     ᴠᴇʀsᴇ. genya. pokémon.

          it will bite savagely with its sharply pointed fangs.

     Genya is a Dark-Type focused trainer who is fighting toward becoming Champion in order to gain his brother’s approval. His team (below) is made up mostly of unevolved Pokémon, so it is not uncommon for him to be teased and bullied for being a bad trainer. Even so, his team does know that he is a kind person despite the walls he has put up to avoid be friending anyone that may come across him.

     Eventually his team does evolve, even obtaining a Mega Evolution bracelet and a Mawilite, as well as the Dark Memory and Poison Memory disks for Silvally.

     Notes:

Poochyena was his first Pokémon and was extremely feral when he was captured. Genya still has bite marks on his arms from that time. Things changed when Poochyena ran away and Genya found him being attacked by a wild Vigoroth. Genya threw himself in between them to protect his Poochyena and from then on they have been inseparable.

Type: Null was found abandoned by another trainer that was unwilling to deal with how stubborn and disobedient it was.

His Toxitricity is his strongest Pokémon, hands down, however... he rarely wants to battle and would rather laze about and play his guitar gills with Linoone.

WHEN DO YOU GAZE AT YOUR SOULMATE?

when they don't see you

you love them and you're not sure they know. but that's okay. you're used to loving more than you are loved. you give more than is given. and maybe others don't understand but you don't expect more. you tell yourself the love in your heart is not meant to be savored by anyone other than you. it's more than enough to get to exist at the same time as them. you stand in their shadow and you thank the sun for casting it. they touch your arm but they do not feel the same warmth which lingers on your skin for days. you gaze at them and they might even be looking right back but they are not seeing into your soul the same way you have memorized theirs. it's enough you tell yourself. it's enough. it's enough. but what if it's not? and what if you're wrong. what if they see you and all this time you have been too scared to ask what they're looking at.

when they don't know you're there

you want to see who they are at their core. your love smiles for you. they put on a brave face. they tell you off when you're out of line and they encourage you when you know your mistakes are piling up. they're the one who is always there. but there are moments you catch them unawares and that is when you watch them. you want to see the expression their face takes when they aren't being brave for you. you want to see how they smile when it isn't designed to lift your own burdens. you want to see what they say to everyone else. how they talk about you. how everyone else encourages them or if they let anyone be there at all. you want to see what is underneath it all so you can prove that's who you love. the parts of them they try to hide. the parts they think you don't already know and adore.

     To start: Genya’s goal was not to impress Sanemi during the battle against Kokushibo.

[heavy spoilers under the cut, but mostly for length as there’s a lot of screenshots]

     Impressing Sanemi was the last thing on Genya’s mind — his goal was to protect him. Even before Sanemi admitted he was trying to keep Genya away from the Slayers to keep him safe, Genya was only thinking of Sanemi’s safety. Even when Genya was yelling at Tanjiro about wanting to be a Hashira, his only goal was to be able to get close enough to his brother to apologize. Sure, there were times where he wondered if what he was doing would impress Sanemi, but that was never the intention.

     As for his concept of death... He’s been surrounded by death since he was a child. Their father died, his siblings and mother were killed, he watched trainees die in the Final Selection, he’s seen Slayers be cut down on missions. That’s not to say he’s become numb to it, though. He is far from a devout Buddhist, but he does believe in the prayers he recites, or at least deeply hopes that they’re true. Maybe his (and others’) suffering in this life means the next will be easier, that he’ll be able to reunite with his family and one day Sanemi where they can be happy together.

     Of course he’s scared, he doesn’t want to die, but in that situation he’s given no choice but to act or risk the lives of all of them. Genya doesn’t have the luxury of mulling over what could happen until it’s already happening.

     ᴠᴇʀsᴇ. genya. my hero academia.

          you can’t help what your heart has longed for.

     Genya is a First Year (or Second/Third Year, depending on the timeline) at Shiketsu Academy. He barely passed the Hero Course entrance exam, and only scraped by because of his elder brother, who teaches mathematics at the high school, pulling some strings to have him accepted. Overall his general education scores aren’t terrible, and he sits at number 13 in his class. His only drive to join the Hero Course was to live up to Sanemi’s expectations and previous role as a Pro Hero.

     His Quirk is called Oni and is a complete mutation from the wind-elemental Quirks the rest of his siblings and father are in possession of. The activation of his quirk causes his already large canines to grow longer, the whites of his eyes to become black and his nails to elongate and sharpen like knives. Genya also receives a massive boost in strength, stamina and healing factors when his Quirk is being used. He is not able to use his quirk in the sunlight, and though he can use it when there is cloud cover or inside sealed buildings, it is not as powerful if he used it at night. Were sun to touch his skin while using his Quirk it would cause him immense pain and burning until he deactivated it.

     Genya is not liked among his classmates. His Quick is extremely villainous, and since its manifestation at 4 years old he has often been told by classmates (and his father) that he won’t live up to anything good with his abilities. Only his mother and siblings have kept his head above water, but outside of home he has extreme anger issues that cause him to have disciplinary issues at school.

     Notes:

Genya doesn’t know what his Hero Name should be, so he chose “Genya” as a temporary name until he can think of something.

Contrary to his brother, Genya does wear the Shiketsu uniform correctly. Sanemi can at least be proud of him for that.

