The buddietommy hockey!au no one asked for~

Buck and Eddie are a d pair. Obviously. They've been a d pair for a good chunk of their careers. While they're not always always on ice together (sometimes Coach gets experimental with the lines) there is a very good bet that if the team is down, Diaz and Buckley are going over the boards at the same time.

Eddie is a little more forward minded. He's the defense that can put up points if the opportunity arises. There's been a few seasons where Eddie has somehow been the goal leader for the first few games, before the team gets their legs up under themselves. Buck blocks. He's throwing his body down to the ice to catch that fucking puck. He can and has taken a puck to the jaw to stop it from finding the back of the net.

They're also bros. Buddies, if you will. They roomed as rookies. They're neighbors that carpool. Multiple fans have posted selfies where they ran into Eddie and Buck at the same time at the grocery store or something. (Chris is very purposefully not in view, because Eddie is very strict about not putting his son in the lime light.)

They also. You know. Help each other out ;) like good bros do. It's casual. It's always been casual. Often on the road. Hand jobs or oral or rutting against each other. They don't fuck, that'd be gay. But they do... come in each other's mouths. Shut up. They're both straight. It's fine. It's casual. They don't do it when either of them has a girl. It's just when they're single. When they're bored. When they've had a good (or a bad) game and want to let off that extra energy.

And then Tommy.

Tommy was actually a rookie on their team, before either of them were drafted, and long since traded away to a different conference. He's getting close to retirement, one of those players where it's a shame he hasn't been on a Stanley Cup Winning Team yet. This season Tommy's signed back on as a veteran goaltender, in order to be a good influence to the 24 year old goalie that's on the roster.

And both of them are lowkey obsessed with Tommy.

It starts off as normal defensemen behavior. Don't touch my goalie. Don't look at my fucking goalie. You good babe? Great save out there, you're like a fucking wall. Beaut of a pad save. Standard run of the mill "I Love and Support My Goalie" behavior on both of their parts.

But then Tommy starts hanging out. He just moved back to the city and is renting a place near their neighborhood, so of course he's now in their carpool. He's terrible at video games, and Chris loves to destroy him. He grills on Eddie's back porch. He crashes on Buck's couch.

Tommy was brought on to mentor their rookie goalie, but oops. The rookie gets injured early in the season. Tommy becomes the starting goalie. He's a veteran on the game, it makes sense. And then somehow, on the tail end of his career, he really starts fucking cooking. His save percentage is fucking ridiculous. He's managing saves and shutouts and statistics that are normally reserved for goalies 5 years younger. He's never been an All Star Goalie, but this season he will be.

Buck comes up to Eddie at some point in mid December, and explains that he's seeing someone.

"Oh nice, what's her name?" Eddie asks with genuine curiosity.

"Well," Buck says, going a little pink, "It's not-it's different. I'm not seeing a girl."

And Eddie blinks and then stares, as Buck begins to stumble through an explanation that he's seeing Tommy. They're not gonna come out or anything, it won't be public, but they're together and it's serious.

It's not a big deal. Of course it's not a big deal. "I'm happy for you bro" Eddie says while his mind is reeling. Apparently Buck wasn't as straight as he thought.

Nothing changes. Everything changes. Tommy's still there. Still in Eddie's house, still playing video games with Eddie's kid. But now Tommy's fingertips are gently tracing patterns on Buck's upper arm. Now Buck is busy looking at Tommy with open tenderness. Now Eddie sees them kissing each other 'hello' and 'goodbye', soft and careful. Tommy's good for Buck. Better for Buck than any of the other people he's dated in the past.

Eddie's left watching their relationship start to grow, slow and gentle and sure. Like it was inevitable. Eddie's left wondering what it is about Tommy that made Buck want to be serious, when Eddie's been here the whole time. He's not jealous. He's not.

This might be their year though. They've gone from being a 'maybe' team for the playoffs to a 'definitely'. Eddie wants the cup. He wants it like an ache. Whatever is going on with Buck and Tommy is secondary to that. He shouldn't be thinking about it.

He thinks about it so much.
