felt like rewatching the first korean movie I ever saw - my little bride (2004, dir. kim hojoon)

man, back in those days kdramas and movies were hard to get your hands on. there were no official sources, fansubs were always a crapshoot, and if I wanted to own something i’d have to wait for a china trip to get a physical copy. I remember coming across this dvd in a random video store in my dinky little hometown and being elated.

the plot is pretty simple - arranged marriage, hijinks ensue. one thing that I appreciated on rewatching though is how the gender roles are reversed in the development of their relationship - bo eun is the one who does whatever she wants and sangmin quietly looks out for her and plays the self sacrificing spouse role.

man, i’m obsessed with moon geun young. I was already a fan from autumn in my heart (THE og classic kdrama❤️), and she freaking owned this movie. she’s just so good. she has so much range, and she nails it every time. her knack for physical comedy is insane, she portrays the cheeky teenage girl character so well. all her cute little mannerisms in this are super naturalistic and charming. I miss her doing comedy, I really do.

kim rae won also gets to work his comedy chops here, and acquits himself admirably. I have no idea what he’s up to now, but I remember when he was one of the Hot New Things. this made me feel super old - the realization that my contemporaries are part of the previous generation of pop culture now🥲

also wow shin se kyung is stunning in this. they put a little too much makeup on her for my taste, but man she’s just so pretty. no surprise she went on to become a leading lady.

watching this sent me on a massive nostalgia trip. the 2000s was when the hallyu wave was really starting to peak, and so many mainstays of k-ent were formed during this era. the music, fashion, actors, story tropes, all of it reminded me of how exciting it was to be a k-ent fan at the time. the internet made everything accessible to the west, and I remember going on the d-addicts forums (now there’s a name you haven’t heard in a while!) every day to gush about the popular new shows. veteran actors like hyun bin, song hye kyo, song seung heon etc were just getting their breakout roles. looking back, it’s insane how far we’ve come and how much k-ent has proliferated. I appreciate the ability to just pick up my tv remote and netflix any new kdrama, but i’ll always have fond memories of those early years.

A legendary Japanese music producer Saito Eisuke says that rookie Jin was one of the reasons why he decided to give BTS a chance

Saito Eisuke is a legendary Japanese producer who was the director of a huge music company, Amuse.

Among the Japanese artists, he was closely working with such stars as Southern All Stars, Mari Hamada, Mariko Takahashi, Yasuko Agawaand, etc. He was also heavily involved in the expansion of Korean music in Japan. After working in several large music companies, producing for an impressive number of artists, Saito Eisuke became the Deputy General Manager of Fu Shide Investment Co., Ltd. in 2020.

Back in 2014, Saito Eisuke was the person who agreed to help BTS with their expansion in Japan. In the credits to BTS's first Japanese album, 'Wake Up,' Saito Eisuke is designated as the General Producer. The interviewers can't help but keep asking the legendary producer, who played a significant role in the expansion of K-pop in Japan, about his experience of working with BTS. Besides that, his opinion on the success of spreading the Hallyu wave.

Recently, an interview about his experience working with BTS was published in the Japanese best-selling book 'Legendary Producers Leading the World". In the interview, he talked about the story of meeting BTS for the first time. One day in 2014, Bang Si-hyuk reached out to him and asked to see BTS when Saito Eisuke happened to be in Seoul. Saito Eisuke mentioned Jin when talking about his first impression of BTS. It got lots of attention on social media, with many people liking and retweeting his words about rookie Jin.

'Bang PD asked me to come see BTS. There were exactly 7 people. What was my first impression? I saw Jin and thought he had a popular face suitable for dramas, we call it 'an effective visual.' If you have that in your group, you can 'sell' it to Japan and it turned out to be true.'

Jin was indeed the center of attention ever since BTS debuted. He had lots of fansites at the very first BTS performance and received lots of compliments from the general public. Even back in 2014, the users on Korean forums were discussing the 'new most handsome face.' The same year as BTS made their Japanese debut, Jin went viral in Korea as the 'Car Door Guy.' Since then, Jin has constantly been going viral in multiple countries, including the USA, which helped him build the brand of 'Worldwide Handsome.'

