the weather was great, you were in a good mood, jiwoong was happy, everything was well

then a couple was walking with their dog in front of you two. you took notice of their dog, especially because it reminded you of something or someone...

“babe! look ! doesn’t that dog remind you of gyuvin’s dog?” you exclaimed. he looked and realized that the dog was the exact same breed as eumppappa, an italian greyhound

“oh they really do!” he said then waving at the dog who seemed thrilled and began barking excitedly

hao was actually a bit taken back that your first thought was a fellow teammate of his

“o-oh yeah they are. it’s pretty amazing isn’t it?” he smiled. you nodded eagerly, “right! i should film it and show hanbin.” you quickly pulled your phone out and pressed play on the recording button, hao though remained silent 

a while later you finally entered the mall but noticed hao’s expressions had became more sour after that encounter

you stopped scrolling to view it and were in awe at how amazing it sounded. it was beautiful and powerful to say the least, you knew you had to show ricky it

your front door opened to reveal ricky. you ran towards him to hug him, “i missed you.”

his soft chuckle made your heart melt, “i missed you too, love.” you both walked to your couch to sit

“look, look, i found this cool video of someone playing in bloom on the violin.” you shoved your phone into ricky’s face to play it

you both walked in and took a seat. a menu booklet rested on the table, you both observed it and one food item popped out to you more than the others

it was poutine. a classic canadian dish that has custard cheese and fries, you could never go wrong with that. the main reason you wanted to come here was to actually try poutine!

“oo babe can we get the poutine?” you suggested, gunwook noticed that the price was reasonable, as well the picture looked scrumtious enough to drool at

“sure!” the server came to take your order of two poutines and left, leaving you two by yourself

“y’know matthew was the one who wanted me to try poutine?” for a minute, gunwook forgot that matthew was even canadian until you brought it up

“oh really..?” you nodded, “yeah so when i saw this place it reminded me of him. we should take him here too!”

“yeah we should.” however, gunwook’s uneasy look said otherwise. you noticed and held his hand

“don’t worry you two can come alone, if that’s what you want.” he immediately shook his hands in denial. “no, no! It’s fine. I just get a bit jealous seeing you mention the hyung’s and yujin.” he mumbled

shy gunwook was the best version of gunwook, “awe, it’s okay gunwook. if it makes you feel better, i never shut up about you.”

you finally heard him chuckle, “well that is nice to hear. i think matthew hyung will really like this place.”

the cafeteria was packed so you went on a mini walk around the school to avoid the crowd until you came across a vending machine near some lockers

he gave you a side eye, “so you never had it before?” you nodded, “yeah! It looks yummy.”

you playfully rolled your eyes and declined his offer, “it doesn’t hurt to try something new.” you got the cap off and tried a bit of your drink before almost spitting it out

“what the…” you mumbled, safe to say that it wasn’t that great. yujin suddenly began laughing like a maniac as you glared at him.

“here.” he handed you his drink to which you snatched and shot him a dead stare

“let’s head to the cafeteria.” he held his hand out to which you intertwined with yours, “i know your happy that i didn’t like it.”

you never really understood why hao had so many fans wherever he went. sure, it could be his astounding violin skills or the scores on his report cards but this obviously wasn’t the case. you didn’t get why some people used you to get closer to him. in your eyes, hao was some normal, goofy guy. and you just couldn’t stop thinking about what made him super special.

it hadn’t been that long since you started being friends with him, maybe a couple years or so and hao has been nothing more than just a friend. others always thought you two were dating upon seeing how close you two were or the fact hao was never seen hanging out with someone other than you. whenever you denied these questions, they would always get so happy upon knowing hao is single.

as you were in deep thoughts, your friend nudged you “hey, are you even listening?” they said, quirking an eyebrow at you “oh yeah, my bad. continue!” you assure, pulling your full attention to them. they shake their head “anyways, as i was saying.. do you think i should ask hao out?” your head spun at the sudden question that unfortunately for you, has been asked countless of times. ‘how does he get all this attraction?’ “why do you want to ask him out..? he’s kinda weird, you know..” you knit your eyebrows together

