To anyone who thinks that Frodo was useless and did absolutely nothing, I want you to know you are wrong.

First, with what I think are the very obvious things, he was carrying THE weapon of mass destruction, literally “the one ring to rule them all”, the ring that Sauron poured all his malice in. He managed to carry it all that way with never giving into its temptation fully, until he was literally in the place where it’s power was strongest. Anyone, literally anyone would succumb to it there.

And let’s not forget how the ring was poisoning Frodo’s mind all throughout the journey. He was facing the constant, gnawing temptation from the ring to put it on and give in. He was poisoned by the Nazgûl’s blade, from every side of him he was getting attacked in some way.

Now, maybe in this aspect I could be reading into it too much or projecting too much, but I know how absolutely helpless and scary to feel like you’re being watched. Without my meds, I will almost constantly feel watched by every direction, and in Frodo’s case, he literally is being watched. The mental strain that that alone can put on a person is immense and can make them almost catatonic. I know it has for me many times. Think about just how much the ring affected Frodo mentally, four years after it all he left middle earth, and more importantly the shire—aka the place he could hardly bear to leave in the beginning.

Anyway yeah sorry if this doesn’t make sense..

Okay, so I recently read The Imperial Uncle (Huang Shu) by Da Feng Gua Guo from Peach Flower House and I really loved it??? It's first person pov, mlm, about the Emperor's uncle Jing Chengjun, who is mistrusted by everyone simply because of who his parents were and his position, and so he's basically given up on trying to convince people that he's actually a nice, decent person without ulterior motives. He's super trapped by his position, and there's so much he can't say and do, and he's also a hopeless romantic, like, from his own mouth all he really wants is to sleep beside and wake up next to someone who actually gives a shit about him, and even that is basically out of reach in his life. Like, the book starts with his wife (who he has never once had sex with) storming into a meeting he's having and announcing he's a cuckold and she's pregnant.

But also, this poor bastard really thinks he knows what's going on and his very smart. Very unreliable narrator. He's actually kinda a hilarious, impulsive himbo. But the TL:DR is that his loneliness and isolation and the extent to which he's politically trapped routinely lead him to make absolutely terrible decisions.

E. Danglar's translation is absolutely gorgeous, too, and... idk, if you love political plots, melodramatic idiot main characters, a dose of pining, and a slow burn that eventually pays off, come take a look??? (some people think it's a love triangle??? idk, I never really got that vibe, I never felt it was really in doubt which of the two potential dudes he'd end up with, but maybe I only feel that way because I got it right, lmao).

Anyway, I can't stop thinking about how these two idiots end up finally finding each other and getting together, and I have an entire AU in my head (a modern corporate one) and part of another (canon divergent from like a decade before the book starts), and I just want people to love this book as much as I did and scream with me about it.

A Strain sends Saru back in time. Back into the past of like maybe his 12 year old body. Maybe just before meeting Yata. He remembers everything though that is to come... but now has to deal with seeing Niki again.

Would you say he would far enough to possibly stab Niki if the man came in and began his usual taunts? Would that alter the future at all? Change things?

Would he have his powers though? Imagine Fushimi wanting to stab Niki and then realizing that he’s just back to being a weak kid and Niki can easily overpower him, and hating that even after all this time there’s nothing he can do against that person. Like imagine he gets hit by a Strain and wakes up in his bed at his old house. I imagine he just freezes the moment he opens his eyes as he realizes where he is, all the old memories rushing back and wondering if he’s been like trapped in a terrible memory or something. Then he notices that he’s wearing pajamas and his hair is back to the old style. He gets up and finds a mirror and checks his PDA, realizing that he’s in the past and his body looks like he’s a middle schooler again. Imagine that despite himself his first thought is that he needs to find Misaki and then he clicks his tongue quietly, because he hasn’t met Misaki yet, right now Misaki is just some student at his school that he’s never talked to.

As Fushimi’s considering his options he hears the door slam and Niki’s voice floats up to him all sing-song, wondering where his little monkey is. Fushimi’s body reacts on instinct, trying to pull a knife from his sleeves and summon any power, be it red or blue — and nothing happens, because middle school Fushimi had no powers and didn’t carry knives in his sleeves. He can hear Niki ascending the stairs though and Fushimi is just sitting there trying to figure out how to get out of this, like does he just go out the window and hope he’s not followed. He ends up going for it, just jumping for a tree and climbing down and making a run for it, hearing Niki’s laughter behind him because Niki is so amused that his son decided to play tag with him. Fushimi doesn’t stop until he’s well away from that house and imagine he even finds himself by S4 headquarters, like his body just led him there and when he realizes where he’s run to he clicks his tongue in irritation. 

