Some musicians surprise us by doing what they should not have done. For instance, Talk Talk shocked us this way – yes, you heard the story before in here, but I like that tale. They had an opportunity to do anything they wanted, which they transformed into both Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock. One continues to be baffled by how they changed their previous styles, even though one can notice the traces of that in the previous records. Sure, they were not as pronounced as they could've been, but they were there. Moreover, their post-rock continues to be stronger than that of a lot of players in this genre. The thing is I believe Talk Talk used the emotional palette the style provides more than many who followed them.

fun fact: most of the information we know about classic pirates (blackbeard, anne bonny, mary read, calico jack) is from one book. and it’s more hilarious the more you know.
A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the Most Notorious Pyrates (or A General History of Pyrates) by Captain Charles Johnson
firstly: captain charles johnson is not a person nor a captain. it’s a pen name. and we have no clue who he actually was. he probably chose “captain” to give himself a sense of credibility he did not have. (could possibly have been daniel defoe or nathaniel mist and you can actually find modern copies printed under both their names)
secondly: he made a lot of it up. he gathered whatever information was available and just made up the rest and anything he thought would make it cooler. that’s not even to mention the second volume where he made up several entire people. this dude was just making stuff up and it’s now the earliest history we have of these people and we’ve accepted it as fact.
thirdly: it was initially published in 1724. (golden age of piracy was 1650s-1830s, dude was writing about the present) several of the pirates he writes about were still alive. and the rest were very recently dead. (henry every is an outlier) he was literally making up facts about people who were very much alive likely while he was writing it.
so this mysterious random dude made up stories about pirates who were still running around killing people and it’s now accepted as pirate cannon. amazing

THE WEDDING OF PRINCE WILLIAM OF WALES AND MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON (NOW THE PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES) | APRIL 29 2011
On April 29th 2011, Prince William of Wales - the eldest son of The Prince of Wales and the late Diana Spencer, and the future heir to the throne - married his long-term partner, Miss Catherine Middleton, at Westminster Abbey, in London. The groom wore the ceremonial uniform of the Irish Guards and was attended by his brother, Prince Henry of Wales, who acted as Best Man.
Catherine, the daughter of Michael and Carole Middleton, wore an ivory gown from Alexander McQueen, as well as the Halo Scroll Tiara on loan from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her sister, Philippa "Pippa" Middleton acted as her Maid of Honour, while her brother, James, performed a reading.
The remainder of the bridal party was made up of the groom's cousin, Lady Louise Windsor; the groom's second cousin, Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones; the groom's step-niece, Eliza Lopes; the daughter of the couple's friend, Grace van Cutsem; the son of the groom's childhood nanny, Tom Pettifer; and the son of the groom's Private Secretary, William Lowther-Pinkerton.
The couple have gone on to have three children - George, Charlotte, and Louis - as well as two dogs, Lupo and Orla. The couple have recently moved into Adelaide Cottage, in Windsor. In a few days, they will attend the coronation of William's father and step-mother at Westminster Abbey.

Henry ‘Chips’ Channon: The Diaries (Vol. 1), 1918-38, entry for 25th June 1923
— Monday 25th June A quiet weekend at Lady Lowther’s house in Queen Anne’s Mead, Windsor. We played heaps of tennis and, on Sunday evening, went on the river like the [sic] hoi polloi in a punt. Lady Lowther ever chic, ever French, has never got over being Ambassadress to Constantinople ... her memories of the palace on the Bosphorus and John Bullish daughters are all that remain of her grandeur ... it was the high-water mark of her life .... She admitted being the heroine of that ironical book of Edith Wharton’s¹ The House of Mirth. — 1. Edith Newbold Jones (1862-1937), married in 1885 to Edward Robbins Wharton, was an American novelist of the belle époque, known for her depictions of American society. Her 1905 novel The House of Mirth was the story of a woman who rose through society from humble origins, and attacks the corruption and decadence of the elite.

Many musicians are not willing to surprise us. True, very few are ready to reinvent themselves completely, because this decision carries a lot of implications and the responsibility to accept that? Many found that tough to handle. Moreover, when could they do something like this? Well, Talk Talk, for instance, did that after their greatest success and, well, the rest is history. Yes, Spirit Of Eden still shocks us in comparison to what happened before, though I believe the disc would get a better approval in the 90's. However – would the 90's happen without Spirit Of Eden? Yes, this is some weird tautology, but pay attention – xou can trace so many developments we take for granted on this LP, yet the disc stays as more enigmatic than those that were influenced by that.

Kenny Wheeler's Masterpiece: "Music for Large & Small Ensembles"
Introduction: In the realm of jazz composition, few names command as much respect and admiration as Kenny Wheeler. Released in 1990 by ECM Records, “Music for Large & Small Ensembles” stands as a monumental testament to Wheeler’s prowess as a trumpeter, flugelhorn player, and, above all, a brilliant composer. At its core lies “The Sweet Time Suite,” a composition of extraordinary depth and…