“that’s even better, no? besides, haven’t you ever thought that he’s pretty?” this question played in your mind for the rest of the day ‘is hao.. pretty?’’ your thought bubble vanished into the air as hao sat down next to you “woah, someone’s thinking.” he smiles, laying his head on your shoulder. there was a brief moment of silence before he spoke up again “aren’t you gonna tell me what your thoughts were?”

you sigh, ‘should you tell him?’ well it possibly couldn’t hurt, right? “what do you think is ‘pretty’” you ask. hao lifted his head from your shoulder, quirking an eyebrow. you knew that confused face too well “i mean, how do you define pretty..? like, what do you find pretty?” hao thinks for a moment, pursing his lips as he taps a finger to his chin. he glances at you as he responds “i find a lot of things pretty.. like those flowers over there.” he points to the growing yellow flowers in the green patch of grass, it sure stood out and it definitely was pretty.

“but the definition of ‘pretty’ is quite difficult to explain..” he stops for a moment, hesitation shown all over his movements before fully turning to you “maybe you could tell me?” you furrow your eyebrows, did he really ask a question back to your question? “i asked that question first, though!” hao chuckles “yeah, but i thought you knew the answer to that.. cause you know, you’re pretty.” 

did he just..? huh? did you mishear him..? you let out a laugh “you’re funny hao.” he scrunches up his face “i’m telling you the truth, though. you’re pretty.” he said it again, you’re not hallucinating. hao laughs at your widened eyes and your stiff state, standing up as he had somewhere else to go.

“i gotta head somewhere but do you think you could tell me the answer some time tomorrow..? maybe at that new café that just opened a few weeks ago.” he grins, picking up his bags and slinging it over his shoulders. god, he was smooth.

“are you- are you asking me out?” your eyes are practically coming out of your sockets. hao grins at your reaction “if you want me to!” he laughs, walking away from you “i’ll pick you up at 7!” you could hear his voice from the distance. he turned around and it’s as if you’re the only two left in the world.

finally getting why everyone had a crush on him. the way the sunset’s glow bounced off his skin and how his hair was ruffy yet put to the right places. how his features were soft and fit him so well. now you get why your friend said he was pretty. zhang hao is pretty, yet he thinks you’re the prettiest thing to define in this world.

[a losing game]. seok matthew may not be the most perceptive person in the room, but even he could notice the underlying competition going on within the publication office. well, it can’t even be considered underlying because even if there’s no explicit declaration of war from any party—

“s—seonbae, this is for you!”

“are you free tonight? do you wanna grab dinner together?”

the gifts, the flowers, the compliments, the attention can all be considered as firearms and attacks in this funny, seven-way tug-of-war.

and seok matthew simply can’t miss out on all the fun.

“sorry, hyung!” target locked. calculating move. matthew quickly maneuvers past the flower bouquet wielding kim gyuvin and the observant kim jiwoong to cut in between you and hanbin. he arms with himself with an easy smile, bright and wide as he throws an arm of your shoulder, pulling you into his chest in a half-hug. “she’s already eating out with me.”

matthew decides that he has won this skirmish when hanbin’s face freezes. “oh,” his editor in chief says, followed by a pause, finished by a laugh and the resumption of his smile. “oh! well, i hope you two have a nice dinner!”

“hahaha, yes, thank you, hanbin,” you force out, a streak of discomfort in your expression even though you’re smiling as politely as you can, and it’s just too out in the open for matthew not to notice. 

“if you’re gonna be out late, my line is always open if you need a ride home.”

with that, hanbin shuffles back to his desk, and matthew is declared victorious. at least until you wiggle yourself out of his grapple and look at him with the same strained, same forced politeness that you were giving hanbin earlier. “haha, anyway,” you cough out, and matthew bites down his tongue because it would be inappropriate to laugh at you right now. “i still have some articles to copyread. if you’ll excuse me—”

“oh, i already did them, seonbae! the papers are on your desk!”  

now, matthew isn’t even sure he likes you. and quite frankly, he doesn’t care to know. he’s just in this fray because he’s irredeemably competitive and doesn’t like it when he’s left out of things.

