Kdrama recs Part 1

Hullo and welcome to the kdrama life @camsthisky​! The following list is not in any particular order, other than the fact that I start with a more rom/com vibe and head toward more romantic/action or action. All the following kdramas are set in the modern day, and part 2 of my recs for you will be either darker kdramas set in present day or historical dramas.

Let the list begin!

1. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: 

Do Bong Soon is a v smol woman who has super strength and who wants 1. To create her own video game 2. Get her police officer crush to return her affections. Which like, police officer is kinda cute but he ain’t that special. Bong Soon winds up becoming a bodyguard to Ahn Min Hyuk, the extremely rich, kinda spoiled, ridiculously extra CEO of a gaming company who does not like the police for secret reasons, and sadly does not have a good relationship with his family. (He a lonely boy underneath everything.) Min Hyuk finds out about Bong Soon’s powers, is in TOTAL awe of her, offers to train her in fighting, and literally falls head over heels for her.

The caveat with this show is there is a subplot or two that annoy me, BUT I just use the 10 second skip button and it is totally worth it because the romance is super cute—SUPER CUTE (also I have a list of favorite actors and Park Hyung Sik is def on it—one minute he is an adorkable, blushing bby the next he can be intense and sad)

2. Her Private Life: 

Hello fake-dating!! Ryan Gold (an adoptee who didn’t live in Korea for a while) is a former artist who stopped painting because he couldn’t deal with his Stendhol (?) syndrome (among other traumas). Deok Mi is the classy art curator of a famous museum who definitely does not have any secrets she wants to keep from the world—well, other than the fact that she is the number one fangirl of kpop idol, Cha Shi-an (who also appreciates art) and has a major crush on him. Ryan becomes director of the art museum and there is a whole thing with getting Shi-an involved in an art show.

Following this and a series of unfortunate events a false rumor starts that Deok Mi and and Shi-an ARE dating. It’s a little complicated to summarize, but basically what you need to know is that Ryan and Deok Mi become a fake couple so there won’t be a scandal for Shi-an or violence done to Deok Mi by rabid fangirls. I enjoy the fake-dating trope a lot, and how it becomes real for both of them! The leads are played by Kim Jae Wook and Park Min Young, who both have incredible range. Lots of soft moments in this one! Good kisses, a scene where the faves bake together, and also Ryan wears a lot of deep v-neck shirts and jackets which is an attack on me personally.

The show also contains a bit of angst, which I LOVE. Hand-holding becomes an important theme 😊

RYAN NO

3. Crash Landing on You: Rich South Korean heiress/fashion designer Se-ri accidentally winds up in a North Korean village, and really REALLY wants to go home. Mostly because there are no scented candles or spa-like bathtubs in the vicinity, but also because she could easily disappear into a NK jail and never return. A North Korean captain named Ri Jeong Hyeok finds her and decides not to turn her because, one, he’s a good guy who doesn’t want to turn an innocent person over to what might be her death, and two, turning her over might get his four underlings in trouble for reasons. Said underlings are his family, basically, and they are a deLIGHT. One is an argumentative proud sort who likes to drink and to feel important and who tries to provoke (and gets provoked by) Se-ri at every opportunity, one is a lover of banned South Korean dramas, one is a 17 year old bby who misses his mom, and one is the silent but most loyal follower of the captain. 

Besides all these people, there are two other characters (including a surprisingly wise conman) who become faves and major players in the plot.

There is a great mix of humor, romance, found family, and angst, and I love it very much. A few things don’t go the way I want them to near the end, but a bit of imagination and fanfic can fix anything

4. Are You Human Too: A FAVORITE SHOW OF ALL! TIME!

What do you do when your husband dies and your evil mega-rich father-in-law takes your son away from you and keeps you from seeing him ever? Well, if you are scientist with more genius than positive coping methods, you build yourself a robot son who looks exactly like your real son. Great solution, am I right?

Nam Shin III is the name of my favorite robot son, played by the inestimable Seo Kang Joon. He is the purest bby you will ever meet, being designed so that he never lies and so that he will immediately go to hug anyone who cries. He seems quite a contrast to the bitter human Nam Shin, who hates his gilded prison life, hates his Grandpa, and tries to sneak away from his right hand man, Secretary Ji Young Hoon, his only friend in the world. The girl in the show is Kang So Bong, an ex-UFC fighter who was so badly injured she had to quit. She is at first a bit jaded and mercenary because of her past, but she has a golden heart that just needs to be reminded of its existence.

