So, I’m taking notes on how old the Kirkwall crew is supposed to be to keep it all straight in my fic. Putting it here so I can find it again. If I’m wrong, I really don’t care. These are just headcanons as informed by the best canon I have access to.
Hawke: 9:06 Dragon (Upon arrival in Kirkwall, Gamlen says Leandra ran off with Malcolm 25 years ago while pregnant with him. Assuming the pregnancy was not far advanced, that places Hawke’s age at 24 in 9:30 Dragon).
Hawke Twins: 9:12 Dragon (Leandra mentions that she’d cared for Bethany for 18 years when she died. That places the twins age at 18 in 9:30 Dragon).
Aveline Vallen: 9:04 Dragon (In Act 2 of DA2, which kicks off in 9:34 Dragon, a couple of NPCs remark about Aveline being surprisingly accomplished ‘at such a young age.’ Aveline was an officer at Ostagar, which would have taken a few years to achieve. If she entered the military at 16, which was common in Medieval times, that gives her 10 years to climb through the ranks when the Blight hits in 9:30 Dragon. She and my Hawke have similar personalities and seem close in age, so I’m going with it).
Varric Tethras: 9:00 Dragon (Shortly after the DA2 release I distinctly remember reading on one of Mary Kirkby’s forums that Varric was a dwarf ‘in his early 40s.’ I have to admit, though, this is one instance where I don’t mind a little reductive retconning. He never struck me as that much older than Hawke. According to WoT, Andvar Tethras, was exiled during King Endrin Aeducan's second year of reign, which was at 8:98 Blessed. He died 5 years later, i.e. in 9:03 Dragon, when Varric was 2. This makes him 31 when he approaches Hawke and sibling in the High Town market in 9:31 Dragon).
Fenris: 9:09 Dragon (Inferences from canon and Roman history, assuming that is what Tevinter culture is based on, put him somewhere between 14 and 17 years old when he competed for the marking. Given that the use of elven children as ‘body slaves’ appears to be disturbingly common, as confirmed by Gatt (liberated at age 8) and Fiona (liberated at age 7), I’m leaning toward the younger end of the spectrum. Also, when I first played, I figured he was supposed to be about midway between Hawke and Carver age-wise, i.e. 22 in 9:31 Dragon).
Anders: 9:02 Dragon (Anders says that he was 12 when he was taken away to the Circle and that he’d been trying to escape for almost 2 decades when he meets the Warden Commander in 9:31 Dragon. Technically, this makes it a little tough to reconcile him being in Kirkwall meeting Hawke in the same year if the Warden Commander recruited him, but w/e. Assuming he was taken to the Circle in 09:14 Dragon, that gives him 16 years of escape attempts. Again, that’s on the low end of the estimate, but he doesn’t look that much older than Hawke. Given what he’s been though, it’s even fair to say he’d be younger than he looks).
Isabela: between 9:01 and 9:03 Dragon (Still have to refine my math on this, but I read somewhere that Isabela was 19 when Zevran killed her husband, which means she was little more than a kid when her mother sold her to the guy. She tells Hawke that she’d been captaining her own ship for 10 years when it ran aground in Kirkwall in 9:31 Dragon).
Merrill: between 9:11 and 9:13 Dragon (This is going by her casting in DA2 and that awkward-teenager vibe I got from her and Carver. No one is going to convince me that she is older than 20 when they meet in 9:31 Dragon. My hc is that she is around 18 years old. She was given to the Sebrae Clan at age 4, when she’d already been identified as a mage. As far as I know, that’s the youngest mage to be confirmed in-game. She tells Hawke that studying took up the bulk of her childhood, so I doubt Maretahri would have waited long to commence her training as First).

BTQ
B - A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind
Bethistair, and you’re the someone 👀👀👀
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)
One of them we’ve talked about, which is that Fenris misses Tevinter fruits and that Hawke buys him one as soon as she can afford it, and he’s all like oh thank the Maker.
Sexuality-wise, I would die for bi Cassandra!! Also I HC Solas as a service top, if the relationship is consummated, which is (kind of?) in contrast to the power dynamics that I see ascribed to Solavellan in a lot of fandom.
Q - A ship you’ve abandoned and why
I don’t know if I’ve been really actively shipping for long enough to truly abandon anything, but since it’s just been a long-ass time since I played Origins, I guess I don’t really ship Alistair with the Warden that much anymore?? Even though the Alistair romance was my whole heart when I first played and I was deeply upset as a teenager to find out that Steve Valentine does not actually look like Alistair that much. Bethistair has taken over my brain in that respect so I need him to be, y’know, available for their future meeting. I’m still willing to write it, but my canon F!Tabris romance is now Zevran.