“gunwook! why would you— i never asked you to—”

“hold on.”

oh. he has one more reason.

“there’s something in your hair.” reaching out to the side of your temple, matthew gently bristles away some hair out of your face and very boldly unclips the hair clip that jiwoong allegedly got you. it’s a frontal attack. the silence in the office is tense. “you’re prettier without it.”

you look at him. then your eyes dart down to his hand, holding the accessory. then look back up to meet his eyes again— confused, flushed, and flustered.

“uhm— oh, uh— thanks…?”

the last reason that your reactions are always cute and funny whenever he strikes an attack.

the tension is palpable. matthew hums and goes on with his day until daybreak comes, and it’s finally evening. meaning, it’s time to have dinner with you and he can finally escape from the drilling stares jiwoong has been sending him all day. you finally come back to the office— gyuvin in tow, and while you were out, matthew was doing some thinking.

if he thinks you’re cute, wouldn’t that mean he likes you? but he doesn’t think he’s as passionate as ricky or as earnest as hao when it comes to you. he’s just having a bit of fun. a bit of excitement to spice out the usual boring day-to-days in the publication office. 

well, he can just confirm his feelings over dinner. and so he does. you’re both sitting by the window at this nice thai restaurant he recently discovered. the vibe is nice. warm lights. good food. a live band in the corner. and seok matthew is currently very intently staring at your face— brows furrowed and all— because he’s trying to figure out if thinking that you’re still pretty even after a full day of work means that he does indeed like you.

“what?” you prod, setting down your water on the table because his staring interrupted your hydrating. “is there something on my face again?”

“yes.” now, you’re just giving him an opening to make an attack. matthew simply cannot help himself. “prettiness.”

this time, matthew doesn’t get the same reaction as he usually gets in response to his attacks.

you set down your fork. you wipe your lips with a napkin before setting them down, too. you’re looking serious. you don’t look flustered or uncomfortable at all and it’s starting to scare him a little. his heart rate picks up. his palms get sweaty. and for some reason, you’re looking like you’re just about to break his heart in the worst way possible.

“there’s something i want to tell you.”

Tucking the rolled yoga mat under your arm, you readjusted your stance, and stared out the window of the studio. Butterflies nosedived in your abdomen, making it nearly impossible to stand still. You took a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, trying to remember the small tricks Hao had given you to calm yourself down. It was awfully ironic that you were using them now, when he was the reason that you needed to find peace.

It wasn't that you were panicked at the thought of your first date, just anxious about all of the ways it could go wrong. Hao was thoroughly invested in both meditation and fitness, so suggesting a yoga class seemed like the perfect way to marry two of his interests. You weren't sure if he had ever been before, but you assumed it would be something he was good at.

You on the other hand? Maybe not so much.

"I knew I should have paid extra for the baby goats," you muttered, running a hand through your hair. At least if you had done goat yoga, you could play off any mistakes as excitement for being around so many small and furry things.

You checked the time on your phone again before worrying your lip. Only a few minutes until class started and you still hadn't seen Minghao coming from either end of the street. Just as you were about to shoot him a text, you saw his thin frame bobbing down the sidewalk.

Putting on your best smile, you moved toward the door and opened it as he strolled in. Grinning at you in return, he pulled you into a quick hug before letting go. "Sorry I was late, the guys-"

"It's okay," you nodded, immediately wanting to absolve him of any worry. He looked great today (but then again, when did he not?) Dressed in a simple tank top and sweatpants, it was difficult to even maintain focus. He was just that beautiful.

"What?" Hao asked, now his turn to grow confused as his friends began to filter in. Their small talk was equivalent to a roar as you felt your body growing hot with embarrassment.

Coming to a stop beside you, Mingyu draped a long arm around your neck. "Heeey."

