A man in #Ohio was shot by #police after they thought he was a burglar, but his family said he was only cleaning out his late grandmother's house. In Wyoming, a city outside #Cincinnati , police responded around 1 a.m. to a #911 call reporting a few people trying to break into an apartment, according to #NBC News. Police Chief Brooke Brady said Joe Frasure Jr., and his father Joe Frasure Sr., were found behind the building. Frasure Jr. refused police orders to step out of a minivan. “The minivan reversed at a high rate of speed, before hitting a tree, at which point the vehicle accelerated rapidly at our officers,” she told the news outlet. “The officers fired four shots at the minivan as the minivan was accelerating towards them,” she added. #HamiltonCounty Sheriff's Office reports that Frasure Jr. was hit with gunfire and the vehicle crashed into the building. Frasure Jr. was pulled from the wreckage and transported to University Hospital, where he later died on Jan 31. #WLWT reports that the man and his dad were helping his sister clean out their grandmother's apartment, where she lived before her death. Frasure Jr.'s sister Shonda Coleman refuted the police chief’s account of what took place. “I didn’t hear no commands. All I heard is pop, pop, pop, pop. Like, it was, like, 10 rounds.... I want to see the bodycam. I want all the cops that was here, ever y one of them that was here, I want their information." Joe Frasure Jr.'s death at the hands of police while he was cleaning out his deceased grandmother's home was an avoidable tragedy. The police officers who killed him, and brought even more grief to a family suffering loss, need to be brought to justice. #JoeFrasureJr https://www.instagram.com/p/CorRyzNOetQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

— 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐡𝐢𝐨, 𝐜.𝟏𝟖𝟔𝟔⁣ ⁣ This map of Ohio was created by The Major & Knapp Eng. Mfg. & Lith. Co. on behalf of the U.S. Department of Interior’s General Land Office. ⁣ ⁣ Dated October 2nd 1866, this map shows boundaries for the Ohio Company Purchase, designated Virginia Military Land, Symmes’s Purchase, Connecticut Reserve and Military Land. Additional text notes describe the natural resources found throughout different areas of the state. ⁣ ⁣ The Symmes Purchase (or Miami Purchase) refers to the tract of land that sits between the Great Miami and Little Miami Rivers. Named after John Cleves Symmes, a Congressman and lead investor for a group of land speculators, the purchase was originally meant to be 1,000,000 acres. It is said that due to a botched survey and mishandling of the sale that Congress reduced the proposed Symmes purchase to 311,682 acres. On September 30th, 1794, Symmes would ultimately receive a signed U.S. Patent Deed, signed by George Washington, for a total of 248,250 acres. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Visit the @CincyMapCollection website linked in bio for more historical maps of Ohio. ⁣ ⁣ #ohio #history #Symmes #township #cincinnati #hamiltoncounty #cincinnatihistory #ohiohistory #1866 #columbushistory #clevelandhistory #toledohistory #miamivalley https://www.instagram.com/p/B7y-RLEhhs6/?igshid=g378d68rgt43

Video
Regrann from @dp_mind.and.soul - A magistrate #judge in #Ohio has resigned after video of him chasing down and grabbing a #Blackwoman by her neck went public. #MichaelBachman, the now-former #HamiltonCounty Common Pleas Court Magistrate, said he was forced to resign after the bizarre courtroom incident. He told Cincinnati ABC affiliate WCPO that he was to either “resign or be terminated.” “I think the video speaks for itself,” Bachman told the station in his defense. “I didn’t choke her or manhandle her. I merely put my hand up to guide her to the courtroom.” Whatever the case, Bachman put his hands on 28-year-old #KassandraJackson. “I resigned in order to save the court further consternation,” Bachman said. “But had I known it was going to become public, I would’ve defended myself in the investigation.” The incident occurred on Sept. 4 when Jackson was trying to file for a protection order but, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, staffers told her that she’d missed the 8 a.m. deadline. Jackson became visibly angry and began arguing with them before storming out of the courtroom. In the video, Bachman rushes from the bench to go after her and eventually catches up with her near the elevators. As the two are walking back to the courtroom together, Jackson tries running down a side hall. That’s when Bachman grabs her neck and then her shoulder, leading her back to the courtroom before sitting her down in the jury box. Bachman insists that he was simply trying to calm the woman down. “I wish there was sound with the video so you can hear how she yelled at the top of her lungs,” he told WCPO. “I could not hear the defense attorney questioning a witness.” Bachman found Jackson in contempt of court for her “disrespectful and disruptive behavior.” In the contempt citation, the judge wrote that Jackson was “witnessed becoming belligerent and screaming loudly in the hallways.” Jackson was initially sentenced to three days in jail. The three-day sentence was extended to a week after Jackson resisted the two deputies Bachman had ordered to arrest her. Video shows the young woman struggling as multiple officers drag her to an elevator leading to a holding area. #foodfo https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn6040DH1vk/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=e05a4dapgfz2

Gabe Davis, Prosecutor, Hamilton County, Ohio

Meet Gabe Davis
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Gabe is the proud product of Cincinnati Public Schools. The son of a police officer and a Head Start program manager, who also served abroad as missionaries during Gabe's childhood, Gabe is blessed with parents who exemplified servant leadership. Their example is what led to his desire to enter a life of public service. Their insistence that Gabe learn about the civil rights movement from an early age, and Gabe's admiration for the advocacy of those who led the movement, like Thurgood Marshall, led to his decision to study and practice law. After attending high school at the Seven Hills School on a scholarship, Gabe said goodbye to his parents and three younger sisters and attended Yale. While at Yale, Gabe worked in the library to help pay for his textbooks, and he served in student government. After graduating from Yale with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Gabe saw an opportunity to serve his home community through AmeriCorps as a Public Ally. He returned to Cincinnati to work in low-income neighborhoods, advocating and organizing for the reduction of health disparities. After a year of being back in Cincinnati, Gabe went on to Harvard Law School, where he learned and honed his legal skills. While in law school, Gabe served on the Executive Board for the Black Law Student's Association and worked as a student advocate at Harvard's housing clinic, representing tenants facing foreclosure in court. After graduating from Harvard Law and taking the bar exam, Gabe was appointed to serve as an Assistant District Attorney with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. In that role, he enforced state criminal law and worked to protect the public by prosecuting offenses such as domestic violence, fraud, assault, robbery, and burglary. He conducted witness interviews, grand jury proceedings, motion practice, hearings, trial preparation, and trial. While serving as an ADA, Gabe also married his wife, Princess, a Xavier graduate who he met during his earlier service as a Public Ally. Gabe was then appointed to serve as a federal prosecutor in the Civil Rights Division of President Obama's Department of Justice. While in this position, he protected the civil rights of vulnerable persons by leading criminal investigations and prosecutions involving serious federal offenses, including official misconduct, obstruction of justice offenses, conspiracy, and hate crimes. Gabe prosecuted cases in jurisdictions and federal courts across the country including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Ohio, and Puerto Rico. He also provided counsel to numerous law enforcement offices and agencies. Gabe consistently won recognition from the Attorney General's Office for his work at DOJ. Despite his service to the broader country, home was always calling. After having their daughter, Lizzy, Gabe and Princess decided to move back to Cincinnati to raise their daughter in the city they love to call home. Currently, they live in Pleasant Ridge. Gabe is a trial lawyer with Frost Brown Todd and Princess is a therapist with a children's social service agency. Both are active in their community and neighborhood.
