Avatar: The Last Airbender

Fact #1: I have never seen this.

Fact #2: I asked for, and received, the full series on DVD for Christmas.

Fact #3: I am starting it... tonight.

It has been mentioned to me that it might be fun to post as I go along, so I will! I make no promises to do this hugely consistently, or in a great deal of detail - I have a lot on at the moment without adding something else I feel pressured to keep up with. However, I’m going to start the series tonight and I’ll post my thoughts, whatever they are, and we’ll see where we go from there!

I’ll be tagging everything “hermitknut watches a:tla” if you want to follow along/block the tag.

In the interests of uh. science? or whatever, I present to you the list of things I already know about this show, largely from tumblr:

1. everything changed when the fire nation attacked. or so they tell me.

2. there’s four main kinds of powers, and the kid with the blue arrow on his head has... all of them? Or something.

3. he wanders around the country with a bunch of friends, one of whom is blind, and all of whom are sarcastic.

4. one of these friends is the angry boy with the birthmark over his eye who everyone yells “honour” at; I hear he has an excellent redemption arc so I’m guessing he’s only a friend later on.

5. “my girlfriend turned into the moon” “that’s rough buddy” (I have no idea what this means I’ve just seen it a lot)

6. angry boy has a terrible parent and possibly a terrifying sister? 

7. there’s a sequel series with lesbians at the end, which sounds great.

That’s pretty much it; feel free to laugh along or ignore as you please :) I have the appropriate tags blocked but obviously please don’t spoil me :P

This series is absolutely INCREDIBLE and I am SO GLAD I watched it. I can’t wait to rewatch it in the summer (I’m planning it with a friend) – and next month I’m going to get hold of Legend of Korra to keep me going in the meantime.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s been following along, it’s been really lovely to share this with you!! I am one hundred percent here for anyone who wants to talk (read: let me yell with them) about the whole series now, provided there are no Korra spoilers.

 This is… really good. Like, I’m already super into it. I was a little worried that I might find it a bit slow or hard to stay focused on (which is what I struggle with with Dragon Prince, even though I know it’s good – it’s the wrong speed for my concentration) but it was wonderful! Looking forward to the next batch of episodes.

So I actually stopped typing because I had my hands clamped over my mouth for like the last five minutes of the episode (in a GOOD WAY though)

I then promptly called @1boo and yelled at her for like 20 minutes because HOLY SHIT I could not get organised enough to type anything

After a brief cooldown period, some thoughts:

1. OSUDHFOSUDRHGOSUDGHFOSIDHFGJOSUEHGTIUSHGFOISUEH GOSIUHGFISHSDFHSDOLGFLOSHGOSUHGOSGHD

2. ZUKO JOINED UP WITH AZULA WHAT THE HELL

3. See I know that season 1 is Air, season 2 is Earth, and season 3 is Fire – it’s on the DVD cases. So I really expected Zuko to join up with the others at the end of this season, with the understanding that he and Iroh would teach Aang firebending? BUT NO

4. I’m guessing we need this twist because Zuko’s not ready to fully give up on the Fire Nation as-is yet – so he’s gonna fall in for a while and then, presumably make his decision to leave. Which he needs, because before when he left the fire nation the decision was made FOR HIM and now he needs to make it FOR HIMSELF. idk. it’s just a theory.

5. AANG NEARLY LITERALLY DIED AND I NEARLY DIED WITH HIM OH MY GOD

6. Bascially, I am apparently going into season three with NO FUCKING CLUE WHAT TO EXPECT
