i remember one time a kid was really stressed on reddit bc their parents were forcing them to take on a double major and i commented that unless you're going into a program that requires a specific degree, ultimately what you studied in college doesn't actually matter when you're applying to jobs it's all about the college itself and i got downvoted to OBLIVION with a ton of parents telling me i was leading this kid astray. that was like the last real comment i made on reddit. how exhausting. here on tumblr i could have so easily vagued to the girls because you only get truly annoying commenters in the 400+ notes posts

yelling into the void
everybody needs healthcare
so many companies are only hiring part time employees because they dont want to spend money by providing them with benefits. These people need healthcare
So many jobs are now "independent contractors", again no benefits. These people need healthcare.
Maybe the healthcare your job would provide you doesnt fit your needs. You still need healthcare
Maybe you don't work at all, for any reason. You still need healthcare.
I hate all this "people are taking advantage of Medicaid" shut the fuck uppppp like Thats good, people are using it. Because Everyone needs healthcare
Everyone likes to say It needs to be revamped. Absolutely it does. But shutting down a service that Keeps People Alive as a way to address that is- ya know what im not even going to explain that part because jfc
I watched a congressional committee hearing in which Every Single Republican on that committee repeatedly said "No one is going to cut Medicaid." And then kept bringing up average phone call hold wait times. Like that's an excuse to cut down on phone lines, to close down entire offices, to shutter the service entirely.
Fuck every single one of them.

The allegations attracted significant public and political interest until late 1990, when separate state and federal grand juries concluded that the allegations were unfounded and the ring was a "carefully crafted hoax."
Vs
In July 1990, private investigator Gary Caradori, hired by the Franklin Committee to investigate the allegations, died along with his 8-year-old son when his plane disintegrated in mid-air near Chicago. Foul play was suspected by Caradori's brother and state Senator Loran Schmit, but was not proven by investigators. No definitive cause for the crash has been established.
Why cover up a hoax? The plane disintegrated??
This is reading like, the court preferred to believe the witnesses were perjuring because the claims were so extreme? Like, its very "michelle remembers" but i dont know the details of the evidence collected that undermined the testimony, or the validity of the evidence simply being absent
But as ive said before, dont trials like this make it obvious that outlandishness is actually a feasible way to get away with shit that would otherwise be believed because it's more in the realm of things courts have actually heard a million times? IE how many people accepted only by the "satanic ritual abuse survivors" community were in fact actually abused by people who knew crazy sounding stories made the whole thing less credible? Ergo the more bizarre the abuse is the easier it is to get away with, no? (Part of the epstein lists problem is the known facts are relatively banal, its all kind of boilerplate--a depressing thought--from what people have said, except for the weird temple on his island that no one seems to mention)
Like, real questions. Theres got to be some stock aphorism about making crimes so ridiculous that no one believes they happened....
I got onto the topic from a video where a journalist who pursues these stories is discussing epstein, and he seems to find this case im asking about here entirely credible which is so at odds with the initial ruling (one accuser did end up with 1mil in damages after the accused dude later went down on like a 38mil fraud charge for using his position as an avenue for massive embezzling) ....basically it seems like the journo's thinking is, if we agree there was for sure one dude trafficking kids to rich people, ie epstein, theres gotta be/have been more in the business, like its unlikely he was the first and only one if there's such a market/appetite for it
And i guess my question then is, was epstein so tame by comparison that someone who's seen it ALL would have a warped frame of reference and call him a fun guy to spend time with like trump did before immediately admitting he was basically aware the girls were minors. If he's just like "ho hum not for me but you do you" about much younger kids being put in even shitter situations it would really be the most compelling reason i can figure out for him thinking epstein is cool and that hanging out with him doesnt look bad

ok actually im going to put my own analysis in a separate post so it doesnt end up being wierd navel gazing on someone else's post.
So. Email. I get...several varieties of email. Which seems like it is a normal and expected amount of email. And yet....i struggle. The emails/teams messages are:
1. stupid company stuff (parking, coffee machine is broken, new hires, social committee stuff)
2. professional stuff (updates on committees/associations my work is related to, conferences, etc)
3. Following up on project deliverables or responses I need to provide (guilt)
4. General project emails either providing information or asking for input on a broad or general item (fuck not again) (unclear what my obligation is - have to read and parse very carefully to determine if i have to do something about it. And then sometimes i need to double check with someone to make sure ive understood it correctly and there isnt a problem with me responding and then sometimes there is a problem! And i get yelled at! Because people are shitty! And i am actually very angry about this)
5. Following up on project responses or deliverables someone else needs to provide (helplessness)
6. Emails from people i hate corresponding with (helplessness, guilt, shame).
7. People asking me to do a new thing that i havent thought about or worked on yet (fun! Novel! Channels the people-pleasing and the urgency in a really effective focus way)
8. People asking me to work on proposals, which at least have a finite end date and i can just GRIND at until theyre done.
Interesting. Ok apparently part of my stress about emails is the conflict of people ACTIVELY WAITING and TRACKING THE TIME it takes me to respond and the need to stay focused on a single task (ideally the one im DOING) before I can review and respond. Because i can take my time to think about and compile a response in peace after 5 pm when everyone else has left the office.
So i REALLY NEED the hours between 7 and 9 am to DO things and formulate my thoughts. To prevent me from pulling these RIDICULOUS long days where i have a 4 hour chunk in the middle where im just...stuck. or actively avoiding something.

Making a kobold alchemist for a P2E game.
Heres the current lore dump, subject to change
Degree Brix. Named after a method for measuring percent alcohol in wine (by hydrometer).
Tall for a kobold, 3’ 6” clever. Full of secrets. Hails from [City name here] a city that is now 60% kobold, 20% tallmen 10% dwarf 10% other
City was to doubled in size so the dragon Empyre hired a clan of dwarves to create a new kobold quarter thats well designed to work eat and live in an area, as well as develop the other side of the city for new arts, trading and some residency for taller humanoids.
Empyre is like “the Taylor swift of dragons” to kobolds. This is important because politically the city has elections where the % of power is distributed by % of votes. Most popular is president, second is vice, and after that its consolidated power of individuals who form boards and committees.
Point being this celebrity of a dragon always wins president and treats the govt work as secondary to being an artist. Vice goes to a board of tallmen merchants then its a kobold committee. Dwarves are now independent due to a reexamination of their contract with Emypre compared to the tallmen deal and there was a legal loophole that the land is to the dwarf clan and is considered a separate territory so they are now independent.
So on one hand the infrastructure is pretty good due to early developments but kobolds are being left behind since the “Taylor swift of dragons” spends more time on art than ruling the city.
Alchemist working for the Empyre, primarily for like wine and scalecare products but also a secret project division to either create a dragon or like turn a kobold into a dragon to either create a dynasty for Empyre or its like a way to uplift the kobolds into their own independence depending on how the technology is used. Doesnt have to be a violent revolution but the idea of a small dragon raised as a kobold with kobold ideals…. That could challenge the reign of empyre for popularity.
Brix will have a familiar lab assistant which looks like a kobold of average height, i can see this assistant either being a random bold, or a clone, or like Brix laid an egg and stole um genetic material from Empyre to create a kobold/dragon “half dragon”
Could go a few ways from a frankenstein approach to like a rocky horror vibe of creating the perfect draconic being.

