way but it stood firm.
“Maybe if you wanted to get ten million tick bites and die,” Eddie grumbled. He knew he was being an asshole but he also really wanted to get out of this maze and get something cold to drink. Billy stormed off down the path and Eddie had to follow him, Billy was very much not talking to him. Eddie was sure he was also feeling the humidity-included asshole-ish-ness.
“Billy, wait up,” Eddie was somehow out of breath from following Billy for he doesn’t really know how long. Maybe he should’ve listened to Coach Roberts and kicked the smoking habit. Billy stopped dead in his tracks and Eddie walked into him, toppling them both over. If someone else saw them as they were now, they would have some explaining to do.
Eddie couldn’t help but laugh. The situation was so ridiculous that it was hard not to. Even Billy was trying to hold in his laughter. Eddie rolled off of him into the dust on the ground. Billy sat up, his white shirt covered in the dust as well, Eddie couldn’t tell from where he was but he was sure there was dust in Billy’s hair too.
“Real smooth Munson,” Billy dusted himself off. He leant a hand to Eddie after he got up, pulling Eddie from the ground. “We gonna get out of here, without any more accidents?”
“Only if you’ll get me a popsicle once we see the ice cream stand.”
“Deal.”

All I ever wanted, all I ever needed - Mungrove Week prompt 4
Written for @mungroveweek
ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/46446061
nsfw, minors dni.
At Billie’s insistence, they were taking the Camaro to San Diego. She had said something about Eddie’s van being a ‘hunk of junk’ that would probably take them 3 years to get there.
“There’s hardly any room for anything!” Eddie had complained when she was shoving her duffel bag into the back seat alongside Billie’s.
“Edith,” Billie warned when Eddie flopped into the passenger seat and put her feet up on the dash. Billie knew she was a bit ridiculous about keeping her car clean and as much as she loved her girlfriend she also didn’t want muddy footprints on her dash. It was hard enough to get Max to stop doing that.
Time for the ultimatum, “I’ll let you pick the music if you keep your feet off of the dash.”
That got Eddie’s attention. Her feet immediately fell from the dash and she was rummaging through the glove box for cassette tapes. Billie got in the car and started the engine while Eddie cranked up the volume on Black Sabbath’s Iron Man. Billie looked over in adoration while Eddie did some air guitar along to it.
They pulled out of the trailer park and set onto the I-40 to San Diego.
******
They were going at a smooth 65mph on the highway. Billie had opened the windows to let some air in, this summer had been a humid and sticky one in Indiana. Although Billie was from California, the summers there had been spent at the beach where you could easily cool down by jumping into the ocean. In Indiana though, not much luck.
Eddie had her head outside the window, long brown hair blowing in the wind. Billie could see the dusting of freckles on her nose, god, she found that so cute. If she didn’t have to focus on the road she’d be happy just watching Eddie.
The speakers in the Camaro were playing as loud as they could, Dave Gahan singing about everything he ever needed being in his arms. This was her’s and Eddie’s song, they had danced to it after their first date. It was sappy to admit but Eddie was everything Billie had ever needed, she made her laugh, she was kind, and great in the sack but don’t tell Eddie that Billie had said that.
Eddie was singing along in that gorgeous, little bit husky voice of hers. Billie could listen to it all day long.
“All I ever wanted, all I ever needed, is here in my arms. Words are very unnecessary. They can only do harm,” she then mimicked the drum hits with her fingers.  Billie smiled to herself, her girlfriend was an absolute dork and she loved her so much. Billie didn’t notice that Eddie was looking at her too.
*****
They were somewhere in Missouri when Eddie was starting to get antsy. She was fidgeting in her seat and tapping her fingers on her thighs. Billie decided to pull over at a turnout so they could both stretch their legs. Being Missouri, the spot they stopped at was a whole load of nothing but Eddie was grateful regardless.
“Man, I bet someone heard my knees crack in like fucking Texas!” Eddie laughed as she kicked her legs about for a couple of seconds. Billie lit a cigarette and took a drag, almost groaning at her first chance to have a smoke in at least 5 hours.
“You gonna share that, gorgeous?” Eddie was right in front of her, close enough that Billie could see the small flecks of amber in her dark eyes. Billie leaned in and pressed her lips to Eddie’s, passing along the drag of smoke she had in her lungs. She pulled back and watched Eddie blow a couple of smoke rings.
