Are the ages in TFS weird age fuckery or just canon inconsistencies/retcons?

For simplicities sake I'm going to be assuming that all the Hawkins adults in TFS are going to be in high school, because it seems that that's what their intention:

Dubious side material sources/not enough information

Side material puts Hopper at 41/42 in s1, which fits his description in the s1e1 screenplay:

This does exactly line up with him being a senior in TFS- if he was supposedly born at oldest on August 1941, and is 42 in 1983.

I'm actually not sure how canon The Darkness on The Edge of Town is, but erring on thr safe side, i think its iffy.

Bob suffers similarly to Hopper in that side material says one thing (37 years old in s2- Stranger Things: Tomb of Ybwen), except theres not really any direct screenplay source (not that I know of) that contradicts it. There is the issue that bob would have to be 12 in 1959 for that to be true, but again in tfs time he is a senior. Although I wouldnt be suspicious about that considering, again, side source. In the show, Hopper talks about Bob as if he was at least in the same school and I dont think a 17 year old Hopper would bother himself with a 12 year old. Also its weird if Bob had a crush on Joyce considering that they werent even going to the same school.

Karen is described as being in her "late thirties"

We dont really have any information on what grade shes supposed to be in, so this could be accurate to TFS if shes supposed to be a sophomore/freshman.

Joyces age gets even trickier because the fandomwiki is pretty much wrong i think? I mean when you look up Joyce's age theres even entertainment articles that get it pretty much wrong- assuming that she is the same age as Hopper when she at least, intially, wasnt.

The s1e1 script has her in her late 30s in 1983. So when hopper was a senior, she was most likely a freshman/sophomore just going by this alone. I understand why people would think otherwise though, Hopper and her talk as if they were in the same class, but regardless its not totally weird for a 17/18 year old Hopper to know a 15 year old Joyce. However, TFS has her in her senior year.

Weirdly enough, out of all the Hawkins adults, Ted is the only one i could find given an exact canon age right off the bat in November 1983: 45

Ted would have already graduated in 1959 two years prior at 20/21 years old. If hes even a high school student in TFS, he was de-aged by at least 2-3 years. Or he could be a steve and just hangs around idk. Considering the highschool aspect and "class of 1959" is emphasized I dont really know what to think.

The Weekly Watcher has Henry down as 12 years old. In the show he looks and acts like a 12 year old, using his crayons to color which is not the way youll usually see a 15 year old behave (same observations have been made woth Alice who supposedly is 15). Which is interesting that henry has been aged up 2-3 for TFS where he is a freshman.

All in all, it seems that Hopper is the only one who's a correct age given the screenplay script and their tfs grade level. If Karen is meant to be a senior in TFS, then I would also consider her aged up but we don't know at this moment. But I would not be surprised if she was a freshman/sophomore.

SPN Did Something Pretty Amazing

One thing I have always liked about Supenatural, is that theyre willing to try things no other shows have done. Most of the time it works, sometimes it doesnt, but theyre not affraid to think outside the box. Things like having a cross-over with Scooby Doo, or episodes like The French Mistake, or Fan Fiction, are great, though theyre doable only because of the premise of the show. In the supernatural world, nothing is impossible. The heros die and come back a lot, old characters come back in various ways, in dreams, time travel, or even as the same character, and this is ok because again, in the supernatural world nothing is impossible. However, this newest amazing thing, at its core, didnt come to pass because of supenatural influence, but because of human actions, and viewer acceptance.  Two brothers and their Angel buddy, adopt an adult orphan son.  Think about that. What show has ever done such a thing? None. In similar cases, like 3 Men and a Baby, Full House, Two and a half Men, there is one defined Father, and then the other men are uncles or support for the one father. But not on SPN, all 3 have been defined as this kid’s father, even though none of them are biologically his father. Even before Luficer died, we saw this beginning. And even stranger still, there were always strong efforts to keep Jack away from his biological father, which is also not a common practice. When dealing with an older child, theres always a “let them chose” clause. But thats never really been the case on SPN, it was always “Keep Lucifer away from this kid” and justifiably so, I might add, but its still strange for TV isnt it? Yet, somehow this all worked. Now, this isnt a debate on who deserves to be Jacks main father, which would obviously be Sam but to just talk about how the show managed to make this happen and be completely accepted by the viewers. 

