I NEED a byler fic or edit to Fly Out West by Yot Club idc if I've talked about it before because omg the song works so well and it's so angsty so I'm going to talk about it again (also it's just a good song lol)

OK so it's literally called 'Fly Out West' which is what Mike does at the start of s4 and it's really great for early s4 angst.

Former romantic partner can be easily exchanged for former best friend if you consider how the lack of communication whilst Will is on California would make them feel- especially when Mike says how he felt like he was losing Will.

Here are the lyrics:

I feel like it could so easily be Mike's pov on the first screenshot and Will' pov on the second.

"Hope you've been all good heard you've found a brand new home" obviously Mike thinking about Will in California and how Hawkins isn't the same without him.

But then it goes "you're all I dream about" which is serious Mike pretending in rink o mania to ignore Will only to be focusing on how Will is supposedly sabotaging the whole day vibes.

And then the line "take it from me, I'm too dumb to recognise your doubt" reminds me so much of Finn calling Mike clueless and asking him to just pay attention a bit more about how maybe the painting isn't for a girl that Will likes....

"Tell me how you live so easily young and naive" again reminds me of how Mike originally thinks the painting is for a girl Will likes and suggests that Will isn't going through the sake sexuality struggle Mike is as Mike thinks Will is straight.

"I can't heal you" is literally Mike's feelings of helplessness throughout the series.

Then because this song is so exceptionally bylet coded, I love thinking about the second half of the song being from Will's pov even though it's almost the exact same lyrics as Mike has.

"I think you fake that smile that's on your face" is literally Will watching Mike and El at rink o mania as although he thinks that mleven is all in love or whatever, he also knows his best friend and how El is lying to him about her bullies.

And then of course "you're all I dream about" WILL LITERALLY MAKES A BIG PAINTING WITH A MASSIVE RED HEART ON IT!!! Mike is all he dreams about :((

"I'm too dumb to recognise your doubt" Will doesn't understand the relationship issues in mleven and doesn't know that Mike hasn't said I love you yet.

And then the "tell me how you live so easily young and naive" is obviously about how Will thinks that Mike isn't going through the same sexualith crisis he is and is just enjoying his heterosexual relationship.
