HOTD S01E10 thoughts
Well, I thought the finale was awesome. Also, apparently, Rhaenyra is TOTALLY my favorite character, not Daemon, LOL!
- Emma D’arcy is amazing. Period.
- Sorry, ya’ll, but I completely understood where Daemon was coming from throughout the whole thing. He was like YAAAAS, I finally have a reason to take these motherfuckers down, go to war on Otto and his bootlickers after nearly 20 years. YAAS!!!! Woohoo!!
- Why, why, why would he even remotely want to be there when Rhaenrya was going through that childbirth which could possibly lead to her death when he loves her so much when he went nearly through the same thing with Laena who he didn’t love even remotely near like? Daemon has shown in the past that he does, you know, like cowardly shit. He runs when it’s too much. This is like the ZENITH of way, way, waaaaaaaaaay too much. Of course, his ass wasn’t there.
- As for Daemon choking her, duh! four things:
1. That was all about Viserys and Daemon’s major, major issues about Viserys. Never being good enough for Viserys. Viserys never choosing him for anything. Finding out that he had been heir to the throne for how many freaking years and Viserys had NEVER told him this HUGE fucking thing? And to find this out the day or so after Viserys died, so he can’t even have a good vent to Viserys about it because he’s still dealing with his major grief over Viserys, you know, dying.
2. Daemon is dealing with a shit-ton of emotional shit. A) Viserys, the brother he deeply loved, died. B) He just lost his baby. C) His wife’s throne was just usurped. D) He’s all hepped up on YAAAAAS! I can finally kill Otto and Crispin and all of those other cunts who have annoyed me for years!!
3. Daemon hurt her physically. And then Rhaenyra gave it right back emotionally. Did you see her reaction once he let go? She was all (with a smile on her face, no less) “You didn’t know? Hahahahaha! He never told you!!” Yeah, she hit back at him where it fucking hurt!
Yeah, these two fucking fight dirty as fuck!
4. Daemon Targaryen is NOT an anti-hero. He can be a monster. He can be a bad guy who does a lot of really, really bad things. Yes, he loves his family. Yes, he does, but he is not some woobie. He does really awful, terrible shit. That be who Daemon is. This is NOT out of character for him. No, sireebob!
- Rhaenyra making sure that Rhaena and Baela were part of the war council discussion... chef’s kiss.
- I love Jace. That is all.
- Every moment with Luke made my heart hurt because I knew what was coming.
- The contrast to the birth episode from the first episode compared to this one, gah. All the awards for Emma D’Arcy. ALL. THE. AWARDS. Throughout the labor, pulling out the stillbirth baby girl, holding her, wrapping her up. Gah. And even Daemon coming upon her and unable to come in because it was too much for him and then his grief on his own out in the waves. My heart!! Gosh, it was devastating.
- Vhargar is huge. Aemond is fucking evil. I hate him. I know, he didn’t mean to kill Luke, but still!
- Rhaenrya tried so hard for peace. She. Tried. So. FUCKING HARD. And Daemon was such... ugh, he kept acting like he was in charge, and some of the looks she was giving him like, “Fucker, I AM THE QUEEN, dude!” And then likewise when she wouldn’t let him kill Otto, he was all, “but, but, but.... I wanna! Why won’t you let me kill me him?!?!?” (And, honestly, I was thinking same. “Rhaenyra... let Daemon kill Otto!!”)
- Ooh, I loved the callback to Daemon and Otto facing off on the Dragonstone walkway and then here comes Rhaenrya on Syrax. And this time, Rhaenyra was WITH Daemon. So cool.
- Finally, oh, I LOVED when Ser Erryk brought out the crown, knelt and declared himself loyal to the Queen, said his vows. Oh, I was all verklempt. Then Daemon put the crown upon Rhaenyra’s head, called her “My Queen” and then knelt before her. And all followed suit. That was great.
Really, I think if the showrunners had known how well the show as going to do they would have stretched things out more and THAT would have been the end of the season. It would have been a fantastic contrast the to previous episode’s end, and such an awesome end to the episode and season. Ah well.
Overall, I thought it was a fantastic episode. Emma D’Arcy was really the MVP. Just fantastic. Ep 9 was meh, but this one was awesome. Can’t wait to rewatch it on Sunday night!