I work with several SPN fans, though Im the only one who wouldnt really be considered a casual viewer, meaning Im the only obssessed one LOL but the others arent involved in SPN SM on tumblr or twitter, they dont go to conventions and none of them are into shipping. (thats right, it seems most casual viewers dont ship the characters) yet all of them think its cool that Sam, Dean and Cas are Jack’s fathers, none of them think its creepy, incestuous, or gay. One did joke that it sounded like the synopsis of a very bad porno, (2 brothers, and their buddy take in a young adult orphan as their own) but then said that its a very cool concept.  What I think made it work, is everything thats gone down in the last 13 years. I dont care if youre a wincest shipper or not, but theres no closer relationship on the show than Sam and Dean. We know now they are “stuck” with each other, they wont be finding a significant other and building their own family, and even in the end, they’ll be together. Be it on Earth, in Heaven, Hell or the Empty. Also, they have no closer companion than Cas. Whether or not you like the character, canonically, Cas is their best friend that they love as a brother.  Since the show revolves around family dynamics, good ones and bad ones, we’ve seen Sam and Dean in every position. As brothers, sons, cousins, friends, and even as husbands breifly to Lisa and Amelia. we never really got to see them as fathers. The show could have remedied this by having one of their ex girlfriends show up with a kid “Surprize!!” but Im glad they didnt. This would automatically put one brother in the position of Dad, and the other as Uncle and Cas is just that buddy in the trench coat. The way it was done, put all 3 men in a fatherly position that developed over different time lines and circumstances.  Im going to try to break this down in an unbias manner. We can all feel free to disagree with the outcome, but its how the show itself unfolded this little highly unorthodox family. Cas was the one appointed to be Jack’s father. Kelly gave this duty to him when she decided to allow herself to die to let her son be born, and Cas accepted. So it looked as though Cas would be this boy’s father, but as it was, Cas was dead when Jack was born.  Sam came to the plate next. His relationship developed organically with Jack. Some may not have seen it coming, but Sam was determined long before Jack was born, to NOT kill him, but to try to let him be born without the worry that he would be evil. When it was apparent they couldnt take his grace and make him human, Sam knew it didnt mean Jack HAD to be evil. Sam took the role as mentor right away. Caring for Jack and having genuine compassion for him. We were given the hint Sam felt fatherly when they showed him reading a parenting book. (my god that was the cutest thing) So the writers flipped the script and gave Sam a head start in the father field. Also, with Sam being first, it added this layer of beauty, because Sam fell in paternal love with the son of his torturer. He wasnt enlisted, or pushed, it just happened, and thats beautiful. Dean came last, and as a story teller, I can see why they chose this route. It had been established since S1 that Dean is good with kids and naturally paternal. To have him be the first “father” would leave Cas and Sam on unlevel ground through lack of experience. For Dean to follow up second from Cas, would make it too shippy, and Sam would probably never make it out from under the  “uncle” title. and wouldnt we always wonder if Sam held a little resentment inside? Jack being the son of Lucifer for starters, and Dean taking him in as a son? Over the seasons, Sam has made it very clear, he never wants to be #2 in Dean’s eyes, and this could bring around some bad brother drama.  Dean starts off hating Jack. Indeed he was way too nasty to him in the beginning. Not even gonna debate that, but for Sam, Dean gives the kid a shot. He discovers that yes, Jack is a good kid and now Deans natural paternal side clicks on. And keep in mind he didnt try to step onSam and take over. Yes they showed Dean and Jack bonding more than they did Sam, but he didnt take over. He made sure taking Jack out was ok with Sam, so did Cas. They both respected that Sam has been Jacks primary care giver since day 1, and Sam isnt selfish or possessive (over anyone/anything else besides Dean) so Sam is happy to share Jack so he can have as much positive influence as he can.  So I give TPTB credit for coming up with this formula, my only complaint being that they didnt need to make Dean as hateful as he was, they could have just made him hessitant and standoffish at first and that would have been enough but it is what it is, and that part is over thank Chuck. Now, most of us knew the “3 dads” thing was coming because the cast talked about it a lot, but those of us who dont follow the cons and interviews, still were pleasently surprised that this came about. I havent heard anyone complain that its creepy, even though if you tell someone whos never seen the show “On my show, the 2 brothers and their friend adopted an 18 yr old kid” they’d look at you funny.  We complain about the writers all the time because they do screw up a lot, but I like to give them credit when I can. This is one of those situations. They made something that seems creepy on the outside, not only acceptable, but wonderful, simply by how it was written. I feel the same way about how they handled the return of Mary. It didnt pan out as well as it could have, and thats really a whole other meta, but Im glad they didnt take an easy route with her making her a zombie, or Super Mom and put her in a really human position of a mother meeting her adult sons for the first time, but Ill save that for another post :)

“The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” Movie Review

Back on Oscar nomination day in 2014, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 5 nominees for the Best Animated Feature of the year, and while that list included some crowd favorites like Big Hero 6 and more mature blockbusters like How to Train Your Dragon 2, the largest story that day wasn’t about any of the nominations, but one film that was left out of them. Most pundits and basically any critic who had seen the brilliantly creative, immensely funny, and more-emotionally-affecting-than-it-had-any-right-to-be Lego Movie had it pegged as not only a surefire nominee, but surefire winner of that award, and our jaws were left hanging on the floor at the lack of its mention during the announcement.

