I want to write a HickeyBilly Promethus AU, Hickey as David and Billy as shaw. These two god-complex grandiose-delusion lover-muderers impostor uncanny motherfuckers have too much in common. Robot Hickey favorite film will be ummmmm The Servant (1963), he likes Dirk Bogarde.

It will always be funny to me that out of the two of them, Billy is for sure the more practical, the one who is able to put personal feelings and morals second and actually make the more objective decisions. While Hickey is three personal vendettas in a trenchcoat!

@fireferns making a new post so i don't keep putting that increasingly long one on people's dashes, but YES, i love that as well. I've definitely talked on here about how much I like the contrast of Hickey as active and Billy as reactive (Hickey takes initiative and acts impulsively and moves the narrative along, Billy responds more subtly to other people's actions. although of course as discussed, even most of hickey's actions are still in response to circumstances as they arise, rather than being something he plans out in advance, because he's never really in a position of enough power to do otherwise. Even once he's in a position to boss people around, he's still at the mercy of cold and starvation). I also love that Hickey is a self-deluded optimist who likes drama and ritual (despite his aspirations toward cold calculating practicality), and Billy is the sensible pragmatist that Hickey wants to be.

When Billy dobs him in to Irving, Hickey is hurt and slighted that Billy would do it at all, but also I think a bit miffed that Billy thought of it before he did (I was about to go on another tangent about what everyone's thinking and feeling in the rat divorce scene, but i'm restraining myself for once). Prior to the scurvy setting in, Billy is a pretty capable second in command for Hickey. He's the one who suggests they make a go of it on their own, he's the one who can read maps and charts, he takes charge of getting the boat sled ready to go, he keeps Manson on task and rounds up recruits while the Tuunbaq attack is taking place. He hides the extent of his illness up until the last possible moment, at which point he accepts with calm resignation that he is going to die. And I don't think it's a coincidence that once he's gone, that's when Hickey starts to drift increasingly far from the mundane human concerns of survival.