In Japan, Jin is one of the most popular idols. Many people have heard a popular nickname of Jin, 'King of Japanese songs.' His live vocals always receive a major positive reaction in Japan, and locals even named him the 'King of Live Vocals' back in 2021.

1. BAE YONG JOON - HAHAHAHA okay this was when I was 11 I think? This was when the Hallyu wave hadn’t like really spread yet, and fan clubs were still on those old-ass forums, I was the youngest (idk how I got roped in by my mom’s friends but nvm) - Anyway!!! This man won the hearts of a lot of women then with Winter Sonata okay!!

2. CHO KYUHYUN - Yeah I went on to Super Junior, and my eyes zoomed into Kyuhyun in like... when I was 14? Yes, he’s still my bias AHAHAHAHA are we using this term still?

3. ZHOU MI - And then along with Kyuhyun, there was Zhou Mi from Super Junior M, the Chinese unit. OKAY THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SIGN FOR MY CURRENT OBSESSIONS. Honestly, no one I knew liked Zhou Mi, but I LURVE him, his voice is like GODIVA CHOCOLATE and also he’s tall af, and he’s real nice - Because at concerts there would only be like... at most 3-5 fanboards for him? The 2 Super Shows (SS3/SS4) I went to HE SAW MY BOARDS AND SENT HEARTS TO ME OKAY!!! TWICE!! OVER TWO YEARS!! He’s still my fave, and he’s still rocking it out there despite having been on like... forever-hiatus (SM seriously pls give him smth or give me my SJM comeback)

Overall Company

Most of Gold Star’s artists are busy this month, meaning a good boost to the start of second quarter profits. This is good since Gold Star is at the top right now and intends to keep it that way. Idols under the company will have some early fittings with stylists for the planned company concert in a few months, but the purpose is mostly to make sure the initial design plans will be flattering to everyone

One festival is all she has on the public schedule front this month, but behind the scenes, plans are being finalized for the release of her next album, which means a lot of meetings and studio time as songs get approved and rejected and concepts fall into place to tie everything together.

Comeback preparations continue for her first album in quite a while. Fans are growing restless, but she’s only been given the go ahead to tease a possible comeback so far, not confirm it, so Gold Star hopes her two performances this month will tie them over until her approaching solo concert and her long awaited comeback.

This month, he’ll be continuing the Asia leg of his tour in Thailand and Bangkok. Management is already talking about a late summer comeback in the midst of his touring, though nothing is completely set in stone yet.

Silhouette is, as always, a popular choice for university festival season due to their popularity with college-aged students, so they’ve been scheduled for several of those as well.

This month, Aria will be recording their special July comeback single. There isn’t a lot of pressure for the comeback to deliver monetarily since it’s more of a release to keep Aria present in the music scene and Gold Star is doing very well financially right now. Their only public schedule is a university festival performance, but members are encouraged to keep in touch with fans and pursue individual activities to keep Aria’s brand power up.

Origin

Origin begins the month in the US for the Billboard Music Awards before returning to Seoul to complete their promotional activities for this comeback, including fan signs and a lot of long music show pre-recordings and live shows. They’ll be pre-recording performances for the last week and a half or so of their music show promotions as well before they leave to return to the US on the morning of the 14th to kick off their stadium tour. They’re scheduled for a lot of miscellaneous promo recording between their concert dates, too, and their next album is already in the works as well as preparations for their upcoming fan meetings in Seoul and Busan next month.

Most of the month is spent on their North American tour, but the members will return to Seoul for a short time from May 17 to May 23 to perform at the 2019 Dream Concert. The pressure for their comeback this month to perform well is incredibly clear because, as it stands, a comeback takes more more from the company than it gives back to them and Gold Star can only milk their international fanbases with occasional concerts so much. Everyone, including managers and coordis, know that the stakes are high and that this single needs to show some sign of improvement within the domestic market.

Femme Fatale

Femme Fatale are one of the most in-demand groups for this year’s spring university festivals and despite Gold Star’s approach of keeping an exclusive image for the group thus far, the company has taken advantage of the high demand and booked the group for a number of festivals to remind the general public that might not already be fans of their existence before their comeback next month. Behind the scenes, this is the last month for recording for the album and learning choreography.

