Mirrorless Mover Camera Backpack by ThinkTank
If you are thinking of adding the Mirrorless Mover Backpack to your kit or other ThinkTank or MindShift products, please consider using my affiliate links. Referral purchases help support independent photography gear reviews like this.
I have been working with a ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover backpack for the past couple of months. This versatile camera backpack definitely has a space in my camera bag lineup… and they are finally shipping! In this article, let’s take a deeper look at this backpack.
Why Use The ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover Backpack
Photographers have several camera bags because each one serves a particular purpose. I’ve been using the Mirrorless Mover Backpack for a couple of months and it’s certainly got a space in my photo bag lineup. The Mirrorless Mover Backpack is lightweight, comfortable, and secure making it a great choice for serious photo activities where you need several lenses with you. I’ve been reaching for this backpack when I am in an urban environment or embarking on a lighter outdoor activity. I need a few lenses and a couple of bodies to capture the images I need… but my larger packs are simply overkill or don’t suit the environment I’m in.
The ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover Backpack is also a great travel companion. You can pack a healthy amount of your photo gear plus a laptop or tablet and the pack fits comfortably under an airplane seat and easily in an overhead bin. I used the backpack on a cross-country flight and it was a perfect balance between having the gear I needed and being economical with space and stowage.
Overall Thoughts
I found the ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover Backpack comfortable to wear. It has a well-padded anatomical back panel and padded shoulder straps, which offer plenty of adjustability to suit how you like to have a pack drape on your shoulders. The backpack travels extremely well. It easily fits under the seat on airplanes.
I also found working with the bag easy. The inner chamber has a lot of configurability. I’ve used this backpack on several different outings and changed up the compartments to suit the gear I needed to take. The lighter gray interior also makes it easy to find items, as most camera and photography equipment is black. Accessing the outer pocket for a laptop or tablet is fluid as well. I like that the pocket zippers only go down partially, so there is no risk of items spilling out.
The build quality and construction of the Mirrorless Mover Backpack is top notch. That’s no surprise to me. I expect that from ThinkTank and MindShift products and this backpack met my expectations. The included rain cover is a very nice touch. The backpack is made with weather resistant material, yet having another layer of protection at-the-ready if the weather turns is always appreciated.
Ample Storage And Organization
The Mirrorless Mover Backpack has two stowage areas, the main compartment and the front pocket. The key specifications are:
Exterior Dimensions: 11” W x 16.5” H x 9” D (28 x 42 x 23 cm)
Internal Dimensions: 10” W x 15.5” H x 4.75” D (25 x 39 x 12 cm)
Total Volume: 18 Liters
Front Pocket Volume: 5 Liters
Weight: 2 lbs. 13 oz (1.3 kg) including all dividers and rain cover
Check ThinkTank’s website for the detailed specs.
The main compartment is extremely configurable. I’ve used this pack on several different outings, from short city walks to light outdoor activities to cross-country trips. The main compartment is easily reconfigurable to carry the gear I needed for each trip… and I usually had room leftover. In the photo here, I have:
1 full-frame body w/ 24-70mm + hood attached
1 crop-sensor body (no lens mounted)
1 16-35mm lens
1 20mm lens
DJI Pocket Osmo, Rode mics, spare batteries, battery chargers, cables, and power adapters
A few examples of what fits in the main compartment from the ThinkTank website:
1 Standard Mirrorless Body, 4 to 6 lenses, small accessory bags
1 Standard Mirrorless Body and zoom trifecta with 70-200mm f/2.8 attached with hood extended
1 Standard Mirrorless Body, 2 lenses; flash, light jacket
The front pocket is more than just a front pocket. The 5 liter pocket can hold a light jacket or other personal items. It also has a dedicated padded laptop/tablet sleeve that accommodates most 14” devices. The pocket also has a small zipper pouch for items like batteries and memory cards. The mesh cover makes it easy to see what’s in the zipper pouch.
The backpack also has two expandable side for items like water bottles or a tripod. The backpack does not have straps or a tripod foot “flap” to center-lash a tripod to the back of the bag. Your tripod will be side-mounted.
Build Quality, Comfort and Ergonomics
As with all gear from ThinkTank, the Mirrorless Mover Backpack has solid construction. The backpack has a durable water-repellant coating, 3-ply bonded nylon stitching, and sturdy YKK RC zippers. The interior dividers strike the right balance, being sturdy yet flexible, and soft so they don’t scratch your gear.
The shoulder straps are well-padded and have an adjustable sternum strap. The anatomically designed back panel sits well on your back, has a waist stabilizer strap, and a lumbar pass-through for the ThinkTank Pro Speed Belt (not included with the backpack). The weight-centered top handle is strong and well padded for comfort. The chest and waist straps distribute the weight evenly, reducing fatigue.
Stylish Design
The Mirrorless Mover Backpack is highly functional, and it also looks fantastic! It’s got a sleek design, handsome but not overly flashy. The backpack comes in four accent colors, Cool Grey, Coast Green, Marine Blue, and Campfire Orange. The color schemes make it suitable for professional settings as well as casual outings. It's a bag you’ll feel good about carrying around… and knowing your gear is well-protected.
Pricing & Availability
The list price for the ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover Backpack is US$149.75 and is available now. Choose from one of the four color schemes offered.
Parting Thoughts
I’m very much enjoying using the Mirrorless Mover Backpack. I’m looking to it as my go-to backpack for some extended travel where my trusty rotation backpack is too bulky and frankly overkill for the types of photography I’ll be doing.
I will highlight this… When you’re packing a mix of heavier and lighter items, stow the heavier items toward the bottom of the bag. Weight distribution is important so the backpack will sit upright when put down, especially with a laptop or tablet in the front pouch. If the bag is top-heavy, it tends to tip over when put down.

