Review film: Past Lives

semalem gua mencoba menghibur dan mengistirahatkan diri dengan menonton film. Alhamdulillah sekarang kebutuhan gua nonton film sangat sangat sangat tertolong dan terbantu dengan aplikasi netflix dan lok-lok. jadi gua gausa repot repot ke bioskop ato download download ngabisin kuota dulu.

entah kenapa akhir-akhir ini gua lagi menikmati rehat dengan nonton film yang beneran gua tonton dari awal sampe akhir, bukan setengah setengah ato ngga gua abisin karena kudu move on ngelakuin hal lain. kemaren aja nonton pride and prejudice yang uda gua tonton berkali-kali, tapi se-terhibur itu. dan sangat mengistirahatkan diri. emang, kalo mau istirahat teh, kagak usah muluk ato susah susah, cari aja hal di sekitar.

jadi film yang gua tonton semalem judulnya 'Past Lives'

begitu liat posternya, gua langsung tertarik nonton karena ternyata ini adalah film yang gua cari udah lama. ini film awalnya debut di festival film gitu, trus ditayangin di entah bioskop atau di saluran streaming mana. pokok para cast nya ini sempet di wawancara dan gua nonton wawancara nya. dan pemain utama cowoknya itu, gua lupa namanya, tapi gua kenal orang nya. yaitu dia yang jadi member di varshow barengan ama kai, honeymoon tavern.

dari poster, uda keliatan dong yaa genre nya. pasti drama, pasti romantis dan kemungkinan besar pieces of life.

emang bener. sangat sangat mencerminkan karakteristik yang uda gua sebutkan tadi.

jadi pemain utama cowok dan cewek ini adalah sahabat masa kecil. mereka langganan jadi juara 1 dan juara 2 di SD. tinggalnya juga deketan, sering pulang bareng. dan sama sama saling suka pada saat SD. sampe si cewek dan keluarganya kudu imigrasi ke amerika. yang gua bingungnya, ini cewek pendidikan di keluarganya gimana yah? ato emang ada hubungannya dengan karakteristik anaknya. soalnya adegan persiapan mau imigrasi ke amerikanya nih, kayak dibuat santai banget, no drama, dan si cewek ini walopun dia masi SD pada saat itu, cool banget menghadapi situasi. padahal kan dia pasti lagi pengen-pengennya ya main sama temen, ngga takut apa dia nggak bakal dapet temen di amerika? kayak, santai banget 'iya aku mau ke amerika'. trus temennya nanya, 'kenapa harus imigrasi?'. 'kamu tau kan? di korea kita gabisa dapet penghargaan nobel prize dari menulis'.

mana ada seantero dunia, anak SD diiming-imingi bisa dapet penghargaan nobel prize biar dia ngga mewek diajak pindah ke amerika?

12 tahun berlalu. ternyata haesung masih suka sama nayoung dan nyariin nayoung. and somehow mereka bisa kontakan, dan sering video call-an. nayoung seneng haesung juga seneng.

terus tetiba nayoung minta untuk stop kontakan, at least sampe mereka bisa bener bener ketemu offline. adegan mereka memutuskan untuk putus kontak, bener bener no drama abis, tapi menurut gua, emosinya tetep berasa. kerindungan, sedih, perasaan ngga masuk akal sekaligus masuk akal, considerate sekaligus ngga ingin berpisah di saat mereka akhirnya bisa ketemu.

entah ini plot cerita yang super real abis, ato kah fantasi, tapi gua merasa kalo gua ada di posisi yang sama, gua akan melakukan hal yang sama. bahkan gua pernah melakukannya.

singkat cerita, mereka akhirnya ngga kontakan, dari yang tadinya kirain bakal cuma setahun ngga kontakannya, ternyata sampe bertahun tahun. nayoung malah ketemu cowok lain, dan.... menikah.

cowok lainnya kebetulan white guys, namanya arthur. sedangkan nayoung dan haesung korea. nayoung dan arthur menjadi pasangan yang awet dan menikah sampe 7 tahun, trus akhirnya haesung dateng nyambangin nayoung ke amrik.

haesung dan nayoung akhirnya meet in person lagi setelah 24 tahun ngga ketemu. dan keliatan banget haesung masih cinta sama nayoung walaupun tau nayoung udah punya suami. tapi ini bukan film yang berantakan, yang trus haesung ngerebut nayoung dari arthur ato arthur cemburu buta sampe ngelabrak haesung.