J’en suis déjà a cinq articles en même pas trois semaine.. je dois vraiment m’ennuyer en faite ahah ! 

Au moment où j’écris (donc le 20 mars 2019 a 16h00) j’hésite a faire un articles sur un groupe, un(e) artiste solo ou faire un articles sur tout les petits mots et phrase qu’un fan de K-POP utilise a longueur de journée avec plein de référence aux groupes. Bah je croit que je vais faire ça finalement. 

C’est partie pour “LE VOCABULAIRE DANS LA K-POP” 

Aegyo : Fait d'agir de façon mignonne.

Aigo : Interjection utilisée pour exprimer un sentiment d'impuissance.

All-Kill : Mot signifiant qu'un artiste est un numéro 1 de façon simultanée sur les plus grands sites de téléchargements légaux comme Melon, Dosirak, Soribada...

Annyeong : Bonjour ou salut en coréen.

Annyeonghaseyo : Bonjour en coréen.

Annyeonghigasseo : Au revoir en coréen (dit par la personne qui reste).

Annyeonghigesseo : Au revoir en coréen (dit par la personne qui part).

Appa : Terme coréen pour "papa".

Araso ? : Langage plutôt familier : "Compris?"

Bias : Membre préféré dans un groupe. (ceci est un choix personnelle !)

BoysBand : Groupe formé par une agence, constitué uniquement de garçons.

CF : Publicité tournée par des idols.

Chingu : Terme coréen désignant un ami.

Comeback stage : Première prestation dans une émission musicale pour la promotion d'un nouveau titre, peu importe le temps écoulé depuis la promotion du titre précédent.

Diss Track : Chanson visant à s'attaquer à quelqu'un.

Dongsaeng : Terme coréen par lequel un aîné désigne un cadet.

Drama : Terme désignant une série télévisée de plusieurs épisodes qui se suivent, dans les pays asiatiques.

Eomma : Terme coréen pour dire maman.

FanCafe : Sorte de Forum en Corée.

FanChants : Paroles “fabriquées” et scandées par les fans d’un groupe pendant une chanson. 

FanClub :  Association regroupant les fans d'un groupe (REMARQUE : le plus grand fanclub officiel du monde est celui des EXO avec près de 2 millions d'inscrits ; il faut dire que ce dernier est gratuit, contrairement à d'autres fanclubs, dont celui des DBSK). Beaucoup de fans ne sont pas inscrites officiellement aux fanclubs de leurs idols mais se donnent le même nom que le fanclub pour se désigner comme étant fan de tel ou tel groupe.

Fighting : Cri d'encouragement, signifiant "Courage".

GirlsBand : Groupe formé par une agence, constitué uniquement de filles.

Gomapseumnida : Façon formelle de dire "merci" (peu utilisé).

Gomawo : Version courte de "Gomapseumnida" pour dire "merci" (familier). Cette forme est réservée aux amis proches et aux membres de la famille que l'on tutoie.

Gomawoyo : Autre façon de dire "merci". Le niveau de politesse est entre celui de Gomapseumnida et celui de Gomawo.

Goodbye stage : Dernière prestation dans une émission musicale pour la promotion d'un titre.

Hallyu ou Korean Wave : Vague Coréenne. C'est l'aspiration croissante à en savoir plus sur la culture coréenne (donc pas seulement sur les idols!!).

Hoobae : Personne ayant moins d'expérience que soi dans un domaine.

Hwaiting ! : Cri d'encouragement.

Hyung : Terme coréen par lequel un garçon désigne un aîné du même sexe. Il peut s'employer seul ou suivre le prénom du concerné.

Idol(e) : Ce terme vient du Japon, où idol est une sorte d'idole des jeunes avec des spécificités notables, le terme désignant en fait une activité professionnelle artistique où les artistes sont très médiatisés, à la fois chanteurs, acteurs, animateurs, modèles, sous contrat pour une durée limitée pendant quelques mois ou années.

Kamsahamnida : Façon la plus courante pour dire "merci" (forme polie). Voir aussi Gomapseumnida, Gomawo et Gomawoyo.

