I do think there’s something especially tragic about Seven being deadnamed. I was hestirant to call it deadnaming at first, not because that’s not what Shaw is doing, but because the situation in why she goes by Seven is drastically different than most situation in which someone could/would have a deadname.

I’m not trans so correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d say that generally a trans person changing their name is a positive event. Y’know they’re becoming who they want to be and the name is part of that, deadnaming is not just rude but refusing to accept who they are and who they want to become.

But Annika becoming Seven… wasn’t positive. She didn’t decide to become Seven, she had Annika stolen from her. Seven’s said it herself, Annika Hansen was killed by the borg. Seven isn’t Annika because she never even had the chance, Annika was never able to become anyone.

So I feel like it’s not just Shaw deadnaming her, aside from the obvious transphobic/racist metaphors going on there, but the tragedy is that Seven of Nine only exists because Annika Hansen was murdered.