Scotts Hill Baptist Church #4 - David Hayes
The past month has been very busy with easter weekend as well as a worship night that was held in Keenan auditorium. I have enjoyed my time so thus far and the busy schedule makes the job fun for me. I am met with new tasks weekly which I enjoy.
Easter weekend contained a family event called spring with easter egg hunts, food, games, inflatables and more. My job was to film all of this and edit a recap video. I was able to use a new piece of equipment purchased by the church called the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. It was a very fun camera to use and I learned a good bit about it while using it. There where also 6 total services on Easter Sunday. I helped film archival footage during these services for the church to look back on in the future.
The worship night held in Keenan was a massive turnout. I was in charge of filming this event. I archived all the footage of this event and spent some time sorting through it. I learned how to shoot in a concert style setting which I feel will be very helpful for my ultimate goal of doing freelance work.

How I Overcame My Challenges as a Video Content Creator...
As a video content creator, I face many challenges every day. From finding the best locations to shoot, to editing hours of footage, to promoting my work on social media, I have to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines. But I also love what I do, and I always try to learn from my experiences and improve my skills. Here is how I tackled some of the challenges I faced yesterday.
Exploring New Places
I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to explore the rail corridor, a former railway line that has been transformed into a greenway for walking and cycling. I walked 6,000+ steps and took some photos.
Creating and Publishing Daily Flagship Content
After returning home, I created and published my daily flagship content. It’s a simple and quick video answering a viewer’s question from a previous video about how to add the shake effect in Capcut, a free video editing app for mobile devices. This time I managed to complete it within 2 hours instead of 4 hours because I wasn’t live-streaming behind the scenes. Live-streaming is a great way to interact with my audience and show them how I work, but it also adds more pressure and time to my workflow. So I decided to skip it this time and focus on producing a high-quality video that can help my viewers learn something new.
Promoting My Upcoming Class on Social Media
With the help of AI, I promoted my upcoming videography and video editing class on social media, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. I used Bing Chat in Creative mode. It created three completely different promotional materials for the three different platforms. It saved me so much time without cracking my brain.
Burning the Midnight Oil Editing Footage
Finally, I burned the midnight oil editing 3 hours of footage from the previous videography and video editing class recording into 10 small chapters for my online course. This time I live-streamed so that I could chat with my audience while editing. I used Yolobox Pro and Yololiv Instream to stream my screen and webcam to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, and TikTok simultaneously. The Yolobox is an all-in-one multi-cam Multi-platform portable live streaming Studio.
What’s Next?
Today I must update myself on the new DJI Osmo Mobile 3, finish up editing my 11 hours left of videography and video editing class recording into smaller chapters for the online course, make another daily consecutive flagship content, and update my slides for tomorrow’s class on how I attract viewers and followers on TikTok using capcut videos.
I hope you enjoyed reading about my day as a video content creator. If you are interested in learning more about videography and video editing, please check out my online course or join me in my live class. If you have any questions or feedback for me, please leave them in the comments below or send me a message. Thank you for your support!