Not going into details to avoid spoilers, but everything upends when the robot Nam Shin has to take the place of the human Nam Shin. The show is a soft, funny, angsty exploration of what it means to be human, with some good found family throughout. The character development is phenomenal, and the connection between So Bong and Nam Shin III is *chef’s kiss*. I just want to give a shout out to Seo Kang Joon who plays a duel role like you wouldn’t believe, to SKJ’s smile, to the soundtrack, and to the character of Young Hoon, a loyal, steady, and self-sacrificing secretary that we do not deserve  (gosh tho he looks good in blue!)

5. W: Two Worlds: 

This show unique because it  meta as HELL! Oh Yeon Joo is a junior doctor and the daughter of a webtoon artist whose big hit, W, is coming to a close. Much to her surprise, she gets pulled into the world of the comic where she encounters and saves the main character, Kang Chul, a former Olympic shooting champion who was blamed for the murder of his entire family, and whose sole desire is to find the real killer. It’s a good romance between them, and I also love Kang Chul’s relationship with his hyung, which, tho it is not always a main focus, is present and wonderful. Kang Chul himself is both intelligent and adorably bratty, charismatic and angsty, soft and fierce, and he is one of my favorite kdrama characters for sure.

As for the meta, the show does a fantastic job exploring the rules of the comic world, of how one can enter and leave, the importance and power of main characters and supporting characters, and the purpose of an author. There is always another twist coming, and it is just so much fun!

UM SIR PLS POINT THAT ELSEWHERE

6. Healer: 

I watched half this show and never realized that the female lead is played by Park Min Young, same actress as in Her Private Life. Someone had to tell me lol! She’s just so good at playing different people. In this show, she is Chae Young Shin, a reporter for a celebrity tabloid who has big dreams of becoming a famous reporter who investigates stories that actually mean something. She is a bit quirky, very cute, very brave, and probably one of my favorite female leads. She lives with her dad above his coffee/teashop bakery and is friends with all the ex-cons he has defended while doing his other job of lawyering.

Anyway this show is more of a romantic/action drama. To get an idea of the titular Healer, picture what you would get if you took some of Batman and Nightwing’s aesthetics (wearing black, hanging out on rooftops, punching people, flipping around, etc) and put them into a night courier who likes to watch National Geographic and dream about one day going off to an island where he can live all by himself for the rest of his days because oh yeah he is a loner whose only friend is an older woman who sets up his jobs and whom he has never actually met.

There is also an older reporter that Young Shin looks up to, the fun tabloid office where she works, a heck lot of mystery surrounding some tragedy involving a group of reporter best friends/found family back in the 80’s/90’s, and of course both members of the OTP have childhood trauma that has made them who they are today. One of my favorite things that happens in the show is that Healer has to go undercover for a while, Clark Kenting it up in Young Shin’s tabloid office, which overnight becomes a real news agency for reasons.

The action is LOTS of fun, and the romance is really soft and cute, and better still, when there is a misunderstanding or something that gets in their way, they almost immediately talk about it and resolve issues. They TRUST each other and give the benefit of the doubt where many tv couples would break up or get in big fights. I find it (plus the character development) very refreshing.

7. Lawless Lawyer: This has Lee Joon Gi. Watch it.

Just kidding, there are many other reasons to watch the show, but it is true that Lee Joon Gi is one of my favorite actors. The man has phoenix eyes, a jawline that could cut silk, diamonds, you name it, and such a deep well of emotional acting that it literally kills me when his characters rage/weep/love/etc.

Anyway, in this legal thriller/romance/action drama, LJG’s character Bong Sang Pil is a beautiful, very extra ex-gangster/now lawyer who opens his own office, ready to fight villainy and avenge his mom with the law or with his fists, whichever is more useful at the time. He has a right hand man named Manager Tae and recruits a bunch of thugs as his minions, and they all become a weird sort of family as the show goes on.

Ha Jae Yi is a quiet badass lawyer who has no time for sexist idiots and gets her license suspended for smacking one of said fools. She gets recruited to assist Sang Pil, and they find their goals align as both their mothers were destroyed by the villains.

