Drabble 21 - Max P.

You and Max are attending a Halloween party. This is just pure self indulgence. I would give pretty much anything to see Pedro in a Frank-N-Furter get up! Also a woman dressed as Schrodinger's cat is the best costume I've ever seen.

“Max c’mon! We’re going to be late!”

You’re fixing your hair in the mirror, adjusting your bunches and straightening the cat ears in front of them.

While you hadn’t particularly wanted to be a “sexy” anything for the Halloween party tonight, Max had taken one look at you in your catsuit when you had tried it on and declared that it was impossible for you not to look sexy in it. Which was pretty flattering, you had to admit as you check your make up in the mirror for the third time.

The compromise you had reached with yourself was that you wanted to make the costume a little different. So, half of your face now has standard whiskers, cat eye make up, a little triangle of pink on your nose. While the other half is done up to look like the skull of a cat in glow in the dark face paint that you hope won't come off too easily during the night's festivities. Some of the catsuit is painted too – bones appearing over half of your body and one arm and leg.

Satisfied that your outfit looks great, you grab the cardboard box that completes it and call out again.

“Max! What’s taking so-“

At the sound of the bedroom door opening you look up and it feels like all the air rushes out of your lungs at once.

“Helloooo sweet thing,” he says, his attempt at a Received Pronunciation accent truly terrible. But you can forgive it. You can forgive anything at the sight of him in make up, a basque, fishnets and heels.

“Fuuuuu-“ is all you manage before he is upon you and sweeping you into his arms.

“You like?” he asks in his usual accent, a slight anxiety behind the bravado the costume affords.

“Dr Frank-N-Furter. You look incredible,” you breathe. “Do you…I mean…do we have to go out?” you splutter as you run your hands over the sequins covering his torso and down to the extremely flattering leather underwear he was wearing.

He bats your hand away gently before he replies. “Yes we do. We’ve both worked way too hard on these costumes. Besides, I’m pretty sure everyone thinks I’ll come as Dracula, and I wanna show them how good I look in heels.”

You huff a noise of mild annoyance. “Fiiine. But you better keep allll of this on when we get home!”

“I will if you will kitty-cat,” he grins as you leave for your evening together.

Hi! Are there any differences among Belgian French, Swiss French, French spoken in Monaco and Standard French? I’ve heard that people in Monaco speak Standard French, sometimes with a slight southern accent.

The Belgian can have an accent (that can be very minimal or super pronounced), especially if their first language is Flemish, and a few words we never use (ex: Nonante for 90).

The Swiss are surrounded by France, Italy and Germany, so their location will determine their accent. Their pronunciation is usually a lot better than ours - we tend to chew words.

The Monegasque speak Standard French (which I'd call the Parisian accent) despite being located in Southern France. It would be hard to explain why in detail but my guess is that the southern accent is usually not considered very attractive and can make you harder to understand so it's easier and fancier to speak regular French, especially because they get a lot of tourists.

I have seen a lot of the country and deeply believe that accents and dialects will eventually faint, maybe to the point of disappearing (not talking about other languages like Breton or Basque).

For example, I was raised in Northern France and know the local dialect (Ch'ti/Picard) because of my grandparents but it wasn't taught at school and most of the other kids, myself included, tried very hard to drop any trace of the accent because it's considered ugly and linked to the region, which is known to be extremely poor and land to alcoholism and unemployment, so using it in my private, social or professional life wouldn't serve me at all. The last Picard professor of the country taught in my university and died a few years ago, and UNESCO declared it to be seriously endangered.

It's less true in the south because there are most speakers and lots of people are very proud of their accent that can sound like singing; yet none of my southern friends my age has an accent because they made the same choice to make themselves sound neutral and easier to communicate with, especially when living in big cities.

Utapri Language Headcanons

Note: I haven’t played the games, so I don’t know if any characters are confirmed to be multilingual. These are just headcanons based on their personalities and interests.

* Haruka- basic English from her school days. She knows some fragmented Italian from working on a few operas and studying music terminology. She’s also learning some Agnacian so Cecil can speak his own language with someone.

* Tomochika- English and Korean because she does some international work in America and South Korea.

* Otoya- basic English that he’s slowly improving.

* Masato- English and Mandarin because they would be useful languages for taking over the family business.

* Natsuki- French and Basque. I headcanon him as having some French blood, and the Basque region just feels right.

* Tokiya- this bookworm is a polyglot. It probably started with him wanting to be able to read more types of books. I can see him picking up languages for fun, though. English, German, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Korean. His next goal is the Romance languages and Vietnamese.

* Ren- proficient in most of the Romance languages, but fluent in Italian. Seduction is his goal, and he loves the way the languages roll and flow.

* Syo- English and a smattering of French from accompanying his father to Fashion Week.

* Cecil- Agnacian, English, and Arabic for diplomatic purposes. Probably passable at Hebrew, Greek, and Farsi for the same reasons.

* Reiji- English! He loves the UK, so his English has a British clip to it. He’s fluent. He probably knows a tiny bit of German, too.

* Ranmaru- coarse German from time spent in the live houses there.

* Ai- any language, but with a Google Translate level of accuracy unless he studies the language more intentionally.

* Camus- I believe the language of Permafrost is a dialect of French, so he can speak both the dialect and standard French (lmao, imagine him having a northern France accent). I see him also speaking English and German because of his diplomatic affairs.

* Eiichi- English and Spanish. He’s a world-traveler, and those two languages are useful to know. His Spanish has a slight Colombian accent because that’s where he stayed the longest.

* Eiji- English

* Kira- English and Mandarin because of the family business.

* Nagi- another polyglot. I can see Nagi having an interest in Slavic languages, so Russian and Polish. He also speaks English because it’s useful, Korean because he works in Seoul on occasion, and then Gaelic for a challenge.

* Van- rough English, but decent Cantonese, which surprises everyone who hears him.

* Yamato- basic English. He doesn’t think he even needs that, but he excelled in the oral part of English class despite not caring.

* Shion- Ancient Greek for some vague reason.

* Ringo- English and Korean because they’re the most useful in his idol work.

* Ryuuya- English.
