Was ANYONE gonna tell me that Guy Montgomery's Guy Mont-Spelling Bee had both Ayo Edebiri and Madeleine Sami, my two greatest loves, as contestants in its first (digital) season????????
Just your typical interaction from a normal spelling bee.
Also, as an aside, Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee has the energy of an SNL game show parody. Chaotic host, crazy contestants, insane rounds. The only difference is that it doesn’t wear out its welcome after five minutes.
guy montgomerys guy mont spelling bee last night was so good ... my first live spelling bee and it was anne edmonds, anirban dasgupta, feRN BRADY and JOHN FUCKING KEARNSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (FT. PAUL WILLIAMS) oughhhhhghghhhh
john won by being a SNEAKY LITTLE BITCH (idiot) and anirban lost but won our hearts.......... johns prize was a horse book which he gave to fern bc she wanted it (they were chatting all night) and he kept the trucker hat prize to himself (pictured wearing)
paul williams helped with the audience interaction and had some crazy fucking zingers... how have i seen him 3 times this festival??? and seeing him again tonight......
going through GM'S GMSB
I'm adoring the: "What's it a bit like?" option to help identify musical instruments.
"It's a bit like a long winded story about a gun." -> glockenspiel
:D
Because I’m someone who’s super lazy, I only got to finish the last few episodes of Guy Mont Spelling Bee this past week, even though it’s been out for months. Anyway, S1E7 had a great lineup, featuring TMNZ S3’s Kura Forrester, recently-announced TMNZ S4 contestant Karen O’Leary, and two comics I hadn’t heard of until this show, Jack Ansett and Jamaine Ross.
Before I get to the point of this post, if you haven’t watched Guy Mont Spelling Bee yet, it’s sincerely one of the best panel shows out there. They really threw the entire rule book out the window, and it’s basically a comedian torture chamber disguised as a spelling and vocabulary competition.
In regards to this episode, I really wish these four were a TM lineup of their own, cause their chemistry here was off the rails hilarious. Karen O’Leary’s confident yet deadpan personality gives me strong confidence in the next TM NZ season, which couldn’t come any sooner. And I have to add the other two to my dream contestants list: Jamaine Ross’ enthusiastic personality sorta reminds me of David Correos (they were next to each other on the previous episode, making this comparison clear) and his presence gives off the vibe of a fanboy that somehow made his way into the contestant’s spot.
I’m attaching this clip of Jack Ansett though, since he made me laugh so hard I found it even more stunning that this was his very first panel show appearance. I won’t be surprised if he gets booked on more shows, since his extremely awkward yet weirdly earnest personality really shone through during this episode. It’s been a while since I’ve seen someone who I didn’t know on a panel show, and thought, “who the fuck is this guy, he’s hilarious.” Maybe this is a sign I need to dive deeper into the NZ panel show circuit?
