Pistoia (Tuscany). Church of San Giovanni Evangelista Fuorcivitas (1119 taq). Romanesque complex in the center of Pistoia. The original Longobard church was located outside the first circle of city walls. The current building dates back to the 12th century. The long northern side overlooked the walls, while on the opposite side was the cloister. The façade and apse are compressed by the subsequent constructions and are barely visible on the outside, so much so that this anomaly makes the façade consider the north side, which bears the rich portal with the lintel sculpted and signed by the master Gruamonte in the center the Last Supper (1166). The work shows Jesus at the table with eleven apostles, while Judas is depicted at the bottom before him, to emphasize his extraneousness to the holiness of the group. The side has a characteristic Romanesque ornamentation in Pistoia, which mimics the wall masonry typical of the Pisan Romanesque style, with rows of small arches on pilasters or small columns with small windows and lozenges that are inscribed in the arches, but created using a white and green (marble and serpentine from Prato). Unfortunately the church was closed and it was not possible to visit the works and the complexity of the interiors (apse and facade inversion). It seems that even the current bar San Giovanni was part of the church and was exactly part of the apse, then separated with the transformation into a façade, this is evident from the outward appearance, confirmed also by a plaque affixed to the side wall of the bar. #sangiovannievangelista #fuorcivitas #romanico #pistoia #tuscany #longobard #cloister #apse #facade #richportal #lastsupper #gruamonte #complexity #bar #inversion #vacation #igtravel #tourist #travelingram #traveling #visiting #instatravel #travelling #instatraveling #travelgram #estremisti #ilmiolibro #sovversivi #massimopistis #alettieditore Information for the purchase of my new book: the book at a cost of 12.00 euros (120 pages), can be ordered in bookstores (ISBN 978-88-591-5719-9 - Publisher Aletti) or online on the page http: //www.alettieditore.it/emersi/2019/pistis.html from the link below. https://www.instagram.com/p/BvZ4qgrFW8_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11p9v0z0mgdo9

Pistoia (Tuscany). Church of San Bartolomeo in Pantano (VIII century). Romanico Pistoiese. The abbey was thus defined in the fourteenth century for the swampy place where it arose. However, its foundation dates back to the Lombard period by the Benedictines and the Tusci. In the fifteenth century the Rocchettini (Augustinians) took over. The façade is adorned with five arches supported by slender columns and bordered with bands of dicrome marble; the two-color repeats itself in different areas of the façade and recalls other similar buildings in Pistoia. From the Romanesque period the lions remain at the corners and in support of the central arch and an architrave attributed to Gruamonte. The wooden crucifix of the high altar is the work of a sculptor near Pisano. #pistoia #tuscany #sanbartolomeo #pantano #romanico #pistoiese #longobardi #tusci #dicrome #lions #architrave #church #abbey #swampy #convent #pisano #travel #traveling #visiting #instatravel #trip #travelling #tourism #instapassport #instatraveling #travelgram #travelingram #estremisti #massimopistis #alettieditore https://www.instagram.com/p/BuAMZMBFkqf/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=164wk12dmaaql