Kekeke (ㅋㅋㅋ) : avec un nombre de lettres/syllabes variable, trois le plus souvent. Il s'agit tout simplement de la retranscription du rire en coréen (même si en théorie on devrait l'ecrire k k k).

Leader : Celui (ou celle) qui 'dirige' un groupe, il fait le lien entre le groupe et l'agence le plus souvent.

Macro : Photo/Gif/Image/etc... sur /lequel laquelle sont rajoutées des lignes imaginant ce que les personnages présents peuvent dire/penser au moment de la prise, notamment selon leur expression faciale ou leur façon d'être à ce moment-là.

Maknae : Terme coréen désignant le plus jeune membre d'un groupe

Manhwa : Nom donné à la bande dessinée en Corée. On l'utilise à l'étranger pour désigner une bande dessinée coréenne. (auteur d'un manhwa : manhwaga).

MC : Abréviation de Master of Ceremonies, l'équivalent de notre "animateur".

Me2day : Equivalent de Twitter en Corée.

Mianhae : Désolé en coréen (s'utilise avec des amis du même âge ou plus jeune). Autre variante, pour dire "je suis désolé" : "Choi Song Hamnida". Il vaut mieux utiliser cette dernière forme pour s'adresser poliment (à un professeur par exemple).

MR Removed : Initiales pour Music Record Removed : tout en faisant disparaître la musique mais en laissant les voix des artistes, ces vidéos permettent de juger des prestations live des artistes, c'est-à-dire ceux qui sont vraiment en live ou en playback.

MV : Abréviation de Music Vidéo. C'est en fait un terme pour désigner un clip.

Music Bank ou Music Core : Concert où plusieurs artistes/groupes coréens de différents labels sont réunis. (Par Exemple Les Dreams Concerts !)

Namja : Terme coréen signifiant "Homme".

NG : Abréviation de "No Good". Désigne, dans les dramas, les scènes "mal" tournées. (On les trouve parfois en bonus).

Noona : Terme coréen par lequel un garçon désigne une fille plus âgée que lui. Il peut s'employer seul ou suivre le prénom de la concernée.

Ommo : Interjection pouvant être associée au smiley suivant : O_o . Il marque l'étonnement.

Oppa : Terme coréen par lequel une fille désigne un garçon plus âgé qu'elle. Il peut s'employer seul ou suivre le prénom du concerné.

OS : Abrévation de One Shoot : Récit Cours.

OST : Abréviation de 'Original SoudTrack', (en Français : Bande Originale ou BO). Il s'agit de l'ensemble des musiques composant un film ou une série, qu'il s'agisse des thèmes importants ou des musiques d'ambiance plus discrètes. Ces musiques font souvent l'objet d'un regroupement sur CD destiné à la vente, objet prisé des collectionneurs. Ce terme n'est pas réservé à l'animation.

OTP : "One True Pairing", soit, "le vrai pairing". Ce sont souvent les fans de Yaoi qui utilisent cette abréviation pour désigner leur pairing préféré. On peut aussi trouver OT3, qui signifie "One True Threesome" ("le vrai trio"). Certain(e)s fans du groupe DBSK utilisent aussi OT5 pour montrer qu'elles "croient" aux DB5K (aux 5 membres du groupe).

Perfect All-Kill : Signifie qu'un artiste cumule simultanément la place de numéro 1 des téléchargements légaux et des écoutes en temps réel sur les grands sites musicaux comme Melon, Dosirak, Soribada...

Rookie : Débutant(e)s.

Sasaeng : Terme désignant des fans au comportement obsessionnel et qui suivent leurs célébrités préférées jour et nuit. En anglais, cela s'apparente au terme "stalker".

Seiyū : Mot japonais désignant un doublage pour un film, dessin animé, anime...

Selca : Dérivé du terme anglais 'self-camera'. Photo que l'on prend de soi-même. Les stars adorent en poster sur leur compte Twitter.

Ship : Dit aussi paring. Il s’agit des couple de membre du même groupe ou non. On leurs donne le noms des deux artistes mélanger. Exemple : Yoongi [BTS] + Jimin [BTS] = YoonMin

SM Town : Nom des concerts organisés par la SM Entertainement dans lesquels tous leurs artistes sont présents.