His Hero costume covers every inch of skin so he can still utilize his Quirk during the daytime, including a full-coverage helmet that looks closer to a muzzle with a mohawk. During night missions he does not wear the helmet. (One day Nia will draw this, today is not that day.)

While his quirk allows his hand-to-hand combat skills to improve considerably, he also carries two sawed off shotguns with quirk destabilizing rounds.

He did pass the Provisional License Exam. Sanemi said he wasn’t able to go (due to previously being banned from such events for his... colorful language) and Genya was extremely disappointed, but Sanemi managed to convince the higher ups to let him attend as long as he was on his best behavior.

     While it’s implied that Genya isn’t the only Demon Slayer to use a gun as a weapon, it is said to be very rare. Even so, you won’t find a better sharp shooter in the Corps. Shotguns are not made for accuracy but Genya rarely misses a shot. Most of the time on his missions he doesn’t need more than two shots to kill the demon, but even if he does he can reload incredibly fast and has a pouch resting at his back with his extra shells. The different kinds of shells are color coded for him to tell the difference immediately, but can pick them by feel if he needs a certain kind.

     A blurb about Kimetsu Academy: he’s the Shooting Club’s Ace and easily ranks Top Five in the country. Genya could easily be number one, but someone (Sanemi...) makes him focus more on his schoolwork. He likes to abuse the festival games with the rifles to win all the prizes for his siblings. Despite all this (being in the top five in shooting in the country and number 14 in school), he still worries about doing enough to impress his big brother.

the dog

whether it’s the way you bare your teeth when backed in a corner, your loyalty, or your tendency to act on instinct, your reoccurring theme is the dog. like mitski said “i get mean when im nervous, like a bad dog” or how halsey said “i won’t smile but i’ll show you my teeth” even when migos said “dance with my dogs in the night time” the essence of the dog runs through you. you’re tough and a quick draw on the outside, but if we got down to it we’d see you’re acting the only way you’ve ever known how. it doesn’t make you bad, survival is natural, your loyalty and determination is commendable. i don’t blame you for the way you act when your back is against a wall, but please remember to not bite the hand that feeds.

     ʜᴇᴀᴅᴄᴀɴᴏɴ. genya.

     Genya’s double barrel, hammerless shotgun (also known as a coach gun) is a Remington 1900. For ease of use and portability in the types of battles Genya is involved in, the comb was cut down to the grip and the barrels sawed off just past the forearm. While the gun itself was not made by the swordsmiths, the shells and the pellets inside the shotgun shells are. The shells are made entirely out of brass as to not waste ore, while the pellets are made out of the same material as Nichirin Blades.

     Genya carries a few types of shotgun shells to account for different scenarios. Most often he uses slugs, which are made with a single large pellet inside the shell. He is extremely accurate with these and can hit moving targets at quite a distance. Others are #00 buckshot (about seven smaller pellets) and #4 buckshot (about 27 even smaller pellets). The usage of these depends on the proximity of the demon and how much as well as the type of damage he wants to do (injury contained in a closer grouping compared to spread damage that might not hurt as badly).

     Because he has a double-barrel with a barrel selector he can have two different shell types in his gun and choose which one is shot at each time, but does need to reload often.

genya’s hair is much longer and thicker than it used to be, but the sides are still shaved short. it’s wild and untamable. sanemi tries and fails to keep it under control for him.

the whites of his eyes are now permanently pitch black and his purple irises have a faint glow in the dark. when using his blood demon art they become blood red and gold, like kokushibo’s. the mark also appears when he’s using  his art, but it doesn’t remain after.

he’s four inches taller, making him 6′3″, and bulkier. his fangs are much larger than they were before and impossible to chip or break.

he is hungry, all the time. his hunger is insatiable and it takes every moment of every day to will himself not to act on it. everyone smells like a gourmet meal in the strangest and most gut-wrenching way imaginable, especially his brother.

his death is reported officially among the slayers while sanemi figures out what to do with genya. kill him? train him? leave him out in the sun?

you are all grit and closed fists. you refuse to let anything in through the cracks of your armor. you would burn the world to protect those you love. the heart of a warrior burns in your chest. and it also weighs your shoulders down. what is the price for being so strong? what have you sacrificed to make yourself feel safe? when was the last time you let someone see your soul? when was the last time you let someone see you and not just the masks you hide behind? not everything must be a fight.

     Terribly. Awfully. In short: he doesn’t.

     You think Genya gets nervous around cute girls and pretty boys? Just wait until he has a real crush on one of them. His mouth opens before his brain can compute what he just said, knees weak, palms sweaty, mom’s spaghetti for real. Hands are clammy, his throat’s always dry and face always heated...

     He doesn’t think he deserves to have a crush, though, and will go out of his way to avoid them. They certainly don’t deserve to have someone as awful and terrible in their life, so... Leaving is something he tries very hard to do, but often isn’t able to for long. Genya doesn’t have many nice things in his life, and even if he’s easily embarrassed and flustered around his crush, they make him feel good.

     Genya is often very awkward when trying to converse with a crush, but over time it does get better, and while the embarrassment never truly goes away it becomes more manageable.

     He waffles horribly between wanting his crush to know and wanting to never tell them in his entire life. Genya knows its selfish to want to tell them, but also thinks if he were them, they would hate having him be someone with affection toward them... but it also gives them an opportunity to leave if they didn’t like it. On the other hand, existing next to them and being happy in this one-sided, secret romance is something he wonders if he can do forever.