“When’d you learn to do that?” Billie raised an eyebrow, batting her eyelashes at Eddie.
“A magician never reveals her secrets,” Eddie said with a wink.
****
They were just outside Fort Worth when they decided to stop for the night. They stopped by a gas station to fuel up for the morning and also to grab more smokes and drinks. Billie sent Eddie in with 20 dollars while she stood at the gas pump. She watched the price raise with each tick of the pump. When she was finished and entered the gas station to pay, she was met with the sight of the gas station employee trying to hit on Eddie. Badly.
“So uh, you’re not from here uh,” the guy stuttered through his pick-up line. It was kind of endearing in a way.
Eddie chuckled, “Yeah I’m not, but I just wanna pay for the beer and smokes.” It was letting him down gently, and he seemed a little put out but took it in his stride and completed the transaction. Eddie took her stuff and winked at Billie before she went back to the car.
Gas station guy got a second wind once he saw Billie. So she put on what Eddie called her “maneater smile” and went to the counter. The guy puffed up his chest and tried to push the hair out of his eyes.
“Hey, can I pay for the gas on pump three?” Billie tapped a nail on the counter while the guy fumbled with the till for a bit.
“T-that’ll be 50 dollars and 23 cents. And your number.”
Show time.
“Ok buddy, I’ll humour you.” Billie leaned onto the counter with her elbows, she was not above using her assets, shall we say. “You seem like a nice guy, but I’m afraid that I appreciate the female form more.” she slapped 51 dollars onto the counter and started to walk away. “Keep the change,” she called over her shoulder.
Eddie was waiting for her outside. “I heard that,” she laughed.
Billie rolled her eyes, of course Eddie couldn’t help but eavesdrop.
“It was super hot though, Can’t wait for you to boss me around like that.” Eddie shoulder bumped Billie and walked to the car. Billie couldn’t help but short-circuit for a second. She would love that. She needed to find a motel STAT.
They found a motel on the outskirts of the city, it was a small place but they’d only be staying the night.
As soon as the door was closed, Eddie pushed Billie against it and started kissing her like their life depended on it. Billie’s lipstick was getting smeared but she didn’t care, she just wanted Eddie NOW. She groaned when Eddie cupped one of her boobs and gave a slight squeeze.
“Nuh, Eddie…” Eddie was now slipping a hand into her jeans, fingers teasing at her clit. “C’mon, bed- ah…” Eddie was sucking a hickey onto where her neck joined her shoulder. Billie ground her hips into hand, her thighs felt tighter as the pleasure grew.
“You gonna come?” Eddie whispered huskily into her ear. Not yet, Billie thought as she snaked her hands between their bodies and shoved Eddie backwards a bit. “You’re gonna have to work for it Munson,” she said in a dark, sultry tone. They both made quick work of their clothes, leaving only their underwear on. Billie loved how Eddie’s pale skin contrasted with the black ink of her tattoos.
“God, Bills you look so good in the red set,” Eddie lay back on the bed, spreading her legs, “Makes me so wet,” she allowed Billie to straddle her, and to grab at her boobs, rolling her thumbs arcross the nipple. Eddie whimpered, especially when Billie took off her bra and sucked at one of them.
Billie shuffled her hips back a bit, grinding her wet cunt against Eddie’s. Both girls groaned at the stimulation. Billie stopped sucking at Eddie’s nipple to latch on to the side of her neck, kissing and leaving red kiss marks in her wake. Eddie keened at it, and whined a little when Billie pulled away.
“Now everyone knows you’re mine,” Billie surveyed her handiwork. Eddie’s chest was heaving and she had a rouge dusting over her cheeks and ears. She looked like a work of art with her dark hair fanning out behind her head. An artwork that only Billie got to see. She then rolled off of the other girl and tugged down her panties, “show me what that mouth can do huh?”
Eddie didn’t need to be told twice, Billie’s toes curled at the feeling of a warm tongue lapping at her entrance, Eddie lifted Billie’s hips a little for easier access and Billie slapped a hand over her mouth for fear of shouting when Eddie poked her tongue inside her a little.
“Ohmygod Edddieeeee,” Billie groaned and squeezed her thighs around Eddie’s head. If Eddie kept going like this, she wasn’t going to last. She tangled her fingers into Eddie’s hair and pressed Eddie’s mouth against her when the other girl started to suck at her clit. Oh god, she was so close.