Despite that though, The Lego Movie went on to be an animated hit in the homes of people all across the world, two mildly-to-wildly successful spinoffs were launched to critical praise, and the studio immediately began plans for a sequel, with directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller not returning to the project as they were already booked to direct the Solo movie for Lucasfilm (which they were fired from, and then they moved on to Into the Spider-Verse and we all saw how that shook out). Thus, we have The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, which finds Emmet and the rest of the Lego people 5 years removed from the ending of that first film. Bricksburg has been ravaged and destroyed by the toys of DuPlon, and our heroes now live in Apocalypseburg. But when some of the residents are captured by a mysterious new character from the Sistar system, Emmet must embark on a daring new mission to rescue his friends and prove that he truly is The Special.

I’ve made it no small secret that I love The Lego Movie and thoroughly enjoyed Lego Batman. Lego Ninjago was…fine for me, but I mostly chalked that up to it being very much tied into the popular children’s Ninjago series, which I hadn’t watched. With the direct sequel to the film that birthed them all being not only released but also set 5 years after the original, I was curious to see if the team at Warner Bros. would be able to pull off the same magnificent feat they did in 2014, especially without the direction of Lord & Miller. And, for the most part, they almost do. Much like How to Train Your Dragon 3, I thought Lego Movie 2 was pretty good – just not as good as those initial outings. While there are certainly moments of levity and plenty of jokes from a script by Lord & Miller, something did feel missing in its direction and pacing.

For a start, there are too many musical numbers in this movie. That may seem like a strange thing to say about a Lego movie, especially as a critique to start with over something more significant, but that’s exactly my point. It doesn’t make much sense until one realizes that the studio fell so in love with what worked in the original that they just decided to do that again – but a lot more. Sure, the original film this one is following had an iconic original theme song, and even Lego Batman dabbled a bit in the introduction, but Lego movies are not musicals. Even Tiffany Haddish (who can’t sing very well, as we find out) gets no less than two numbers essentially all to herself, and basically all of them take place in the second act. This not only overcrowds the movie as a whole, but the second act is simply too repetitive. On a story level, that means there’s less time devoted to moving it along rather than just using the same jokes for a little while longer than necessary. They’re not bad jokes, and some of them are actually quite funny, but that zippiness that was so profound in the original film is missing here, giving way to a slightly more elementary-style humor, which follows, considering the director they found to replace Lord & Miller is Mike Mitchell, director of Trolls.

Not only is the second act overly repetitive and reliant on the same jokes, the newer characters added to the franchise aren’t exactly super memorable. None of them leave the lasting impact that a character like a Lego Batman did on the first movie, and there are basically zero interesting cameos throughout (save for one that actually does turn into a pretty hilarious real-world reference joke during the third act). General Mayhem seems to be the stand-in for the Batman character this time around, but apart from capturing the main heroes and transporting them to the Sistar system, there’s really not much else to her until the final couple of minutes and she doesn’t help craft other characters’ development like Batman did for Lucy. In addition to this, the villain this time around (whose name I’m not even going to attempt to type since I’m writing this at almost 2:00 in the morning) might be a more intimidating presence than Lord Business, but she’s not exactly as or more compelling.

One of the things that made Lord Business compelling was his tie-in to the real world that informed the surprise reveal at the end of the original Lego Movie, but while the added-on real-world element to this entry in the series presents a beautiful intent with its message, the actual Lego sections don’t handle telling that message quite as clearly as the first one did its central themes, which makes understanding the villain character in The Second Part more difficult than it honestly should be. Most of the supporting cast that are introduced in this movie aren’t very memorable, which doesn’t bode well for a franchise plan. Even though the Rex Dangervest storyline does go to some pretty ambitious places, he remains sort of a watered-down version of what he’s probably meant to be, and a lot of that is wrapped up in his very convoluted storyline.

Even the animation seems to have taken a bit of a hit; in the original movie, it was made fairly obvious that everything was made of legos, and that was a super cool and innovative way to create an animated movie, but when this sequel gets busy in the Sistar system or with characters not from the Lego world, it becomes difficult to get very invested in the animation, as it no longer carries that particularly unique look. If we’re going to continue to get Lego movies in this vein for a while, spending more time outside of the Lego world than in it is a bad idea. Legos are fun! Spending time in the Lego world should take up the majority of a movie in this franchise, not a minority.