Speaking of the villains? EXCELLENT acting by them all, like they need to go down obviously, but you can’t help but be in awe of a few of them or even get attached to one or two in a weird way. Props to the show for having one of the best female villains I have ever seen

SNSD/ Girl’s Generation Kwon Yuri Birth Chart Description

hi fairies! I decided to do another birth chart description with another SNSD member that I find interesting --- Kwon Yuri! 

Miss Yuri was born on 5 December 1989 which makes her a sagittarius sun, pisces moon! just based on her sun and moon alone, yuri possesses a lot of neptune and jupiter influences. This is very obvious in her personality and the way she presents herself, because she is extremely entertaining, honest to a fault, ditzy and innocent! In terms of innocence, I would say she’s not the type to play much mind games, and this may cause others to take advantage of her easily. The SNSD members often take advantage of this trait of hers, by tricking her when playing rock paper scissors or making gag jokes out of her! 

With a sagittarius sun, yuri is bright and motivated. at a young age, she was already known for her swimming skills, and her sporty side! even in snsd sport shows, yuri remains as the top few of the team with a athletic body and quick reaction. Yuri is also honest and does not appreciate trickery. She fits well with members who have stronger air or fire in their chart, because she is a very fiery person herself! Sagittarius suns also tend to be outgoing and friendly. Yuri is known to be friends with almost everyone, and she was also often found in clubs when she was younger! I would say she’s one of the wilder members in SNSD, although all of them are wild in their own right. She is naturally kind-hearted and competitive while sporting camaraderie. 

I would say Yuri’s pisces moon influences her a lot. Having a 1° 13' pisces moon makes her sensitive and receptive to the emotions around her. Especially since this is a very early degree, yuri might be embracing this new energy and being more forward with it, just like a young child. This can be helpful in her career because working in a group with 8 other girls for a decade is not easy. It requires compromise and understanding, which I say Yuri has one of the best in the team. She rarely gets into big fights with the members. Even if she does, I see her “shutting down” quickly and retreating into her room when she fights. Having a pisces moon also makes her good at art-related things, such as singing, dancing and acting. She is sensitive, thus allowing her to relay her emotions very quickly. If you listen to SNSD ballads, or watch dramas that Yuri has acted in, she fits into the roles very easily and she tends to be very emotional with her acting. Although not obvious, she displays the typical matyr or moody traits of pisces as well. Yuri has written a ballad song for SNSD called “Mistake” -- where the lyrics go 

“ It’s my mistake For not making you love me more It’s my mistake For loving you more than you love me I did not make you love me more As much as I do It’s my mistake ”

The lyrics are heartwrenching, because Yuri blames “herself” for being not good enough to make him love her, or that she loved him more than he did. This self-blaming mindset is very common in pisces and may cause her to be moody or reclusive at times. Luckily, Yuri remains a positive outlook on life!

The most interesting point of her chart would be the stellium on capricorn(venus, saturn, uranus and neptune!) having capricorn helps to ground Yuri down, and give her motivation drive to go after her dreams. Especially with her venus in capricorn, this gives her a classy vibe. If you look at her daily fashion or airport fashion, she often spots an earth-toned outerwear or a pair of sunglasses. With the mixture of capricorn and sagittarius, this gives Yuri a very effortless fashion sense. She loves dressing up and she feels good about herself. Sagittarius often has very good fashion sense, and combining with Capricorn, it helps her to keep her outfits neat and attractive. Yuri may appear rich and stable, and she may attract males who are more sensitive. Yuri looks good in white, black, gold and purple which brings out her capricorn side. With her personal planets in sagittarius, pisces, capricorn, scorpio, i would say yuri has a very interesting personality. on one hand, she is lighthearted, easy-going, sensitive and wise. she is ready to see the world for what it is and act as the bigger person, or be the understanding one. She is also dreamy and innocent, and often has luck coming her way easily. Even with bouts of bad luck, she seems to move over them quickly and rise from the ashes to soar again. Although I do not know her rising sign, I would guess that Yuri could be a leo or cancer rising.(Although I’m leaning towards cancer) this is because yuri wears her heart on her sleeve most of the time be it on variety shows, or in her music career. She is transparent with her team members and often acts as a supportive pillar. She is a team player and often provides joy and laughter to the team even before they debuted. With a leo(with an interception)/cancer rising, she could have a aries midheaven, which makes her come off as forward and athletic. She often catches people’s attention and is always up for a challenge. Yuri is known for being consistent in doing yoga, as well as doing stretches daily. It would not come off as a surprise that she has a aries midheaven! yuri is also known for her comical charm, and she is not the type of girl to put up a facade to charm people. with her honesty and boyish charm, she is naturally popular! yuri has also been caught up in some lesbian scandal in the past, which makes sense because aries are often seen in a sexual light unintentionally by the public. yuri is almost always known as the “husband” or plays the more mature and seductive role in romantic pairings with females. however because this is just a theory, I am not able to deduce further. This is just an interesting theory!

