#Repost @colvinology St Bernardus Abt 12, an absolutely world class 10% Belgian Quadrupel from Brouwerij St. Bernardus (@stbernardus), and the Master Grade 0RX-013 Gundam Mk-V . Hey. This is one of my favorite beers of all time. I've been drinking it pretty much since I got into beer, and it's been a while since I reviewed it, so let's do an update. The nose is dark and malty, with aromas of dark rye bread, molasses, caramel, roasted malts, dried fruit, and Belgian yeast. The sip has a malty smoothness that I've seen a lot of beers emulate, but very few successfully replicate. The sip starts off with a malty, almost sweet brown sugar and molasses flavor, along with just a bit of burnt sugar bitterness. Flavors of raisins and dates pour in afterwards and a nice, hefty hit of rum-soaked rye bread shows up right towards the end. Those bitter flavors stay mild, but linger between sips, where they meet the last of those leftover bread and fruit flavors and melt into a boozy, warming finish. One of the first styles of beer I knew I really loved was Belgian Trappist ales. Bernardus then, has the benefit of not just being one of the best quadrupels I've ever had, but also being freely available literally anywhere with a decent beer selection. I honestly can't think of a bottle shop I've been to in the last 10 years that didn't have some Bernardus on the shelf. What I'm saying is, if you haven't had this one, I'm reasonably certain just about everyone in several countries can go out and basically trip over some. There's not much else to say here; some beers don't age well, but no matter how much my palate grows or changes, A chilly bottle of this always hits the spot. Truly and completely a world class beer. . Oh, and while I have you...kinda bullshit that the Gundam Mk-V was a P-Bandai release, right? It honestly a kickass kit and nobody can't find one anymore. #Repost @colvinology Barrel Aged Hazelnut Imperial Stout from Untitled Art (@untitledartbev) and Mikerphone (@mikerphonebrewing), the Master Grade Gundam 3.0, and the Master Grade Gundam Mk V . WOW. The nose here is absolutely BURSTING with the aroma roasted hazelnut. There's also a fair amount of chocolate and bourbon here, as well as a bit of coffee, but man, this goes heavy on the hazelnut. The sip elicits another WOW from me. I actually hadn't checked the ABV on this until I took a sip, and I have to say, this definitely drinks like a 13% stout. The flavor is more balanced than the nose, with strong hits of dark chocolate, black coffee, and strong bourbon joining that total facepunch of hazelnut. The flavor of Nutella hits you first, before it's almost completely drowned out by a smooth shot of bourbon. As that fades, dark chocolate and black coffee bitterness arrive, as well as the tail end of the hazelnut flavor. As it warms, the bourbon becomes less harsh in the middle, and the whole thing settles into a sort of boozy hazelnut brownie flavor. This beer is what Stout Season is all about: when the weather gets cold, you need something that warms you up, like 3 shots of bourbon, a mug of hot cocoa, and a half jar of Nutella...and if you can get that all at once? #Repost • @colvinology Cloudy Donkey, a double dry hopped hazy pale ale from Tampa Bay Brewing Co (@tbbco) and the Master Grade P Bandai ORX-013 Gundam Mk V . Tropical Fruits on the nose, adding an almost piña colada- like aroma to the traditional orange/ tangerine notes. I'm mostly getting melon, pineapple, and coconut here, though there's also a light grassiness towards the back. The sip is light and smooth, with bright fruit flavors drifting lazily along the palette, bringing back that bouquet of tropical fruit from the nose. It has tons of flavor, next to no bitterness, and the mellow presentation combined with a relatively clean finish make this an incredibly easy drinking brew. This is possibly one of the most chuggable beers I've had in a while, and perfect for a lazy Wednesday evening. If I was the kind of person who goes on boats or rivers, I would probably love to slam a couple of these in the summer sun...but mainly I hate nature, so I'll just enjoy this one on the patio 😂.  . Honestly the Mk V is still an incredibly impressive kit. It's massive and bulky while still being articulable, which puts it above the other Sentinel Master Grades, which are all some level of "total brick." Literally the only downside is that this was P Bandai for some absurd reason, so it's gonna be hard for people to actually get a hold of. It's BS, honestly.