“I’m gonna… Eddie!” Billie’s back arched and her gut seized. Her orgasm crashing into her like a wave. Her thighs shook, and she felt like she had run a marathon when she came down from the high. “Oh my god Eds, that was so good,” Billie pulled down Eddie for a kiss, tasting her own come on Eddie’s lips.
Eddie laughed and touched her forehead to Billie’s, “you make such cute noises when I eat you out.” Billie blushed at being called cute and rolled them both over so she was on top again.
“What are you going to do to me now?” Eddie said it like it was challenge, knowing that it would rile Billie up a bit. And it worked.
Billie pulled Eddie’s panties down with her teeth and grinned sharklike up at Eddie. Eddie squeaked when Billie spread some lube at her entrance.
“Shit! That’s cold!” They both laughed at this, Billie giggling that Eddie was such a goob. “But I’m your goob right?” Eddie retorted. Billie kissed the inside of Eddie’s thigh and gently eased a finger into her. Eddie sighed and arched her back a little when Billie found her g-spot. Billie massaged the spot until Eddie was begging for more, she pulled her finger out and laid herself on top of Eddie.
“And why should I do that?” Billie teased her fingers at Eddie’s clit, just enough that Eddie could feel something but it wasn’t enough that it was be pleasurable. Eddie whined and bucked her hips, trying to get more stimulation but Billie moved her finger away when Eddie moved.
Eddie couldn’t really talk apart from frustrated whines, she trailed her hand down Billie’s back and grabbed her ass to push their hips together. The room filled with the sounds of slick flesh meeting and their groans and whimpers.
“Ah, Eddie! Ah!” Billie could feel the tightness in the pit of her stomach again, she was getting close again with Eddie’s grinding. Eddie moved them both so they were sitting, she reached a hand in between them to rub at Billie’s clit again, Billie whined and pressed herself against Eddie, grinding with more urgency.
Eddie was repeating, “Billie, Billie, Billie,” under her breath, stuttering as she got closer and closer. They held each other close as they both came, both breathing heavily as they went through the waves of pleasure. They both lay down on the bed, blissed out.
To each other, they were everything they ever wanted, everything they ever needed.

In my arms, you can be safe (Mungrove Week prompt 2)
Written for @mungroveweek
Ao3 link: In my arms you can be safe
Eddie was a very expressive person, it was like he had to be touching Billy in some way or he’d die. He’d always be throwing his arm around Billy’s neck or poking him to get his attention. Sometimes Billy welcomed it, sometimes he’d throw Eddie’s arm off him and stomp away. Eddie always knew Billy was well, prickly at times.
“Look man, I’m not meaning anything bad when I’m being friendly to you,” Eddie looked over to where Billy was leaning out of his bedroom window, smoking a cigarette. Billy didn’t say anything, which Eddie knew meant ‘I know I’ve been a dick but I don’t know how to explain how I’m feeling’. Scorpions were playing softly over Eddie’s stereo as per Billy’s request, not too loud as to make his head pound even more than it already was.
“I know you don’t mean anything Eds, it’s just…” Billy’s voice was hoarse from when he’d shown up at the trailer, blood dripping from a small cut at his hairline, eyes red and full of tears. “I, I don’t know.”
Once again, Eddie’s heart broke this evening. He wanted to make Billy feel better, oh god he did, but he didn’t know how to without probably making Billy feel worse. Eddie stood beside Billy now, the other acknowledging his presence by passing over the cigarette. Eddie thought Marlboros tasted like shit but he accepted the cigarette.
“Eddie, you don’t… you don’t have to go out of your way to be friendly to me,” Billy’s tone took on much more guilt than Eddie liked to hear. It was like seeing a former fighting dog get used to being treated like a dog for the first time.
“What if I told you that I wanted to be friendly towards you?” Eddie passed back the cigarette after he grimaced at the tar bomb that was Marlboro Reds.
Billy seemed to have frozen in time, the cigarette between his fingers burning down steadily to the filter. Eddie had never seen the guy speechless. Billy always had a quick one-liner or snarky remark on the tip of his tongue. Now he looked like he was choking on the words in his throat. Now, Eddie wasn’t great in these situations either, his problem was he could never shut the hell up.