There is a fair amount to like about this movie though; pretty much all the original characters carry the same weight and charm they have since 5 years ago, and the story and themes this movie presents in conjunction with the last one are actually very sweet. Some of the music is actually quite catchy as well, and The Lonely Island come back again with a stellar closing credits sequence. While the direction could have used quite a bit of work, the script by Lord & Miller does what it can to keep the franchise fresh and new, and if nothing else, most of the jokes are funny on first arrival.

It may sound like I’m knocking on this movie too much, but much like How to Train Your Dragon 3 (the superior film between these two, if you’re wondering), I did enjoy it – I just find it to be a bit disappointing as a sequel. That’s the tough part about being a film critic; if you’re reviewing a sequel, talking about the stuff that worked again isn’t nearly interesting as what doesn’t work as well this time around or what works better because that sticks out more, which can make it sound like that’s all you think of the film. With Lego Movie 2, that means telling you that while what worked last time mostly works again this time, there are a few spots that don’t work as well, and that’s okay, if a little bit of a bummer.

a/n: so this is something i’ve wanted to write for a while because it’s actually semi real life (not me ofc i cry someone i know) and i think their story is super cute. i’ve made some alternatives e.g. in real life it’s a church/school setting but because i’m posting on tumblr i decided to change it to a tutoring academy/school setting. but do let me know if you want a  version of the original setting :) also this ended up being really really long (mainly bc i know like a lot of exact details and wanted to include as much as i can) and im unsure if you guys like my writing style but im hoping to improve more over time as i hopefully write more bullet point styled scenarios :) 

so you’ve been going to this tutoring academy for a while and you go like once a week

you actually look forward to tutoring bc u were actually put in a really good class where everyone is friends and even have a group chat for memes 

anyways theres this guy called joshua who sits at the back

and hes like the most handsome guy in the class and all the girls /not so/ secretly fawn over him 

and like there are loads of rumours about him which claim that he opened his own lil company that makes apps and stuff which earns him $$$ at the age of 12 and how he like used a drone to capture the whole of his relatives wedding and how he like mastered 3 instruments and is a tech genius and on top of that really smart

which you obviously dont believe because thats not even human ??

anyways you do admit he’s sort of ok-above-average lookswise but u aint that shallow because he has a bad personality and you just hate him 

but you have evidence for hating him !! 

one time you accidentally walked into him verbally being mean to this other poor guy

and you’re like thinking o crap this is really awks i should hide

before u can do any of that tho he kinda makes a  beeline for you and takes the seat next to u cos he only knows u in the class haha 

and you’re literally looking the other way and u pretend u dont notice him take a seat next to u and you’re overly engaged in conversation with seungkwan

but seungkwan being the lovely and outgoing kid notices joshua and is like: hey!! are u new dont think ive seen u before

seungkwan is friends with everyone and everyone loves him back

joshua: uhh yeah i’m new 

and seungkwan is super excited and like welcome!! i’m seungkwan and he sticks his hand out and is like and ur name is?

joshua is like i’m joshua 

and seungkwan is like oh btw this is y/n 

and it gets super awks cos u guys know of each others existence but maybe have talked like once when he had to pass u a bag of chips at tutor and u were like thank u 

and seungkwan senses something and eyes you guys back and forth 

after 837491 decades josh breaks the silence and is like hello y/n in a really meek voice

and you awkwardly smile and say hi 

luckily class starts and the teacher introduces joshua to the class and asks him what instruments he plays 

and the rumours prove to be true - he plays 3 instruments piano guitar and flute the real life guy cant play piano lmao

teacher asks him to demonstrate with the instrument hes most confident in 

and so he starts playing the guitar to the tune of fireflies by owl city and also shyly starts singing to the lyrics check out how cute joshua is playing fireflies on his guitar here IM sOFTTT

and everyone is in awe at how good he is 

and you lowkey feel your heart rate increase bc boi you love guys that play guitar and sing well 

the way he sings is very gentle and sweet and the way he strums the guitar with his long fingers and how his eyes are full of gentle passion just makes you sWOOON

and somehow the way he sings with his emotions poured in just really touches your heart 

after his performance everyone starts clapping and some girls even stand up and cheer lmao 

he gets back to his seat and seungkwan gives him two thumbs up and says: bro are you kimbap kidding you were great you really should play guitar for me next time i sing