DK shuffled over as well, trying to assess the looks on both you and Hao's faces. "Y/N?"

"I...I thought today was going to be just us," you admitted, feeling foolish. You couldn't even chance a glance toward the two other men who had inserted themselves in your conversation. It was mortifying.

Minghao's eyes grew wide as he looked from you and then back to all the members.

DK let out a nervous laugh as he patted Hao across the back. "I don't think I've ever seen anyone screw something up that fast before."

"We can leave," Mingyu blurted, unwinding himself from your body.

"No, no," you said quickly, shaking your head. Plastering on what positivity you could, you began to nod instead. "Let me double check and make sure there's enough spots for everyone."

Wandering over to the counter you had checked in at, you could feel your face grow flush before you even started speaking. "Sorry, um...the class that's about to start? You wouldn't happen to have twelve additional spots, would you?"

The girl behind the counter blanched before taking a moment to respond. "I could look?"

"Thank you," you said quietly, glancing over your shoulder. You couldn't help but feel awkward as you watched several of the members surround Minghao, shoving him in the shoulders as the pointed vehemently toward you. Just great, now they all knew you had expected this to be a date.

"Actually," the studio receptionist hummed, getting your attention again. "It looks like we have another class starting in a few minutes that has room for you all. Do you want me to switch you over to that one?"

"Sure, that would be great," you sighed in relief. Placing your elbows on the counter, you dropped your face into your hands and tried to focus on your breathing again.

"Okay," the girl continued. "That's going to be ₩621,981.50."

Lifting your face, you tried not to cringe. While that wasn't the largest amount of money you had ever spent, it was still more than you had expected to pay today.

"I got it," Hao said quietly as his body joined yours at the counter. Looking up, you found him avoiding eye contact and gnawing at the skin on the side of his thumb.

"No, really," you tried, trying to salvage any chance at normality. "I invited you guys out here, let me pay."

"No, Y/N," he asserted. "You invited me. Then I was the one who went and fumbled the situation. Badly."

Sliding his card across the counter, he moved to face you. Leaning against the edge of the tabletop, he looked at you directly. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be," you grimaced. It was hard to meet his eyes. "I should have told you I expected it...that I wanted it to be..."

"A date?" he finished, lifting a brow.

"A date," you repeated numbly. How horrifying was it that you had to admit it out loud?

After a moment of silence, Hao cleared his throat. "It can still be a date."

"You don't have to humor me," you groaned, still avoiding eye contact.

"Y/N," he murmured. "Please look at me."

Moodily acquiescing, your eyes found his.

"If I had realized this was meant to be something special for just the two of us," he said slowly. "You know I would have been more than okay with that, right?"

"I just thought..."

"Looking back, you did everything right," he said, nodding encouragingly. "I was the one who obviously thought there was no universe in which you would actually want to go on a date with me."

"What?"

"I'm weird, Y/N," he chuckled. "Good looking, but weird."

"Hao," you choked out on a laugh. "At least you're self-aware?"

Breaking into a wide smile, he reached up to rub his hand along your arm. "I'll make this up to you. I promise."

Inhaling deeply, you gave a short nod. It was hard to maintain your cool when he finally set the record straight. He did want to go on a date, he just didn't realize that you had wanted that as well.

Bringing you into his side for a quick hug, his hands lingered on your lower back when you pulled away again. Cutting your eyes toward him, you tried not to spontaneously combust as he licked his lips.

"Sir?" the girl behind the counter asked, waving Hao's card in the air. "You can move to Studio 3 now."

"Oh my god, it's fucking goats," Vernon called over his shoulder, stumbling into the room first.

Minghao looked toward you, an alarmed expression clear on his face.

"They're babies!" Dino gasped, surging forward to cuddle one of the small goats roaming the room.

"What happens if they poop?" Seungkwan muttered, side eying the members closest to him. "Specifically, on us?"

"A little goat poop never hurt anyone," Seungcheol chuckled, somehow already holding a goat and allowing it to lick his chin.

"Did you originally book us for this?" Minghao whispered, his breath hot on your ear.

