Sometimes I'm tired about fandoms handling "daddy/mommie issues". Of course it can be used as a joke but with times it trivialises the story and traumatism the character went trough because of their parents as if it was just teenage crisis/rebellion against autority and not some fucking serious issues.
Of course some are going to tell it's for the joke but most of the time, it changes the fandom's perception of the character little by little and when you want to read post/fanfic/meta about a canon version of the character with this fanon approach it gets frustrating.
#i was thinking about Sephiroth who is often described as a mommy issues character when he has tones of reason to be the way he is#his backstory is like monstruous and the fact that he did not snap before Nibelheim is a fucking miracle#and I say that as someone who doesn't particularly like sane!Seph I'm here for the bad guy#but it's not just him it's countless of characters whose actions are trivialised by the fandom and it leads to so many bad faith takes#yes i'm salty#it was the same with Kylo who resisted for a so long time when so many would have fall way before that#and everyone are like DaDdY iSsUeS
