Okay but pale Kanrezi? Galaxy-brain take right there.
Like, I understand why them being black would be interesting, with Terezi being an on-fire garbage can of a person and Kanaya having a great lack of tolerance for idiocy and bad fashion sense. But that hinges on a more shallow understanding of their personalities. Like, yes, Kanaya is intolerant of those who are stupid or walking disasters, but remember that she is compassionate by nature. And remember that Terezi being a walking disaster is because of her upbringing or lack thereof.
So, the way I see it, Kanaya sees someone who’s unkempt and thinks, “This Person Is In Need Of My Help”, but for those who oughta know better, she goes “Wow This Absolute Heathen I Shall Roast The Living Nightlights Out Of You”, which is basically how it is with most people. It’s basically a “Make Them Feel Bad So They Do Better Next Time” type thing. But she comes to someone like Vriska or Terezi, who are Rather Messed Up, and she recognises that they don’t really know better, that this is like habit for them, and then the protection racket swings to “I Shall Be Your Guardian Because You Need One” instead. Because, why sarcasm someone who needs legitimate help? (Granted, this isn’t quite how the Vriskan relationship ended up playing out, but that’s probably how it initiated, at least friendship-wise, partly ignoring the Pesterquest canon.)
There’s also the point that Terezi is just a giant womanchild, which would probably instigate some sort of maternal instinct in Kanaya. I mean, yeah, there is the issue that Terezi is possibly the most annoying person in the multiverse, and Kanaya’s not exactly known for her patience, but hey, she was able to be patient with Rose’s drinking problems for so long, right? I think she can manage to be patient if she really cares about someone.
So that’s their dynamic from Kanaya’s perspective. From Terezi’s, well, I’m not the hugest fan of pale Vrisrezi, because while they understand each other deeply, they have a tendency to enable each other’s bad behaviour. Not that Terezi’s the worst-behaved troll ever or anything, but she’s not exactly Lawful Good. I really do think she needs a moirail of some sort, though, or at the very least someone to confide in who is not necessarily Vriska. I feel like a lack of such a person might’ve prompted her impromptu Jaunt Into the Unknown in the credits. Because Terezi is also not the most well-adjusted individual. She’s been through a LOT. (I mean, they all have, but still.) She needs someone to help her bear her mental load. And I think Kanaya is a perfect candidate, or should I say, Kan-didate. HAHAHA PUNS im so effing tired send help
So yeah, tl;dr, Kanaya has an instinct to help, and Terezi has a need for help. Not that the moirallegiance would be a one-way street, though, of course. Kanaya’s got her own insecurities. And Terezi would totally dope-slap her until she stopped it. Considering the contrast in how Rose and Terezi handle issues, and knowing that having therapists with differing perspectives on handling issues is a good thing, I think it’d be good for Kanaya to have both Rose (the “we’ll-sarcastically-but-kindly-talk-you-through-this” type) and Terezi (the “snap-out-of-it” type) in her wheelhouse. (Assuming that red Rosemary and Vrisrezi occur here.) And Terezi would then have both Vriska (the ”lets-go-do-arson-to-make-you-not-do-this” type) and Kanaya (the “I-will-let-you-vent-and-hug-you-until-you-calm-down” type) in her own wheelhouse. Psychiatry for the win!
In essence, please ship pale Kanrezi, please ship pale Kanrezi, please ship pale Kanrezi, they need to interact more (and, heck, maybe Kanaya can be annoyed by crocs in the meanwhile!)