the shoots day 1 - adultolescence
The lead up to the shoot week was probably the most stressful time in my film career thus far...as detailed in my other blog posts my worst fears came true. BUT alas we managed to film something so I am really happy with that.
DAY 1 - ABERDOUR
This is where we shot the corner shop scene the title sequence and the bit at the bus stop. We shot it in the village where I am from as that's where we got the corner shop location. It turned out to be quite a long day but it went really well. We all met at the train station in Aberdour at around 2pm, Tom, Robbie and I were in the van we managed to hire for the kit. Then Alana came in her car. It took a bit longer for Cal and John to get there as a lot of the trains were cancelled.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As soon as they were there we got everything set up and headed out to shoot, the first thing we were gonna shoot was Robbie skating, this was scene 3 in the script from his work to the skatepark, there is a road in the village which I thought would be suitable, It was a difficult scene to shoot we had a few shots planned which we tried out. I don't think they looked very good as the road was not very aesthetically pleasing and the camera was static so we were not really there with the character. We then decided to use the dji OSMO that we had with us (courtesy of Tom Walker) and Tom Spurin skated behind Robbie which got us the title sequence shot which we used in the final film. I think this is a really beautiful shot and was s total stroke of luck that we managed to get it as Tom was actually trying to get one of Robbies feet and skateboard.
Tumblr media
This was difficult to do as we had to block the road off (we all had hi vis on)
We then went to the shop to film after this for around 5pm after he shuts the shop, I had made no prior agreement with him for when we had to leave, I had previously asked him how long we could have but he is a man of very few words and didn't really communicate this with me.
The shoots inside went well, I really like the one shot we go of him walking in, we did get a lot fo coverage from inside the shop but didn't use a lot of it in the edit. We originally had plans to light inside but on the monitor the lighting looked good and there were strong overhead lights (it feels like a sin saying this) however, I do think looking back at the footage we could have benefitted from a light on Robbies face as we loose him a bit when he goes behind the counter.
Performance from Robbie was really good, however, I think the line 'Have a nice day' did get a lot a little bit in the rush of going out of the door.
The bus stop scene was such a pain to shoot but after it the crew were all really happy as I think personally its one of the nicest looking shots in the film. Didnt intend for it to be so dark but as we shot it mid march the we lost a lot of the light really early, the traffic noise was something which was concerning as we were struggling to get takes without cars coming through it. We figured out there was a gap in the traffic where lights must have stopped so managed to work around that. To boost light on his face we used a reflector, which I think worked really well, I like the contrast on Robbes face a lot.
After this we were pretty exhausted it was late at night so we went to my mums house for some nice home cooked food:))) We reviewed the footage and tried to make some plans for tomorrow. Going to bed not knowing if we had out location sorted or not.

DJI Pocket 3 Release Date | DJI Pocket 3 Spec’s And Design.when will dji pocket 3 release date?
There are rumours going around that the DJI Pocket 3 Release Date or DJI Pocket 3 Launch Date. Pocket 3 is coming in the third or fourth quarter of 2022. This is my design for how I would like it to look as well as the features and specs I hope to see.
At the time when DJI released the original osmo pocket, it was almost revolutionary. A camera that small with a built-in gimbal had never been done before and what a fantastic device that was. The pocket 2 seemed like it would be the upgrade we’d all been waiting for. While it was an upgrade in some respects, it left a few of us a little bit disappointed.