thanks says joshua bashfully and he kinda looks over to you with a hopeful look as if hoping you’d say something too

so you’re quickly like: yeah you were really good :)

anyways the teacher shushes everyone and is like: let me announce your first assignment! it’ll be in groups of 4 and it’ll be a cover of a pop song of your choice which you’d have to arrange yourselves. if you need help, you are welcome to ask other classmates that have experience in arranging or to ask me

whenver its group work you and seungkwan always join woozi

woozi comes over to you guys 

and then both woozi and seungkwan are like to joshua: wanna join our group pls

and so joshua joins your group 

and everyone else in class is jealous lmao because u 4 are definitely the top group with all the musical geniuses 

ur kinda happy that joshua joined ur group bc he’s really good at guitar 

and so u guys decide that u will do keyboard, joshua on guitar, woozi on drums and seungkwan on vocals 

and y’all learn that joshua knows how to hack into arranging music programs for free 

and woozi is like: WHAT MY LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE????

also shows u guys that infamous app you made and he has some secret code so u guys can download it for free instead of buying it for $15

ur group actually gets along really well and has good dynamics bc everyone has great ideas on what songs to do and how to do it and stuff 

and its actually really fun with them even though you’re still awkward around joshua for no reason and he’s kinda shy too lmao

joshua suggests doing “breakeven” by the script 

and u have a fangirl moment bc u love the script and everyone agrees that its a great song choice :)

anyways one day you guys decide to meet after school to practice and  to refine the arranged piece which joshua and woozi did 

BUT FOR SOME ODD REASON seungkwan can’t make it anymore bc he has to babysit his little brothers and woozi has a student council meeting 

so its just you and joshua

and you two have never been like alone before like during group practice you guys make small conversation when the other two there and its all good and sweet but this was gonna be AWKWARD 

anyways so you try to initiate conversation by asking how he’s finding the new school 

and he just gives a short answer: pretty ok 

and it becomes you two just asking each simple questions and giving short replies

but its only when you he asks you how you started getting into music that the conversation really starts going somewhere because your eyes light up while talking about music and so does hie eyes

and you guys talk about how classical music is so under-appreciated these days and how mozart is a music legend and just the beauty of music etc. etc.

and in no time its getting really dark and you both have to head home

you guys walk to the bus stop and he gets on your bus 

and you’re like: hey i don’t think i’ve seen you catch this bus before?

joshua: yeah, but this bus also takes me home there are two buses that stop near my home!

you: oh ok cool 

from that day on you and joshua actually got super close due to both your love for music

you guys always practiced together with seungkwan and woozi even when the group performance was over (and your group topped and got A+!!!!!!!!)

you also encouraged joshua to join the school band club which seungkwan and woozi were also part of

you literally baited him in because the school band club was going on tour to europe next year to get some sick masterclass training and perform at famous places in austria 

so he basically joined so he could go to europe ;)))))) HEHEH

and even though you guys have different friend groups you guys sat near each other in the classes you shared, went to band club every monday morning at like 7am and also sometimes grabbed food together before tutoring 

this was when literally EVERYONE at tutoring and school started shipping u two together and you’d get embarrassed and joshua wouldn’t really say much either 

and to be honest deep in your heart you thought joshua was the ideal boyfriend but you had a rule where you weren’t gonna date in high school bc you wanted to focus on studies and you thought that high school relationships dont last and that they were pointless

and you’ve never really had a crush before so you’re super clueless lmao 

one time students in ur music class volunteered to busk on the streets and you thought it’ll be fine so u and ur squad (josh, seungkwan and woozi) all signed up for it ^^ 

BUT when the day came around, woozi had a really bad fever and couldn’t get out of bed and seungkwan’s mum had to show up to work so seungkwan had to babysit his little brothers again

and so the busking was at school ..,,, except when u got to school the gates were locked AND it literally started pouring 

you regretted not agreeing to your mum driving u bc u were a good daughter and didn’t want to bother her when it was her birthday 

you also regretted not bringing an umbrella with u as u didn't want to miss ur bus 

and so there you were soaking wet in the rain on a saturday morning not pleasant 

you didn't know what to do and none of your gal friends were busking and u didn't want to bother them so you ended up calling joshua and he picked up in 2 rings 

joshua: hey whats up?