You know what? I don’t hate what they did with Lucerys and Aemond story line. In fact I think I even like it. Here are the 3 reasons why:
1) Fire and Blood is written like a history book. A collection of different accounts, some from people who were there, some who were not there, some of them heavily exaggerated, ALL OF THEM BIASED.
So us, the audience, know what happened because we are in the air with the two of them. The people on the ground? They just saw Vhagar nerf that little dragon out of the sky with murderous intent. So to any onlookers yeah Aemond just murdered his nephew in cold blood.
(And let’s be honest with ourselves, do we really think Aemond is going to be spreading around how guilty he is about Lucerys? He may tell his mom it was an accident, but I think that’s it. He is keeping all his emotions right here, and one day he will die. Outside of his mom and probably Haelena, everyone will call him a murderer and a kinslayer and he is going to let them. Not one word to disprove or in defense of his actions.)
2) Aemond’s regret.
This is a guys that is an amazing fighter, skilled and deadly…. He also never killed a person, especially someone he grew up with. People can talk big game about killing someone you have beef with, especially if that person is a relative, but one thing is words the other is the actual deed. He may know what death is, but it’s another can of worms being a accessary to murder.
This reminds me of Sansa’s reactions to death. When it was a death in a tourney she barely reacted. It was a tourney, that death was brushed off and they moved on. It was a spectacle, like a death in a movie scene for us. But when it was her father’s death it suddenly became all too real.
That was his nephew. He grew up with him. And eye for a life is not a worthy trade. The scales are off.
3) A Dragon is not a slave.
Have you ever road a horse? Did you know that, if the horse notices that you don’t know what you doing they will just ignore your commands? The horse I was trying to ride would not obey me for it’s life because he knew I had no power over him. I had no experience and was anxious and had barely got on the saddle because I could not grip it right and had noodles for arms at the time.
Dragons are intelligent (the intelligence of a five year old if I remember the lore correctly). A person can bond with them, train them, ride them… but if you believe they have fully control over them you never raised a pet in your life. They WILL do shit against your will, especially the smart ones.
This is something we see in the books; Daenerys has a hard time controlling her dragons, the only one she can ride is Drogon (and she has to use a whip),
in Fire and Blood (possible spoilers for future seasons) Joffrey tries to ride Syrax to save his dragon. But Syrax is not his dragon, it’s his mom’s. So, as you can imagine, it went to shit pretty fast.
I once had a dog (RIP Leo, we miss you) and he was a delightful pitbull. He would answer to my commands, he would help me with hide and seek (he would stand in front of his house as I hide inside it) he was friendly and lovable… and the “Leo don’t jump on people as a way to say Hi” command was ignored Every. Single. Time.
Kira, Leo’s mom, hated everyone that was not my Grandma, her owner, and didn’t answer to anyone except my Grandma and tried her dammest to bite our asses off. Hell even Grandma didn’t come of without some bit marks through the years.
Now I have cats and we all know that trying to command cats is a exercise in futility.
So now imagine dragons, giant dogs with fire breath and wings. Each one of them with their own personalities, each one more deadly than the other.
Arrax, a young dragon, in a panic, tried to attack Vhagar.
Vhagar, an older, battle hardened dragon, retaliated.
The scales, as a said before, are off.
It’s like watching a baby kitten try to attack a old tigger and the tigger retaliating by biting.
Because of sheer size, the tiger bites the kitty’s head off.
This show is a tragedy. And the bread and butter of any tragedy are the “If onlys”
And now, as the Dance unravels around him, Aemond will have to live with his.
“If only I hadn’t gone after him…”

So apparently according to the leaks there's a scene in episode 9 of Aegon with Alicent in a carriage heading for his coronation with him breaking down crying and saying how he felt abandoned by Viserys and how very much he does not want to go through with any of this and Alicent telling him not to use violence and to spare Rhaenyra because she's his sister still

Ok ok
I talk a lot of shit and usually I end up being ~at least~ eighty percent correct.
But um…I have never been happier to eat my words

I have not been this in love with anything this man has done since the 2009 Doctor Who announcement.
I may have to find a new favorite gif of all time.
HBO hair and makeup you’re still on thin fucking ice.
But you did a really *really* good job on this.

so that daemyra scene is actually underwhelming after everything i read. it just makes no sense.
i’ve been reading for the whole day about people now hating daemon for it, when it literally makes no sense. daemon had so many chances to hurt her, to kill her and take the inheritance he wanted. he has literally proven so many times that he wanted her, not the crown. and now, out of the blue, he chokes her because she wants to bend the knee and keep the peace? dude this isn’t daemon. it’s so out of character it didn’t even feel real. daemon is so far from being a saint of course, but damn that wasn’t him.

Yeah HOTD is only going to be 3 seasons with the Fall of King's Landing happening in the season 2 finale (there's no way this show is going to give Rhaenyra a battle scene because that will make her character too active)

I caved. I watched the leaked episode. HOWEVER, I will still be watching on Sunday night because
*POTENTIAL SPOILER HERE* *BUT IT’S ACTUALLY JUST MY OWN OPINION WHICH SEEMS UNPOPULAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA AMONG OTHERS WHO HAVE SEEN IT*
I honestly think it was well done. It seems like there may have been a few things left out of the leaked version (weird cuts and all), but overall it was a good episode with a lot of angst and drama and character development and all. I’ll include bonus spoilers BUT PLS ONLY READ IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO - DON’T HATE ME:
The biggest thing I took away from this episode (aside form the Rhaenys x Corlys interactions) was the fact that Rhaenys didn’t bow to Rhaenyra at her coronation (even though everyone else did); nor did she bow her head at the first meeting of the Black Council (even though everyone else did). Fucking. Queen. She knows her worth and where she stands. She will not bow to Rhaenyra and I stan that.
I also think that Vhagar didn’t obey Aemond because, as Ryan said in some earlier interview, she’s a cranky old bitch. She just did her own thing because she’s a creature with her own autonomy and got mad and did what she wanted to in the moment. I think it fits PERFECTLY.