Conclusion Based on the review, the DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo and the GoPro HERO12 Black are both fantastic waterproof action cameras. Let's sum up the key points and address any drawbacks. DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo The DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo is an action camera that can capture stunning footage in 4K at 120 frames per second. It has a 1/1.3-inch sensor, which means it can capture great low-light images. The camera also offers 10-bit and D-Log M color performance, giving you more flexibility when it comes to editing and color grading your videos. With a long battery life of 160 minutes, you can film your adventures without worrying about running out of power. Overall, the DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo is a reliable and high-performing outdoor camera. GoPro HERO12 Black On the other hand, the GoPro HERO12 Black is another excellent waterproof action camera. It can shoot ultra HD video at 5.3K and take photos with its 27MP camera. The GoPro HERO12 Black also offers the ability to live stream and use the camera as a webcam, adding versatility to its features. Additionally, its image stabilization feature ensures that your footage will be smooth and steady. Drawbacks One drawback of the DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo is that it does not have as high of a video resolution as the GoPro HERO12 Black. While 4K is still excellent, the GoPro HERO12 Black offers a higher resolution at 5.3K, resulting in even more detailed videos. Another drawback of the GoPro HERO12 Black is that it does not come with as long of a battery life as the DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo. This means you may need to carry spare batteries or have access to charging options during long filming sessions. Recommendation If you are looking for an action camera with superior video resolution and the ability to capture highly detailed footage, the GoPro HERO12 Black is the better choice for you. However, if you prioritize longer battery life and exceptional low-light performance, the DJI Osmo Action 4 Standard Combo is the camera for you. Remember to consider your specific needs and what you plan to use the camera for before making your decision. Both cameras offer great features and will capture your adventures in a stunning way. DJI Osmo Mobile 3 review
Tumblr media
DJI is popularly known as a manufacturer of drones and handheld stabilizers for cameras. Even though it recently entered the field of action cameras with the Osmo Action, its strengths remain in the production of high-quality gimbals for smartphones and cameras. The most recent launch was Osmo Mobile 3, the handheld stabilizer for 3rd generation smartphones. This 3-axis gimbal is a great tool for content creation, especially if your phone doesn't have the best electronic or optical stabilization. The Osmo Mobile 3 gets some nice improvements over its predecessor. It is now foldable to improve mobility. has better ergonomics; and has new shortcuts and gestures. We've been using the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 for about a week now, and here's what we think of it.
DJI Osmo Mobile 3 design and features
The Osmo Mobile 3 is available in India as a standalone device for Rs. 8,999 or as a "combo" for Rs. 10,999, which includes a hard carrying case and an Osmo Grip tripod. The latter does not add extra height to the gimbal, but has foldable feet so that when closed, it can be used as an extended handle or as a normal tripod. The Osmo Mobile 3 weighs only 405 g and is therefore quite light. The handle and most parts of the gimbal itself are made of plastic, but the quality is very good. The handle is covered with plenty of rubber to additionally support the sweaty palms. The arm of the gimbal can now be folded to make it easier to carry. You can even attach a phone to it when folded, which is convenient. With the 3-axis stabilization, you can perform tilting, rolling and swiveling movements while recording. The main buttons are located on the front of the handle. This includes a multi-directional joystick and buttons for recording and switching between the recording modes (& # 39; M & # 39;). There is a zoom control on the left and a USB Type-C port for charging on the right.
Tumblr media
The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 has ergonomically placed buttons on the handle The Osmo Mobile 3 also has a full-size USB Type-A port on the handle in case you need to charge your phone while recording. Finally, we have an ergonomically placed release button on the back of the handle that can be used to reset the position of the phone. Depending on the number of clicks, the sport mode can also be activated and the tilt axis locked, and you can switch between the rear and front cameras of your phone. The Osmo Mobile 3 has a standard tripod mount on the bottom, so you can attach it to any tripod for time-lapse photography, or use the included tripod when you buy the combo package. The packaging contains a basic quick guide, a USB-C cable, a wrist strap and a soft storage bag. We received the combination package for review, which also contains the housing and the tripod. The hard shell case is of good quality and stiff enough to provide good protection. We only wish it was big enough to accommodate the tripod.