Heyyy, sooo when I heard that BTS didn't win, I was so sad ; especially because we know the Grammys are using them for the money and to have people watch their show. Anyway, as I'm not American and I didn't really know how the Grammys worked, I searched on the Internet and I was kinda scared to find things that would confirm the accusations of racism/xenophobia about BTS losing the award. However, I feel like, from what I read, it doesn't seem like it ?? Like I can't tell for sure right but I wanted to know what u think about it cuz here's what I found (sorry if you already knew how it works) : there's the Recording Academy's voting members : songwriters, producers ect, who are in charge of voting for 2 things. First, the artists who get nominated and then the ones who win. Sooo my conclusion is that, they wouldn't have voted for them in the first place to get them nominated if it was really xenophobic, right ?
It kinda ease my mind to think that it's very much possible that it's just a matter of "Who they thought deserved it the most".
Just wanted to share this, sorry to bother and I wish u all the best with your writing ! ❤
Lots of love ❤
hi babe. i can tell youre coming from a good place. i don’t wanna burst your bubble & i’m usually all for looking on the bright side of things but in this case... im sorry but there definitely IS a selection bias.
the way i see it is that nominations are really just that. they’re not awards. if you ask me, the Recording Academy had a tremendous amount of pressure on them to do something for BTS. they’ve seen the power that BTS holds for getting viewers. they wanted to use that for their advantage. this is proven by the way they put BTS last because they KNEW their viewership would drop the second the boys finished performing. just look at how the viewercount of the youtube pre-show stream went from 1 mil -> 500k, literally HALVED, after the Pop Duo/Group award was announced. the Grammys have been losing viewership year after year, so they needed BTS’ starpower. yes the voting committee might be made of many people, but that doesnt mean a group of people cant be biased as they vote (see any political election ever). honestly the grammys are less actual awards & more like a huge marketing ploy lol. by nominating them, they had another excuse to put the boys in more marketing material. what im saying is they most definitely would have nominated BTS without ever having the intention of giving them the grammy. these two things are not correlated.
also, the thing is, you need to keep in mind that racist and xenophobic actions have been going on LONG before BTS were ever on the scene. i’ve seen too many people focus on BTS’ loss to the point that they seem to not even recognize that this is nothing new. even if the boys DID win, the grammys would STILL be xenophobic & racist. black artists in particular have been snubbed time and time again by the Grammys. what other reason could there be for not nominating The Weeknd for ANYTHING this year even though his song has been such a favorite on the charts all year? in 2019, after winning his grammy, Tyler the Creator spoke out about how they keep forcing black artists into the rap/urban categories even when they are clearly making pop. he explains it well here. it's like a consolation prize while they save the big awards for the white people. if you're not from America or another largely-white country, then you might not know that this is a typical attitude towards POC: uplift or hire or nominate one person to say "hey we're diverse!" while not actually making any real efforts to be inclusive.
also do notice that most of the POC artists that won awards did so on the non-televised portion of the night, and they were forced to endure the absolute garbage that was Bill Burr, butchering their names & joking about it. so im sorry. i cant agree with you even though i wish these award shows were so much better than they are too 😔 (thanks for the love & for asking my thoughts on the matter! 💗)

It is no secret that Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) presidential campaign has been struggling of late. She has fallen in the polls (she is currently fourth in the RealClearPolitics averages in both Iowa and New Hampshire), dipped in fundraising and been pushed into an about-face on immediate Medicare-for-all (thereby disappointing some on the left).
Because she is a a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, you would think she would seize an opportunity now to show she would be a capable commander in chief. Instead, she issued multiple statements after the strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, the first a tweet Thursday in which she made the observation that “Soleimani was a murderer, responsible for the deaths of thousands, including hundreds of Americans,” and then, when the far left balked (we cannot say he was a murderer?), she issued a new series of tweets Friday that seemed to mimic Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) unvarnished anti-war tone. By Sunday, she was off touting her 100,000th selfie.
In an appearance on “Meet the Press,” Warren was a one-trick pony. All she could come up with was a “Wag the dog” explanation:
CHUCK TODD: So far from what you’ve learned, what do you believe was the right call here? SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN: Look, we are not safer because Donald Trump had Soleimani killed. We are much closer to the edge of war. The question is: Why now? Why not a month ago? Why not a month from now? And the administration simply can’t keep its story straight. It points in all different directions. . . .When people started asking questions about what had happened on the phone call between Donald Trump and the president of Ukraine and why aid to Ukraine had been stopped, the administration did the same thing. They pointed in all different directions and gave a whole lot of different answers. And of course what it turned out to be is that Donald Trump was doing what Donald Trump does. And that is he was advancing his own personal political interest. And I think the question people reasonably ask —CHUCK TODD: Do you think that’s happening here? SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN: I think the question people reasonably ask is, “Next week Donald Trump faces the start potentially of an impeachment trial. And why now?” I think people are starting to ask, “Why now did he do this? Why not delay?” And why this one is so dangerous is that he is truly taking us right to the edge of war. And that is something that puts us at risk. It puts the Middle East at risk. It puts the entire world at risk. . . . CHUCK TODD: It sounds like you believe — you want to investigate and find out if this is a motivation. SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN: Well, I think that people are asking, “Why this moment?” You know, as I said, the administration can’t keep its story straight. And in the case of Ukraine, it was all about protecting Donald Trump’s skin.
Now, she may be right that Trump is looking for a distraction from impeachment, but that’s an argument her Twitter followers can advance. She is supposed to be auditioning for commander in chief and providing insight into how she would confront national security issues.
Contrast that with former South Bend, Ind., mayor Pete Buttigieg, who appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union”:
Jake Tapper: Mayor Pete, thanks so much for joining us. After the strike you called Qassim Suleimani, the Iranian general who was killed, you called him a threat to the safety and security of the United States. So are you saying that President Trump deserves some credit for the strike? Pete Buttigieg: No, not until we know whether this was a good decision and how this decision was made, and the president has failed to demonstrate that. The secretary of State just now, when asked whether this strike prevented directly an attack, he did not prove, he did not demonstrate, he did not even claim that the answer was yes. Now, let’s be clear — Qassim Suleimani was a bad figure. He has American blood on his hands. None of us should shed a tear for his death. But just because he deserved it doesn’t mean it was the right strategic move. This is about consequences. This is one of the most volatile places in the world and we need answers on how this decision was reached, whether there was an alternative and whether the president has thought through the consequences — in particular for American lives, not just the troops who are on planes going to the Middle East right now, but US citizens around the world whose lives may be at risk because of the fallout from this action. Until we get answers on that, then this move is questionable to say the least. Jake Tapper: The chairman of the Joint Chiefs has said that there was compelling intelligence of a significant campaign of violence that was going to be leveled against Americans within days, weeks, or months. If you were commander in chief and had the chairman of the Joint Chiefs who was bringing you information like that, do you think you would have ordered the strike? Pete Buttigieg: I would never hesitate to use force if it was necessary in order to protect American lives. The question is, was it necessary and was it better than the alternative? It is not hard to believe that General Suleimani was in the middle of a campaign of violence. He was a walking campaign of violence. But when you’re dealing with the Middle East, you need to think about the next and the next and the next move, this is not checkers. And I’m not sure any of us really believe that this president and the people around him — especially given that he hasn’t even filled some of the key national security posts — is really going through all of the consequences of what could happen next. Even as we speak, it looks like there has been a suspension of anti-ISIS activities in Iraq just to deal with the fallout here. We need answers on whether this is part of a meaningful strategy, what choices were offered to the president and why he believed this was the best choice when we really haven’t seen the indication that it even served to prevent whatever attack they’re talking about. Remember, this was not a battlefield maneuver. We’re talking about a senior official. In what way did taking him out prevent an attack, and was it better than the alternatives? We just haven’t seen that. Let alone — Jake Tapper: Let me just ask you, some of your Democratic opponents including senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, who I’ll be talking to shortly, called the strike a “assassination.” They say it’s an assassination. Do you believe it was an assassination? Pete Buttigieg: I am not interested in the terminology. I’m interested in the consequences and I’m interested in the process. Did the president have legal authority to do this? Why wasn’t Congress consulted? It seems like more people at Mar-a-Lago heard about this than people in the United States Congress who are a coequal branch of government with a responsibility to consult. Which of our allies were consulted? The real-world effects of this are going to go far beyond the things that we’re debating today and we need answers quickly.
That sounds like someone who knows what questions to ask and is looking for solutions that protect Americans short of a full-scale war. A president is not expected to know all the answers, but he or she is supposed to have a realistic world view (understanding the numerous, complicated challenges we face, hire the best people, demand facts and options and then make an informed judgment). Voters should take note.