Trying to ignore the shiver caused by his proximity, you shrugged. "Nope, I didn't spring for goat yoga...but apparently you did."

"Perfect," he muttered, shaking his head in disbelief. "I did not foresee any of the events today coming to fruition."

Sliding his fingers between yours, he gave them a small squeeze. Motioning to the room with his free hand, he grimaced. "Thank you for dealing with...all of this."

You looked out at the boys who had joined you today, settling themselves on their chosen yoga mats. Their wide smiles and laughter were enough to turn your mood from disappointment to something significantly warmer. Seeing them this happy made your heart feel like it could burst.

"While both the goats and the guys were a surprise," you nodded. "It's definitely become a welcome one."

"Oh?" Hao smirked. "Sooo I don't have to make it up to you after all?"

"Now I never said that," you giggled.

"Fine," he said, giving a dramatic eye roll. "I guess I was looking forward to making it up to you anyway."

"This is the best date I've ever been on," DK cried. Laying on his back and covered by baby goats, you thought he would simply explode from happiness.

"More like the best day of my life!" Jun chimed from beside him, a goat chewing lazily on the ends of his hair.

"At least you made them happy," Minghao chuckled, pushing his shoulder into yours. After what was an extremely interesting session, you had both ended up on the same yoga mat, leaning against each other as you watched the interactions around you.

Petting absent-mindedly at the small goat that had settled into your lap, you smiled at him. "And I didn't make you happy?"

"Of course, you did," he smiled. "You're really good at it too." Bending toward you, he pressed a light kiss to your temple.

"Don't kiss our date!" Jeonghan gasped, pointing an accusing finger at Minghao. "If you kiss Y/N, we all kiss Y/N!"

Nodding vehemently, Hoshi sprang to his feet as he began to circle the pair of you. This startled the goat you had been holding, causing him to spring away from you and jump roughly onto Dino's stomach.

"I promise you," Minghao said, wrapping his arms protectively around you. "If your lips even get near Y/N, you will fear my wrath."

"Wrath?" Wonwoo chuckled. "Someone needs more goat yoga."

"No more goat yoga," Woozi said definitively from his spot in the corner. "Next time, can't we just...get a meal? Do as the mentally sound people do?"

"That's asking a lot," Joshua grinned, aggressively petting a goat that had taken up residence on Mingyu's chest.

"No next times," Minghao sighed into the top of your head, still not letting you go. "I have a date to take you on first."

"What do you mean?" you teased, looking up at him through your lashes. "This is a date. And honestly, it's going to be hard to top."

The eliminations brought nothing but anxiety and nervousness to all contestants, including ricky. But seeing who the planet master was brought nothing but a smile to his face and to his heart.

Going into the 3rd elimination felt specially hard for the trainees as they were further into the competition, everyone was really tired and they all had gotten quite close to each other. So it was really hard already to fight with them for a spot on the finale.

As ricky and the rest of the trainees entered the well known by now place where they had been fighting for their dream the crippling anxiety and nervousness started to appear inside of them. Just the thought of their debut opportunity slipping through their hands was heartbreaking.

They did their little intros and headed to their assigned places to wait patiently for their new planet master to start as soon as possible.

"Who do you guys think will be the planet master"asked jeonghyeon

"I honestly don't know, they've even managed to brought Key sunbaenim, so it could be literally anybody"answered zhang hao

"Yeah"said ricky

As music started playing and the lights turned black everyone immediately went silent seeing a silhouette approaching the main stage.

"OMG isn't that y/n sunbaenim?"shouted junhyeon as you got closer to the trainees view finding their reaction adorable and heart-warming as you saw their eyes shine in excitement. But you were specially curious to see someone's particular reaction.

As you bowed to all the trainees your eyes lingered a little bit longer on a blond haired guy that was watching you with an ambiguous expression, somewhere in between shock and thrill to have you right in front of him.

As you got your microphone to your mouth in order to speak you grabbed everyone's attention making the room silent on the process.

