‘On fames eternal camping ground, their silent tents are spread’ 🇦🇺 Amongst the recipients of the Victoria Cross who are buried or commemorated at Tyne Cot are Australians Sergeant Lewis McGee (40th - Tasmanian - Bn AIF) - who was killed taking a pillbox at Hamburg Farm - and Captain Clarence Jeffries (34th Bn AIF). We found details of the actions during which these brave men lost their lives and for which they were awarded their respective VCs in Major and Mrs Holt Battlefield Guide to the Ypres Salient & Passchendaele, and visited the sites of their headstones to pay our respects during a trip to the area in 2017. 🌹📚 • #Passchedaele #Ypres #WW1 #InMemory #VictoriaCross #VC #TyneCot #AIF #Belgium #AustralianInfantry #AIF #LestWeForget #CWGC #WarCemetery #Australian #ANZACDay #BattlefieldGuide #Guidebook #Travel #HoltsGuide #PenAndSword #PenAndSwordBooks (at Tyne Cot) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_aCl9wHnC_/?igshid=7a5xj5cmrkou