“Like, uh, I think we’re friends at least?” Eddie was starting to ramble now, the words coming out like a dam had burst, “I dunno man, I want to be your friend, and I want to be kind towards you. I-It’s ok to accept kindness y’know? That’s what Wayne told me when I came to live with him,” why the hell was Eddie telling him all this? It just came out, hopefully, it made Billy feel a little better. Or maybe it would make Billy think he was some sort of sap.
Eddie didn’t expect Billy to come over and put his head on Eddie’s shoulder. Billy kept his eyes trained at some point in the distance, his body tense as if he was going to bolt at any second, Eddie thought that he was probably thinking of doing that, Eddie could tell he was fighting between his instincts and what he wanted.
It was the first time Eddie had seen Billy actually be vulnerable, the other boy had always been standoffish and somewhat like he was trying to prove something, as they had gotten closer Eddie had found out that Billy was more sensitive than he let on, he liked pineapple on pizza but hated mushrooms. He spent at least 30 minutes a day on his hair, mostly making sure his little Superman curl was sitting right. He hated The Hobbit but loved The Fellowship of the Ring. He fed the stray cats around the trailer park, and the possums too. He cried at the scene with the horse in The Neverending Story, he was in his absolute element dancing around to Motley Crue.
“I’m sorry.”
So quiet, it was almost imperceptible, Eddie’s heart was hammering in his chest. The warmth from Billy’s body was seeping through the sleeve of his jacket, he watched the gentle rise and fall of Billy’s chest as he breathed.
“You don’t have anything to apologise for, and uh, I’m sorry for making you feel uncomfortable,” Eddie knew that there were two blue eyes focused on him, Billy bit his lip, he clearly wanted to say something but didn’t know how. “Can I give you a hug?”
Billy nodded and allowed Eddie to take him into his arms, one of Billy’s curls tickled under his nose, and he kind of had to stand on his tiptoes to get Billy’s head under his chin but he wouldn’t change this for the world. Billy even allowing him to do this meant more about how much he trusted Eddie than he could ever say.  Neither of them said anything but neither needed to. Eddie felt Billy slowly move his arms to hug Eddie as well, a small smile drifted across his face when he felt Billy’s arms around him. All the tension had left Billy’s body, he was allowing himself to melt into the hug. Eddie let out a small chuckle when Billy muttered something about this being nice.
“Are you gonna let me have a look at that cut Tiger?” Eddie spoke quietly, not wanting to sound like he was forcing Billy or anything. Eddie gently pushed Billy’s hair to the side once the blond had nodded, the cut was small but the amount it had bled made it look worse. Eddie didn’t even need to ask who gave him the injury, the answer was obvious. There was the start of a bruise on his brow.
“Might need a bit of ice, but I think it’ll be ok,” Eddie untangled himself from Billy’s arms to go and get the bag of frozen peas from the small chiller in the kitchen. He also grabbed a couple of blue raspberry popsicles, he would have preferred ice cream in this sort of situation but Billy was lactose intolerant and he had finished the last of the cookie dough last night. When he came back with the peas and popsicles, Billy was curled up in a ball on his bed.
“Woah, hey big cat, what’s up?” Eddie scrambled to kneel by his bed, he wasn’t sure if Billy wanted to be touched. Billy had started crying again, but it looked like each sob hurt him which made Eddie worry even more.
“Hurts,” Billy mumbled, wincing when he curled into himself more.
“What hurts? Your ribs?” Eddie gently lifted the hem of Billy’s shirt, he could see the telltale patchy bruising that usually leads to a darker, more deep and painful one. What Eddie expected, wasn’t this. The skin around Billy’s rib was black and blue. He could tell that this bruising was deep, possibly even needing hospital attention. As if Billy could read his mind, Billy denied the unsaid offer of going to the hospital. Because then they would be asking questions.
“Please tell me what I can do to help,” Eddie gently pressed the bag of peas to Billy's ribs, hoping that the coldness would help, he wondered if something warm would be better.
“Just stay here.” Yeah, Eddie could do that.
Eddie talked about mundane things to keep both his and Billy’s, mostly his, minds from wandering. He talked about the new fantasy book he’d loaned out from the library and the huge sandworm monsters that were in it, “The book’s fucking huge man! But it’s so good.” He talked about the new live Slayer album that had just been released and how it might be next year until the tiny record shop in Hawkins got it.
“Heard a rumour that Tommy Hagan and Carol Perkins broke up again, and then Tommy slipped on a banana peel, yeah like in cartoons, trying to impress her again,” Eddie delved into talking about shit that had happened in the school cafeteria since Billy had missed a couple of days. He got a small huff of laughter from the animated way he was telling the story.