"Hello everyone, I'm actress y/n, also known as (your group name) shining princess " your last words being accompanied with the here I am signature gesture (you know, the nan binnaaaa)

You and ricky exchanged little glances at each other shortly before continuing your speech.

Ricky felt your eyes on him and flashed you the sweetest smile someone could have dedicated you ever, this not being unnoticed by ricky's team mates, as they literally saw their friend shining and sparkling once you entered the room.

As you explained the dynamics of the elimination ricky couldn't help but look at you with admiration and appreciation, a caring look present on his face and a feeling of comfort, like carresing your pet after a long day of work or watching your favourite show for the 20th time.

After some time announcing the survivors ricky started to get quite anxious, he was scared because the highest rankings had been taken up already and the only ones left were the lower ones, although if he actually got there he would still be honoured because the star creators would have given him another opportunities to show his multiple talents on stage.

He felt somehow relieved to have you near him, as he could have someone to go to righ after the surviving announcement finished. But still, it was pretty hard to handle.

You got a little break due to the outdoor activities video that they put to reduce the tension in the room, there when all the trainees were watching the clips laughing at the funny moments and commenting things between everyone you and ricky locked eyes again making you both smile unconsciously at the sight of each other.

Looking at both sides to see if anyone noticed you started to communicate with ricky throughout signs and reading lips. You also used little gestures to get your message across as at a distance was harder to understand each other.

Right after it you proceeded to continue announcing rankings, but this time they were on the top 9. You won't lie, you were pretty nervous as well, not having called for ricky's name had surprised you as much as it has given hope, he may be one of the top 9 trainees!

As you prepared to read the number 8 you felt your heart accelerate as you tried really hard not to smile widely and just run into your boyfriend's arms.

"Congratulations for the 8th place for...Ricky!"you announced with a smile on your face

He felt his whole world being brightened up as he resisted the urge to leave everything behind and give you the biggest hug you could ever get.

He stepped into the stage and as he thanked star creators for all the support he gave you a timid look to which you responded by looking at him with a sweet smile that could be infected to almost everyone.

The eliminations had officially finished,and although it was sad to see their friends part ways he couldn't help but feel so greatful for the position he got as an 8th rank.

As he saw you going off stage he somehow managed to sneek off following you backstage where you were waiting for him with your script still in hand.

"Congratulations for making it into the top 9 babyyyy"you said opening your arms to welcome him in a bear hug.

"Thanks"he reciprocated your action giggling softly

"You worked so hard to get there, I'm so proud"

Right in that moment he swore you could notice how his eyes literally sparkled with adoration and gratitude for your words, he saw how you looked back with the same expression,making it very hard for him to not be heels over you.

So he just went for it and leaned for a kiss, it literally made you feel fireworks as you put your arms around his shoulders and wrapped his hands around your waist. The comfort and the softness that the kiss made him feel was something he couldn't explain with words, it was purely sweet and an act of love he found so endearing.

As you separated after lingering on his lips for longer than expected you joined your foreheads together while you recovered from your beating hearts and your heavy breathes.

"Well as much as I'd love to stay here like this you've got to go ricky"

"What if I don't want to?"he asked in hopes you didn't ushered him out of the room.

"Rickyyyy"you whined.

"Alright, alright I'll get going"he said letting you go and asking for another kiss on his cheek before stepping out of the room.

You threw him an annoyed look as you gave him what he wanted.

Coming back to his team he was met with all smug grins and raised eyebrows, making him confused.

"What?"he asked

"Where were you?"

"Umm in the bathroom"he answered making up an excuse for his absence.

"Well unless you went to the second floor one the closest bathroom is at the other direction sherlock"said jay

Shit, he had been caught.

"And I think the lipstick mark you've got there says otherwise" answered uninterested zhang hao

He immediately wiped off the pretty mark he had on the corner of his lips watching them embarrassed.

"Well, how long has it been?"

"A-a couple months now"he said accepting his fate

"Well we've got plenty to catch up on so you better get started"

Yeah, he had a long way till they released him...