DJI Osmo Mobile 3 performance
Before switching on this device, you have to open it, which is very easy thanks to the spring-loaded arm. Thanks to carefully placed grooves and latches, the arms of the gimbal snap into place when folded so that it does not accidentally unfold. The gimbal must be activated before you can insert your phone into the terminal. To do this, you need to download and log in to the DJI Mimo app, which is available in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. As soon as you have gone through the setup process, which also checks and downloads all available firmware updates for the gimbal, you can use Osmo Mobile 3. The gimbal automatically tries to center the installed phone. However, you can also manually adjust the position by holding the tilt motor. You can also calibrate the position and angle of the phone using an option in the Mimo app. The Osmo Mobile 3 is compatible with most of today's popular cell phones, but not all functions are available for all cell phones. For example, slow motion videos and 60fps videos in the Mimo app are currently only available on iPhones. 4K recording is not yet available on some Android phones like the Realme X2 Pro (review), but on others like the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (review). Even if your phone is not in the list, you can still use all the basic functions of the app. Hopefully we should see better support in future releases. We tested the Osmo Mobile 3 with a variety of mobile phones such as the Redmi Note 8 (test), the Realme X2 Pro Master Edition, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the Apple iPhone 11 Pro. The holder for the phone is also cleverly designed so that it does not come into contact with one of the buttons and you can really center it. We noticed that all of the phones we tested got quite warm after using the Mimo app for a long time and the batteries were quickly discharged as a result. If you are not taking pictures, turn off the screen or put the gimbal into standby to save power for both devices. With Osmo Mobile 3, you can record professional-looking, stabilized videos with little effort. This is particularly useful on phones that don't have electronic stabilization or don't do a good job. With the Redmi Note 8, for example, 4K videos are recorded in good quality without stabilization during the day. The Osmo Mobile 3 fixes this problem and makes an otherwise unusable video clip look like it was recorded with a much more expensive phone. We even tried recording a video while zooming in, which causes blurring even with tiny movements. The gimbal made a big difference even while walking. If you have a high-end phone with optical stabilization, taking photos in low light is still a challenge. A stabilizer for such situations is noticeable in the end result.
Tumblr media
The DJI Mimo app offers good functions for recording and controlling the Osmo Mobile 3 In addition to standard photos and videos, the Mimo app also offers other recording modes and functions. You can use it to record professional-looking time-lapse videos in which you can set the path that the gimbal follows for the duration of the time-lapse. Hyperlapse videos are also possible, and we really liked the end results even with a cheap phone like the Redmi Note 8. In story mode, you can easily create short stories. All you have to do is select a template and follow the instructions to record short clips that are then automatically merged with transitions, on-screen text and music. You also have the option of instantly sharing these clips on social platforms. For panoramas, you can choose a 180-degree shot or a wider shot that captures a lot more angles. With the latter, however, the end result didn't always look good, and we occasionally noticed inconsistencies in sewing. In addition, the gimbal of the Osmo Mobile 3 can only be rotated to a limited extent so that you cannot take 360-degree photos or panoramas on it.
Tumblr media
A 3x3 panorama that was combined with the Redmi Note 8 by the DJI Mimo app The Osmo Mobile 3 also has ActiveTrack 3.0, which is available via the Mimo app. You can select the object you want to follow through the viewfinder. The gimbal tracks it automatically to make sure it's always in the center of the frame. It worked very well with people, but not so much with fast moving objects. There is a sport mode that can be activated by pressing and holding the shutter button twice. This enables an active tracking of the object in the middle of the frame and increases the speed of the motors so that the gimbal can swivel and tilt faster. ActiveTrack 3.0 can also be activated by showing the camera a palm or a V-sign. However, this must be activated in the settings of the app. Other gestures include double tapping the mode button to rotate the phone horizontally or vertically. and triple-tap the shutter button to switch between the front and rear cameras. You can also activate the quick menu, which allows you to use the joystick to navigate through all shooting modes so that you never have to reach for your phone's screen. DJI specifies a battery life of up to 15 hours. We noticed that the battery life is actually around 10 hours in actual use, which is still not a bad thing. We believe that this should be more than enough runtime for everything you will be filming at the same time. The Osmo Mobile 3 can be used while charging, so you can use it for longer. It took approximately two and a half hours to fully charge when connected to a 10W adapter.
Tumblr media
The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 works with almost any phone, but some features of the Mimo app are only available on some models judgment The DJI Osmo 3 is an incredibly entertaining device and a must for any serious content creator. Even for casual users, it is a very practical accessory when you are on vacation or just like to make home videos. The best part is that it is easy to use and even videos recorded with an inexpensive smartphone can look more professional. We love how compact it gets when folded up. The subject tracking function works well for people. and the Mimo app offers useful shooting modes. We hope that DJI updates the app to support more resolutions and frame rates on a wider range of Android phones. The starting price of Rs. 8,999 is very good considering the performance and functions that this device offers. We recommend putting a bit more money in the combo package, as the case is a must if you travel a lot and the tripod is very convenient for time-lapse photography. Price: Case 8,999 (base model); Case 10,999 (combo model) benefits Comfortable and portable Very good stabilization Easy to use Useful companion app Decent battery life disadvantage Object tracking could be better Read the full article