Legalized drug cartels operating in plain sight. Using some of their tax cuts to Buy American — Hire American.
The Senate Finance Committee will have the opportunity to question the CEOs of Bristol-Myers Squibb, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Pfizer, Sanofi, AbbVie, and AstraZeneca. A livestream of the testimony will be available at the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance’s website.
Competition and Innovation replaced by Corporate Welfare
Americans pay the highest drug prices in the world for absolutely no good reason. The drug companies will tell you that it’s because American consumers are financing “innovation,” but the real reason is that the U.S. doesn’t have price control laws that limit what drug companies can charge, unlike much of the world and every wealthy country. And U.S. senators, both Republicans and Democrats alike, are each raking in thousands of dollars every year from the pharmaceutical industry.
“The drug companies spent over $230 million lobbying last year alone.”
But how much do senators on the Finance Committee get directly from Big Pharma? Thanks to the website Open Secrets, we know exactly how much they got last year. And it’ll be helpful to keep that information in mind as these same people are questioning the drug company CEOs today.

Impeachment 101
If you follow the news even vaguely, you’re hearing a lot about impeachment, for good reasons. Since you’re hearing a lot about it, it’s worth understanding how it works. The civics class Cliff’s notes are well and good, but that’s not necessarily enough to separate signal from noise. Lotta scorching hot takes out there, people.
Tumblr media
Pictured: a widdle baby take, awwww!
The basic analogy is that impeachment of a public official is like an indictment in the criminal justice system. Once the official has been impeached, the process moves to a trial in the Senate. If the official is acquitted they go back to their jobs, just like defendants who are acquitted in a trial can go back to their lives. If they are convicted, the sentence is removal from office. This post focuses on presidential impeachment because, obviously, but constitutional impeachment proceedings apply to other federal officials as well. Vice presidents, cabinet members, and judges1 would be subject to the same process. In practice, though, presidential impeachments are unique because the public is also paying conscious attention. Whether or not the secretary of the interior gets to keep his job is not something most of us think about in our day-to-day lives, but if someone else suddenly becomes the president, we’re going to notice.
In American history, there have been consequential impeachment proceedings against three presidents: Andrew Johnson (1868), Richard Nixon (1974), and Bill Clinton (1998). Two of those presidents were impeached by the House of Representatives. No United States president has been removed by conviction in the Senate. That’s a really small sample size because it’s a drastic thing which shouldn’t happen very often. That means most of what we understand impeachment to be isn’t about laws or even formal congressional procedures. A lot of it is expectations, customs, and winging it.
Of the three historical examples up there, the most useful comparison is to the case of Richard Nixon. Johnson was too far in the past to be particularly helpful now. The Clinton impeachment is recent enough that most people at least vaguely remember it, but it’s not really helpful in understanding how events are unfolding now because it was pure bad faith bullshit. It was still an important event historically, but the process of trying to work through major existential questions is just different than the process of pulling stuff out of your ass. But the Nixon administration was modern enough to make sense to us. His criminality was, more or less, comparable to Individual-1’s. His fall even started with a break-in at the DNC.
In practice, the official beginning of a formal impeachment inquiry tends to come pretty late in the game, after months or even years of public hearings which convince people that impeachment is necessary. Congress started investigating Watergate before a special prosecutor was even hired. There’s a temptation to write stuff like this off unless a C-Span clip goes viral, but this step is really important in convincing voters that whatever’s being investigated is worth grinding the country to the halt and turfing out the head of state. And if Congress is acting in good faith, they’re trying to get really important information and explain it to the public, and that also takes a while – not least because if you actually need a court to enforce a subpoena for important information, you have to be able to prove that you tried everything else first.
That’s where we are now. If Democratic leadership had sworn a blood oath that they were 100% dead set on impeaching Individual-1, they would be doing exactly what they’re doing. There are legitimate and complicated tactical questions about how long we should spend here, what the scope of the investigations should be, if and when Democratic leadership should even publicly say what they’re doing. But what people are saying, which as of now is “we’re not there yet,” should not be confused with what they are doing, which has been a large and coordinated move in that direction.2
Impeachment proceedings formally start with the House Judiciary Committee approving a resolution to start an inquiry. This doesn’t necessarily amp up their investigative powers overall. (It may make some information easier to get – but the courts would have to decide that, which also takes time.) The most powerful tool remains lots and lots of public hearings, organized into a basic story that the national media can understand and convey. It’s important to do this only after laying the groundwork because a premature impeachment inquiry arguably gets in the way of a more comprehensive set of investigations, sucks up all the attention from other worthy investigations or political issues, and sets an unnecessarily narrow time frame to wrap up the investigation.
An impeachment resolution isn’t about “do we hate this dude’s face y/n?” but about whether they’ve committed treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. “High crimes and misdemeanors” are purposefully vague so that they can evolve with the times. While the impeachment process is in many ways analogous to criminal justice procedure, impeachable offenses are not necessarily crimes, and not all crimes are necessarily impeachable offenses. The Framers initially intended it to include things like cheating your way into office, or selling out the United States to a foreign power. The main offense on which different Congresses have historically agreed is obstruction of justice, and it makes sense: the most important part of the president’s job is to take care that the laws are faithfully executed, and obstructing justice is, you know, the opposite of that. In practice, an impeachable offense is whatever the House of Representatives says it is. The point is, a majority of the Judiciary Committee has to agree on a list of specific things that the president did which are bad enough to merit removal from office – kind of like the specific charges that a prosecutor brings against a criminal defendant. Things on that list are called articles of impeachment.
The one time in history that impeachment proceedings have resulted in a president actually leaving office, they only ever got this far. By the time the articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon were approved, the Watergate hearings had made it clear that the House was going to impeach him and Republican senators had seen enough to tell him that he would be convicted. That’s not a shortcut – those hearings took over a year – but it is a possibility.
If they approve the articles of impeachment, a majority of the House Judiciary Committee passes the resolution to the full House, which becomes like a grand jury. With a regular old majority vote, the House can impeach the president. Their presidency isn’t over, but it is damaged. Again, the criminal procedure analogy is useful: when someone gets indicted, that doesn’t mean they’ll be locked up immediately, but it does mean their life gets a lot more complicated for a while. If a majority of the House votes no, the process stops.
Once the president is impeached the process moves to the Senate, where there is a trial of the president. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is the judge, a few representatives from the House majority are the managers (ie, prosecutors), and the Senate is the jury. Evidence is heard, arguments are made, and eventually there is a vote to acquit or convict. If two-thirds of the Senate votes to convict, then the president is removed from office and the vice president is sworn in as president. Any less than that, the president is acquitted and everyone goes back to their jobs.
Under current circumstances, that two-thirds bar means that conviction and removal are effectively impossible. The Republicans are the majority in the Senate, and Senate Republicans are completely indifferent to national security, democratic legitimacy, the rule of law, and basic morality. They have been showing us who they are for years; it is way past time to believe them.
There are a lot of legitimate arguments that impeachment in the House is worth doing anyway, and there are a lot of legitimate reasons to be reluctant. Unfortunately, you need to be especially wary of cynicism, fatalism, and bothsidesism right now: a lot of commentators out there are misguided, irresponsible, or outright dishonest enough to insinuate that Democrats could stop this Trump nightmare immediately but they just aren’t because ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . If that were possible, it would clearly be the right thing to do. Because it’s not possible, the way forward is far less clear.
There’s no cheat code to get us through this quickly. We can’t afford to get used to this, and we can’t afford to get overwhelmed by it. A couple of things you can do if it helps you stay grounded:
If you’re ready for impeachment, call your member of Congress and let them know.
Use whatever platform you have to spread digestible stories about Trump regime corruption and obstruction, or of course any constructive arguments on the subject of impeachment. Think carefully before sharing impatient attacks on elected Democrats, though, because what we need them to do is hard enough and weakening them with infighting makes it even harder.
1 For example, if someone on the Supreme Court was found to have told dozens of bald-faced lies to the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearing in order to cover up serious wrongdoing and openly threatened to abuse his position to retaliate against anyone who opposed him because of said misconduct, he could also be impeached. Just clarifying IN CASE A MOTHERFUCKER THINKS WE FORGOT.
2 I’m stressing this point because …. look, I don’t blame anyone for being emotional right now, I’m just saying, if a #Take boils down to “BoTH sIDeS aRe DoInG nOthInG, dEmS dOn’t CarE, NANcy pelOsi DoeSnT gET It,” you may want to approach it with some skepticism.

