~ 𝓾𝓷𝓽𝓲𝓵 𝓼𝓾𝓹𝓹𝓵𝓲𝓮𝓼 𝓵𝓪𝓼𝓽 ~ How cute are these friendship bracelets I made with these sweet little pewter beer bottle and cap?! I will include one in each order received through the WCBC website until they are gone! (Tap link in bio above to shop.) 🙌🏼 On a different note, how is #dryjanuary going for you all? If this beer above looks delicious, you will be tickled to know that it’s actually my carbonated hop tea that I’ve been making for years now. And although I am still imbibing in alcohol, having this #hoptea available helps me greatly reduce my craving for beer. Sometimes the cravings are for something cold and carbonated and not necessarily alcohol. I have shared the recipe below, and I promise you will still have all the beer burps you’ve come to expect! 😆🫧🍺 Hoppy Tea Recipe: Bring 3 gallons water to 180° and then add 3 tea bags per package instructions. (My Paradise Tropical Tea bags make 1 gal per bag) Remove tea bags after 15-20 mins. Remove from heat. Let sit and reduce to 140° (or add ice) Add 1oz pelleted hops in steeping bag. (Citra is the favorite) Be sure to tie off! Let steep approximately 30 mins or to personal taste. Remove the hop sock, and add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to lower the PH. Cool to 70° and transfer to pony keg or sanitized jugs. Chill. If you have the set-up and CO2, then force carbonation if you like. The type of tea and hop combination is up to you! I knew I already liked Fermented type things (homemade saurkraut, sourdough, water kefir drinks, "health" sodas with apple cider vinegar etc) and also barley and malt-favored things (barley coffee like Postum or Pero for example). So I thought beer might not be too big a stretch.
It's definitely in that kind of sour/bitter/fermented flavor category, just not sweet like the other drinks I've tried. I can see why people don't like it but I love it!
And, different types of beer are so different from each other if you start with one you don't vibe with I can see beer being ruined completely. I like the lighter flavor beers but I tried a non-alcoholic Guinness and I did 🙅‍♀️ not 🙅‍♀️ like it.
If you live in a place with Harmon's grocery that's the best place to look for fun drinks imho. They also have a HopTea made with Chamomile that's an interesting experience
The best beer experience I had was in Ouray, Colorado, there was a sports-bar style place we went for dinner and I got a massive plate of chicken wings and a local craft nonalcoholic Blonde beer and. I understand the hype now. It's real. Beer and chicken wings just go together
This is so fascinating :O thanks for the info I'll have to keep an eye out. Idk if I'll like it cause I don't like sauerkraut or apple cider vinegar but I do like sour dough bread.

🥨 Homemade rye soft pretzels for Pretzel Day!!! 🥨 Served with a decadent and addicting Dijon-Brie spread (aka smush a soft Brie with Dijon until it’s spreadable). Add in a Hop Tea for that beer and pretzels feeling, but make it alcohol free. It’s a perfect snack for whatever you’re up to today: lounging, streaming, sitting outside, zooming, board gaming, etc. 🥨 #nationalpretzelday #pretzelday #homemade #homemadepretzels #softpretzels #ryepretzels #beerandpretzels #pretzelsandbeer #hoptea #drinkhoptea #homebaking #vintage #vintagelace #vintagecrystal #fineporcelain #slowliving #feedfeed #feedfeedbaking #f52grams #buzzfeast #notsponsored #nonalcoholic (at Blaine, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_crrvGgbgV/?igshid=hsx8k9ysz7fl