Maldives Twitter VS Francesca Borri
Imagine getting harrassed on twitter by a bunch of people you claimed didn’t know english or have smart phones 😂
— ‎ބ̸̤̯̍̏ު̵̩͔̬͑͝ރ̴̢̝͓̅ަ̶̜̌͊ކ̴̱̮̚ަ̶̹̱̥̽ށ̸̘͒ި̵̻̘̍̆͗❓🎈 (@Burakashi) January 27, 2019
*smartphone 😫🔫
The Maldives is one of the most oppressive countries in the world. It has a constitution that makes the lives of non-Muslim and LGBT Maldivians illegal. This makes life incredibly difficult for any progressive Muslims that want to bring about reforms as well as saying anything against extremist sheikhs will get you labled an apostate. Progressive Muslims like @moyameehaa (Ahmed Rizwan / Rilwan) and @yaamyn (Yameen Rasheed) who have spoken out for Maldivian minorities, progressive Islam, and secularism have been taken away from us. Sheikhs are not safe either, as one of the only moderately progressive sheikhs, Afrasheem Ali, was also brutally murdered in 2012.
First they came for the bloggers, and I did not speak out Because I was not a blogger. Then they came for irreligious, and I did not speak out Because I was not laadheenee. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me.
— Mohamed Shuraih (@MohamedShuraih) January 27, 2019
The greatest battlefield in the war for the hearts and minds of Maldivians is the internet. Bloggers like Hilath Rasheed have been the targets of escalating campaigns of harassment and death threats. In 2012, Hilath himself barely survived his neck being slashed. This was after years of attacks against people deemed laadheenee.
Maldivian extremists have used the internet for their terror and propaganda activities. One of the earliest Maldivian extremist groups, of which Rilwan was an ex-member, called “dot” or “dotu” literally got it’s name from “dot com”. Right now there are dozens of terrorist recruitment facebook and twitter pages, telegram, whatsapp, and viber groups, and websites brainwashing Maldivians with extremist propaganda.
He made a list of “dhivehi kaafarun”. We reported his account and now he’s changed the name to “Dhivehi atheists”. But here is proof of the original name https://t.co/WvbfkKbMp1
— ‎ބ̸̤̯̍̏ު̵̩͔̬͑͝ރ̴̢̝͓̅ަ̶̜̌͊ކ̴̱̮̚ަ̶̹̱̥̽ށ̸̘͒ި̵̻̘̍̆͗❓🎈 (@Burakashi) June 16, 2018
Their latest efforts including making a list of Dhivehi Kaafarun (Maldivian infidels) on twitter (which twitter support refused to remove, the account is still active), and a telegram group called “MV Murtad Watch” (Maldives apostate watch). This has also not been removed despite even making the local news.
Maldivian extremists are free to spread hate on the internet. Especially if they use Dhivehi, a language that cannot be automatically translated. This means that the support staff of these platforms often don’t even know how to recognise hate and fear speech when it is written in Dhivehi.
Murtad Watch MV is still active on @telegram. They claim to not be making death threats. But they state multiple times the verdict for apostasy is death. After which they list pictures, names & personal info of alleged apostates. Calling stoning cruel is enough to get labeled one. pic.twitter.com/hqcOXAI0fb
— ‎ބ̸̤̯̍̏ު̵̩͔̬͑͝ރ̴̢̝͓̅ަ̶̜̌͊ކ̴̱̮̚ަ̶̹̱̥̽ށ̸̘͒ި̵̻̘̍̆͗❓🎈 (@Burakashi) January 27, 2019
murtad watch is like "these people are apostates & apostates should be killed. here are their personal info. BY THE WAY THIS IS NOT A THREAT" that's a death threat. why would police do anything? when these groups commit murder police's job has always been to cover up the murder
— 🎈Thihen Vany (@basneyheemaa) January 27, 2019
I hope I have set the scene for you. An intolerant constitution that outright bans thinking and freedom of conscience. Extremists getting away with murder, and using technology as a means of oppression in a highly connected and tech literate society while the multi-million dollar companies that run them turn a blind eye.
It’s so fucking insulting that Maldivians have to fear for their lives because of goddamn @telegram groups, but meanwhile there’s western experts writing books claiming we go gaga at the sight of an iPhone. I wish these terrorists didn’t use phones, would make our lives easier 🤬

Enter Francesca Borri with the radical insight that there is only one bookstore in Male’, all the while seeming to imply that most Maldivians don’t know English.
This book was published in 2017. It is factually incorrect. There’s only an Islamic bookstore? 🤦🏻‍♀️ This author is delusional. pic.twitter.com/ngPcG5yRhY
— Nash (@NashNasheed) January 26, 2019
And that there is no local cuisine.
Page 39. “I think that the Maldives are the only country in the world where there is no local cuisine”. Okay. Now this is going too far 😡
— Nash (@NashNasheed) January 26, 2019
And that Maldivians are amazed by smartphones.
Page 53. “A text arrives and my phone lights up... there’s an ooh of general amazement because it’s an iphone and no one has ever seen an iphone here”. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Seriously @francescaborri? Starting to doubt that you were even in Male’. Btw. Tweet sent from my iphone.
— Nash (@NashNasheed) January 26, 2019
“While the rest of the world watched the Olympics, in the Maldives most people watched the battle of Aleppo. And rooted for al-Qaeda”. What? Which channel on medianet was the battle of Aleppo broadcasted on? pic.twitter.com/wSaOPpQKRR
— Nash (@NashNasheed) January 21, 2019
But perhaps most insulting is the fact that we’d give a damn about the Olympics when we could be watching football. Also how the heck do you reckon people cut up the “Battle of Aleppo” for broadcast television? Do you think they had an HBO style miniseries?
Hey @francescaborri what medieval technology do you think this Maldivian terrorist group used to post this to Facebook? A 🥥 ? Can you help decipher the strange language they’ve used to threaten my life? I’m sending this via economy pigeon. May it reach you safely. Pls send halp. pic.twitter.com/wNvYbd06kZ