Yuri also has a jupiter in cancer retrograde, which means that her luck comes from being in touch with her emotions and being compassionate to those around her. being in a team benefits yuri a lot, because she gets to form a tight bond and this bond can help her tide over any difficulties. however, with a retrograde, she may find this energy harder to access and has to look into herself for security. at a young age, she may be feeling empty or lost or is always waiting for the “right moment” to shine. this may make sense with her being a trainee since young, waiting for the right moment to debut. she may feel clumsy and new at times, because she may doubt whether she really deserves this blessing. although i may not know her personally, i sure know snsd has gone through a lot in order to debut! she most certainly deserves this 💕

Ren: (Gives Futuba a "Really?" Look) Futuba, I'm not dying my hair gold.

Futuba: Ah Come on!! It won't be that bad! And I'm pretty sure Sojiro would be fine with you having it eventually.

Ren: Maybe. But you forget that I also have A Witch and Goddess as my two Moms. And I doubt either of them would be happy that I dyed my curls. Especially Bayonetta.

Futuba: Why her exclusively?

Ren: (Shrugged) Cause she adores my hair. Says I look like a Mini Version of herself.

Futuba: Ohhhhhhhh.....So that's why everything thought of you as her legitimate son at first.

Ren: Pretty much. (Starts Smirking a Little) And their not entirely wrong on the front.

Futuba: (Rolled her Eyes a Little) Okay. But seriously, though. Don't you wanna experience a day or two being a Gangstar like our Golden Boi, Giorno Giovanna?

Ren: Okay that's another thing we need to talk about. Why are you trying to compare to that guy anyways? I know we both have unnatural powers and all, but we're not THAT similar.

Futuba: (Starts Smirking in a Nerdy yet Cute Fashion) On the contrary, my Dear Big Brother, you and Giorno indeed have some similarities to one another.

Ren: (Sigh while Rolling His Eyes) Alright, Lil' Miss Einstein. Name me some examples if you're sooooo sure about that fact.

Futuba: Well for one, you both would always be the Wild Cards of the group. Always trying to find some crazy tactics in order to win every major fight.

Ren: Now did you mentioned it....I did thought up some really crazy ideas when it comes to dealing with Personas and whatnot. And I couldn't tell you many times I was surprised to see Giorno's crazy-ass plans actually worked and benefited him on each of his fights.

Futuba: Right. Right.

Ren: ...................(Shrugged) Eh. You got anything else?

Futuba: Well.....You two would always try and help your pals in need. Although, you mostly help almost everyone you meet compared to Giorno....so there's that.

Ren: (Thought about what Futuba said before He Nodded) I can believe that. What's next?

Futuba: The next thing is that you two are extremely reckless. Especially in Near Death Situations.

Ren: ('Scoffs') Please. Name one time I ever been Reckless.

Futuba: (Gives Ren a Look) Ren. Do you really want me to go there?

Ren: (Looks Away) W-Well I mean.... You're the one who mentioned that.... Clearly Untrue Fact around here. So....

Futuba: Okay. But do you REALLY want me to prove you wrong here? Or Maybe you want me to call your Queen to come here and let her prove you wrong instead?

Ren: (Rolled his Eyes Unconvinced) You're bluffing-

Futuba: (Already On the Phone) Hello?~ Makoto-

Ren: Alright, fine!! I get it! You were right. I am Reckless. Just please don't call Makoto to come here.

Futuba: (Smiles Innocently) Thank you!

Ren: ('Sigh in Relief') Thank, Arnse....

Futuba: Oh relax. I wasn't actually going to call your girlfriend. I was just seeing how far you go on your little denial. (Shows Ren her phone was on Lock Screen the whole time) See?

