Wholesome Sonic and Tails Wednesday Fanfic cause why not?
The fic is under the read now. Yippee!
Story 1:
It was a normal day. Sonic was running around like normal to either find a safe place to rest that night or to track down Robotnik. He couldn’t remember. But what he does remember is what he found that day.
He heard what sounded like shouting so he went to investigate. He wasn’t going to leave some poor soul who may be in trouble. As he approached the shouting he went over what it could be in his head. An argument he shouldn’t barge into, someone being attacked by badniks, or perhaps it was just someone messing around.
What was actually going on shocked him though. A fox that looked no more than at least four years old curled up in on himself as two older kids looked down on him with sinister grins.
“C’mon kid! Let us see them and we’ll leave you alone!”
“No! You’re just gonna pull on them!”
“Well, maybe we wouldn’t pull on them if you weren’t a freak of nature!”
The next thing Sonic knew, the two older kids forcefully dragged the younger kid out of their corner revealing that the fox had two tails instead of one. One of the older kids grabbed onto one of the tails and yanked it causing the poor kid to let out a yelp.
“Oh, stop complaining! Who knows? Maybe if we pull hard enough we’ll be able to take it off!”
“Stop it! It hurts!”
Sonic grit his teeth as he ran out of the bushes, ramming himself straight into the kid who was holding the tail. He released his grip and fell to the ground, the wind clearly knocked out of him.
“Hey! Who in the world are-”
The other one didn’t get to finish their sentence before being met with a foot between their legs, immediately causing them to drop to the ground. Sonic let out a huff before turning to the fox they were bullying.
Said fox was looking at the hedgehog as if he hung the stars in the sky.
“You…Who are you?”
Sonic opened his mouth to reply but a loud boom nearby cut him off. In the distance he could see smoke rising. Sonic clicked his tongue. It was most likely Robotnik causing trouble again as always. He sighed and looked back at the fox and gave him a two finger salute. He doesn’t have time to talk right now, not while more people and flickies could be in danger.
“Hey, wait!”
The fox cried out but Sonic didn’t have the time to listen. He sprinted off towards the smoke with no hesitation. He’ll come back when he deals with Robotnik to check if the kid is okay. Right now, stopping the doctor from his plans takes priority.
It didn’t take long for him to make it there. Robotnik was clearing out the area, knocking down trees while the nearby wildlife tried to run away. Robotnik wasn’t going to let easy prey go that easily though. Using the robots who weren’t busy knocking down trees, he captured them and had three nearby capsules to put them in.
Sonic ran into the field and began taking out the nearby robots, saving any of the flickies that he could. This quickly got the doctors attention.
“You again! You little pest! You don’t know when to quit, do you? Doesn’t matter! I came prepared!”
The doctor pressed a button in his ship which made all the robots stop what they were doing and charge at him. This wasn’t that big of a problem to Sonic. He dodged and attacked the robots with ease.
What he missed though was that one of the robots was carefully watching him before slowly making their way forward. Sonic was looking around seeing that there weren't that many bots left before being grabbed from behind.
He struggled to break out of the badniks hold while Robotnik simply laughed at him.
“I told you that you were a fool for trying to stop me! Maybe if you paid a bit more attention you would have been able to beat me, but that is your flaw. You don’t pay attention to anything and now you have paid the pri-”
A tree-branch was thrown right at the doctor’s head before he could finish his sentence. Both the doctor and the hedgehog were surprised to see the two-tail fox staring, yet shaking, at the doctor.
“Y-You put them down right now you big meanie!”
“Huh? Who are you? Oh well, that doesn’t matter. I still have enough men to capture you as well.”
The doctor’s badniks immediately charged the fox but the fox was quicker than one expected, quickly moving out of the way and throwing another stick at Robotnik's head.
“Gah! Stop throwing sticks at me, you pest!”
“Not till you put them down!”
“Never!”
Sonic took this opportunity to continue squirming in the badniks grasp. Luckily for Sonic, the badnik was too busy watching the fox to focus on him.
He broke out and fell to the ground, getting the badniks' attention back to him. Sonic didn’t give the robot a chance, immediately dashing into him as hard as he could and shattering the robot to pieces which gained Robotnik's attention.
“No! No! I was so close- gah!”
Another stick whacked him in the head as Sonic immediately went to take down the other badniks. One by one they fell as the fox threw more sticks at the doctor.
“Fine! You pests win this time but next time you won’t be so lucky! Mark my words, Sonic! I’ll be back!”
With those words, Robotnik retreated. His ship flew away as Sonic looked towards the young fox who helped him.
“Ah, uh, sorry for following you but I really wanted to thank you for earlier and-”
The fox began to mumble quietly for Sonic to hear but the message surely came across to the hedgehog. He smiled and patted the fox on the head with a confident grin. The fox immediately stopped talking as his eyes lit up and his tails began spinning in excitement.
“O-Oh! Uh, thanks. Sorry for mumbling. You’re really cool and really, really fast and, uh, hold on a moment. I’m really bad with words, um….”
The fox was back to mumbling but Sonic didn’t mind. He let the kid mumble for a bit with a patient smile before the fox suddenly patted his cheeks rapidly before turning to Sonic with a determined look.
“Alright! Proper sentence time! My name is Miles Prower and I wanted to t-thank you for your help back when I was, uh, cornered. I…I know this is going to be a weird request but do you mind if I…keep following you around? Please….”