You get the picture. A hastily strung together piece of orientalist trash that makes the situation worse for people suffering because of Maldivian extremists. The last thing progressive Muslim, non-Muslim, and LGBT Maldivians need is more misinformation out there. Especially not from someone with a savior complex.
How can you trust anything written in this book when it features so many blatant fabrications? Fabrications deliberately worded to make Maldivians sound like backwards people rife with extremism who can’t read and are technology inept.
98% of our population had internet access five years ago. We have one of the highest tech proliferation and device per capita stats in the world. This isn't lazy research, this is outright malicious https://t.co/slgUtYcoYe
— Naailu🎈 (@kudanai) January 27, 2019
Well I’ll have you know us Maldivians are backwards people who are incredibly tech literate. And we can read too, to the shock of the author who is currently at the receiving end of the wrath of Maldives twitter.
Finally in bookstores. pic.twitter.com/ujRIg867gI
— francesca borri (@francescaborri) November 13, 2018
Here are some of the funniest and most insightful tweets directed at this latest savior who thought they could turn a profit on the suffering of the global south. These are the words of Maldivians speaking about their own country. Listen to them.
Lmao loving how conservatives and liberals are uniting against the mostly false portrayal of our country by @francescaborri . Nobody can trash-talk Maldivians except us amirite? 🇲🇻
— 🎈Nora Nazeer ✨ (@NoraNazeer) January 27, 2019
When western "journalists" parachute in to a South Asian country and assume they know everything and that they are always right. A Frenchman, who did the same, told me after visiting Maldives that Borri "took a lot of liberty" when writing her book. As in, she made up stories. https://t.co/wnBPUZgoi1
— Junayd 🇲🇻 (@mjunayd) January 27, 2019
But you could see how it perpetuates an idea of Maldivians that’s quite patronizing, even to the extent of orientalism, right? I mean, I do agree that extremism is at a critical stage here, but surely that could have been said without this inaccurate depiction of the rest?
— Aryj (@Arrryj) January 27, 2019
So tell me, how did you come up with this shit? 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 I graduated in an IGSE Cambridge examination back in 2008...from my island. Got an A in English. Even starting primary school, I had access to books from authors like Enid Blyton, R.L Stein and Louis Cooper... 🤦🏼‍♀️
— ShinyShine (@ShinyShine18) January 27, 2019
Might want search Google Maps for "bookshop" next time. This book is a blatant lie at this point. Even given the benefits of the doubt, this book falls short of acceptable. Tldr: Riddled with lies for dramatic purposes. pic.twitter.com/TXycTvAzqC

When someone from the global north decides to do a book about one of the smallest countries in the global south without much research and one that won't easily be scrutinised for the factual inaccuracies, with sweeping generalisations, this happens. Awesome thread btw https://t.co/0TKA9KmHV4

Whats an iPhone? Im tweeting on my iCoconut https://t.co/RPYxQKUFDR

Actually it’s Dhonmeeha: *whips out iPhone 6S* Mordis meeha : *whips out iPhone XS Max, iPad Pro, the New Mac book Air DJI Mavic pro, DJI Osmo and 2 GoPro Hero* https://t.co/nK3ux1I7VZ
— Simbro (@aachym) January 27, 2019
(“Dhon meehaa” literally means “fair skinned person”. It is the word used by Maldivians for “white people”. And it’s true, turn a Maldivian upside down and shake them little. The contents of an Apple Store will fall out).
the "worst parts" in the book are absolute lies. are we as maldivians not entitled to be upset over them? ignore them and move along? these are "facts" written by a "journalist" in a published book. https://t.co/2mFKGEw7hn

for the record i'm still a bit confused about your reviews @dbosley80 but ok. at least you made it clear that you don't recommend this book by @francescaborri pic.twitter.com/DUpatyXurX
— ˗ˏˋ 𝑅𝒾𝒻𝑔𝒶 ˎˊ˗ (@MRifgaR) January 27, 2019
Love it when white people feel the need to exaggerate and look down on an entire country and reduce their entire culture and history to what they came across in a day or two lol. pic.twitter.com/olIe8jDGoj
— Alhaaves NulaaFA (@ShafaRameez) January 27, 2019
I think the verdict of this would end up like, i condemn thee @francescaborri to 1 year of internship at Divehi Bahuge Academy 😅 so that by the time she's done there she can translate this godforsaken book to Divehi so us natives could actually learn about ourselves
— Aishath Ibahath (@AishathIbahath) January 27, 2019
Just had garudhiya, baiy, theluli faiy and theluli mas. The height of Italian cuisine!
— Junayd 🇲🇻 (@mjunayd) January 27, 2019
In Maldives we have no local cuisine to the point that when we attempted to make that shit, we sucked so much that we left it to cook for days and that is how we had rihaakuru and now we just eat that
— thikujja stan account (@ahunafu) January 27, 2019
If @francescaborri did her research properly she'd know about the dissent against extremists from Maldivians. Specially in our twitter community. I for one didn't applaud them as heroes. https://t.co/358lReKjMq
— 🎈Nora Nazeer ✨ (@NoraNazeer) January 27, 2019
At the end of the picture that sentence, is that saying the minority that speak English is rich and WHITE????
— Sharlight❓🎈 (@sjaufar) January 27, 2019
Shame these important interviews are in an a book with so many lies in it @francescaborri https://t.co/GeHpH5BU0m