fiddler on the roof, our main actor,,, playing the main dude,,,, cant sing and doesnt have rhythm,,,, director at the last minute got rid of the set,,, the set builders built and entire amazing set,,, we just used a table for the show just a singular table
please kill me (do it)
we hire some guy in to help teach the newbies,,,, he changes the entire soundboard set up that my co head tech and i spent hours meticulously setting up because everything has to have an individual channel otherwise its gonna be a disaster
guy changed it all and didnt tell us
he just said it would help
day before the show,,,, we were still figuring out what the fuck is happening,,, guy had put the entire orchestra into one singular channel
dude,,,, every section in the orchestra is meant to have its own channel what the fuck
i had multiple breakdowns because there was feedback, we couldnt hear some of the band, i dont wanna start with the mics
showtime
we had hired some mics and a transformer thing for all the recievers and it shat out opening show
it just stopped, we had to open it up, duct tape it into a really specific position,,, this is so damgerous pls dont ever do this
we survived (idk am i really alive at this point)
show was fine (no one died thats all i can ask for)
oh wait yeah remember those people i mentioned at the beginning who joined the team but didnt wanna put effort in,,, one of them was assistant stage manager,,, they just didnt show up
what the hell
thank u, next
new show its like idk june now i guess, the school loved putting last minute events on us and didnt tell us (ooooh we have a tech email now and a form to ask us about events ur welcome @ my high school the team would be a mess without all the updates myself and co head tech did)
last minute events are getting on my nerves and i literally started missing so much class due to tech that my teachers are getting annoyed and i'm failing school
hello july holidays u couldnt have come sooner
august talent show dont talk to me i was in it and i feel awful for how much stress my team were under because the people organising just didnt do anything, my team literally organised most of it
dun dun dun!!! we got new gear!!!!
it doesnt work
well it works sometimes its all wifi based so we dont have to manually set up for assemblies and conferences anymore (hell yeah!) (if the school had functioning wifi.....)
ooooh time to announce the new head techs so we can train them and tell them how to deal with staff and manage everything
uh oh actually chief we're going to take the only freedom u have left as the tech team and open the leadership role up to students who dont do tech
i almost dropped dead
see my school did this thing,,,, if we had a complaint about tech or how wenwere treated they told us to tell them
oh boy did i tell them a lot this year about the shit i dealt with from people
they did nothing but silence our cries for help
so new head tech time the accuse us of the fact we could be picking favourites
excuse me no, i would be more inclined to let everyone in on the process if we had someone who showed up to every meeting, every set up and every event but no, we dont get that luxury like the other committees get.
for a whole month we had meetings with different staff members going back and forth with our battle to regain the onky freedom we had and literally all this was doing was stalling me and co head tech it did nothing
but we carried on saying the same thing in every meeting until at one point i broke down in the middle of class because i was behind, i was failing still, i was getting treated like shit, and the tech team was going to fall apart
they gave in and let us help them pick
they then realised actually the way we have always done it works
tech party!!! we crowned the new head techs in november and officially resigned as tech leaders
prizegiving went flawlessly and i was given a scholarship that my school hands out for contributing to the school community, (i was the first non head student to get it)
i guess tech 2018 wasnt as much of a shit show as tech 2017

Less than three months after former President Donald Trump left the White House, the race to succeed him atop the Republican Party is already beginning.
Trumps former secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, has launched an aggressive schedule, visiting states that will play a pivotal role in the 2024 primaries, and he has signed a contract with Fox News Channel. Mike Pence, Trumps former vice-president, has started a political advocacy group, finalized a book deal and later this month will give his first speech since leaving office in South Carolina. And Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been courting donors, including in Trumps backyard, with a prominent speaking slot before the former president at a GOP fundraising retreat dinner this month at Mar-a-Lago, the Florida resort where Trump now lives.
Trump ended his presidency with such a firm grip on Republican voters that party leaders fretted he would freeze the field of potential 2024 candidates, delaying preparations as he teased another run. Instead, many Republicans with national ambitions are openly laying the groundwork for campaigns as Trump continues to mull his own plans.