Fushimi has no idea if this is really the past and if what he does will affect anything in the future and if there’s a way to get back to his time safely. He doesn’t intend to spend the next few years of his life running from Niki though and imagine he uses all the money he’s got on him to buy some knives from whatever shady dealer let him buy them in the first place after he joined Homra and he gets to making a new knife harness. As he’s doing this he realizes from the date that it’s almost the day he meets Yata and imagine him pausing, fingers twitching slightly towards his collar even though there’s no longer a burn mark there. He thinks maybe he should skip school that day — but then he decides no, just in case after all, telling himself that it’s best not to upset the timeline and that’s the only reason why he's suddenly afraid of a world where he never meets Yata. 

And even though he just told himself that he shouldn’t upset the timeline when he goes back to the house he has a knife in hand as he carefully enters, wary of traps. It seems like no one’s there and he momentarily relaxes, which of course is when Niki pops out of nowhere and smacks his back all ‘you’re it!’. Fushimi immediately draws a knife this time, telling Niki to leave him alone. Niki just laughs though, wondering who let his little monkey play with sharp objects. He figures he should just take those away so Fushimi doesn’t hurt himself, Fushimi says Niki’s the only one who will get hurt. Niki laughs again and Fushimi feints towards him, trying to scare him away, but Niki just easily grabs his arm. He pulls the knife from Fushimi’s fingers and wonders who’s been teaching his monkey bad habits, and for a single terrifying moment Fushimi wonders if Niki’s going to use the knife on him. Niki lets him go though and suggests they play a knife throwing game, and Fushimi bites his tongue as he makes a break for his room, slamming the door and locking it. Imagine him sitting there as Niki laughs outside, quietly cursing himself because even after everything he still can’t defeat Niki, he’s still too weak to do anything at all, and no wonder Misaki left in the end.

I've never wanted to enter a fictional world THIS MUCH before!! Why must ALL the adults in this damn story be so disgusting!!! I hate these type of videos so much. Look, I don't consider myself a husbando puller, but it's upsetting how everytime there's a man in a banner youtubers immediately disregard them as an "easy skip". I know they make these videos to inform players of the best choice "meta-wise" and it's usually the female characters, but it still rubs me the wrong way and sometimes they are even wrong. I mean, look what happened with Lighter: ALL of them kept saying he was "useless" and a "massive skip" and what happened after his banner dropped? Yeah, turns out he's one of the best stunners in the game if not the best, and has insane synergy with both Ice and Fire teams. To the point where a lot of people wish they had pulled for him back then instead of listening to these ccs. Who would have thought, right?

past performance at the remaining five circuits for both bagnaia and martin

pretty obvious that jorge has had the edge at most of these tracks, with the caveat that this is a very limited sample size. last year pecco was in a position in the championship where it made sense to not risk too much (plus potential aftereffects of the catalunya injury), whereas this year he won't be able to afford that to the same extent. the positive for him is that he emerged from indonesia, a circuit where he has a clear pace deficit, in a marginally strengthened position - the less positive side is you wouldn't necessarily expect him to have an advantage over jorge at these other tracks

the sunday race in motegi last year has the asterisk that it was wet and red-flagged; for what it's worth (not much) practise wouldn't indicate pecco has a massive inherent pace deficit there - but you'd still give the advantage to jorge (cf pecco's horrendous 2022). phillip island last year was the one where jorge made The tyre choice but otherwise had a lot of pace in hand, that one feels like a bit of a toss up given neither has won there in the past (and also a plausible one for both finishing behind marc, maybe even a couple other riders). thailand last year was obviously a martin sweep, but that one did also feature the very tight three way battle in the race between those two and binder until the last lap (bagnaia only got p2 because of binder's track limit violation). again you'd lean martin. sepang feels like a toss up and one where you'd maybe expect bastianini to put in a repeat of last year's performance. valencia is the only one where you'd slightly lean pecco, if the title is still undecided then

overall, given the 21 point deficit and the circuit profiles to come, you'd have to say it's on martin's plate. there's a few more question marks like 'can pecco fix his start problem' and 'how competitive are the other riders' (especially at a track like phillip island) - at this stage a 9 point vs a 5 point swing is pretty substantial. plus ofc there's always stuff like 'hm the weather radar for motegi is looking a bit dubious for saturday'. then there's the obvious question of how both of them hold up mentally - especially given their respective positions in the standings. if the pace differential plays out as you'd expect, jorge can probably afford one more major fuck up and still come out on top, which gives him just about enough margin you'd have to reckon he can weather that storm. and if I were pramac, I'd take pains to ensure nobody tells him as much. pecco obviously can afford a grand total of zero major fuck ups, which traditionally does seem to have a positive impact on his performances. all of which probably means you'd expect them to converge again in the standings by end of the season, but with martin maintaining enough of a buffer to emerge on top. but who knows!

but yeah that's what i really love so much about minedai and mine though !! like yes mine is utterly head over heels for daigo, but that doesn't put a cork in his work ethic or his goals and it doesn't distract him from priorities: it's a nice reminder that mine's character doesn't revolve solely around daigo (even if daigo is a solid portion of it) and he's not afraid to speak his mind, even if it's against people he wants to build rapport with