you: sorry to ask of this but are you almost at school? because the gates are locked

joshua: oh really? i’ll be there in like 1 minute

you: ok see you soon

and in exactly one minute a car appeared and joshua hopped out with an umbrella

and he had the most concerned expression when he saw u soaking wet without an umbrella

joshua: omg y/n are you stupid why dont you have an umbrella

you just sighed as he held the umbrella above both ur heads 

joshua: why don’t we go inside my mums car before we decide what to do i dont want you getting sick :( 

you guys headed to his mums car and he just held the umbrella above both your heads and you noticed that it covered more of you than him

he could have easily put his arm around u so he wouldn’t get wet at all 

but this was one thing you came to notice and really admire about joshua

that he’s such a respectful gentleman 

whenever you befriended a guy you’d low key make it clear that you weren’t interested and just jokingly friend zone them 

he never made you uncomfortable with his actions or words and always 100% respected you and kept his boundaries 

anyways soon u guys found out that you had to enter the school from the back gates instead of the front  gates and the rain slowly came to a stop

anyways the day went well and you guys had a lot of fun busking together and even got ice cream together afterwards :)) 

next year rolls around and you guys have only maths and music classes together but still hang at tutoring

its  valentines day and tbh u never expect much because you’ve never received a red rose you’ve only gotten those  yellow friendship roses 

but during roll call the person giving out roses is like: y/n a red rose for you!!!! and you’re so SO happy bc who could be this secret admirer??

the rose also came with a super lame pick up line “did it hurt when you fell from heaven?”

anyways europe FINALLy  rolls around and heck u are keen to visit mozart’s house

when the whole band club arrives in europe every day is busy busy with music workshops and such and its only 5 days in where the teachers who came on the trip give the students like 3 hours of free time

teacher: ok u guys must be in a pair at least so u don’t get lost!!

however, all ur friends only want to go shopping while u wanted to take a walk and admire the scenery of europe 

but then someone taps you on the shoulder and u turn around and its joshua 

joshua: hey what were you planning to do during the free time?

you: i wanted to look around and see the architecture and the scenery and stuff but everyone wants to go shopping :( 

joshua: oh really! thats so good because me too i’d rather take a walk around here rather than go shopping; all my friends wanted to shop too

so you and joshua walk around the land of austria and admire the beautiful architecture and takes pictures of the scenery and visit all the pretty churches

so that night dinner is also free time so students can choose where they wanna go to eat and seungkwan joins you guys and you guys all end up in a really fancy and aesthetic restaurant 

where the lighting is dim, there are lit candles and roses hung around and its literally a beautiful restaurant

you’re super oblivious but seungkwan is like glaring at joshua the whole time and kicking him under the table 

while they’re having a staring contest you’re just chatting away about how much of a great time you’re having and how this is the first time in your life you’ve been inside such a nice restaurant and  chugging on your food 

after the meal you take a toilet break and little do you know while you’re doing so seungkwan is giving mediating lessons to joshua so he can calm down 

and by the time you get back seungkwan is gone

you: oh where did seungkwan go?

joshua: oh he just went to chat with woozi

you take a seat and is like: so do u reckon we should head now?

and then joshua is like: actually there’s something i really want to say to you

and you just look at him super confused bc did something bad happen?? and you’re just super clueless and oblivious to his feelings towards you

bc the reason why ppl even ship u guys in the first place is because everyone can see how the way he stares at you, cares for you, catches your bus thats a 15min walk to his home when there’s one that stops directly in front of his home, how he always helps you with work, how he always encourages you to not give up whenever you’re having a hard time 

and then joshua is like: y/n you probably have an idea already but i really like you, i like you a lot. i’ve liked you since we got ditched by seungkwan and woozi in music class and we ended up talking about music and had a proper conversation. also the rose for valentines day this year, that was me too

and no matter what your family and friends said you wouldn’t listen but when joshua advised you mind u with the exact same things nayoung said you somehow trusted his words and he was like your rock at times and always willing to listen to u and encourage u

you sighed and decided to sleep so u wouldn’t have to think about it for now and deal with it tomorrow

anyways right after breakfast and before boarding the bus u finally see joshua by himself because seungkwan had gone to the loo 

and you slowly approach joshua taking deep breaths because u were about to face the most awkward conversation of ur life 

but before u actually reached joshua he saw u coming and awkwardly looked away as he rubbed the back of his  neck

but u had to do this nayoung was right what if u regretted this and took this to ur grave he was the one guy u were so comfortable around and u could be yourself and he was so supportive and not to mention cute and smart too