Theyre raising money, making hires and working to bolster their name recognition. The moves reflect both the fervour in the party to reclaim the White House and the reality that mounting a modern presidential campaign is a yearslong endeavour.
Who Is Trump Reaching
If the former president proves to be a kingmaker in the 2022 midterms, his allies say he may seek reelection in 2024.
The Republican Party is just a name, Steve Bannon told me last week. I had called him to ask about the influence he believes his old boss still carries inside the GOP. The bulk of it is a populist, nationalist party led by Donald Trump. As for the rest of it? The Republican Party, pre-2016, are the modern Whigs, he added, referring to the national party that collapsed in the mid-19th century over divided views on slavery.
Bannon might not be the most reliable barometer of the political moment, but some of Trumps fiercest Republican critics share his belief that the former president maintains a strong grip on his party. He sparked this , and now others are going ahead and taking the baton of batshittery, Representative Adam Kinzinger, a Republican from Illinois and a staunch Trump critic, told me last week.
After losing badly in 2020, the GOP wants candidates who can win in 2022. But the partys biggest star seems less concerned with fellow Republicans electability than with their fealty. Trump aims to punish incumbents who voted for his impeachment and reward those who support the culture war hes stoked. Republicans want to talk about Joe Bidens liberal leanings and how inflation is making life more expensive for most Americans. Trump wants to talk about himself and his personal woes.
What will voters want to hear?

One of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for his role in inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol announced Thursday night he will not seek reelection in Ohio next year.
U.S. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, a former NFL player with a once-bright political future, cited his two young children for his decision and noted “the chaotic political environment that currently infects our country.” He is the first Latino to represent Ohio in Congress.
“While my desire to build a fuller family life is at the heart of my decision, it is also true that the current state of our politics, especially many of the toxic dynamics inside our own party, is a significant factor in my decisions,” Gonzalez said in his statement.
Gonzalez, 36, would have faced Max Miller in the 2022 primary. Trump has endorsed Miller, his former White House and campaign aide, as part of his bid to punish those who voted for his impeachment or blocked his efforts to overturn the results of the election. Trump rallied for Miller this summer.

He was re-elected in the 2006 South Carolina gubernatorial election, and consequently served as Governor of South Carolina from 2003 until 2011.
Former South Carolina Gov. announced Sunday that he is running for president as a Republican, becoming the latest to challenge President Trump in the GOP primaries.
In a series of tweets, Sanford explained the reasons why he was entering the 2020 race as a republican:
I am compelled to enter the Presidential Primary as a Republican for several reasons the most important of which is to further and foster a national debate on our nations debt, deficits and spending.
We have a storm coming that we are neither talking about nor preparing for given that we, as a country, are more financially vulnerable than we have ever been since our Nations start and the Civil War. We are on a collision course with financial reality. We need to act now.
As I have watched the Democrat debates I hear no discussion, or even recognition, of what is occurring. Instead I hear a laundry list of new unpaid for political promises. On the Republican side, spending is up well above President Obama.

Donald Trump is endorsing candidates in party primary elections all the way down the ballot, a level of involvement thats virtually unheard of among recent former presidents.
Whats remarkable about Trumps picks isnt just their breadth hes endorsed close to 40 candidates so far in 23 states its their seemingly random quality. Whats even more unusual is that the political goals of the GOPs de facto leader arent necessarily in sync with his own party in some cases, they are starkly at odds.
If theres a thread running through nearly all of Trumps endorsements, it is his habit of rewarding allies and punishing enemies. So far, at the national level, hes backed primary challengers to four House GOP incumbents and one sitting senator all of whom voted for impeachment.
In Georgia, where three of the states top Republicans have incurred Trumps wrath for resisting his efforts to overturn President Joe Bidens win there, Trump has been especially active.

Sen Josh Hawley Of Missouri
Though controversial, Hawley, 41, is a fundraising machine and hes quickly made a name for himself. The blowback Hawley faced for objecting to Bidens Electoral College win included a lost book deal and calls for him to resign from students at the law school where he previously taught. His mentor, former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, said that supporting Hawley was the biggest mistake Ive ever made in my life.
Still, he brought in more than $1.5 million between Jan. 1 and March 5, according to Axios, and fundraising appeals in his name from the National Republican Senatorial Committee brought in more cash than any other Republican except NRSC Chair Sen. Rick Scott of Florida. Just because youre toxic in Washington doesnt mean you cant build a meaningful base of support nationally.
One Republican strategist compared the possibility of Hawley 2024 to Cruz in 2016. Hes not especially well-liked by his colleagues , but hes built a national profile for himself and become a leading Republican voice opposed to big technology companies.
Hawley and his wife, Erin, have three children. He got his start in politics as Missouri attorney general before being elected to the Senate in 2018. Hawley graduated from Stanford and Yale Law.
Trump Endorses Republican To Run Against Rep Liz Cheney In Wyoming
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday endorsed Wyoming attorney Harriet Hageman in her expected primary challenge against Republican Rep. Liz Cheney.
I strongly endorse Republican House of Representatives Candidate Harriet Hageman from Wyoming who is running against warmonger and disloyal Republican, Liz Cheney, Trump said in a statement.
Harriet is a fourth-generation daughter of Wyoming, a very successful attorney, and has the support and respect of a truly great U.S. Senator, Wyomings own Cynthia Lummis. Harriet Hageman adores the Great State of Wyoming, is strong on Crime and Borders, powerfully supports the Second Amendment, loves our Military and our Vets, and will fight for Election Integrity and Energy Independence . Unlike RINO Liz Cheney, Harriet is all in for America First. Harriet has my Complete and Total Endorsement in replacing the Democrats number one provider of sound bites, Liz Cheney. Make America Great Again!
Trump has long opposed Cheney, one of a handful of Republicans to vote twice to impeach Trump, and Politico reports that backing Hageman will test his ability to get candidates into Congress.
The left-leaning political website also reported that as a final step before officially announcing her campaign later this week, Hageman resigned Tuesday as one of Wyomings members of the Republican National Committee.

Democrats: Texas voting bill marks dark day for democracy
Republicans who have embraced baseless claims about the 2020 election being stolen are now running to serve as the chief elections officials in several states, a move that could give them significant power over election processes.
The campaigns, first detailed by Politico last week, underscore a new focus to take control of election administration. Secretaries of state, who are elected to office in partisan contests that have long been overlooked, wield enormous power over election rules in their state, are responsible for overseeing election equipment, and are a key player in certifying making official election results.
Winning secretary of state offices across the country would give conspiracy theorists enormous power to wreak havoc in the 2024 presidential election, including potentially blocking candidates who win the most votes from taking office.
This is an indication of wanting, basically, to have a man inside who can undermine, said Sylvia Albert, the director of voting and elections at Common Cause, a government watchdog group. Clearly these are not people who believe in the rule of law. And people who run our government need to follow the rule of law. So it is concerning that they are running.
Former Us Ambassador To The United Nations Nikki Haley
Local GOP Responds To 3 Republicans Running Against President Trump
Haley, 49, stands out in the potential pool of 2024 Republican candidates by her resume. She has experience as an executive as the former governor of South Carolina and foreign policy experience from her time as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Haley was a member of the Republican Partys 2010 tea party class. A former South Carolina state representative, her long shot gubernatorial campaign saw its fortunes improve after she was endorsed by Sarah Palin. Haley rocketed from fourth to first just days after the endorsement, and she went on to clinch the nomination and become her states first female and first Indian-American governor.
As governor, she signed a bill removing the Confederate flag from the state Capitol following the white supremacist attack at the Emanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston. She left office in 2017 to join the Trump administration as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and Quinnipiac poll found she was at one point the most popular member of Trumps foreign policy team.
I think that shes done a pretty masterful job in filling out her resume, said Robert Oldendick, a professor and director of graduate studies at the University of South Carolinas department of political science.
Haley criticized Trump following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by his supporters, saying she was disgusted by his conduct. Oldendick said he thought her pretty pointed criticism of the president will potentially cause some problems.

