Happy Friday!! What do you plan on reading over the weekend?? —— 🤖This is what my Friday night looks like!! 🤖I'm going to start reading Feral by Holly Schindler tonight. I have no idea what to expect; just that Feral is a YA Mystery/Thriller. Which I am SO EXCITED FOR!!! 🤖I'm also going to use a facial sheet mask for the first time. I'm excited, but also anxious. I don't know how my skin will react at all and that is slightly terrifying. - - - #books #bookphotography #feral #hollyschindler #librarybook #bookstagram #bookstagramfeature #yamystery #yathriller #yamysterythriller

❄️Book Review: The Art Of Kiss - Holly Schindler. Quick Question: What’s your favorite type of book setting? Do you like “Small town epic love story” setting? . . The Act of Kiss - Holly Schindler I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review couple of weeks back from @hollyschindler and immediately added it to my July TBR. Took me awhile to get to it but when I finally did, I was amazed by it. Before I go on blabbing, Let me tell you about this book. ABOUT THE BOOK It’s a story of a man and a woman. a story of love, friendship and life in a small Missouri town. The story itself was told from different POVs. Michael was a hopeless romantic while Sharon on the other hand was a bit of a realist. While Michael told his side of the story from a fairytale POV, Sharon had her side spelled out in black and white. I am not much of a fairytale kind of girl but this story makes you believe in fairytale and the magic of love old and new. It is a captivating tale where the past collides with the present in satisfying ways and I really enjoyed reading it. Michael and Sharon Minyard have been together for over 50 years. In their " The beginning of their love story, Sharon, a photographer, took a picture of she and Michael that once stopped traffic in their town of Fairyland. Yes, but all cliche aside, The story takes place in Fairyland, a medium-sized Missouri town with a cozy small town feel. And then comes the story of the 3rd main character and narrator Heather. A young photographer, a villain in the form of a best friend, and a dusty old Nikon camera, and the magic that happens after. The characters are realistic, relatable, and full of personality and I enjoyed getting to know them. The story itself was a slow buildup but when you get the hang of it, you come to appreciate why the descriptive side was important and will most likely finish it in one seating. This is one book I highly recommend and will definitely be looking forward to reading more books from this Author. . The Music of Poetry
Tumblr media
When I was sixteen, I took guitar lessons with Bill Brown.  (That’s him in the above picture--I found it on the Facebook page for his ‘80s band The Misstakes. It’s really close to how he looked when I took lessons from him.) Taking lessons from Bill was a big, big, BIG deal in my world.  It was Bill Brown.  The first time I’d ever heard him was when I was fourteen, at the John Lennon tribute concert, which we once held annually here in Springfield, MO.  And I was blown away.  I had no idea that there were people who could play like that who were not on MTV. (I’m actually being completely serious about that.)  I spent the next year and a half going from venue to venue around town to listen to his various bands play (his best-known group was undoubtedly the Ozark Mountain Daredevils). I was utterly starstruck when I took lessons with Bill.  To this day, I have never been around anyone so innately talented—actually, I think I could live to be two hundred, and meet the very best the world has to offer, and still never be around anyone as talented as Bill.  He was also hilarious.  And kind.  And goofy.  (He used to greet me when I came into the store by singing XTC's "Holly Up on Poppy."  He loved XTC.)  I can’t adequately describe how I looked forward to seeing him every Saturday, in the back room of Third Eye Guitars. I’d already played piano for several years, and could read music.  But Bill also taught me about playing by ear…most importantly, he got me to bring in some of my poems, showed me some of the basics of songwriting.
There’s absolutely a rhythm to the written word—a music in language.  I can’t help but think, then, that those music lessons in Third Eye were early lessons in writing for the page, too.  And I can’t help but think that Bill’s influence is easy to find in my books--especially my poetry. In fact, my main goal in my latest poetry collection Tangles was to make sure that the poems would read as easily and hit every bit as hard as song lyrics.