So all the characters are sort of different, depending on what happened in their version of the timeline, such as: Johnny Ghost and Gregory do not share a body, only him and Casket. Johnny Toast never cured from being a werewolf, but can now control when he turns, besides full moons. also not a vampire. etc. etc. But you see, theres a small problem I cant write half of the Venturian groups characters. and i try to keep them IC, but tend to have different things for them as well, unless they are in a flashback or flashforward. and the timeline Cassie exsists in, takes place only a year after the Puppet arc. and Cassie exsists in the main timeline of the AU. But the AU automatically ages all the characters down as well..So in order to help with you understanding everything going on, lets figure out whats going on there with current takes on personality and crap. Though they can be changed in any way you'd like. Acachallas Billy Acachalla has left his family, and currently stays off the grid with Maddie Friend, while occasionally visited by Sally and Jennifer. He faked his permanent death in order to escape, and keeps trying to convince Sally to do it, and get Sue to do it. Hes alot smarter then in the videos, and tends to act more like an adult then a five year old, unless around Sally, then he just drops it and goes to his video act. (currently has 15 lives left to give and to use.) [17] Sally Acachallas demon side comes out more then just when she doesnt get waffles, and shes broken up with Slenderman. Sally stays peaceful, but isnt as jumpy as normal, her obsession for waffles has also faded quite a bit, due to an incident at the waffle dimension. (currently has 3 lives left) [15] Gertrude Acachalla doesnt care about her children as much, more paying attention to things outside. She stopped caring about the children when they accidentally killed Papa and Spencer, she had a incident where she got mad and made them both lose one life, before locking them in their room. Which resulted in Billy faking his death to escape. Shes more rude and aggresive towards people, and refuses to talk to anyone who tries to help her or bring her back to sanity for her remaining children, often killing them repeatedly until they are out of lives. (Currently has 2 lives left.) [24] Sue Acachalla is a trans female with the mask sewed onto her face due to previous parents. Shes calm and sticks up for her sister, and tends to be able to calm down demon Sally, though sometimes she might get killed by her. Sue spends alot of her time braiding barbie's hairs and sleeping, or talking to Sally. As shes not allowed to leave the house because she looks like a murderer or Burglar. She gets bored alot more often and will go into fits of rage when shes extremely bored, this has resulted in the closet being bombed, twice. (Currently has 2 lives left) [17] Extra Maddie Friend is a crazy and hyperactive girl. She chases people she doesnt like or has been hired to kill around, and currently works at a hospital, and for Jennifer Ghost + Billy Acachalla, as Billy signs her shirts and Jennifer gives her extra pay so she'll keep their secret, and do stuff for them if something needs to be done. Shes kind and outgoing, but carries around a crowbar and/or a bucket of popcorn occasionally, making her seem a little unapproachable (currently has 5 lives left left) [17] PIE Johnny Ghost is a little bit more depressed then usual, and shows off his highly emotional side more, especially when its his family or his best friend in danger, he argues with people alot more and tends to hide in his room afterwards. Hes still extremely arrogant and sassy mind you, but he tries not to let it show as much. //He also has freckles but whatever// (Currently has 1 life left) [26] Johnny Toast is the most loyal fido you'll ever see. Hes calm and collected, but will do anything for his boyfriend boss. Hes a werewolf that has a bit of control over his power, though is still helpless to the full moon. Hes kind and tends to act smart, or talk for Ghost when hes upset or whatever. Hes still shy and stuttery whenever Ghost isnt around though. Hes very protective of everyone in his team, one one of the most supportive people you'd meet. probably has to stop Ghost from murdering Spooker and Colon (currently has 1 life left) [28] Fred "Spooker" Soup is a pure and happy and perfectly chubby boy. Hes kind and bouncy, tending to ignore anything bad going on around him, unless hes screaming and running from a powerful ghost. Hes welcoming to most people, even people that are held captive, making him a good candidate to be a guard if the captives dont know whats going on. He tends to be very protective towards Colon and the girls, as he sees Colon as a amateur, and is assigned to protect the girls with his life. Though he fails at it alot. (Currently has 1 life left) [22] Chris "Colon" Ghostie is a precious politic hating bean. He tends to yell about random stuff, and doesnt talk to people very often. sometimes he wont even be at work because hes doing his side job as an uber driver. Hes completely pure, and is the only one in the team who has not yet commited Man slaughter. So hes the most innocent one he did nothing wrong. (currently has 3 lives left) [24] Jennifer Ghost {One of my characters } Jennifer is an arrogant, bossy, and protective girl, as like her brother. She tends to boss her friends around, and if in a panic, wont hesitate to go boss-mode on the boys.  Shes rude and sassy, and isnt afraid to slap someone if shes not getting what she wants. Shes really only kind to Jenna Toast and Billy Acachalla. Occasionally her brother if he needs someone to comfort him and Johnathon isnt around. oh yea she cant read and is extremely terrified of water. (Currently has 1 life left) [15] Jenna Toast {One of my characters } Jennas the gay cousin/friend everyone haves, but no one wants. Shes flirty, and smooth with her words when she wants to convince someone to do something. Shes never afraid to shoot someone, even someone she cares about. She tries to make friends with anyone she meets, but if they're close to one of her best friends? Consider them dead. She will kill anyone who gets in the way of her and her trio of girls. Jennifer knows this, so never lets Jenna meet anyone she cares about..though Cassie has issues. She will happily put a bullet in anything or anyone she finds paranormal, excluding the caskets and her brother. (Currently has 1 life left.) [17] Cassie Anderson {One of EvilsNightmare 's characters } im going off what i know about her pls help me frien Cassie is a character the 'Jennys' picked up, pretty much off of the side of the road. She knows quite a bit about ghosts, to the girl's surprises. Shes one of the 'female trio' of PIE, and sticks with Jenna and Jennifer most of, if not all of the time. Shes fun to be around, besides the fact she can be brutally honest. She currently has a ghost named 'Zayne' haunting her. my prevailing thought about meat, which will probably sustain throughout candy and probably the rest of this week if not my life, is that john egbert died and none of his friends (beyond terezi) know about it. none of them know. he fucking died and his last words were a love confession to a girl who he doesnt even really know. john egbert died. he is probably not coming back and, even if there was a ‘’chance’’, he has been summarily dismissed from the narrative. 

