the moment you looked at him, smiled and asked for his name, suna could vividly recall knowing what was going to happen to him. (if he could escape it, he would’ve. but he’s glad he never tried to). he saw it coming from miles away, yet, he decided to stay standing there, bracing himself for the impact.

rintarou always had a habit of catching feelings rather quickly. but to make up for it, he’s also good at losing feelings just as fast. (or running away, if it ever came down to it).

but with you, he couldn’t find it in him to willingly stop.

he thinks he realized this at the summer festival in his second year, when you both were watching the fireworks display. for once, he’s thanking the twins and their schemes, because that memory is one of his favourites.

as colours burst in the night sky, as laughter and booms flooded his ears, he feels something in him that tells him he never wants to hurt you.

four years later, and he’s hurt you more times than he can count on two hands, but he’s thankful you gave him the many chances to make up for it.

nine-thirty a.m. he rolls over to see you fully submerged under the blanket, your limbs wrapped around the stuffed animal he won you at an amusement park last spring.

as he lifts up the blanket, he wonders why he ever decided to play that stupid basketball game, because now, a stuffed animal is in your arms instead of him.

a thought crosses his mind and he knows it mean. but he doesn’t seem to care as he rips it out of your grasp, quickly replacing it with him. you stir in irritation, to which he replies by kissing your nose.

rin smiles. he smiles so genuinely that his eyes crinkle.

as you’re crawling back into bed, he tackles you, caging you in with his limbs.

“you’re annoying.” you say, giving up.

rintarou wonders if he’s still sleeping. he wonders if this moment with you is all in his head, and that he’d be waking up any second now.

but when he looks at you, sleep still fogging up his brain, he thinks that, maybe, if this is all a dream (it’s not), he’ll just take it with him into reality.

it was during that time, when you and suna were cooking, that he realised he actually liked you, and not as a friend

okay, despite the confession, you and suna were really private about your relationship

well, as private as you can get when the two of you had the perfect opportunity to piss off a certain pair of twins