One thing Scott has going for him that other potential 2024 contenders do not is a bunch of their endorsements. Scotts up for reelection next year, and in an ad kicking off his campaign released last week, Republicans including Cruz, Pompeo, Haley and Pence all backed his candidacy. Scott is positioning himself as a Trump-friendly conservative. In his ad, he included a clip of Trump calling him a friend of mine, and at a rally for his reelection, Scott said he wanted to make sure this wasnt a centrist crowd after asking them to boo Biden louder, according to The State.

The set of advisers around Trump now is a familiar mix of his top 2020 campaign aides and others who have moved in and out of his orbit over time. They include Miller, Susie Wiles, Bill Stepien, Justin Clark, Corey Lewandowski and Brad Parscale.
While his schedule isn’t set yet, according to Trump’s camp, his coming stops are likely to include efforts to help Ohio congressional candidate Max Miller, a former White House aide looking to win a primary against Rep. Anthony Gonzales, who voted to impeach Trump this year; Jody Hice, who is trying to unseat fellow Republican Brad Raffensperger as Georgia secretary of state after Raffensperger defied Trump and validated the state’s electoral votes; and Alabama Senate candidate Mo Brooks, according to Trump’s camp.
Trump’s ongoing influence with Republican voters helps explain why most GOP officeholders stick so closely to him. Republicans spared him a conviction in the Senate after the House impeached him for stoking the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, House GOP leaders have made it clear that they view his engagement as essential to their hopes of retaking the chamber, and Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., was deposed as Republican Conference Chair this year over her repeated rebukes of Trump.
Those numbers suggest that Trump could be in a strong position to win a Republican primary but lose the general election in 3½ years. A former Trump campaign operative made that case while discussing Trump’s ambitions.

With 1000 Breweries and Counting Black is Beautiful Shows Strength in Numbers But It Doesnt Replace Long-Term Action
Tumblr media
In June, in San Antonio, Texas, Weathered Souls Brewing Co. launched Black is Beautiful, a beer collaboration and campaign with a mission to “bridge the gap” and “provide a platform to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone of any color.” In three months, the initiative has nearly 1,200 participating breweries on board in 50 states and 21 countries. It’s one of the fastest-growing craft beer collaborations to date to raise awareness of the injustices that Black, Indigenous, and people of color face every day.
Participating breweries commit to creating a tasty stout beer, and agree to donate the proceeds from the sale of the beer to organizations that support equity and inclusion and police brutality reform. Unlike collaborations such as Sierra Nevada’s Resilience Butte County Proud IPA, which raised funds for communities impacted by the most destructive wildfire in California history, there’s more to participation than a one-time donation. Breweries must commit to long-term equity work, whether in their local communities or within their own breweries. Or at least, they’re expected to.
While the response to Black is Beautiful has been overwhelmingly positive, it has left some industry members wondering whether this initiative and others like it will help the communities they claim they are supporting.
Black is Beautiful: A Catalyst for Change
In addition to the many participating breweries around the world, the fanfare around Black is Beautiful has inspired support that far surpasses the beer itself. From branded glassware, virtual 5K runs, beer trading groups, and more, the beer collaboration that centers on supporting social justice causes and ending police brutality has been received with much excitement. Marcus Baskerville, co-founder of Weathered Souls Brewing Co., has been blown away by the response. “When I started the idea, I figured that there might have been 100 people in all this. The fact that we actually reached 1,000 is a very humbling experience,” he says.
Some breweries have implemented programs that ensure ongoing support beyond their monetary donations. For Baskerville, there are many paths for long-term support. He says some breweries have started internships, such as Carton Brewing, and DaleView Biscuits & Beer, offering education and experience to BIPOC; and that the Texas Craft Brewers Guild reached out to him about efforts to form a Diversity Committee. “At the end of the day, the beer itself is just a conversation piece, and the important stuff is what happens after,” Baskerville says.
One brewery committing to long-term effort is Second Chance Beer Co. in San Diego, which announced early in the initiative that its Black is Beautiful release would be an annual event. Proceeds from each bottle will go to the local chapter of the ACLU. Virginia Morrison, co-founder of Second Chance Beer Co., says that she’s a firm believer in change coming from within. “Racism is institutional, it’s educational, it’s historical,” she says. “There’s so much, it’s so pervasive. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon. So that’s why this is going to be an annual commitment to us, because this needs to stay top of mind.”
Second Chance has applied to be a member of the ACLU of San Diego to facilitate a longer-term connection. Morrison also says she’s connected with local organizations that help formerly incarcerated individuals find employment, and that Second Chance has started a blind recruitment process in their hiring. “I’m working to make sure that it’s feasible for us to do, and really gets us to the goal of eliminating unconscious bias. Change from within, that’s also us,” Morrison says.
In an email to Black is Beautiful participants, Baskerville recently acknowledged supporters for their accomplishments in only three months of the collaboration, and that there’s much more to come. “We are making HISTORY people, and it’s a very humbling experience to be a part of it,” he wrote. “Every single one of you are making a difference for your communities.”
Problematic participation
While participation in Black is Beautiful is open to everyone, it has also attracted breweries that have track records of not supporting the Black community. The most glaring example is Founders Brewing Co., which was embroiled in a scandal and racial discrimination lawsuit starting in 2018.
Toni Boyce, an engineer, writer, and Certified Cicerone partnered with Fermentum PR on the webinar “Making A Statement” to educate breweries and other businesses in the craft beer industry on crafting authentic messages and how to communicate around sensitive social issues. In the webinar, Boyce raised concerns about problematic participation in social justice movements or working with marginalized communities when there has been a history of harm. (Disclosure: Toni Boyce is also a VinePair contributor.)
Speaking with VinePair, Boyce shared that there should be a more selective process for brewery participation in Black is Beautiful, and that Founders should not have taken up space in the conversation. “They should have sat this one out, in my opinion; they have too much of a longstanding history,” Boyce says. “This would have been a time to reflect, have your reckoning, and do some internal work rather than push yourself in the spotlight.”
Regarding Founders participation, Baskerville spoke directly with representatives of the brewery before their signing on. He took the opportunity to air his grievances about their past behaviors, and sees this participation in Black is Beautiful as a way for Founders to correct that harm, allowing them to participate. Baskerville says that while he knows he needs to keep an eye on breweries such as Founders, the craft beer community needs to make space for organizations to change. “If we get rid of everybody who wants to be an ally, then what are we going to have left? So until they show me differently, we’re gonna appreciate the participation and the help,” he says.
Boyce refers to Founders’ participation as “cognitive dissonance” and adds that just making a beer does not erase consistent harm they have caused. “That’s too much for me to reconcile, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way,” Boyce says. “You have to be willing to address those things, and none of those people have owned up to what they did.” Along with Boyce, many fear there may be issues with breweries following through on donation commitments, recalling that Sierra Nevada had issues receiving proceeds from Resilience Butte County Proud IPA. While the beer had raised millions of dollars, the brewery had not received half of the proceeds from participating breweries six months after the collaboration.
Baskerville recently reached out to participating breweries to remind them of the commitments to the collaboration, and distributed a survey to capture information such as beer release dates and donation amounts. While dollar amounts that breweries donated weren’t tracked initially, and Baskerville at first requested that a portion of proceeds go to fund racial injustice, Weathered Souls has since expanded to asking that 100 percent be donated to these causes. Weathered Souls is donating to the Know Your Rights Camp, and breweries can choose an organization local to them or one that is national.
‘This is not a one-time event.’
Boyce believes that successful brewery participation starts with how a beer collaboration is organized. “You have to set clear parameters and vet the people who are going to participate and be listed on your website as participants,” Boyce says. This creates more accountability, something Boyce believes is especially necessary to the Black is Beautiful mission. “This is not like a fire that just happened, and we need to get these folks back to normal and get them new homes and places to stay, [to] rebuild things and move on,” Boyce says. “This is not a one-time event.”
Black is Beautiful does not have a hard end date. “We know that inequality and racism aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon,” Baskerville says. “So, it’s more of a get it in where you can fit it in. We know people plan their production schedules out months ahead of time. If you can fit it in six months from now, and that’s when you can participate in this initiative, then please do.”
Baskerville knows that combating social justice and police brutality cannot be done in a short time period, and he invites more breweries to join in on the effort. The efforts around the Black is Beautiful collaboration have created a lot of momentum and sparked many conversations around racism, police brutality, and inclusion inside and out of the craft beer industry. Collaborations with a social justice component require conscious participation, with an understanding that the benefit is more than just brewing a beer and selling it.
The work does not end when the check is sent, but when participating communities honor their commitments to long-term equity and inclusion in their breweries, their local communities, and in the broader craft beer industry. Actions speak louder than words, or louder than the beer they produce. Those who don’t embrace the requirements to participate and take a stand as allies show that their efforts are just transactional.