Sonic gave a confused look to the fox. Why would he want to follow him around? Unless, the kid didn’t want to be alone. Sonic likes being alone though…though some company can’t be that bad right? Then again, Sonic travels a lot to dangerous areas. Chasing Robtonik isn’t exactly safe as well. Though, what if Robotnik comes after Miles anyway for throwing sticks at him? He doesn’t want the fox to be alone if that happens.
Yeah…Yeah, he can watch him? How hard could it be?
Sonic proudly ginned at the fox before giving him a thumbs-up. Mile’s eyes immediately lit up and his tails spun so fast, Sonic could swear the kid was beginning to hover over the ground.
Oh, wait. He was hovering.
…How did that work?
Miles also seemed to notice his feet were no longer on the ground because his tails stopped spinning almost immediately.
“Ah, sorry about that! I didn’t mean to-”
“It’scool.”
Sonic spoke faster than his brain could think, which is a problem since he never learned how to properly speak.
“Huh? What?”
“Mmnice.”
The fox proceeded to look even more confused. Sonic nervously tapped his foot. Did he say something wrong? Doesn’t that mean cool? He hopes it does. He doesn’t want to be mean to his new friend.
“...You think my tails are cool?”
Sonic nodded, happy his point came across the way he wanted it to.
The fox’s tails began to spin again as Mile nervously smiled.
“Y-You really think so? Like, you’re not kidding at all?”
Sonic nodded again. Why would he be joking? They were cool! He mentally pictured himself with two tails, being able to ram himself into Robotnik's stupid floating machine thing easier.
“...Thanks. I have never been told that before. Most people just call me a freak when they see them….”
Sonic remembered the two bullies who he beat up with a scowl on his face. How dare they! Just because someone looks a little different doesn’t mean they deserve to get bullied about it! If he sees them again he won’t hesitate to fight them again.
Miles, unaware of the hedgehog’s violent thoughts, looked at the sky with worry.
“It’s going to be dark soon. We should, uh, find a place to sleep.”
Sonic snapped out of his thoughts. The fox was right! They should probably go find somewhere safe. He held up a finger to Miles before running up a nearby tree. At the top, he looked over the forest. He doesn’t know what he expected but to the surprise of no one it was just more trees.
However, his eyes caught onto a giant tree. Bigger than the one he was currently on. That should be enough to provide shelter for the both of them!
He grinned as he ran back down the tree and held out his hand to a very shocked and surprised Miles.
“Uh, where are we going?” He asked as he took Sonic’s hand.
Sonic bit his lip, “Sssafety.”
“Safety? Wh-”
Miles didn’t get to finish his sentence before Sonic began running in the direction he saw the tree. If he were a normal person it probably would have taken a while to get there but for Sonic, it was only a minute. He paused the moment they got there before turning to face Miles who looked really, really nauseous.
Uh oh, did he mess up? Gah! He forgot normal people probably couldn’t handle his speed!
Miles hunched over, raising his hand towards Sonic and used his other hand to cover his mouth as he took in deep breaths.
“I-I’m good!”
Miles suddenly spoke and Sonic let out a sigh of relief.
“Just warn me next time, alright?”
Sonic nodded as he nervously rubbed the back of his head.
The tree was, once again, decently sized and Sonic grinned when he looked at the spacious hole at the bottom of the tree. The size was perfect for both Sonic and Miles to slide into. One look inside also said that it was empty.
Sonic crawled in and patted the space next to him as Miles nervously eyed it. Slowly, the fox crawled inside and was shocked at how much room there was.
“Wow, this is…weird. No offense or anything! Honest!”
Sonic simply shrugged. He didn’t care for shelter. It wasn’t like it was his house or anything.
“You know, I never slept inside a tree before. I slept on the branches though. Most of the other kids can’t get me up there.”
Sonic nodded. If Miles life is what he thinks it is then the trees were definitely the foxes friend. The trees were also his friends as well so he understands the fox completely.
Miles yawned and Sonic returned it. They both had a long day and some rest could benefit them both.
“Uh, what’s your name?” Miles suddenly asked, turning towards the hedgehog.
Sonic tried to remember how Robotnik pronounced it.
“Smonic.”
“Smonic?”
“Sssonic. Sonic. M’thats it.”
“...Sonic is a cool name. Wish mine was that cool. I mean, it makes sense since you run really fast.”
Sonic was too tired to try to say something back. Speaking sucked. Maybe Robotnik could be useful for once and make a metal robot thing that could read minds or something. Eh, if he did it would probably be used for malicious purposes.
“All the other kids called me Tails for obvious reasons as well. Does Tails sound like a good name? I mean, it would match your name since Sonic is an obvious name for you since you run fast.”
Miles clicked his tongue before continuing.
“I think that by calling me Tails they were trying to insult me. It isn’t a very good insult though. It would be like calling you blue. That isn’t an insult, that's an observation. It’s stupid!...You can call me Tails, if you want. I mean Miles sorta fits with you as well….”
“M’kay Mails…”
Sonic spoke up, causing the poor fox to jump out of his skin.
“Mails? That’s nowhere near my name! How did you get-? Oh, wait you combined Tails and Miles! It doesn’t sound that good though, personally I-”
He tried to keep up with the fox’s rambling but his eyes shut and that was it. He was out like a light. It wasn’t till five minutes later of Tail’s rambling to the air did he finally hear Sonic’s nearby snores. Tails blinked a bit in surprise before chuckling to himself.
“Oops. Didn’t mean to tire him…why didn’t he stop me from rambling though? Almost everyone does….”
Tails let out a hum before he realized just how heavy his eyes were.
“Mmm guess I can ask him tomorrow…night, Sonic.”
With that, Tails quickly went to sleep.