Francesca Borri Vaguthu 🤝 Jaanalizam
— Threefish 🎈❓ (@three3fish) January 27, 2019
(vaguthu [“time” lol] is a Maldivian tabloid rag that primarily posts moral panic inducing “journalism” about Maldivian minorities).
Maldives has no local cuisine?!? I wasn't bothered when the author called us all extremists cause that's just typical white people racist fear mongering but NO LOCAL CUISINE?? Ive half a mind to make a thread about local cuisine & tag the author in it. https://t.co/QrpE3QPBcP
— Faafa🎈 (@psychofart) January 27, 2019
just because I am so offended I am going to write my whole masters thesis on Maldivian food
— Malsa Maaz (@malsamaaz) January 27, 2019
So fiction writers, here's a heads up. @7StoriesPress are very fond of fiction, specially investigative parody works. Ask franny @francescaborri she had the easiest of rides with that "Maldives in a Parallel Universe" work she did.
— Naif Naeem (@nAAYf) January 27, 2019
People like @francescaborri is what is wrong in the literary world, creating fake news with half truths to earn a buck. And also publishers, bookstores etc who support to push this garbage onto mainstream. Shame. https://t.co/Vi53939fLG

I read what was available on google because I’m not going to give a racist money - and yes, @francescaborri you’re racist.
— くたばれ🎈 (@hoshiyoshii) January 27, 2019
I’m tweeting from my iphone while I’m eating ‘Rihaakuru ‘ u know.., local cuisine. 😎 After finishing my food, I’m going to the ‘book store’ next to my house with English Arabic n international language books. 🖕🏼that’s for u 😉
— Jen (@jennasym) January 27, 2019
Hello uncultured jihadi Maldivians without bookstores tweeting using rocks and smoke signals or whatever, If you have a moment, please do send a messenger pigeon with your thoughts about @francescaborri’s book to google DOT com review What’s what? Click https://t.co/822PDLTTgR https://t.co/uR1UpoAFkm
— insaan🎈❔ (@pikomonster) January 27, 2019
people are saying @francescaborri makes sense despite exaggerating some stuff. but i think her “exaggerations” demonstrate an extremely skewed, clearly orientalist perspective which entirely rescinds her entire narrative. she lacks any coherent context. what a silly woman
— xiena saeed 🎈 (@dorinbakedbeans) January 27, 2019
Thanks @francescaborri. The roasting you're receiving is really entertaining. The tweets coming from iPhones are especially tasty. Almost as tasty as our cuisine, and now I'm craving some rihaakuru dhiya. Ta Ta, gonna go have some while I keep up with this roasting.
— Nomura-sama has slain Nabith (@nabithahmed) January 27, 2019
What an ignorant writer @francescaborri is! Our school system is based on the English language since decades ago—almost every Maldivian can converse in English. Many physical+online bookstores in Male. I own an iPhone. Tweet at me and I will send you recipe for Rihaakuru Dhiya https://t.co/TA773n5PgQ
— Maahil🌺❤️🍃 (@MaahilMohamed) January 27, 2019
How long was the research period to write this book? 😂 #localtweetingfromiphone
— Azza Rushdy (@UGLY_Y) January 27, 2019
Its from a parallel dimension...on Earth 51, maldives is like that 🤪 tuna has run out of the oceans and no more rihaakuru and palms sold to dubai hence no coconut for mashuni...
— p3st (@p3st) January 27, 2019
Your portrayal of maldives as backwards and having little or no indentity of its own (except the one you try so hard to force on your readers) is proof that you wrote this on hearsay and some internet research done whilst sitting on your ass at home.
— Ahusan (aka.Jack / Pusheen) (@awhosun) January 27, 2019
Hi @francescaborri, there are about 4 main bookstores with multiple outlets in Malé and many independent ones that stock many titles in English. This tweet was kindly translated to English by a member of the minority and sent from my garudhiya baiythashi. https://t.co/iSloEziYl1
— 🌞 (@izznzz) January 27, 2019
According to the author Maldives is the only country in the world with no local cuisine. So @francescaborri should I stop researching for my PhD on, guess what, LOCAL MALDIVIAN CUISINE? Shameful. https://t.co/7gntvUeCeV
— Mo S. (@moshen81) January 27, 2019
We have many qualified people capable of producing an accurate assessment of radicalisation in Raajje that @francescaborri so spectacularly failed at. If one good thing comes of this, can it be that? Or is it only the dhon meehaa who can talk abt it w/out fearing for their lives?
— Azka (@Azka__Anees) January 27, 2019
Nothing brings Maldivians together like a good roast.
Thank you @francescaborri. It's really nice to see you get roasted by a whole country, everyone together.