john egbert died trying to be a hero even after we were told he wasnt special and he is dead!! he died and he didnt get to reconnect with the betas or the alphas even, didnt really work through any of his depression. he fucked terezi (suRe?) and tried to tell her loved her and fucking died. i am, literally, never going to be over it. 

hgshss aside from that i actually liked the ending more than I thought? The middle was extremely touch and go for me--there were moments I liked and then something would happen that I’d get upset about and the cycle continued-- but I thought the last few chapters were interesting and genuinely enjoyable. basically i love kanaya maryam so fucking much and i was so glad to see her be herself again ashjsj i lovE her.

Seeing the characters get motivated to work together and stop Dirk was a surprisingly optimistic conclusion for an ending that was clearly obsessed with misery. I didn’t expect that kind of ‘call to action’ that occurred, but I was glad to see it. Despite that and despite the post-scripts, I don’t think theres going to be anything after this. Alt-Calliopes last words in meat made it seem, to me, that any kind of additional work was to fall into the reader’s hands, in fanwork or w/e. or, at least, I supremely doubt hussie will be involved in anything going forward. there are still things left open, and new questions wrt dirk and the bots and the new session, but I feel like this was all meant to stir up investment in hs as a property, as a place to think about and create work for and pay attention to (and buy friendsims), but not as a piece of ongoing media. we have been compelled to think about homestuck for a while longer, but I’m not sure we will be reading new content again--or at least not for a while. (maybe candy will change my mind, though? so many ppl seem SO sure that there will be more and I dont know why besides wishful thinking)

not even sure if id really want more, unless it was like a 10 chap sequence about a secret middle route where john doesnt die, vrisrezi 4 real, and a normal dirk receives therapy and like chains ultidirk to the ocean floor or something. all the betas hang out regularly, but specifically rose and jade have one fucking conversation at least. 

(actually the concept of a like theatre of coolty-esque all-dirk showdown is. good. ultidirk/teen dirk/hal/brain ghost try to out-monologue each other and then fight)

obviously obviously obviously I still have big issues with stuff. i hate that jakes main character trait is being sexualised and manipulated and the narrative still just makes him out to be the fucking dumbest shallowest idiot. why cant jake get like.....any depth at all....why cant there be an acknowledgment of how fully traumatized he must be at this point?? also i cant get behind johnrezi, tbh, tho i think theyre written well. beyond my full devotion to scourge sisters, they didn’t even talk that much, and most of their convo was tz dictating her plan to john to get the love of her live back. it isnt like they hung out all that often???? before that, their most notable interaction was when terezi tricked john into dying for a joke. why is john obsessed with these two girls he barely spoke to, who are both in love with other people?? (might be worth thinking about further) i dont like that 99% of the time roxys transness was brought up only to have someone near by be a fucking dick about it. Jane: become fascist is still really bizarre to me. i still think some of the HEAVY focus on meta commentary is a bit of a drag. 

overall i think this whole ‘exploration of the ugly bad awful shit’ was certainly that. we got meat, we got high plot/action/drama. bad things happened and everyone was miserable and disconnected and awful to each other. narrative relevance through trauma/pain/violence. I really thought it was going to end with some kind of tpk, so this kind of vaguely optimistic pseudo-cliffhanger was better than I really expected it to be.