Sous-unité : Désigne un groupe formé à partir de quelques membres d'un même groupe. Qu'il s'agisse des singles ou des albums, ces projets individuels se font à part des activités du groupe de base.

Starcall : Service visio-téléphonique permettant de poser des questions par visio via un téléphone portable coréen et d'éventuellement recevoir une réponse également sous forme de visio (vidéo).

Sukira (슈키라) : Abréviation de Super Junior Kiss the Radio (슈퍼주니어 키스 더 라디오), émission radio animée par EunHyuk et LeeTeuk (membres du groupe Super Junior) de 22h à minuit. Elle existe depuis le 21 Août 2006. Depuis décembre 2011, la radio n'est plus animée par LeeTeuk et EunHyuk, mais par SungMin et RyeoWook (du même groupe).

Sunbae : Terme coréen par lequel on désigne une personne qui a plus d'expérience que soi-même, dans le domaine des études ou professionnel.

SuperShow : Nom donné aux concerts des Super Junior.

Trainee : Terme désignant les "stagiaires" d'une agence, souhaitant devenir acteur, chanteur... Ceci doivent beaucoup s'entraîner avant de devenir (ou non) de vrais idols.

Triple Crown : Titre obtenu lorsqu'un artiste est 3 fois numéro 1 dans le classement d'une émission musicale.

Ulzzang : Terme coréen utilisé pour désigner une personne d'origine Coréenne reconnue sur Internet pour sa beauté et ses photos de type semi-professionnelles. Les ulzzang peuvent être homme ou femme, ils doivent être minces et avoir la peau très blanche. Ils s'inscrivent à des concours pour devenir officiellement Ulzzang et être reconnu comme tel. Certains s'orientent vers d'autres voies comme la musique ou le cinéma mais il deviennent généralement ou mannequin ou acteur de drama (séries asiatiques). Les autres asiatiques peuvent être eux aussi Ulzzang mais ne sont pas considérés officiellement comme tels et sont alors appelés des Cyberstars.

United Cube : Nom donné aux concerts organisés par Cube Entertainment dans lesquels tous leurs artistes sont présents. 

Unnie (ou eonni) : Terme coréen par lequel une fille désigne une aînée. Il peut s'employer seul ou suivre le prénom de la concernée.

Yaoi : Terme japonais désignant une romance entre hommes.

Yeoja : Terme coréen signifiant "Femme".

Yuri : Terme japonais désignant une romance entre femmes.

Melonjaknya Musik K-Pop di India

Salah satu genre yang berkembang selama pandemi adalah K-pop (musik rakyat Korea). K-pop menawarkan lebih dari sekadar lagu pop: multidimensi, media yang menggabungkan hiburan audiovisual terbaik yang ditawarkan oleh artis yang sangat cantik dan mempesona.

Musik di India dengan genre ini dimulai pada tahun 2000-an di negara bagian Manipur di timur laut, di mana kelompok yang memisahkan diri dari Front Rakyat Revolusioner melarang konsumsi segala bentuk hiburan India. Mereka percaya bahwa media berbahasa Hindi mendukung "nilai-nilai feodal" dari daratan berbahasa Hindi. what do you mean they don't make groups like shinee anymore in kpop?

Oh. That wasn’t shade to anyone or anything, just a general observation about Kpop in general. SHINee (like some most of the groups I listed in my last answer) came from a different tradition of Kpop. They came from a time where Kpop artists had less freedoms from their management (remember ‘slave contracts’?). They were groups that were highly regulated and very much produced with the aim of introducing Kpop to foreign listeners. This was the beginning of Hallyu and people still don’t know what Kpop is, so they had to make sure that their sound is not only distinct and catchy, but marketable and appealing to foreign listeners as well. And they all did it with very very little help from social media. Back then, if we wanted to follow a group we must join a fan forum, and word of mouth does not travel as fast as it does now. No Twitter, no FB, Youtube was just starting… we had to wait for weeks, even months for anything subbed lol. I don’t think it’s a reach to even say that old Kpop groups paved the way for Kpop being what it is now. They’re made differently with a different purpose back then… basically is what I’m saying. :)
