Francesco is the begrudging sunshine protector. He really doesn't want to be the sunshine protector, but for whatever reason, God keeps giving him sunshines to protect and Francesco can't understand why for the life of him.
First is his brother, who is basically a Sunshine golden retriever and there is no way Francesco is letting anyone hurt him. Then there is his sister-in-law, who is in her own way a sunshine, but also a spitfire, but is small so must also be protected.
Then there is Clarice, who is a sweet small quiet sunshine so Francesco protects her in subtle ways, but would totally destroy anyone who hurt her.
Now God was really pushing his luck with Lorenzo. Like this dude is capable, but also a sunshine himbo, and Francesco is very reluctant to protect him but the final push comes from Guliano being a terrible sunshine protector so Francesco takes over out of spite.
Then finally is Francesco's wife, who let's face it, had Francesco whipped from the moment they met. Will use Giuliano as a human shield to protect her.

Francesco would not defy his uncle, (indefinitely) for Lorenzo. But he would for Guglielmo. Francesco will always and has always protected his brother. Under no circumstances will he turn against him. Because he is the big brother. Maybe Francesco was not able to save himself from Jacopo's grasp, but he could save his brother.
The first time we see Francesco refuse Jacopo, and turn away from him and his wishes is when Guglielmo is at stake. It is after Guglielmo has been, basically disowned by Jacopo and Francesco can't do that to his brother. So he turns against his uncle, his father essentially, the man who he always needed to please, the man that abused him and twisted his thoughts, used him, and scared him. Francesco turned against the man who had a chokehold on him for his little brother.
Because Jacopo crossed a line.
Even when Francesco goes back to Jacopo, even when that man is at his lowest. He's turned his back on the Medici, on his wife, and slunk back to the man who ruined his life. He lets Jacopo get inside his head and twist his thought and his views, but not about Guglielmo. In every single attempt that the Pazzi and their companions made against the Medici, Francesco had found ways to ensure Guglielmo would be safe, and Gugilemlo's family.
At the first attempt, at the Medici Palazzo, Francesco is talking with his companions and he says that while they strike, he will get Gugielmo AND Bianca out of the way. Francesco's main concern even at that moment is not killing Lorenzo or Giuliano. Not appeasing his uncle but keeping his brother from danger.
He then wanted to get Guglielmo and Bianca out of the city when the attack at the Duomo happened, he wanted his brother safe, he wanted him away from harm. This way, even if Francesco failed his brother could not be a part of it, he wouldn't even be in the city so why would he have anything to do with the attack?
Even at his darkest Francesco always thought of his brother. Cause yeah maybe he wasn't a good man. But he was a good brother. He was the big brother, he had a responsibility.
Francesco Pazzi wasn't a good man, but he loved his brother.

Hii, i would be very happy to hear your opinion about this
in medici ep5 of s2 it was implied that giuliano was mad that lorenzo didn't ask him to be his son's godfather, it's natural that giuliano is hurt since he's the baby's uncle while Francesco is a random outsider but then idk if he would be a good godfather since we saw he was quite carefree. He was literally late for piero's christening and we also didn't see him bother to come to see the baby while we saw both bianca and Francesco on screen with the baby after the christening. So i doubt if he was choosen to be the godfather would he be a responsible one? Given how carefree he was i doubt if situation was reversed, he would have raised piero as responsibly and affectionately as lorenzo has raised guilio. But then he actually in a way sacrificed his life for lorenzo so maybe he would be worthy if given a chance but i am not sure. What do you think?
Tumblr media
Sorry this took me so long to answer lol, I had a lot of thoughts about this and had to make sure not to go off on a tangent lol
Okay, so yes, in ep 5 of season 2, its implied that Giuliano is hurt, and feeling left out, although I don't think it is specifically about Francesco being Piero's godfather and not him. I think that is probably a part of it, but I think it is more, that Lorenzo brought Francesco into the Medici family and wanted to work closely with him and the Pazzi bank to ensure everyone got along, and I imagine that kinda of made Giuliano feel left out, Lorenzo can also be an idjit and probably treated Francesco more like a brother than a working partner, and didn't work very hard to keep Giuliano in the fold, but I don't think that small fall out between Giuliano and Lorenzo was completely Lorenzo's fault. Giuliano probably felt left out and went off to sulk and pulled away instead of trying to fix things.
Nah, I don't think Giuliano would have been a responsible Godfather, he was the younger son, and liked to enjoy himself and indulge, but he was never ready to be in charge of a child. Francesco on the other hand, wanted kids, and I think if things had gone differently Francesco would have been very involved in Piero's life. He would have taken the role of godfather seriously, whereas Giuliano might have just seen it as a title since he is Piero's uncle.
I also think Lorenzo wanted the making of Francesco, Piero's Godfather to be something to make Francesco feel more like family, and I don't think he did it to snub Giuliano. At this point in the series, Guliano had pulled away and wasn't really present.
I think if something had happened to Lorenzo and Clarice and Giuliano was left with Piero, Giuliano would rise to the occasion. Neither of the Medici sons is one to shrink from duties or responsibility. So Giuliano would have had some growing up to do and learning, but he would have raised Piero as his own like Lorenzo did for Giulo.
I also think, maybe on some level Lorenzo knew that Giuliano was younger, he wanted his freedom, he is the younger brother. Francesco is the older brother, he practically already was a father to Gugielmo, so yeah Francesco might have been a more obvious choice in that area.
But I don't think Lorenzo's choice to make Francesco godfather was supposed to snub Giuliano. It was to bring the families closer together, especially since Jacopo was a wild card, and I think Lorenzo genuinely wanted Francesco to be a part of their family. Francesco never had a core family growing up and I think Lorenzo knew that. And like I said, at this point Giuliano had pulled away so maybe there was some distance between the brothers and they were both going about that the wrong way. The Medici brothers are pretty but at times they can be pretty dumb lol
Hope that answered your question! Thanks for the ask! 🙂 🩶