“And he tries to get up and falls over again-” Eddie was cut off by a small snore from Billy. Billy looked somewhat angelic while he slept, with no sneers or furrowed eyebrows. Eddie could see all the freckles that dusted his nose and how long his eyelashes were. It kinda broke the ‘bad boy’ illusion that Billy tried to put on but still oh-so Billy. Eddie pushed away the curl that fell into Billy’s face, the popsicles he got from the freezer long forgotten.
“You get some rest B. I’ll stay here as long as you like.”

Adventures at Camp Sequoia - Mungrove Week prompt 3
Written for @mungroveweek
Ao3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/46419631
1.7k words.
Eddie stepped off the bus that dropped him and some of the other campers off at Camp Sequoia in the woods of Northern California. It was a small camp with wooden cabins for the campers which formed a semi-circle around a campfire in the centre. There was also a big Cabin on the opposite side of the smaller cabins where the staff would sleep. Eddie would be in Cabin 3 with the other boys in his age group. He thought he was lucky because he was the only one who didn’t have to share a bunk.
He ran over to his cabin and swung the door open, there was only one other boy in the cabin with him. A smaller boy with curly blonde hair. Eddie hadn’t seen him before, he figured he must be new.
“Uh that’s my bunk,” Eddie pointed to where the other boy was lying on his stomach on the bottom bed, reading a book. The boy looked at him, annoyed and said, “There’s two beds,” and turned back to his book.
Eddie couldn’t explain why this change made him so mad. He never shared a bunk, in all of the three years he had been coming to camp. He tried to avoid the new boy, whose name he learned was Billy, but they got paired up for a lot of their activities. Billy was just a little jerk in Eddie’s opinion, Eddie was older than him so why was he the one getting pushed about?
The counsellors told him that Billy was probably just shy but shy people didn’t act like massive buttholes in Eddie’s opinion. It was like Billy did want to start a fight sometimes.
Billy would spend a lot of time alone when he wasn’t doing any camp activities, and Eddie couldn’t help but feel like he looked lonely. Billy always looked kinda sad when he was alone. So did he want people to play with him or did he want people to leave him alone? If Eddie tried to go up to him, he’d be yelled at. But there was one time that Eddie was sure he saw Billy crying, so Eddie was sure that Billy wanted friends but didn’t know how to make them so Eddie decided that he was going to make friends with Billy.
******
Eddie would not leave Billy alone, always trying to speak to him or trying to make him laugh. To Billy, it seemed like his little world at camp had flipped on its head. He thought Eddie didn’t like him. He must be trying to make fun of him. There was no other reason, right?
Eddie would always pick him to be his partner for any group activity, he’d sit next to Billy at mealtimes, and he’d talk quietly with Billy in their bunk when they were supposed to be asleep. Or until Billy threw a pillow at him.
Billy was trying his best to ignore Eddie until one night.
Eddie had said that he had found something cool in the woods and that he wanted to show Billy. Billy refused at first, but Eddie called him a wimp and Billy wasn’t a wimp!
“Are you suuuuuure you want to see it? ‘Cause we’re gonna have to sneak out of the cabin at night and I dunno, you might get scared,” Eddie dragged his foot in the dirt by the cabin. Eddie had only found the time to speak to Billy just before dinner. He had been in the group that was going out to learn about foraging wild berries and he saw the thing while he was out. Billy had been part of the group that went to a nearby vegetable farm and picked some tomatoes.
“I’m not scared of the dark! Tell me what you found!” Billy crossed his arms and glared at Eddie.
“I’m not telling you, you gotta come see!” Eddie started to run to the mess hall, the counsellors were calling them over, Billy hot on his heels.  Billy whispered that Eddie better be showing him something cool or else while they were waiting in line while the counsellors did roll-call for dinner.  There were three long tables in the mess hall, one for the staff and the other two for the campers. For once, Billy was the one to seek out the seat next to Eddie when they had gotten their portions of pasta in red sauce.
“Meet me by the campfire when everyone else is asleep, ok?” Eddie whispered to Billy, although he didn’t need to, the mess hall was loud enough that they could speak and no one would bother them.
Billy wasn’t really convinced that Eddie wasn’t pulling his leg but agreed to come anyway.