pada akhirnya si haesung balik ke korea. nayoung nganterin haesung nunggu uber di luar rumah agak jauh jalan dari rumah. adegan ini, dari nayoung dan haesung jalan depan rumah ke tempat mereka nunggu uber, the silence saat mereka tatap tatapan lagi pas nunggu uber, haesung mulai ambil posisi tapi jaraknya masih jauh dari nayoung, mereka tatap tatapan kayak masih ada yang kurang gitu sebelum mereka akhirnya berpisah, trus ubernya tetiba dateng break the silence dan haesung in the end cuma bisa meluk nayoung doang. ubernya pergi ngangkut haesung dan nayoung jalan balik ke rumah. semua itu feels like one take, ato emang beneran one take. kayak gaada dipotong potongnya soalnya.

akhirnya seru, si arthur ternyata nunggu nayoung balik dari nganterin haesung di depan rumah. begitu nayoung liat arthur, dia tiba tiba mewek. arthur yang liat ini, bener bener ngga ngomong apa apa, cuma nyamperin trus meluk. pas dipeluk si nayoung nangis makin kejer.

HASEUNG/HAYCOUPS (SEUNGCHEOL x HAEUN)

Ever since Haeun became a trainee back in 2014, he became really soft on her, even though she was really shy. When Pledis announced she’d join the team in ‘Pretty U’, he was probably the member who worried the most about her well being and the hate she’d receive. Nevertheless, he is her older brother and has no shame in admitting he’s whipped for her. Haeun respects Seungcheol not only because he’s the leader, the oldest or who trained the longest period, she really looks up to him because of his caring, attentive and considerate personality.

JEONGEUN/HAYHAN (JEONGHAN x HAEUN)

He showers her with love, affection and attention since day 1 when she started to practise ‘Pretty U’ with them (he basically adopted her now he’s her mom). Whenever he was up when Haeun was leaving for school, he’d walk halfway till there with her, try (focus on trying) to help her with homework and so on. Jeonghan used to brush her hair after shower when Haeun was so sleepy that she couldn’t keep her eyes open, after a few years he still had this habit and Eun was the only one who could play with Han’s long hair. To Haeun, Jeonghan is someone she can count on whenever she needs a shoulder to cry on.

JIEUN/HAYSHUA (JISOO x HAEUN)

He! Is! Such! An! Older! Brother! From the moment he saw a small girl looking like a lost puppy in the hallways of Pledis’ basement speaking full English, Josh knew he’d take care of her. He really is an older brother figure for her like Mark, takes such good care of her and is her source of “home comfort”. Josh also enjoys playing the guitar with Hayley because she always ends up singing softly the tune he’s jamming to, so expect a lot of “Sunday morning rain is falling” coming from these two. Haeun is really attached to him, she tells him everything (and Hansol ends up knowing as well since they usually speak in English), he knows her the best basically.

HUIEUN/HAYJUN (JUNHUI x HAEUN)

She’s probably the only member that Junhui doesn’t roll his eyes at whatever shit Haeun does. Definitely he’s the leader of ‘Protect Haeun At All Cost Squad’, he’s really protective over her when Performance Team is creating a new choreography, Jun’s the first one to oppose any idea that might be dangerous or too revealing for Haeun (it was such a pain in the ass to make him agree with ‘Who’ choreography). He’s not more whipped for her than Seungcheol, but he definitely is pretty close. Haeun finds in Junhui the courage to be herself, he’s her #1 supporter to be whoever she wants to be and to do anything she wants to.

SOONEUN/2H (SOONYOUNG x HAEUN)

At the same time Soonyoung treats Haeun as an adult during practises, he also treats her like his little sister, babying her with no end. He annoys her by doing aegyo on purpose (even though Haeun has a soft spot for him) and disturbs her when she’s focused on something, but Soonie just does those things in order to make her leave her shell (and maybe yell at him to stop). They were a bit off during Hay’s first days on Seventeen only had one big fight, but after that they reached a unique level of friendship. Haeun admires him for making amazing choreographies – she’s the only person that understands his notebook – and she always laughs with Soonyoung

WONEUN/HAYWOO (WONWOO x HAEUN)

From the moment Wonwoo discovered that Haeun also liked reading, he fell in love with her (platonically for god’s sake). Wonu takes such good care of her, always buys her food and he’s one of the members who knows how to calm her down and shush her to sleep when she’s a lot on her mind. He helps her in improving her rapping skills and highkey hates when she doubts her own capacity. Haeun found in Wonwoo peace, he’s the source of calmness she needs to not freak out.

HOOEUN/HAYZI (JIHOON x HAEUN)

Jihoon can’t be mad at her, he’d never yell or be too harsh with her while recording, he’d help her to give her best at the same time worrying to not hurt her throat.