Who would survive in the Apocalypse? Medici Edition
Francesco Pazzi
Tumblr media
I would say the outbreak happened when Francesco was around...14? His parents are killed in the outbreak, and Francesco takes his little brother Gugielmo and runs. Francesco runs through the chaos of their hometown, trying to get away. Francesco takes Gugielmo and goes to his family's safe house, stealing a car to get there. His family on his Uncle's side, were preppers, especially Jacopo's wife, his aunt.
Francesco and Guglielmo get to the safe house and stay held up in there for three days before Jacopo finally arrives and finds them.
So Francesco essentially grows up for a large part of his life in the Apocalypse. He of course still remembers his life before the end of the world, but he learns and adapts to the world rather quickly. Jacopo is still a harsh man, and Francesco is abused as child, molded into a weapon for Jacopo to use.
Whatever main settlements appear throughout the years, Florence being one of them, his home and home to the Medici, Francesco likes to travel between them. He actually likes to be out in the dead world, much more than he likes being cooped up within the city that he calls home.
Francesco can kill walkers, he's quite good at it, Jacopo has made sure he excels in handling any type of weapon, but in truth, Francesco simply often avoids the dead. He can weave in and out of them easily, he is quick on his feet and knows where to hide and where to go to get away from a herd.

The Ottos vs The Pazzi {Part 1}
Let's compare and contrast these complicated and dysfunctional families, shall we?
There will be a cut below this, but just a fair warning, this post will discuss spoilers of both shows, and it will also discuss abuse and death. Now I know these two families are very different, given one is fictional and one is not, and they are from different eras and yes, I know, but also I think they are more similar than we think and these thoughts have been rolling around in my head for a while. I will be using the Pazzi family as they appear in the Netflix show not historically. Disclaimer, these are my thoughts you don’t have to share them
Enjoy
So, to start this off, let's start by comparing the 'householders' of these two families, as terrible as they may be.
Jeremiah vs Jacopo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think we can all agree, that these two are narcissistic assholes who screwed over their kids. Like, who let either of these people be a parent? No one should ever be left in their care, especially not children. These two are abusers and just, no.
Both these men are horrific, and I honestly don’t know who I hate more.
I think Jacopo certainly scared me more than Jeremiah. Both were terrible people, and both abused their kids. But Jacopo was smart, he was politically adapt and he knew what he was doing. So he was much more terrifying to me.
Jeremiah didn’t scare me, he just pissed me off. This is not to say that I don’t think Jeremiah wasn’t scary to people around him. He terrified his son(s), and to an extent the people on the ranch because they never intervened on Troy’s behalf even though they all knew what Jeremiah was. So Jeremiah did have power, power out of fear, but that was all he had. Jacopo also inspired fear of course, but he was also a politician he knew how to talk people into siding with him, getting into their heads, and so on, like he does with Francesco.
I think these two men also use their abuse differently.
Both Jeremiah, and Jacopo physically, emotionally and mentally abuse Troy and Francesco. But I think at one point, Jacopo stops physically abusing Francesco when he gets older. I also think that Jacopo uses his abuse to beat Francesco into submission. His abuse wouldn’t be mindless, it would be when Francesco slips up, does something Jacopo doesn’t like, and so Francesco then learns how to be the 'perfect son’, the perfect heir and tool for Jacopo to use.
Jeremiah, I don’t think was this meticulous in his abuse, and his physical abuse of Troy did not stop when Troy grew up, it continued. Which I think feeds into Troy’s hatred for his father, whereas, Francesco does not ever outrightly hate Jacopo, and even goes back to him in the end.
Jacopo thought his abuse through, it was planned and meticulous. Jeremiah just abused as his emotions and drinking dictated. Francesco was given a guideline to follow and a standard to measure up to, to stop the physical abuse, but Troy was not. Troy could act one way and get hit, learn from that, and act another way and still get hit, which may have contributed to Troy’s erratic behavior. A behavior that you don’t see in Francesco as much.
Jacopo beat Francesco into submission. Jeremiah beat Troy because he was a drunk and in all honesty needed to let his anger out and for whatever twisted reason, chose to take that out on Troy. Jacopo's abuse probably does eventually stop, because Jacopo needs Francesco to obey him, fear him to a point, but not resent him. Jeremiah's abuse does not stop and I think at some point this causes Troy to turn against Jeremiah, he's done.
Both these men work to build something that they hope to last throughout the ages, and both are responsible for the fall of what they have built. Jacopo has a direct hand in ending his own line and house, and Jeremiah's own sons end his legacy and what he built (as they should).
Both these men also shut their children off from the world, you see it when Jeremiah pulls Troy out of the school and keeps him on the ranch, Jacopo totally shuts Francesco away from anyone and everything he didn't agree with (will talk more about this under the Troy and Francesco section).
