Wedding Gown Run Down
Let’s take a look at the Duggar / Bates ladies’ gowns, in order of marriage...
Anna (Keller) Duggar
Eager to save money, Anna actually wore one of her sister’s (maybe Rebekah’s) wedding gown on her Big Day. A simple, A–line dress in white satin, it featured short sleeves, covered buttons, a detachable train, a lace appliqué “belt,” and a way–too–short hem. Anna completed the look with a homemade, elbow–length veil and blusher with piping detail.
Erin (Bates) Paine
Like Anna, Erin said “I do” in a pure white, satin A–line gown with a chapel train, but—unlike Anna’s—Erin’s was embellished with many lace appliqués, beading, and ruching at the waist. Her gown also featured shorter, slightly less awkward cap sleeves. Along with her gown, Erin wore cascading earrings, [faux] pearls, crystal hair clips, and an double–layer, elbow–length tulle veil with piping and a hint of glitter.
Whitney (Perkins) Bates
For her wedding, Whitney chose a strapless(!) fit–and–flare gown with a beaded bodice, lace appliqués, asymmetric waist ruching, and covered buttons in back. A cap–sleeved bolero brought the dress within the bride’s (and the Bates’) strict modesty standards. Despite sneaking a kiss before the wedding, Whitney wore pure white—you go, girl! After the ceremony, Whit traded her white satin peep–toe heels for black cowboy boots.
Alyssa (Bates) Webster
Alyssa married the Congressman’s son in an airy, pure white, fit–and–flare gown with a lacy, beaded bodice, ‘cap sleeves,’ a tulle skirt with a chapel–length train, and a three–dimensional flower detail on the hip. The bride completed her look with a waltz–length mantilla veil and bright pink pumps, which coordinated well with the wedding’s ostentatious hot pink and electric blue color scheme.
Jill (Duggar) Dillard
Jill was going for a “modest, yet elegant” look for her Big Day. She wore an all–over lace gown from Allure Romance that featured Swarovski crystal beading, a ruched satin sash, and a chapel–length train. Jill customized the gown to fit her modesty standards; her seamstress used lace from the veil to raise the neckline and add cap sleeves to the previously–strapless dress. An elbow–length, lace–trimmed veil, diamond necklace, and bare feet completed Jill’s look.
Jessa (Duggar) Seewald
Jessa ruffled more than a few feathers by foregoing a virginal, pure white dress in favor of this stunning blush pink ballgown from Allure Modest. Pretty in pink, it featured a satin bodice, intricately beaded with Swarovski crystals and pearls, and an airy tulle skirt. Jessa’s accessories included a headband—decorated in faux pearls, and worn to one side—a matching bracelet, and a simple fingertip–length veil with no blusher.
Michaela (Bates) Keilen
For her Big Day, Michaela wanted “something simple,” flattering, and white with sleeves and a train. Ultimately, she chose a pure white, A–line gown with a long train, short sleeves, ruched bodice, beaded appliqués on the bodice, waist, and skirt, and satin–covered buttons down the back. Michaela paired the gown with a piped, elbow–length veil and blusher, which looks really, really similar to Erin’s—it might even be the same one.
Jinger (Duggar) Vuolo
On her wedding day, Jinger donned a stunning, vintage–inspired lace ballgown with a show–stopping 13–foot train. Designed by Renée Miller, Jinger’s elegant wedding dress featured three–quarter length illusion lace sleeves, lace–covered buttons, and a two–layer Biblically–inspired lace train. Unlike her sisters, Jinger opted for an up–do on her Big Day, rather than leaving her hair down. Her look also featured a dainty headband, simple bracelet, bright pink floral heels, and a waltz–length veil with delicate beading on the edge.
Joy–Anna (Duggar) Forsyth
Joy–Anna’s custom, Renée Miller–designed gown combined the best elements of several different dresses, and featured an A–line silhouette, all–over lace and lace appliqués, a modest scoop neckline, three–quarter–length illusion sleeves, and a chapel–length train. Heart–shaped swatches from Michelle and Roxanne Forsyth’s wedding gowns were sewn into the gown’s lining, close to Joy’s heart. Joy paired the dress with ballet flats; the necklace Austin ‘courtposed’ with; and a fingertip–length, lace–trimmed veil, held in place with a lace hair clip.
Kendra (Caldwell) Duggar
According to Kendra, her wedding dress was “not super pouffy,” but the rest of us beg to differ! Regardless, the bride looked absolutely beautiful in her Renée Miller custom ballgown, which featured a crystal–beaded and sequined bodice, cap sleeves, a chapel train, and a ruffly “horsebraid” hem skirt, which borrowed fabric from her mother’s wedding gown. Kendra finished her look with a sparkly bracelet, the rings (promise and engagement) that Joe gave her, and a crystal–trimmed, fingertip–length veil and blusher.
Tori (Bates) Smith
Finally, like Jessa, Tori rejected the washed–out look of the pure white wedding gown, opting instead for white lace over a champagne satin overlay. Designed yet agin by Renée Miller, the gown also featured long lace sleeves, a cathedral train, a crystal belt, and beading, especially along the neckline. Tori completed the look with fingertip–length, beaded veil, pinned underneath a stylish up–do.
And... there you have it! Eleven wedding dress, for eleven beautiful Duggar and Bates brides. Next up, in Part 2, we’ll take a look at the trends!