STARSCREAM
Hm.. well that does sound like a bit of a “him” problem..
Tumblr media
After a few moments of careful consideration— or at the very least, enough time to make it seem like he was being careful with his consideration— he gives a small nod. “…Right, yes, fine. I shall look it over.” A hand reaches to take hold of the datapad, beginning to scan through the list of names. “And Good, being impartial over the previous sides is absolutely key to everything I’m working towards.” he states before pausing a moment. “..we’re working towards.” Right, right, Rattrrap had said something about how using “we” instead of “I” often sounded better for when he speaks. It’s something he’s been working on. His mindset was still hardwired to focus on achievement and proving his own worth, so HE came first, others came second. Mostly a survival instinct- if he doesnt prove himself, would he not be easier to kill off? To be disposed of? Trying to undo that habit is a bit harder than he expected.
Tumblr media
Perceptor isn't entirely sure what to make of Starscream. He can't imagine how his peers might feel — he was fortunate enough to remain as a non-combatant through most of the war so his run-ins with the former Seeker were near non-existent. But they've entered a new age, and if he is willing and actively working towards change then he should be give the courtesy of a good faith interaction. Whether or not he succeeds is an entirely different ordeal. Still, he's grateful he's being taken serious about this. He'd hate to return to a near non-existent community. And if he has anything to say about Starscream's slip-up he doesn't voice it. Change typically doesn't happen over night. He nods, understanding, " I must warn that a few of these names may be... difficult to work with. If you can assemble an ethics committee as well as hire a director it should ease the burden. So long as you choose those who work well with others for such important positions it should make the task of coming together easier. "

♒ - from the Yuz
Push this fucker into a pool || [ Open ] || @devilallalong
There’s a committee somewhere in the world or some other universe that tallies up and categorizes the stupid shit does. There’s enough instances that they need a few members, and there’s talk of hiring a secretary to help handle the paperwork. But that’s neither here nor there (its another fucking plane of existence) because this doesnt fall into a section of righteousness.
This is just Yuzuki messing around with Wylan.
And who would blame the woman? He takes this sort of thing so well and seems nigh impervious to hardship that it should be coming as second nature. Besides, it’s a hot day and they’re already in swimsuits. Wylan is strutting a nice set of trunks while accompanying Yuzuki at one of the pools at the Palms resort. She’s grabbing a lot of attention with her bikini, but given how touchy they are with one another, she’s fortunately left alone by other hopeful suitors. So, ok, maybe the committee is biased, and maybe this is payback for all the little touches to her hips, behind, and chest. Maybe!
The maneuver is pulled off like a professional, Wylan is mid conversation discussing some of the stories from when he worked part time as a kid, gesturing his hands and making silly voices. And while Yuzuki is enjoying the conversation, Wylan has decided to wander rather close to the edge. Without warning, she shoves him in the side hard into the water.
Tumblr media
Wylan goes in like a little bitch. A great splash with a fair amount of flailing before he lunges out of the water, snatching for her ankles. But Yuzuki is too fast! Leaping out of the way and bellowing victorious laughter at his expense. Wylan glares daggers, tapping his finger on the coping.
“Get your butt over here so I can drag you down.”
“Fuck that!”
Wylan leaps out of the pool, and Yuzuki takes off.
This continues another five minutes before they’re asked to leave.

All The World’s a KISS Stage (well, it should be...)
Im not alone in thinking that the greatest picture ever taken in rock and roll history is the picture that is the gatefold of the 1977 double album KISS “Alive 2″. This picture totally defines what it would be like to see KISS in concert. I have been to thousands of concerts and none will ever surpass my first KISS concert two years after this iconic photo was taken. I have a numbered and signed print of this photo (by the photographer), waiting for the right frame to put it in.
Tumblr media
now, Im very aware that this photo is staged. it did NOT happen during a show, but I can tell you that ALL OF THAT PHOTO HAPPENED IN THEIR CONCERTS!! It happened when they started in 74, and if you go to a KISS concert today, this photo will come to life. Excitiement like this photo is what I look for in concerts I see today. Some bands do know how to put on a stage show...Rush, Pink Floyd, Flaming Lips . In fact, 5 months after my first KISS live experience, I saw Parliment/Funkadelic who learned from KISS on how to make a concert stage work with great music.
Tumblr media
So, it got me thinking...what if KISS and their stage show were a part of every other artists’ concert. The WORST concert I have ever attended was Crosby, Stills and Nash. You know why?? here...
Tumblr media
look at that!! How boring is THAT! Seriously, I know they are icons and all that but..what propells people to shell out a ton of money just to see 3 guys under three spotlights strumming on a guitar? Now, if they even had just one member of KISS on that stage, or a tiny explosion..WOW!! That would take it up another notch. So ASICMIND is proud to present to you some unearthed nuggets of music history...artists that have influenced KISS, or were influenced by KISS at some point in their career.
Tumblr media
We all know James Brown was the godfather of soul, but did you know that he was also the godfather of Gene Simmons? Thats right. And on several occasions, back in the early years of KISS, you would see James Brown front and center at a KISS concert. And Gene would always give him his propers ( thats what is was called back then..propers...look it up). Gene would say, “I’d like to dedicate this one to the godfather of my soul, James Brown...this is Black Diamond”. It was at these shows that Gene got the idea for crazy dance moves for KISS.