******
The embers of the campfire were dwindling in the pit, the last bits of warmth being lost to the night. It was still warm enough to not wear a sweatshirt, and the sun was still glowing orange in the trees. Eddie was waiting by the campfire bench, he was fiddling with his guitar pick necklace, nervous that Billy wouldn’t show up.
Eddie was about to sneak back into the cabin when he heard a twig snap. A counsellor? Aw man, now he’s gotta hide…
“Eddie, why are you hiding behind the bench?” Ok, that voice was not one of the counsellors. Billy was standing in front of him with a stuffed animal. His hair was squished on one side as if he had been asleep.
“I thought you were one of the counsellors! Why are you bringing a plushie?” Eddie’s eyes latched on to the plushie in Billy’s arms. Eddie wasn’t sure if he had seen anything like it, it was like a dolphin but bigger and was black with white markings.
“I was hiding a flashlight behind it,” Billy huffed, thrusting the flashlight out at Eddie, “Have to make sure you don’t die out there.”
“I’m not scared, you’re the one who brought a plushie!” Eddie had a feeling that he might leave Billy here and let the counsellors find him. Eddie took the flashlight and started to leave towards the woods. Billy was right beside him still clutching the plush toy.
The woods were full of things that made noises in the night, and trees that were bigger than the cabins back at camp. He wasn’t going to tell Billy but he was glad that the smaller boy was here with him. He didn’t realise that the woods would be creepy at night. Billy looked like he felt the same way.
“What animal is your plushie?” Eddie didn’t like the silence, only interrupted by their footsteps or a cicada.
“It’s an orca, her name is Lucy,” Billy seemed grateful for some small talk, he was holding his orca close to him like it could shield him from whatever could jump out at them.  An orca. Eddie thought he had read something in a book about them once. But Billy was already talking about them.
“Orcas are cool! Waaaaaay cooler than dolphins. Orcas are super fast and the male ones' big fin can be up to two metres, “ Billy raised his hands into the air to illustrate his point, “and the females have a smaller big fin but they’re uh-” Billy scrunched his nose as he thought for the right word, “Curved? Like, the tip is bent a little bit.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen an orca,” Eddie felt kind of happy to see Billy so happy about orcas. Billy got a really big smile on his face from talking about them and Eddie thought that was way better than a glare.
“We see them all the time in San Diego, they don’t come near people tho- EEP!” Billy yelped halfway through his sentence because he bumped into Eddie who had stopped in his tracks.
“What the heck Eddie?” Billy started to complain but Eddie shushed him and pointed to a small hole in the tree in front of him. Billy stood on his tip-toes to see better, his eyes widened when he saw a white face pop out of the hole.
It was a mother possum and her three babies, all piled on her back. She scaled over the nearest branch and licked her paws to scrub them over her face.
“My Uncle Wayne told me about the possums back where he’s from in Appuh-latch-uh” Eddie was careful to pronounce the last word right, it was one of Wayne’s pet peeves when people pronounced Appalachia wrong. They watched the mama possum scurry up and down the tree, searching for food for her babies. She came down about halfway and looked at the two boys in front of her.
Billy was a little uneasy, he had never seen a possum before and he wasn’t sure if they were friendly. Eddie on the other hand was ecstatic about seeing the possum again, he rummaged in the pocket of his shorts for a few Cheez-Its he had taken from the snack table earlier on. He was careful not to make any sudden moves to scare off the possum, he put the Cheez-Its at the base of the tree. The possum watched Eddie curiously, and when he backed off, she went to sniff at the snacks.
“Maybe she doesn’t like Cheez-Its,” Billy whispered in awe, he thought the baby possums were kinda cute. All stacked up on top of their mama’s back.
“Possums’ll eat anything,” Eddie whispered back, as he did so the mama possum picked up a biscuit and started to nibble. Eddie was completely mesmerised watching the possum eat that he didn’t notice Billy tugging at his shirt.
“What-” Eddie didn’t finish his sentence because a counsellor was berating him and Billy for being out of their beds, and in the woods, no less. The counsellor said stuff like “You could have got lost!” and, “We were worried sick!” They were marched back to camp and sent to bed. But Eddie was too wired to sleep.
“Psst, Billy,” Eddie leaned his head over the edge of his bunk to see if his friend was still awake. He saw a pair of blue eyes look back up at him.
“Yeah?”
“Are we friends now? Y’know since I showed you a cool thing?”
“Yeah.”