Now available at your local Whole Foods - Boulder, Colorado’s, Hoplark HopTea.
Tumblr media
Press Release
BOULDER, COLO. (Sept. 10, 2019) -- Hoplark HopTea announced today its expansion into Whole Foods Market stores across the country. HopTea is the first sparkling tea brewed with hops to create a distinct flavor profile reflective of a common IPA -- though without any alcohol.
The unexpected combination of Pacific Northwest-grown hops and top-quality tea was so intriguing to customers, Hoplark HopTea went from just selling pints at a farmer’s market in May 2018 to selling cans at approximately 480 stores across the country.
HopTea’s four distinct flavors offer a zero sugar, zero calorie substitute to a traditional high-calorie brew. HopTea is now available for sale in select Whole Foods Market stores throughout the US, online through the Hoplark website and in their Boulder Colorado taproom, which is open to the public on Saturdays from 1pm-5pm.
“After years of trial and error and hundreds of permutations, we’ve created a product that is challenging people’s palates and filling a void for consumers looking for a handcrafted complex beverage with no calories, no sugar, and no alcohol, ” Says Hoplark HopTea Co-Founder Dean Eberhardt. “It has been so rewarding to watch our customers fall in love with HopTea. We knew we made something we loved, but the response has been far beyond our expectations.”
During a health focused month without alcohol that led to the eventual loss of over 50 pounds, Eberhardt joined his best friend, Andrew Markley at a local brewery. It was at this moment that Eberhardt realized that he had been missing the ritual of sharing a drink with a friend. With creativity sparked, Eberhardt and Markley instantly began experimenting to create a substitute with the familiar hop taste that all brewery-goers could enjoy, without sacrificing a healthier lifestyle. After a two-year journey of careful research and experimentation, Hoplark HopTea was born.
From humble beginnings launching on the Denver farmer’s market circuit in May of 2018, HopTea is an unexpected divergence from the norm, not quite fitting into one beverage category. It stands on its own, encouraging customers to do the same. As the company continues to expand, founders Eberhardt, Markley and their growing team of employees continue to handcraft every can in their tea brewery in Boulder, Colorado.
Each HopTea flavor is a unique blend of organic tea leaves, Pacific Northwest-grown hops and sparkling water, resulting in a simple, premium product. As a naturally brewed tea beverage HopTea is void of calories and additives, with no alcohol content. Since launching in the spring of 2018, HopTea’s superior taste has already won several major industry awards including 2018 BevNet’s New Beverage Showdown and the 2019 Natural Product Expo’s Nexty Award for Best New Ready-To-Drink Beverage.
“HopTea is one of the most unique beverages we’ve tasted,” says George Daines, Global Beverage Category Merchant at Whole Foods Market. “The product falls right into many of the current beverage trends we are seeing around no sugar, zero calories, and hop infusions. We are thrilled to partner with HopTea to bring this innovative and delicious product to our Whole Foods Market customers across the nation.”
There are four distinct flavors of HopTea currently offered in Whole Foods Market stores: The Really Hoppy One, The Green One, The Calm One, and The White Tea One. In addition, Hoplark HopTea continually releases new experimental flavors at their brewery, which have included black tea with blueberry lavender and chamomile with honey and lemon. Each can of HopTea typically sells at a price of $2.99 per can.
ABOUT HOPLARK HOPTEA Hoplark HopTea combines the flavor of a high-quality cup of tea with the distinct aroma and flavor of Pacific Northwest-grown hops, guaranteed to intrigue tea and beer enthusiasts alike. Created by founders Andrew Markley and Dean Eberhardt, HopTea is handcrafted, canned and shipped from the Hoplark HopTea Brewery in Boulder, Colorado. HopTea is made with simple, real ingredients resulting in a product with exceptional quality that is gluten-free and void of additives. Each of the four flavors offer a zero sugar, zero calorie substitute to a traditional high-calorie brew. HopTea is available in your local Whole Foods store or online. FOUNDERS Dean Eberhardt Born and raised outside of Chicago, IL, Dean Eberhardt, a serial entrepreneur with a background in sustainability was looking for a life change when he and his family moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2016. What came was a major refocus on health, nature and human connection. The hustle and bustle of the fast-paced business life in Chicago was enticing and enjoyable but this new life led to a path of self-discovery which has informed his view on the importance of customer/product connection. Following in his entrepreneurial father’s footsteps he is committed to building companies and products around the people that make them and the people that consume them driving a renewed appreciation of craft and innovation.
Andrew Markley Wisconsin native Andrew Markley followed in his father’s footsteps by studying Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University - where he later met business partner and close friend Dean Eberhardt. It wasn’t until later, after completing his Doctorate in Biochemistry at UC San Diego, that Markley and Eberhardt decided to pursue their passions and test their skills at brewing. With his background in chemistry, Markley carefully creates each flavor with scientific precision and currently oversees Hoplark HopTea’s production and quality assessment.

Pardon our silence. 2021 was such a busy year with new products, events, and collaborations, and I am incredibly grateful for the year of progress and growth at WCBC. That energy was easily going to carry over into 2022 with many beer events already on the calendar. BUT as it would seem, my body is telling me to take a break … for now. However, I look forward to seeing what you are all up to, and be encouraging … especially to those of you taking a break and participating in #dryjanuary 💦 Feel free to DM me if you need my non-alcoholic #hoptea recipe again 🤓🌱🍺 THANK U for following along in this little space, your kindness, and continuing to shop our little shop! Hope to see you IRL in 2022! ✨ Photo Cred: @aychlynn 📸 #tidepools #kingtides #lowtide #carlsbad #carlsbadbeach (at Carlsbad State Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYXouwwJBl1/?utm_medium=tumblr

337 - Living on the Edge
00:00:00 - Carl Zimmer (@CarlZimmer) has returned to the show to talk to us about his new book, Life’s Edge: The Search For What It Means To Be Alive. While it may be hard to define life, we can provide definite timestamps for the first part of our conversation about the book!
00:26:16 - Having access to liquid is an essential part of life, which includes drinks. Ryan pontificates about his Hoplark HopTea with Spruce Tips which is surprisingly refreshing. After a digression, Patrick gets to reveal that he is also enjoying the nearly non-alcoholic Nanny State from BrewDog.
00:36:52 - Part 2 of our discussion with Carl Zimmer is the second part of our conversation about his book. Please enjoy!
00:57:42 - PaleoPOWs are a lot like life, hard to define but you know it when you see it. Ryan insists that Patrick reconciles with Jeff' S’s e-mail responding to our previous dismissal of 3D in movies by pointing out the Spy Kids franchise as a counterexample. Ryan then reads an e-mail from Bob M. about some previous confusion regarding ungulates and notoungulates referred to in a previous episode. The best resource we know of is the Tree of Life Project, but please get in touch if you know of others!

Trying my second flavour of @drinkhoptea : sparkling white tea with lemondrop simcoe hops. It’s light and balances between citrusy and floral, almost like a cross between tea, champagne, and beer. It’s just my style and I could definitely see myself drinking a lot of this in my future (especially once the warm weather rolls back around in 7 months...). #notanad #hoptea #sparklinghoptea #sparklingtea #tea #teatime #icedtea #wholefoods #teadrinker #tealover #instatea #hops #simcoehops #newandexciting #citrusy #floral #whitetea #lightandbright (at Bellingham, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3-n6dYg73U/?igshid=9z3oqedtflz4

Hoppy Hydration: Non-Alc Seltzers Made With Beer’s Bittering Agent Provide Alternative To Alcohol
Craving an IPA but want to skip the booze? Why not crack open a can of hop water. Over the last several months, a number of beverage brands have introduced hop-infused concoctions designed to replace both alcohol and traditional sparkling water. Most recently, Colorado-based beverage company Hoplark – which makes the “HopTea” brand of hoppy sparkling teas – unveiled its new line of hopped…