Ren: You little prankster.....(Smirks Playfully) You made me proud.

Futuba: (Smiles Brightly) I've learned from the best.

Ren: That you have. You got anymore similarities you wanna add in?

Futuba: Wellllllll......I was going to say that you and Giorno's are too OP compared to all of us....But after watching the last few episodes together, I think Giorno is already on top of another level entirely when it comes to being powerful.

Ren: (Shrugged) Eh. I can still take him.

Futuba: No you can't.

Ren: ('Scoffs') Yes I can.

Futuba: No, Seriously. You really can't beat him, Ren. No one can for that matter. I mean, do you even remember what he did to Diavolo?

Ren: Yeah..... (Shivers a Little from Remember what Giorno did to Diavolo at the end of Golden Wind) We all remembered that scene......But I'm sure that's a one time thing, you know?

Futuba: Ren, that happened during the last episode of the Part. Meaning that the fact of Giorno Giovanna being one of the most OP characters in Anime History is now Absolute. So I want you to promise me that if you ever see him in person, that you NEVER challenge him into a fight. Capiche?

Ren: (Raised an Eyebrow) Futuba, are you kidding me-

Futuba: PROMISE ME!!!!!

Ren: ('Groans') Alright! Alright! I promise not to challenge Giorno Giovanna in a fight if we ever meet in person. You happy?

Futuba: (Smiles Again) Very. Thank you, bro.

Ren: Uh-huh. So.....now that you're finish pointing out similarities, I gotta ask. Between the two of us, who would you say is your favorite?

Futuba: Good Question.....(Thought about Ren's Question for a few seconds before coming up with an Answer) Well.... If you really want my answer on this....(Smiles Softly) I'd say my favorite is you, Ren.

Ren: (Genuinely Suprised by Futuba's answer) Wait. Really? You're not just saying that to make me feel better, are you?

Futuba: (Frowns while Swatting Ren's arm) Of course I'm not just saying that, you dumb-dumb. I really meant what I said. Heck, if anything.....(Hugs Ren) I'd say you're my hero.

Ren: Seriously?

Futuba: Yep. Ever since I decided to join the Phantom Thieves, you actually inspired me to have confidence in myself everyday. Even when things seems impossible at first. Plus.....It really makes me happy that you see me as your Little Sister. Cuz if it's not clear by now, you're the Big Brother I never thought I wanted up until now. So in conclusion......(Smiles Brightly) I'm really glad I have you in my life, Ren Amimiya.

Ren: (Smiles Softly while Hugging Futuba back as Feels like his Heart is about to Melt from Futuba's preciousness) Have anyone ever tell you how much of a Precious Bean you really are?

Futuba: Not really. (Chuckles Lightly) This is actually the first time you ever called my that.

Ren: (Chuckles Lightly) Well, it's the truth. Cuz you are one to me at least. (Kiss the top Futuba's forehead) I love you, kiddo.

Futuba: (Snuggle into Ren's Embrace with a Smile) I love you too, Big Brother.

Ren: Soooooooooo....... Not sure if it's the right time to tell you this, buuuuuut....I might be think about sparring a little with the new boss of Passione-

Ren: (Chuckles Lightly from Futuba's Outburst) Relax, Lil' Sis. (Ruffles the Top of Futuba's Hair) I'm only kidding.

okay this mans is 100% a gryffindor

like this should not be a surprise to anyone

first off, we all know that harry potter is 100% problematic and loses house points for them all the time

this choice should come as no surprise as brian harold may is a true and true ravenclaw

we’re going to start off with how ravenclaws are all so goddamn cool and intelligent ????? like wow, no one can top that shit

brian may is literally a rockstar and astrophysicist and that’s some hardcore ravenclaw energy right there

ravenclaws are also so hardcore interested in the universe

they nut for philosophical conversations and that sort of shit

look at luna lovegood for example

this girl always had the coolest and most interesting shit to say

she is also so fucking smart and no one really believed it for a hot minute and that makes me so angry

ravenclaws also have the ability to see past the surface of what’s in front of them

brian totally has the ability to see past the front that someone has so carefully put up and would get to know you for who you are

also, he looked up at the stars one day and saw them for so much more than glittery things in the sky

john is the most chaotic member of the band and he knows it too