Both Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley will tell you that when they started KISS, they wanted to be The Beatles. They wated to be BIGGER than The Beatles. Both bands were a quartet, made up of a bassist and a guitarist that seemed to be the leaders, and a second guitarist and a drummer who contributed their fair share (although Gene will argue that all the way to court about Peter and Ace). KISS had to make themselves different from The Beatles. The makeup, the outrageous costumes, the fire breathing, bloodspitting, and 2 hour pyrotechnic extravaganza of a show didnt set them apart enough from The Beatles. What did they do? They tried out a fifth member to join KISS that just so happened to be a big influence on The Beatles. Needless to say, Ravi Shankar didnt cut it because he just sat there.

In 1968, Tiny Tim peaked with his rendition of “Tip Toe Thru The Tulips”, his number one hit that only charted at number seventeen. It was his staple. He was only known for that song and playing the ukulele. He wasnt even tiny! He was over 6 feet tall! After years of touring for that one song, he finally decided to change it up a bit in 76 by hiring KISS and the whole stage show to back him on his “1776-1976 Ukulele States Of America” World Tour. He died of a heart attack 20 years later.

Everyone thinks that it was comic Sam Kinison that merged comedy and hard rock. There had always been comedians that blended music into their act. Henny Youngman, Jack Benny, The Smothers Brothers..all acts that incorprated wholesome music with their comedy to give their joke an added punchline, if the music itself wasnt the joke. Richard Pryor, on the other hand, had another idea. His “That Ni**ers Crazy” tour featured a hard rock backing band consisting of four guys in whiteface wearing S&M clothing...who were they? You guessed it...
Tumblr media
1979 brought change for KISS. They had just released the album “Dynasty” which saw KISS “progress” with the music industry by recording a disco song, “I Was Made For Lovin You”. While it did suprisingly well on the charts, it didnt fair well with most of their fans, and The KISS Army was dwindling down to cub scout status. They tried a number of things... Im not sure why they agreed to back Frank Sinatra on a tour, but they were fired after the second performance when Gene got blood on Sinatras tuxedo.
Tumblr media
Nobody tours like Loretta Lynn. She has one tour bus just for herself, a second tour bus for her dresses and three pick-up trucks for her band. One tour, Loretta Lynn was traveling from a show in Fargo, North Dakota to the next evenings show in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Her bus and the bus full of her dresses arrive the next afternoon at the venue but the pick up trucks werent there. She figured they had stopped to eat (as it was a Wednesday, the day Loretta lets you eat), but as showtime was approaching a few hours later, the band still hadnt arrived. Well, as her opening act started to play, about twelve 18 wheelers pull up. It was the crew of KISS and they were playing the next night. She politely asked the crew if any of them could play country. None of them could, but they said Paul and Gene always blasted her music on the tour bus and they were coming to see the show. Maybe KISS could be your backup band. Sure enough, when the 5 stretch limos arrived to bring the four members of KISS to the show, they heard the news and agreed to not only perform, but let her use their stage. It was a magical night. The photo shows the exact moment she realized what happened to the band. “Oh my God, they ran out of gas because I forgot to give them their per diem!”.
Tumblr media
“Cant Touch Kiss” was the working title for MC Hammer, as he was a huge KISS fan back in the day. One night, Hammer was watching a KISS show from side stage. They started playing “I Was Made For Lovin You”, and Hammer couldnt help himself. He came flying out on the stage, parachute pants and all, and started dancing. After the show, Gene pulled him aside and said “If you ever pull a stunt like that again, or try and use our name in a song, Ill sue your ass so fast, you’ll be broke before you reach triple platinum”...and, now you know what happened to MC Hammer.
Tumblr media
Believe it or not, for all of their evil “devil music” and demonic stage shows, their biggest hit was a ballad by drummer Peter Criss, “Beth”, a song with vocals, piano, and a string section. When “Beth” was performed, Peter would come out and sit on a stool and throw roses out to the ladies in the crowd while he sang against a backing music track. One night the band wanted to mix it up a bit. They re-arranged “Beth” to be done by the four members, and Gene called his old buddy from Hebrew School, Barbara Streisand, to come sit in on the one song. She agreed, but only if she could make some changes. That night, and only that night, the song “Beth” became known as “Babs”.
Tumblr media
If you have ever seen or heard an interview with Gene Simmons, he is all about the swagger..he is all about being cool. He is cool  when flying 50 feet in the air and blood flowing from his mouth. He thinks he invented cool, so much so that he tried to trademark the word “cool”. He was denied because another artist, Miles Davis, already had it. Gene invited Miles to a KISS show. Miles arrived with his trumpet and walked out on stage unannounced. Gene ran over to him and whispered, “Miles my man, I only invited you to watch, not play”. Miles looked at him and said, “dude, shut the fuck up start playin “Love Gun”. Thats my jam”.
Tumblr media
Charlie Daniels wrote the song “Devil Went Down To Georgia” based on seeing a KISS concert in Dahlonega, Georgia. He truly thought that they were the band brought there by Satan himself. Years later, Charlie Daniels still tours with that song being the only one anyone ever recognizes. He makes more money from jukebox residuals than touring. Now with YouTube and all, who needs jukeboxes, so this past year he was invited by Paul Stanley to perform “Devil Went Down to Georgia” at that same venue in Dahlonega. No shocker hear, Paul played the part of the devil. Not sure how they got a stripper pole on that small stage.
Tumblr media
A few years ago, KISS was finally inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (RRHOF) One of the traditions at the award ceremony is to have someone who was very influenced by, or influential to the nominee introduce them at the award cerfemony and perform with them.. Well that list was too long to pick one person, so the committee pondered on it. Who or what means the most to KISS? The answer...money. At this point during the meeting, the secretary of the RRHOF had just left the room to take a call about her sons babysitter being sick so she had to leave and pick up the boy from the bus stop. Not asking what else was said in the meeting, she went ahead and booked Eddie Money to play with KISS at the ceremony. To this day, KISS doesnt even know why but they made the best of it... Eddie Money blew a blood vessel that night.
Tumblr media
Today, KISS is still a major influence all over the performing arts. Even the cast of the broadway sensation “Hamilton” has special once a month matinee performance with KISS as the pit band.
Tumblr media
..and even Paul Stanley is a huge “Hamilton” fan..
Tumblr media
Today, THE hottest ticket is Adele. No band on stage, no pyro, just ...her...and that voice... people are paying thousands to see her/hear her. but..she knows... she gets it.. she needs to figure out something to boost that stage. Well, she is on the right track.. recently she got former KISS guitarist, Vinnie Vincent who has been a recluse and not been seen in years to come and play guitar for her. He asked if he could wear the makeup and outfit for old times sake. She said, “Sure, as long as you dont spill me coffee, mate”.
Tumblr media
Get it?
